An active, character-driven Hogwarts experience set in the early 2000s. Unique items, plots, and features. Non-canon; this isn't Harry Potter's story, it's ours.
Rubes hadn't thought that she'd be awfully good at duelling, but she was finding it to actually be quite entertaining. It was also giving her a chance to sharpen up her spell casting skills.
"Yay! More duelling! You and me, this time, Ryan?"

Grace grinned. It was cool to be able to duel with people, and it was a lot more fun. She nodded, it was a lot of fun to watch the duels, and she and Gerald had already duelled once before. She could wait a little longer, she didn't think Ruby and Ryan would take too long. Hah. Ruby and Ryan, Grace and Gerald. Their names had the same letters.
"I'm all good with that. If it's not too difficult, or if there's enough room, Gerald and I could even duel at the same time. Then it'll be like a little tournament. she hummed, "Well, I mean, Gerald and Ryan can't duel each other, but other than that." she nodded.

Ryan was excited that they said he and Ruby could go first. He headed to the duelling area and faced her. 'Ready when you are, Ruby,' he said. Ryan aimed his wand carefully and waited. 'You can go first, if you want?'
It felt great to find something he wasn't too apprehensive about, which boosted his confidence. Ryan felt he could improve at this and maybe one day become a skilled duellist. He decided to make that a goal for his time at Hogwarts. There was a rush he got from it, and he was happy to have found something he could actually do.
[OOC: Only one duel at a time, per thread. But once Ruby and I are done, Gerald and Grace can go next. It would be pretty funny if a group of 1st years ended up with the higher duelling skills lol]

Rubes couldn't quite explain it, but she felt a strange kind of excitement flooding through her. Duelling was something she was not only starting to get better at, but was also something she really enjoyed. It was nice to add a new item to the list of things she found to be fun.
"Thanksforletting megofirst,Ryan." Gearing herself up, Ruby fired a spell at him.

It didn't start off well for him, but Ryan still didn't mind letting Ruby go first. Winning was great, but he wanted to learn too. Ryan corrected his stance, taking a moment to focus on the wand movements and strength of his incantation.
He cast an offensive spell at Ruby, hoping for the best.
Ruby staggered a little, but managed to keep her balance. She could see that Ryan was definitely improving his duelling skills. Then again, so was she, and she felt that the whole point of duelling was to improve spell-casting skills and try out different techniques.
"Goodjob,Ryan! You're definitely gettingbetter!Keep itup!" she called, firing another spell inRyan's direction.
Ruby cast an offensive spell (score: 2), but Ryan's defensive spell (score: 5) overpowers it. Ruby - free-rp the outcome of your choice. Ryan wins the round and then the match.
Rubes was amazed. She'd lost another duel, but that didn't really matter. What mattered was that she was learning and having fun at the same time. She stood up, the force of Ryan's spell having knocked her on her butt again.
"You win, Ryan! Time for Grace and Gerald to have another duel."

Grace finished up her pumpkin juice and cheered for her friends, both Ryan and Ruby did an excellent job. She turned to Gerald and smiled, "Alright, let's do this thing!" she said with enthusiasm. "You wanna go first, Gerald, or should I?" she adjusted her robes as she stood proudly.
Gerald wasn't all that concerned with winning, and seeing how everyone else fought, he'd be interested to see how that person from the other night would go, facing the four of them. The idea made him laugh a little, at least.
Moving off from the group, he adjusted his own robes and sent off a spell at Grace. "Let's start this then"
