Personality
MJ used to be known as a whirlwind of chaotic energy -- just like her twin brother, Max (who sadly didn't get a letter), but coming to Hogwarts has helped her mature. Somewhat.
She's attentive in classes, determined to soak up as much about Magic as possible but she's still outgoing and playful with her close friends. She does her best to follow the rules as much as possible but she isn't beyond exploring or seeking out a mystery here and there.
One thing she definitely won't stand for is bullying. If someone decides to pick on a classmate, even if it's someone MJ isn't particularly close to, she'll step in and help protect them.
Even though she is a Muggleborn and at times feels like a fish out of water, MJ gives it her all in each subject. She always completes her homework and loves to participant in class discussion -- it's fascinating to hear things from her magical peers! She's always enthusiastic about learning new spells or potions and she's willing to help out a friend or classmate with studying too.
Despite how much MJ might study, she doesn't excel in all classes but works hard. As long as she tries her best, she's happy but getting top grades matters to her. MJ feels she has something to prove with being Muggleborn so is easily upset if her grades aren't the best.
She's eager and earnest, always wanting to befriend others or appeal to her teacher's good side. MJ doesn't mind making mistakes as long as she can learn from them. She's not known to have a temper as she'd rather quell her emotions before they get out of hand. If slighted, however, she is known to hold a grudge.
First impressions are important to her but she's willing to give someone a second chance, if they deserve it. MJ struggles with some guilt about coming to Hogwarts and she worries about her family a lot. They're very important to her and MJ hopes she can make them proud. She wants others to be happy around her.
One of her favourite aspects of magic is flying! MJ thinks it's so cool they get to ride broomsticks and she's become a fast fan of Quidditch. She thinks the sport is fascinating and loves to participate or spectate. MJ is keen to improve her skills in the sport and has dreams about going professional some day.
She is rather competitive so Quidditch is a good outlet for that -- otherwise, she'd probably be more insufferable during classes.

Backstory
MJ and Max, Max and MJ -- like mac and cheese, these two have always been inseparable. Their parents died when they were just babies, and they've been raised by their Grandmother and their Great-Auntie (twins as well, in fact). They grew up in a farmhouse with no end of excitement to their days. They have a modest apple orchard, some farm animals, and plenty of land to explore.
Despite the rocky start in life, the two of them have always had a great childhood. Anything they wanted to do, they were encouraged to try. MJ was a bit of a tomboy who was always climbing trees, picking up frogs out of ponds, and getting her new jeans dirty. Her brother was a bit more reserved but that was okay in her eyes; MJ would be there to lead the way for the both of them. She was never shy about asking questions, and her Granny would joke her first word was 'Why'.
Their guardians did their best, making sure that both kids would go to primary school, do their homework, and have a good birthday (and any other celebration). It wasn't easy raising two young children but it was a home filled with love and warmth.
When a Hogwarts representative arrived with a letter for MJ, there was a shift. Her connection to Max was put off kilter. There was a fracture there, but MJ likes to pretend everything is okay -- no way something as little as a magic school was going to get in the way of their unbreakable sibling bond!
Since coming to Hogwarts, MJ has adapted well to her new school and finds excitement in every day. She's not shy to talk to others, considering everyone a friend unless they explicitly state otherwise. She has thrown herself into all her subjects and found joy in learning to fly. While she's worried about Max and what will happen when she goes home, MJ is reassured to know Hogwarts will be waiting for her to return.

They grew up in a farmhouse with no end of excitement to their days. They have a modest apple orchard, some farm animals and plenty of land to explore.
One of their favourite games to play was hide and seek in the old orchard -- especially during the warmer, summer months. Normally, MJ quite enjoy these games but one day has stuck in her memories forever. The day she saw the dragonflies.
Bugs, spiders, worms... They never bothered MJ but for some reason her breath caught in her throat at the sight of so many dragonflies. The way they flitted through the air and how their buggy eyes seemed to stare at her, it just made her skin crawl.
MJ had screamed, causing her brother to come out of hiding and her Granny to come running from the kitchen. Even to this day, she hates the sight of dragonflies and suffers from bad dreams about them attacking her.
