After finishing up with her class in the afternoon, MJ had gone back towards the Forest Path. Luckily the weather hadn't changed much so it was still a good day to gather ingredients outside the Castle.
She had tried searching for honey earlier to no avail but she was determined to find some this time.
Walking along the path, MJ enjoyed the sounds of the forest as she looked for a spot that seemed promising. She diverged off a moment later, trekking a bit further in, to search for those trees with slightly more grass around them or growing in wilder patches.
Honestly, she didn't think she would ever forget that advice!
MJ had some jars in her bag whenever she found what she was looking for and in general, she was just excited to collect more ingredients!
Following a quiet buzzing, a hive was discovered. It overflowed with honey, but its location was quite out of reach -- high above, in its sturdy tree. The climb would be difficult, and risked aggravating the bees. Then the longer someone hung around the hive, the more likely they'd notice and attack.
A hive this full probably wasn't the only one in the area, even if the others may not be as bountiful. Was such a climb worth the added ingredient?

Goldmine! Kinda. Honey was a lovely, rich, gold colour so MJ felt the expression was appropriate.
This tree was a bit older looking than some of the others around it but the hive was clearly buzzing with activity. MJ walked around quietly, angling her head so she could check the best possible way to climb the tree.
Luckily, unlike some, it had lower branches that would make scaling it an easier task.
Which was good, considering she was going to have to deal with being as quick as possible to avoid fighting some bees. MJ nodded to herself and made sure her satchel was secure before she attempted the climb.
Going up was pretty straight forward. MJ reached for branches, pulled herself up or used some knots as footholds to give herself a boost. She sat on a branch, catching her breath and looked around.
The view from up here was pretty nice. In one direction was just more trees but off to the side she could see a bit of the path. MJ smiled to herself before going back to her task.
She climbed the rest of the way to the hive and positioned herself as close as possible without being in too much danger -- she hoped. The buzzing was a lot louder here and MJ didn't really want to get stung.
Taking out the first jar, MJ filled it with honey to the brim and tried not to get any on her hands or clothes. The sap she had gathered in the morning had been very sticky and unforgiving. She had to beg an older student in the common room to use a cleaning spell on her satchel.
The first jar was put into her satchel and MJ took out the second but paused. She watched the hive warily and saw it was vibrating slightly. Was this a sign for her to move on? MJ bit her lip and risked filling her second jar.
As soon as it was full she didn't stick around.
Jars were safely stowed and the satchel was on her back again. MJ didn't look at the hive as she focused on going back down the way she came. The buzzing did seem louder and angrier and she didn't want to know what was coming next.
When it was safe enough to do so, she jumped the rest of the way and landed cat-like on all fours. Only then did she risk looking over her shoulder but hurried back towards the Forest Path.
Stumbling onto it again, MJ panted and made sure nothing had followed her. She checked on her honey to make sure no accidents had occurred and sighed with relief. She didn't want to face collecting honey again any time soon so having two jars was nice.
There were other ingredients she could collect along the Forest Path so MJ recalled what she wanted for her potions. Gakhood seemed like a good ingredient to search for next.
She knew she had to look out for large, black leaves and so she did that as she walked along.

Stumbling upon the plant with distinctive black leaves, there was a creature curled around it -- with a mischievous look in its purple eyes. It was larger than a rat, and nervously bared its sharp teeth.
It was a Rodemin. Most students had either read about them or simply overheard some other students discussing it. There was only one Rodemin present, so sacrificing a bean (any flavour) would be enough to distract it -- which granted access to the viable ingredient.

There was a creature! MJ gasped in surprise but managed to stay pretty quiet about it.
The only thing she could think was 'purple rat' but once her brain got back into gear she realized what this was. This was what those older students had talked about in the common room one day. A creature around a red plant!
What had they said to do?
MJ wasn't in the habit of eavesdropping but while studying or doing homework, some students were still using the common room for other things and they could be loud.
"If only I had a bean... Maybe it wouldn't have bitten me then..." MJ muttered, repeating that part of the conversation with a smile. A bean! She had a couple of those in her robe pockets.
The one she pulled out was fruit yoghurt flavoured. MJ held it up, "You want this?"
She waved it so the creature would pay attention and then tossed it a bit to the left. It was a tense few moments as MJ waited to see if it would go after the bean but of course, the student had been right!
Once it was away from the Gakhood, MJ was free to harvest it. She did so with careful hands, not wanting to damage the valuable ingredient. Once it was free, she placed it safely into her potions kit and let out a sigh.
"Thank you -- oh, I don't remember what they called you! I'm so sorry!" Hopefully it wouldn't be too mad at that and enjoyed its bean.
MJ darted away and back onto the path. She had nothing else to get here so it would be better to spend her time elsewhere. She headed back towards the exit.
