Name: Sophia Rhynhart Goes by: Soph, to her friends. Gender: Female Blood Status: Pureblood Raised in: Both Personality: Sophia has a kind and playful nature. She's fiercely loyal and will fight anyone who tries to hurt others. She often seeks adventures or witty friends to hang out with. She's social and friendly, easily accepting others unless they're untrustworthy or arrogant. She's vocal about her opinions and complaints, though tries (yet doesn't always succeed) to be open-minded or a good listener.
She's free-spirit with a big imagination, which gets her in trouble or makes her prone to daydreaming and getting distracted. She doesn't like being told what to do or how to act, preferring to be herself and have fun, but is usually able to work through it if others are relying on her or need help.
Sophia tries her best and wants to make her parents proud, which sometimes causes her put unnecessary pressure on herself to achieve both. She often leaves things to the last minute, but works hard and is keen to learn. In a classroom setting, she struggles to stay focused or follow instructions, due to impatience or wanting to make things more interesting. She can be spontaneous or too curious for her own good, but her heart is in the right place.
With a social and playful personality, Sophia can be misunderstood. She feels as if people expect her to be happy and full of life all the time, and that's not the case. She's loud and engaging in a group setting or during free time, but on her own or when she has responsibilities to focus on, Sophia becomes more reserved and almost a different person. She's especially cranky in the mornings, preferring to stay up late then sleep in. During exam times, she gets stressed and snappy – fearful of failing or not being able to achieve her goals.
Sophia had a traumatic experience with water when she was a child, and it's stayed with her. She enjoys quiet time to herself, taking in the views and just relaxing. She has a temper she tries to keep in check, but can be very confrontational if she finds something to fight for or against.
She's most disciplined and reliable when it comes to Quidditch. Sophia is obsessed with the sport – often annoying her housemates with stats or play-be-plays of matches and famous teams. She once considered applying for the captaincy for 5th year, but decided that having a leadership role in her favourite sport wasn't the right fit for her. She'd rather just focus on her role than having to worry about everyone else's job or plan things in advance. She's dedicated to her team, and playing Quidditch is her favourite thing about Hogwarts. Sophia dreams of becoming a big Quidditch star herself one day.
Detailed Backstory: Though both of Sophia's parents come from long lines of magical ancestry, they're fascinated by Muggle technology and non-magical ways of life – as a result, their daughter grew up with an understanding of both worlds. The interest and knowledge also led her father to getting a job at the Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office shortly before Sophia was born. It doesn't pay great, but the family get creative to make ends meet.
Her father, Noah, is optimistic and kind-hearted. He encourages and supports his family with everything he has. His spell-casting is incredible, which inspires Sophia to improve her own magic and explore different strategies. Noah married Sophia's mother soon after they'd graduated Hogwarts, though it was several years before they grew their family. He built their house himself, with both magic and muggle means, determined to provide home that suited their personalities ands style.
Her mother, Penelope, is impatient and often tackles multiple projects at once. She's creative and resourceful, with a firm belief that there is always a solution to any problem. She spends a lot of time painting landscapes or tending to her garden, which is also a means of making money. Sophie tried to develop an interest in art or gardening, but neither stuck. What they do have in common is a love of Quidditch. Noah works overtime at the Ministry to ensure his wife and daughter never miss important matches or World Cup finals.
When Sophia was born, her parents felt their family was complete – never having a desire for more children. Their daughter was quite a handful from the start, as they learned Sophia was a natural metamorphagus. It took years for her to learn to control it, though now she mostly just changes her hair or morphs facial features to that of an animal to make her friends laugh.
With an energetic and seemingly-fearless toddler running around, her parents had to find new ways to keep Sophia busy – her father introduced her to muggle cooking, which became a regular activity they shared together even as Sophia grew older. Unlike Potions, which had to be precise, cooking and baking was a way to experiment. Sophia proudly shared her colourful creations with kind neighbours or her parents' co-workers/clients.
Sophia grew up in a free-spirited and loving home. However, a few years before her Hogwarts letter arrived, she and several magical families went on a camping trip by deep lake. One night, she'd heard a sound and wandered off to investigate. She doesn't remember much of what happened, only that she ended up being pushed off a low cliff into the lake. The event was traumatic; she got tangled in some kelp, or a creature grabbed her, and she almost drowned.
When away at Hogwarts, she spends most of her time hanging out with friends or focusing on Quidditch. Her parents always hope she'd at least try to stay out of trouble, and remember that grades are important too, but Sophia has other priorities.
Like her father, she's particularly gifted in Charms – though her poor mother was horrified to learn her daughter had no special talent in Herbology or Potions, at all. Over the years, Sophia began to compare herself to her parents more – wanting to be as amazing as them, yet feels she doesn't measure up. From her point of view, everything's easy for them and they always have a solution. Whereas Sophia's still unsure of herself and figuring everything out. They respect her decisions and right to choose her own path in life, though can be a bit over-protective at times.
Quidditch is where she really shines, which quickly became the main thing to write home about. Though Penelope was a Seeker during her time at Hogwarts, she's immensely proud of Sophia for being on the team as a Chaser. If their work schedule allows it, her parents would often take time off to watch their daughter play.
A unique Hogwarts experience set in the early 2000s. Aside from a few canon Professors, all characters (and plots) here are created by members/staff. This isn't Harry Potter's story; it's yours.
