Toby: Joe's best friend is a wild card. If left alone he and Joe would surely get into trouble with Toby's knack for mischief and Joe's disability to say 'no' to him. Toby is loyal, caring and so much fun! He is also the first friend Joe made at Hogwarts which forever bought Joe's unquestioning loyalty and support. He secretly wished Toby was a Ravenclaw as well so that they could all spend the evenings together.
Ryan: Joe's best friend is an anxious/jumpy person but constantly tries to overcome his shortcomings which makes him the bravest person he knows in Joe's eyes. He loves Ryan dearly and tries to be more mindful of his anxieties eventhough Joe doesn't always understand them. Joe would love to be a hero for Ryan and lets his best friend share his bed to fend off nightmares. Ryan is also kinda his lucky charm.
MJ: Joe's team, house and classmate. She's fun and he likes to be around her. He feels strongly inclined to show off to her and good around.
Grace: Is a brilliant chaser on the Gryffindor team. Joe has talked to her a few times but was glad to not have done so alone, partly because he isn't sure about her name, partly because she seems really cool.
Saoirse: She stood up for him against Amara Seabrook and since then he has started to notice her more. He thinks she is bloody awesome.
Charlotte: Refuses to call him Joe, which makes him uncomfortable. Other than that she seems nice but he doesn't really give her much thoughts.
Ezra: Joe's dormmate, he's very friendly and Joe likes him.
Nox: Actually called 'Nyx' is his Quidditch captain. No one quite manages to simultaneously strike the fear of god into him and inspire him to aim for greatness like she does. He fears her quite a bit yet is adamant to impress her and win her over- if only to secure his position on the team.
Luckett: Is the Hufflepuff Quiddy Captain. He reminds Joe of Toby and Joe is starting to look up to him.
I know it’s only been a day but I miss you already.
My parents want to take me shopping today because I‘ve outgrown some of my clothes.
I don’t really want to go but perhaps I can get a new Spiderman T-shirt, if we also browse some muggle shops.
Have I told you about Spiderman?
He’s a comic book hero who can do everything a spider can. But his alias is a broke student, it takes place in New York.
Perhaps I‘ll bring some comics with me when I come over, I hadn’t brought any to Hogwarts but spent last night reading few that my uncle kept in my room for me.
I‘m looking forward to seeing you soon!
Love, Joe
P.S.: My parents want to owl yours soon about dropping me off at your place.
It’s been two days since I last saw you and let me tell you: It is weird not sharing a room with you.
Things are good here, mum and dad took me shopping yesterday because, they said I‘d outgrown some of my clothes. I thought it was a bit boring but we had ice-cream and my dad told this really great joke:
How do you call a wizard that only casts good spells? - Charming.
Get it?
Today my dad is taking me swimming at the Pond. It is more like a small lake, muggles built it for people to swim in the summer and ice skate in the winter, so it’s not very deep and there’s supposed to be a lot of kids there. I wish you could come to the Pond as well!
Also: Our cat Ramses wanted to play with Fogaell but she pecked at him so I scolded her.
Do you think she will be mad at me for long?
Can’t wait to hear from you!
Love, Joe
To: Ryan Barrow
Dear Ryan,
the day at the Pond was really fun!
Dad and I played this game in the water where he would pick me up by the shoulders and then throw me a little. And then some other dad and kid started playing as well. But dad said we made the biggest splash!
Do you play this game with your dad too?
The other kid is just ten but is taller than me already, can you imagine? I bet there’s gonna be first years next year that are taller than me too. Perhaps I should ask for stilts for my next birthday.
By the way: Would you like me to teach you juggling next term? I know Toby is interested. We could put on a show, just for ourselves to enjoy.
That might be fun!
Love, Joe
To: Ryan Barrow
Dear Ryan,
both my parents took me to the Pond again today and we met the same kid with his dad.
He is called ‘Tony‘ but I kept calling him ‘Toby‘ by accident so maybe that explains why he is so tall already!
They invited us to play football with them and some others, kids vs adults. We won!
But my dad kept saying it was only because it was a muggle sport but I bet I could’ve beaten him at Quidditch as well.
Tomorrow it’s supposed to rain so Tony has invited me to come play a game called ‘Fee Fur‘ at his home. He said it’s something with football so I guess it’s like a table football but with stuffed animals.
At first mum didn’t want to let me go because of the Azkaban outbreak and the targeting of Muggles. But dad said there was a restaurant just down Tony‘s street so he is taking mum on a lunch date while I play with Tony and they can be nearby.
It’s kind of weird they are so concerned because nothing ever happens in this town.
I hope it’s the same with yours!
I‘ll tell you all about this Fee Fur game in my next letter!
Love, Joe
To: Tobias Twiggs
Hey Toby!
You will not believe what my cousin said to me!
She said I should make a Plan B for when Quidditch doesn’t work out. WHEN!!
She clearly has no idea what she’s talking about, said she left the Hufflepuff team on her own accord but I bet she was kicked off.
Obviously I‘m not talking to her anymore, so I‘m going to spend some time with a kid I met at the nearby lake.
My parents were hesitant to let me go to his place because he’s a muggle and these attacks that were happening. But they’ll stay nearby in case anything happens, which I think is crazy because nothing ever happens in this town.
Anyway, my family has been discussing Dumbledore a lot recently, apparently the man was real kooky. They’re all very sad and shocked about it all.
How are your folks holding up?
I feel a bit weird about it all, and cannot WAIT to come and visit you. Just a shame Ryan can’t come as well.
But we’ll write him a letter together?
Miss you and hope to see you soon!
Love, Joe
To: Ryan Barrow
Hi Ryan!
I was very wrong about the game!
It is actually called ‘FIFA‘ and is a video game for PlayStation. Do you know that?
You just plug the PlayStation in a TV and put in the game that is on a CD. And then there are these controllers that have buttons and twisty sticks on them and that’s how you make the people on the TV move and kick the ball.
The man you’re controlling at the moment has got a little marker on his head so you know where to look.
It was really fun but took me a while to figure out. At first Tony wanted to play against me but then we played on the same team against the Computer.
I am convinced a wizard must have invented video games, it’s so strange that it is marketed to muggles. But good for them!
If you ever get the chance to play the PlayStation you should totally do it! I think you would love it!
I hope summer is treating you kindly.
Love, Joe

Day#18: - Breakfast[gets head slammed into porridge by Amara Seabrook, Toby and Saoirse jump to his defence and get detention for their trouble] - Potions class[fail to brew Herbicide, Snape's a jerk to Toby and Saoirse too] - harvesting stinky plants[meet Toby in Greenhouse, talk to Lindsey, who is the only nice snek on the snek team!] - room on fire!
Elara: Joe's cousin is three years older than him and in Hufflepuff. Growing up Joe had been close to his cousins, forming a relationship similar to siblings which only strengthened when he moved into his eldest cousin's old room at his aunt's and uncle's house the summer before starting at Hogwarts. Joe looks up to her as a voice of reason and wants to do good by her. That doesn't mean he can't get competitive with her in Quidditch- which is good since they play the same position on opposing teams.
Jay: Actually called 'Jamie' is a quiet boy who shares a dorm room with Joe and Ryan. They regularly talk at meals and sometimes sit together in class. Joe has not quite made up his mind about Jay being his friend since he senses that Toby and especially Ryan would prefer to stay a trio. He always tries to be friendly to Jay however since he has no reason not to.
Grace: Is a brilliant chaser on the Gryffindor team. Joe has talked to her a few times but was glad to not have done so alone, partly because he isn't sure about her name, partly because she seems really cool. He thinks she is friends with Toby so Joe will try to be friendlier to her. She is the (twin?)sister of Jay.
Nox: Actually called 'Nyx' is his Quidditch captain. No one quite manages to simultaneously strike the fear of god into him and inspire him to aim for greatness like she does. He fears her quite a bit yet is adamant to impress her and win her over- if only to secure his position on the team.
Bucket: Actually called 'Luckett' is the Hufflepuff Quiddy Captain. He reminds Joe of Toby and Joe is starting to look up to him.
Jonathan, we send you this owl as a companion for your studies. It is a female tawny owl answering to the name of Fogaell. We shall anticipate your next letter soon, entailing your decision as to wether you keep our present or if it is to be returned to the rescue.
Dear mum and dad, yesterday I tryed out for the Quiditch team today (Ellie made me!) and made chaser! Our first match will be against Hufflepuff on [Date]. I hope you can make it and watch me play. I'm going to need my own broom for that if that's okay? They say the school brooms are unrelyable...
Dad's parents bought me an owl and sent her to me, recon i should keep her? Her name is Fogaell, she is a tawny owl. They say she is a rescue and I fear she would have to get back to being alone without me. I don't know anything about owls and she doesn't seem to like me too much but I'll try to befriend her so she can bring my letters to you.
I did what you told me to and am happy to report I have made two friends! Their names are Ryan and Tobie Toby and they are great. Ryan is in Ravenclaw like me and Toby in Griffindor.
Hoping to here from you soon! Love you Joe
