Sophia turned curiously to the Ravenclaw table, hearing Lucky's singsong. Seeing it was Nordstrom and Sallow, she pulled a face of disgust. What did he see in her? Nordstrom was mean and shouty.
Sighing, she leaned on her crossed arms to stare into an empty bowl while contemplating how long she was willing to sit there until Phe made an appearance. Logically, it wasn't likely for anyone to check her first if breakfast was now over. It was possible Phe had just gotten up earlier than her or sat somewhere else at the table, but still Sophia sulked.
She glanced up at Lucky's offer though. It seemed Harris had already left, but what else was she going to do with her free time? Study? HA. Not bloody likely.
'Yeah. Sure. Why not?' Sophia huffed, slowly getting to her feet. Merlin, she just wanted to sleep. Maybe that's what she'd... no, what if she had nightmares again? 'Lead the way, Luck.'
At least the common room would have comfy cushions if she got desperate enough, and it was a place Phe was more likely to venture across. Of course, the "point me" spell would work well enough too but her sleep-deprived brain forgot about it right not.
She yawned widely into her hand, waiting for one of he boys to start heading to the common room first. If she led the way, they'd probably end up walking into a wall or right off the edge of a moving staircase or something.
Amelia glanced over at her brother as he stormed away and she put her palm to her head. I did it again. She thought to herself before she returned her attention to Jacob. She would have to deal with Toby later. The cut was fairly good and she was really worried about Jacob. They had been friends for five years, no way she was going to let him not tell her.
Nothing? Did he say it was nothing?! Amelia felt her stomach begin to churn. Somewhere, deep down, she knew that was not the truth and it was certainly covering for something. This was a boy who made a big deal about everything and now, he wouldn't say anything? If he kept on this path, he wouldn't live at all, she might be the one to take care of him for good. Amelia's eyes burned and her face was red, heated with frustration, shock and anger.
As he jumped, she looked towards the second year with confusion and then back at Jacob. What had spooked him? At his excuse about fireworks, she looked at Anjay. If this boy had actual set off fireworks, there would be evidence in the dorm itself, not just fire on his sleeve and she some how, didn't believe he had done that. As he stood up, she looked at him in stunned confusion and hurt.
"Jacob... We're your friends and you can tell us anything... So spill, because we know you better than that." Now, Amelia was on the edge of tears, mostly from anger and frustration that he wasn't telling her or the rest of them, the truth.

Toby looked between his friends when they asked him what had happened and he only shrugged in response, picking at the toast that he held in his hand as if it was the most interesting thing in the world- but it didn't seem as though he intended on eating it.
"I didn't mean to make a mess" he told them, as if that explained his dark mood "I was just excited and then Amy snapped at me, it's not as though there was an entire table of food she could get if she really wanted to" he was grateful for the support from his friends, considering his sister had been such an arse that morning- and to think, he was going to say something genuinely nice about her... Well after that performance, he hoped another plant smacked her.
"We can do something together after class" he agreed, smiling at the other boys- it seemed that the company of his best friends seemed to make it easy to forget his anger and upset at his sister. "We could go explore or... Maybe play chess or some other game?" it seemed like maybe Joe didn't want to go running around outside and honestly, Toby could see why, it was rather cold that morning.
Shrugging at the mention of quidditch practice he muttered "sure, if Amy doesn't knock me off my broom or something" he didn't really believe that she might do that, because the consequences to those actions would be dire, for her."I guess it'll be fun as long as she doesn't hit a bludger at me" if she did, he'd make her life hell for as long as possible.

"Oh, that's mean!", he said when Toby explained he had been snapped at by his sister. He thought back to when Ellie had last scolded him and how bad he had felt when she did so- and had missed a meal doing so. He had felt wronged being scolded for nothing, the bad came mainly from having had her miss lunch the other day.
"Sure. Only I actually have only played chess once. Ever. You might have to teach me the rules again", he said happy about the change of subject. Had Ryan played chess? If he had then probably not wizard chess. Unless he had played it here of course. So Toby teaching him the rules Ryan could get a briefing as well.
"Don't be silly", he stretched forward to rub Toby's hair when he said Amy would hit him with a bludger. "If she does, who will play seeker tomorrow against Slytehrin?"
He grinned at his friend and got up. Jay had already left for class and so had most of their classmates, they should hurry so they would not be late.
"Let's go. I don't want Professor McGonnagal to turn one of us into a clock because we're late", he said jokingly and started walking.
Nyx spun around, icy eyes shooting daggers at the source of ridicule with a cold glare. It sounded like Luckett Langford. No, it didn't sound like him. It was him. Nyx would be sure to get him back for that later. But, for right now, she wanted to bask in this moment, her moment with Mathias. She turned back to face him, her expression immediately softening. Her lashes fluttered ever so flirty-like, as she reached to brush a strand of platinum hair from her face.
"Yeah," she laughed in response, having always enjoyed Mathias' brand of humor. "I'd prefer the privacy," Nyx added with a nod, a smile lingering on her plush lips. Even though everyone seemed to be watching them, it felt like only her and him. It always felt like that. Nyx had only ever had eyes for Mathias, and when they were together, it felt like the whole world went still.
"A walk?" Nordstrom repeated, and not because she misunderstood, but because she was trying to buy time. She had just made plans with Kaspian Kettles to visit the groundskeeper, and while she would have had no objection canceling plans with her teammate, it was more about needing to get the aforementioned task done. But she didn't want Mathias to think she was opting to spend time with another boy. How could she go about this—the right away?
"Maybe this afternoon?" she countered, hoping the light-hearted grin on his fade wouldn't fade. "I made plans to visit Hagrid for one of those spare gardening pots," she started to say, reaching to grab hold of her Herbology textbooks for further evidence. It wasn't like she needed proof, but it helped showcase how important the task was to her. "You're more than welcome to join Kaspian and I," she offered, jumbling her words together in quick haste.
She didn't bother asking Kettles if he was alright with the extra addition, because if he wasn't, he was disinvited. Mathias and Nyx could go by themselves. And yet, while it all seemed easy, something told Nyx it wouldn't be. If the past was any indication of how the conversation could go, she anticipated Mathias declining her invitation. She just didn't want him to be saddened by the decision. They would have the whole afternoon together, after all—assuming he agreed.
"We should get going either way," Nordstrom said decisively, noticing that their food had disappeared from table. Students were already exiting the hall, off to attend class or enjoy their free time. Nyx clutched her textbooks to her chest and exchanged a look with Kaspian, before turning to smile at Mathias. She hoped he would come along with them, but if he didn't, she would make sure to spend every second of her entire afternoon with him and only him.

'Oh.' Mathias wasn't sure what to say, hearing Nyx already had plans.
That was fast.
He stared at the table, squashing his instinctual annoyance that of course it would be with Kaspian. He let out a long exhale though, trusting Nyx enough to assume there was nothing about it that he needed to be worried about. She cared him in that way, not Kaspian.
Didn't mean he had to like it.
'That's okay.' He shrugged, willing himself to be okay with it. He wasn't about to tag along though, and preferred an afternoon to themselves. Mathias gave her a smile, still thinking about what just happened and the truths they'd shared.
'Afternoon is actually better, really,' he said. Thankfully, he sounded convincing enough. 'I uh, I have plans too this morning. With...'
He frantically glanced around the hall, but spotted a familiar face at their table.
'Jaxen,' he said, a bit too loudly and no doubt catching his attention. 'Uh, we're going to hang out?' Mathias shot Jaxen a hopeful look. Surely he could spot a boy in trouble?
Mathias didn't want to seem like he'd been rejected or would sit around moping all morning. He was still in shock too. Spending some time with Jaxen would be nice, though doubt soon crept back in reminder that people didn't just hang out with him. Not unless they were bored enough or needed his help with something. Except Nyx, of course. He smiled again at that.

Tiana Thomas' face was putting on a show that could rival ticket prices for the one over at the Ravenclaw table! It was one expression after another: from shock, to irritation, to confusion. She looked bothered by Jake's initial response, turning to look at Amelia who appeared equally as agitated. Why was he acting so defensive? If he was hurt, they wanted to do what they could to help him! Thatcher didn't need to save face with them. They were his friends!
“Fireworks, Jake? That's what you're going with?” Tiana questioned, leaning closer to get a better look at his cradled arm. He was avoiding eye contact which was never a good thing. It was believable he would be lighting fireworks in his dorm, but there were too many missing holes in his story. If he set fire to his sleeve, he would have likely set fire to other things.. and the other boys that shared the room with him would have made a comment about it.
Her eyes moved to find Amelia again and she noticed her friend getting emotional. Tiana couldn't remember a time when she saw her teammate on the verge of tears.. the events of yesterday excluded. She reached out a hand, wanting to place it on Amy's shoulder. Emotions were running high at the Gryffindor table and Tiana wanted to be a comforting presence for once. She would usually be the one grilling Jake, but this morning that role was taken.
“We should talk about this later in private,” she started to suggest, looking for everyone's reaction. “If Jake doesn't want to tell us what really happened, that's his business,” Tiana advised the other lions, sounding more frustrated than she expected. She wanted to be diplomatic! “You can tell us when you're ready, Jake,” Ti finished, looking at the boy while standing up from her seat. The food was gone from the table and it was time for them to go.

Jaxen had been studying his timetable, having just made up his mind to venture to the kitchens before returning to the common room. He didn't make a habit of skipping breakfast and was sure that the consequences of doing so would reflect in his temperament as the day went on.
Then just as he was preparing to leave, the loud mention of his name caused him to startle, fumbling with the piece of paper in his hand and drawing his attention to where some of his housemates remained at the table. Jax looked at Mathias, recognising that it had been him who had spoken.
'Uh, we're going to hang out?'
Brow furrowing in confusion at the insinuation that they'd made plans for that morning, something that up until that point, he'd been unaware of. Glancing at Nyx and Kaspian and then back to Mathias, it all seemed to click into place and the look that Matt was giving him, suddenly seemed to make sense. "Oh yeah! Uh... I needed Matt's help with something" he improvised a story, uncomfortable with being put on the spot without warning, but attempting to make the best of the situation. Maybe this would also give him the opportunity to ask Mathias about his mother's involvement with his family- assuming he knew anything.

Jacob was annoyed. Well, he was already annoyed, but this was like extra-annoyed or something. It was weird though, because he wasn't annoyed at them for questioning him but rather than their concern made it harder for him to protect them. Why did he have to be friends with such nice people?
Uh oh, Amy was teary-eyed. Now what was he supposed to do? Girls crying was not something he knew how to handle, which earned him another sab of guilt. But with the Slytherins' threat still hanging over their heads, he refused to give in, so he did the best thing he could think of in that moment: he pretended not to notice.
He'd rather his friends hated him than he be responsible for getting them hurt.
'You don't know what it wasn't fireworks,' Jacob muttered casually, yet with a defensive look. He was glad for Tiana respecting that he didn't want to talk about it, and giving him an out, but he knew it wouldn't be enough for Amy. Twiggs' had fire in them.
'Look, I can't... I mean, I don't want to make a fuss about this, all right?' He stood up, unable to keep them a bay when they had so much free time. 'Just drop it. I'm fine.'
Jacob sighed, shaking his head as he cradled his arm again. He couldn't make eye contact with either of them. What could he say? Lying felt so wrong. Any time someone messed with him in the past, big or small, he'd tell his friends everything so they could either handle it together or he had someone to rant to about how hard and unfair his life was. Not this time. He couldn't risk it and he knew the girls were too headstrong to let it go if they knew the truth.
'I've got homework to do.' Jacob sighed. 'I'll see you later.' He headed out of the hall, looking every bit the kicked puppy he was.
Killed by Devin Kudosen by act of the Killing Curse. June #24, RPG year 1 -- he was a 5th year Gryffindor. Jacob died to save his best friend, Luckett Langford.
She looked over at Tiana as she spoke about the fireworks and glared over at Jacob, expecting an answer. It hurt knowing that he was hiding something from them and she crossed her arms, her hands balled into fist as she stood there looking at him with eyes filling with angry tears. Now, she was just mad... Concerned lingered in the back of her mind, but she was madder than a hornet's nest being kicked.
As Tiana observed the cradled arm, Amelia stepped aside and looked away for a moment, letting her hands stray up to her face to remove the evidence of a spilling tear. No, she was not going to cry! She was angry! She would not cry in anger... She felt a hand on her shoulder and glanced over at Tiana, her eyes softening from her anger before she looked back at Jacob and it began to rise again.
At Ti's suggestions, she looked over at her in a little big of disbelieve and then totally shock at she said Jake didn't have to tell anyone what happened, unless he wanted to... Amelia felt herself grow angry... They were allowing their friend to keep secrets and she wanted to scream! He was hurt and it was obviously not from fireworks in the dorm. And it was hard to believe that since no other fifth year old had spoken about a destroyed dorm this morning.
As he dismissed it, she felt herself get even angrier and watched as he left, saying he had homework to do. Watching him walk away, she felt her heart thump in her chest and he snatched her things and left as well, not saying a word to anyone before she disappeared.
