Perfect. a White square. Smiling, he stepped forward again to 4. This seemed so much more simple now, but now he wondered what lay beyond the puzzle.
Looking down, he planned his next action, and as his mind wandered, he thought about Grace, wondering how her Thing was going, He also wondered how Ryan was going.
Another Grey. Okay, now he had to stop and double check his choice. Standing still, he looked around. One of these was dangerous, the others were not.
Blinking, he gingerly stepped over to number 3. It was that or 4 which he had to be careful of, and 5 He was almost certain was bad. Hopefully he didn't have to start again.
Oh wow, it lookedlike 4 might have actually been the safe, white one. Taking a Step forward, he stepped onto the 4 in front of him. It was more than likely a Grey, but it was worth a shot.
He knew that this would probably be only a small part of the puzzle, but wow, this took a long time. Unless he was just sent back in time to when he started the puzzle. He should get a watch next time. This seemed weird.
Oh wow, Gerald realised. Almost all of these have been around the 4th step.
Stepping forward to 4 again, he knew that it would likely be a grey, but he still had another chance after that to pass through safely. 5 more rounds to go, and he was done.

There wasn't much to this. But from his veiwpoint. He was likely to get another grey if he stepped on 4, but he was probably just as likely to get a Black Tile. Better to just play it safe than anything else.
Stepping onto 3, he hoped he didn't make a mistake. He had already finished most of the path, so having to start again would be annoying. "Come on, please don't be wrong"
Luck was not on his side this time. Another WHOOSH of blackness blasted from the square he'd stepped on. The same experience as before once again resulted in Gerald having to get up from the floor. The path faded and shifted into a new one, resetting the game for the second time.
A shimmer rippled over the squares though, which he was sure hadn't happened last time, suggestion something might be a bit different this time. Either way, he had to start over from square one.
"Aww man!" Gerald said loudly, as he looked over the Path. The Founders had way too much fun when they made this. But why did it seem like the thing was different? Did he break it? Hopefully it wasn't too bad.
Stepping onto 4, he watched, planning his next move. He had to be careful. If this was a game, this would be his last respawn, probably. "I should have brought Rook with me"
When Gerald stepped onto the cautionary square, it wasn't the only one that changed colour this time. The safe one beside him, then a other cautionary beside that, also changed to give him a stronger clue as to where he was and what moves could be next. Was it the magical game or the Founders that somehow took pity on him for having not succeeded yet?
At first, he thought that he did break it, but then he realised. The puzzle was somehow making it easier for him. Did he mess up that bad?
Stepping onto 5, he figured that it was probably safer to step in front of the White squares. Hopefully this was better to finish than the previous tries. Or just easier.
Seriously though, what was beyond this puzzle? Hopefully it was the hardest Part of this entire thing, or he might be a little late for Dinner.
