Orla had restlessly wandered away from the Hospital Wing, knowing that if she lingered around waiting for MJ she would try and find some way of sneaking inside. She didn't want to cause trouble, so her fidgety feet had led them here, to the draughty Main Corridor.
"Her poor arm," she mumbled to Thorne, thoroughly miserable despite their lariwort success. She was excited to see Thorne succeed and grow a beanstalk, but those feelings were competing with some nasty spikes of guilt and worry.
"Do you think MJ was pretending to be ok for our sake?" Orla meandered from one side of the corridor to another, scuffing her boots on the flagstones now and then.

"I don't think so..." Thorne said from where he leaned against the wall, thinking. He did have an ingredient worthy of the struggle MJ had experienced with the evil plant, right? What did he have that was rare enough..?
"If she was really faking, I think she would have waited 'til we split up for the day to go. Maybe hung around the Forest even longer..." instead, she had listened to their joint cajoling and gone off to get healed up.
He looked over at Orla through his shaggy fringe and gave her a quiet - but hopefully reassuring - smile.

Orla’s restlessness had begun to settle, so she wandered closer to Thorne and slid her back down the wall to sit cross-legged on the cold flagstones. The temperature didn’t bother her, in fact it felt nice to concentrate on the cold instead of her worry.
”Mm…” she murmured, leaning her head against Thorne’s knee. “I‘m glad we got the ingredient and MJ agreed to leave before something worse happened…”
Orla fiddled with some loose threads on the hem of her skirt for a moment before speaking again, knowing Thorne wouldn’t judge her.
“I was so scared when I saw her arm…but honestly, I can’t wait to go back and explore some more when we are more prepared.”

Thorne lifted a hand, hesitated a moment, then found himself gently stroking Orla's flyaway hair. It wasn't like petting a dog or a cat, he didn't mean for it to be demeaning or anything, but Orla seemed like she could...use something like that, with the way she was leaning against him.
"Bruises almost always look worse than they are-" He said, hopefully reassuringly - though he knew exactly what she meant. Poor MJ had seemed so banged up-
And he couldn't help a little bark of laughter.
"Of course you can't! Even though we'll get in trouble!" Because of course it was a we, there had to be someone responsible along, right?

"All better!" MJ cheered as she hurried up to her friends. She had no idea what they had been talking about while waiting, so she hoped she wasn't interrupting a top secret or important conversation.
"Some Gryffindor showed up, and she was kinda rude..." Which seemed par for the course with quite a few Gryffindors. What was with that house that gave them all an attitude?
MJ grinned at Orla and then turned to Thorne, "Ready to trade?"
She got her bag and opened it up to take out her Potions Kit. MJ wasn't entirely sure what Thorne had to offer, but maybe it would be worthwhile. The trade had to be fair, after all!
So she waited to see what he had to offer or wanted to trade, since he already knew what she had -- the Lariwort.

"See? She's okay!" Thorne pointed out with a grin, amused by the timing. Speak of the devil, his granddad would have said, but MJ was no devil! She was far too sweet! And noble! And everything! Thorne pushed away from the wall without bumping into Orla's head, giving his friend one last soothing pat.
Hopefully, now that she could see MJ, Orla would perk up again.
"I've got a few ingredients, uhm. I have-" He ticked off on his fingers.
"Do you want Pearlweed, Crimsonvine, Mercy's Lace or Windroot? I'd be willing to part with any of them, since you went and got all bruised up for my sake!" And if she'd been seriously hurt, Thorne would have felt bad for weeks!

Orla was over the moon to see MJ pain-free and back with them, but she repressed the urge to check the bruises were really gone. Madam Pomfrey surely mended every ill MJ walked in with.
She did not, however, resist the urge to react when MJ mentioned a rude Gryffindor that had come into the hospital wing too. Orla screwed up her face and stuck out her tongue - why were so many Gryffindor's so obnoxious?
"She must have been some eejit for you to call her rude," she said as she stood up.
A few of their yearmates came to mind too, of course, and Orla grumbled about them as she stepped over to support MJ's satchel as she took out her potions kit.

"Dunno what her deal was, she was making faces and acting all dramatic." MJ snorted and thanked Orla with a smile as she supported her satchel. She was lucky to have such wonderful friends around her.
She looked at what Thorne removed from his own collection of Ingredients and held out the container with the Lariwort, "I'll happily take your Windroot for this."
Since he had offered it, it would be a smooth trade and MJ was happy. Windroot seemed like a pain to collect, and she didn't fancy trying her luck with the Whomping Willow any time soon to get some.
"If either of you need help to collect something again, don't hesitate to ask. I might even already have what you need to trade..." MJ glanced at her Potions Kits. It wasn't bursting or anything, but she had definitely taken a lot of time to collect things.

MJ held out the precious Lariwort, and Thorne offered his vial on Windroot in return- it didn't seem like a completely fair trade to him. He'd won the root as a reward for some assignment or other, while MJ and Orla had risked their own safety to help him get the Lariwort.
But MJ would likely insist, even if he protested, so he simply took the trade in the nature it was offered, adding his new ingredient.
This time, he wasn't going to mess up!!
"Listen to you, you're as bad as Orla!" he teased when MJ made her comment, grinning so she'd (and Orla would) know he was joking.
"You guys are birds of a feather, ready to run off and get us in trouble to collect things! Even if you didn't say that bit out loud." And even if Orla was, technically, a snake.

MJ's stomach rumbled as she took Thorne's Windroot and added it to her Potion Kit. With Orla's help holding her satchel, it was easy for her to tuck everything away and close it up again.
She smiled at both friends and gestured, "Come on, I think it's time for dinner. I don't know about you two but I'm starving after today!"
Sure, MJ hadn't got as much done as she had planned but she had certainly had quite the adventure regardless. Tomorrow would be a new day and she could start fresh.
After all, she had a bunch of potions she wanted to brew and it would be best to be well rested to tackle them.
Heading for the stairs, MJ paused only to make sure her friends were following before she started down towards the Great Hall.

Orla grinned at Thorne's teasing, glad to see her friends exchange their ingredients after their stressful forest antics. She relinquished MJ's satchel as she packed things away, marvelling at the variety contained in her potions kit.
"You could give that Mardling fella some competition, MJ," Orla declared as they followed their noses towards dinner.
"Maybe you should have charged Thorne a couple of galleons for the swap, too.."
