Theme: Under the Sea
The double doors to the Founder's Ballroom were a wide welcome to staff and students -- into the grand, ornate room that was stunning and almost unreal in every detail. There were glowing chandeliers, hung high to low between huge windows or arches. The floor was so polished it reflected back at them almost like glass or crystal, and movements over it were fluid to the point of causing a risk of slipping for those in too much of a hurry.
The room was similar in size to the Great Hall, though perhaps bigger. There were magical, purple hues or drapes in various places -- and sea shell, silken decorations everywhere. It was like an enchanted palace, inspiring awe from even the most refined of visitors.
The ceiling matched with its theme, showing flowing and glittering distant surface of the ocean as if far away because they were deep underwater. The ripples of water and moonlight reflected back from the polished floor, as if they were floating in the ocean. The room was darkened, though not so dark it was a hazard or uncomfortable. Everything shone and glittered. Music came from a band with varied and ever-changing wizarding songs or tunes.
Through some arches was another large room, much brighter though just as wonderfully-decorated in purple hues and exquisite taste. There were many round dining tables, with black tablecloths yet purple-cushioned chairs. Dinner was provided, as well as an extended menu on various buffet tables -- including a scrumptious dessert assortment, favouring chocolates and cakes.
Anyone sat where they pleased -- or didn't care much for food yet and remained in the ballroom to dance or mingle. Headmaster Rickard was dressed impeccably, alongside many Professors. It was strange to see them so different, and with their hair down so to speak -- though each Head of House were dressed to reflect their representative house colours. Filch was there too, holding Mrs Norris in his arms as if dancing, and so was Hagrid.
The only possible damper on the whole fantasy and delight of the evening was a group of Daily Prophet reporters, clearly marked by logo and a more professional attire. Each were accompanied by photographer, who wasn't the least bit shy about documenting the historically annual event dating back to Hogwarts' inception.
If eligible to attend the ball, anyone may come and go as they please. It's a night-long event, which ends at midnight.
Some students hadn't entered yet though -- either too nervous, or simply waiting for their date in the corridor outside. Among them was Isadora Hyves, who wore a shimmery, pearly pink gown -- complete with real pearl earrings and necklace. Her hair was tied back, and she had a pink purse with her. She awaited her date, William Doren while fixing her seashell hair clip into place; a sentimental item that fit perfectly with the theme.
Nearby were Jody Primrose and Natalie Shorrs, having agreed to be each other's dates. Jody's curly hair was down, in wild spirals to reach her shoulders. She wore vivid blue dress robes, which she kept twirling in -- utterly in awe of the many adjustments Natalie had made to what was otherwise a very conservative and stiff attire her mother had sent.
Natalie easily drew the most attention, in her entirely self-made gown. It was a warm yellow, with multi-coloured details and sleeves. There were seashells perfectly added, and earrings that looked like tentacles reaching from bottom to top. Her hair was in a complicated braid, and she was the very picture of beautifully confident.
In her arm, however, was a red cape with black detailing -- which was why she and Jody were outside the ballroom, awaiting Jaxen Ashworth .
We've set the scene, now it's in your hands. Though NPCs are present, this isn't a modded event so everything's open to your storytelling. Have fun! Also, don't worry about music consistency -- unless dancing together (pair or group), it could be slow, rock, loud, or quiet etc. Punch bowls and food are available all night.
Students who are more historically inclined, or are from a long line of magical ancestry, would likely know that this ballroom was perhaps the most famous at Hogwarts during the Founder's era. Everyone has been here at least once; 4th years received dancing lessons on #6, as would have 5th, 6th, and 7th years in the past when it was their turn.
Please reference your character's outfit when you enter, then somewhere on each page you're actively posting. Put it at the end of your post (though can be woven / described in posts too of course). Do this by either having a prewritten summary you can copy & paste, or provide a link to an image you've based their looks on.
Doesn't have to be exact or super detailed, just enough so we have a general idea. Place the info and / or link in a quote box for emphasis and easy searching -- and you can edit / style it however you want.
Actively attending the Founder's Ball earns various rewards. We encourage everyone to join in as it only occurs once per RPG year. The most active poster from each house will be crowned Heir of the Ball, which earns a special prize. Not wanting to keep his dating waiting, William arrived promptly on time while fixing his sleeves self-consciously. While he had been present to tell the tailor what he wanted from her, she had clearly added her own flair to match the usual taste of what he'd see his mother or father wearing.
William had expected something plainer but he wasn't entirely upset with the results. He just... Didn't want to be as attention grabbing as these robes demanded.
He entered into the Ballroom and took a look around. Despite having come here in the past, William was always entranced by the history of the place and liked to have a moment to appreciate that.
It wasn't hard for him to be distracted when his date came into view and William stepped up to her side, "Miss Hyves. May I say, you look divine and I am ever honoured to escort you this evening."
He took her hand to kiss the back of it as he bowed in greeting. He could feel his stomach doing somersaults and he wasn't sure if it was because of his date or people staring at him and his date -- he had, of course, seen the Daily Prophet reporters as well but tried to ignore them.
Isadora was far more important to him this evening and he'd happily do whatever it took to ensure she had a wonderful time.
Releasing her hand, he managed even a small smile for Isadora and then looked around, "What would you like to do first? Would you like a drink or shall we dance?"
William is wearing a sleek and modern set of dress robes, tailored perfectly to fit and with extra length in the coat -- all in a classic charcoal black colour.
The accent is a teal blue which he has as a shirt but also it lines the inside of the robes. The robes are detailed on the lapels, cuffs and hems with silver thread that catches the light and draws attention to the wearer along with a silver chain accessory that he has fastened to his lapel and extends to a buttonhole.
His hair seems styled as usual, brushed back and neat, but the left side has a shell hair accessory that stands out and William is wearing classy dress shoes to bring the whole outfit together.

Amber was standing near the front of the Founder’s Ballroom, waiting for her two Hufflepuff friends – and missing tugging on her usual pigtails for comfort. As her mid-back length hair was done in open, flowing waves with only a waterfall braid on the back of her head and a little white water lily to adorn it, she had to make do with twirling a strand of hair around her finger with one hand instead.
However, it didn't help at all, the uneasiness inside of her stayed, as of course the whole reason for it (luckily) didn't vanish: her dress robe.
Amber felt uncomfortable wearing this elegant dress as she wasn’t quite used to it, or donning dresses in general. Her closet at home contained two simple dresses for farm festivals, which she had worn once or twice, but that was it. And definitely not these kind of fancy dresses people wore here at the ball! Therefore, no one would have ever seen her wear a dress at school before.
There was one simple reason for it: She preferred pants. Because in her opinion, dresses were nice to look at but impractical, especially during her favourite activities such as running around in nature, climbing trees, tending to animals... A dress would always get tangled up in some way!
However, as she had asked her parents for dress robes without anything specific in mind, her mother immediately had send her this one, seeing the chance to finally put her daughter in something girly, giving Amber not really a choice on wearing something different.
Her dormmates said she looked cute in this one during their preparation for the ball together, but when Amber had seen herself in the mirror, she wasn't so sure. True, she did look nice, though also so different! But she had to admit one thing: she really loved the colour and the feeling of the fabric.
Her floor-length dress draped gracefully, with the lower layer of the skirt in a rich royal blue. Above, the fabric featured delicate embroidered ornaments in a lighter shade of blue for an elegant contrast. A waist belt emphasized her figure, adorned with a type of white water lily. The flared sleeves were in such a pale shade of blue that they almost appeared white.
Amber had paired it with dark blue ballet flats, as for her anything with heels would be a nuisance. For jewellery, she of course wore her Captain's badge and the glistening carnelian ear studs from Joshua. The ear stud's colour might not be a perfect match to her dress, but she wanted to at least wear something she was comfortable in besides her shoes. And by now, they were her favourite ear studs by far.
While waiting, Amber clutched her blue purse with her unoccupied hand behind her back and watched how other students met up in front of the ballroom or already formed couples entering it. There were really a lot of different dress robes seen today – and she was wondering again why she actually was here, wearing a dress!
Right, she had thought the ball was a fun idea. A new experience. She just hadn't expected dress, even though they were called dress robes. Cunning Mom!
Amber sighted.
Maybe it would be great. At least her friends were with her. And with them, normally everything was fun!

When Caine had asked his father for dress robes the man sure hadn't skimped. The Huffepuff wasn't the type to ask for anything specific - heck, he didn't know what to wear that was formal... but his father did.
Sebastian Hawke had gone all out it seemed and, for a moment, Caine stared at the package in bewilderment. How many layers did he need? One undershirt, one over shirt, a robe that had a vest built in.
Hufflepuff hued tie and black pants. Right. Right. The robes lay out on his bed and he gave Joshua a woeful look when he motioned to it.
"What is all this?" he whispered before throwing it on and struggling to tie a tie properly. He'd learned, of course, because of his Hufflepuff tie but this was... formal. And he was working his fingers as quickly as possible along buttons and pins, watching the black cloth all come together.
He exhaled slowly, running his fingers through his hair before combing out the usual spikes and making sure that it was well tamed. Ready to go, he glanced at Josh and waved, heading down. He would normally wait for him but he figured that he'd be joined and didn't want to leave his friends waiting.
Amber would be there. And Sinead. And maybe even the Gryffindork he'd almost hit with a firework - Evan. But Caine didn't want to see the green eyed trouble maker (did he have a right to call someone that?). No, no of course not. But, stepping near the front of the ball.
Blue eyes scanned for Amber, or one of his friends. The crowd was a little much and he didn't see any of them. Pigtails. Look for the pigtails. He scanned once. Twice. Again. Furrowing his brow he stepped around a gathered group of other students with a muttered, "Excuse me" before coming to stand near the door.
And... there was Amber.
Oh.
Was that Amber?! Her hair was in waves and her blue dress was stunning! Oh yeah, he'd make Josh's awkward self dance with her alone because she looked like a princess!
"Amber!" he called, slipping around others that were heading inside, stopping next to her with a smile, "You look amazing!" And she did! Her dress was beautiful, her hair was lovely and styled in a way he'd never seen it before. He didn't want to say he'd missed her three times but... he had. He couldn't wait to see Joshua! He bet his best friend looked wonderful, too!
Caine's father sent him dress robes made of the best material and perfectly tailored to his frame. The matte black robes are met with matte black dress pants and a black belt with a golden buckle. The black undershirt is made of the softest of silks and harbors a floral design with matte black thread against the shiny material. On his lapel there is a honey gold flower that matches the honey gold tie he was sent.
His hair, rather than the chaotic mess it typically is, has been combed and styled to fit the occasion (as described in a letter from his father).
Shoes are a shining black with white soles.

It had been fun getting ready. And it also had not been fun at all. Caine had struggled with his dress robes and Joshua had with his. Well, he had mostly struggled with the bow tie, as he was used to straight neck ties and he had to try and do it several times. And then he had tried his best to polish his best shoes (they were still a little worn despite his bets efforts).
He had decided to cut open a bracelet of polished flinstone to wear it as a chain at his waist line. It looked nice with the light blue dressrobes his mum had made for him. He thought he looked quite dapper, altogether. Not as stylish as Caine's dressrobes, but he still felt a very new sense of confidence when he looked at himself in the mirror.
Caine, always the whilrwind, had left before Joshua was done with his hair, so he walked to the Founders' Ballroom with a group of the Hufflepuff girls from their year. This was also fun.
The girls were all giggly and he was happy to butt in with a joke or two -- easy crowd for that. Though, he got a little bored when they went on to speculate about Tae-Sang Lee's date for tonight.
They did not appreciate his suggestion that it was the Slytherin House ghost himself, which he had found hilarious.
He was glad they were close to the ballroom by now and he ditched them the first chance he got (staying polite however) to look for Caine and Amber to hang out with.
Ah. There.
He spotted Caine easy, Joshua knew what he was wearing already (though with the lighting and his sleek hair, Caine looked perfectly regal tonight, Joshua had to do a double take). Caine was with a girl in royal blue -- Joshua stopped dead in his tracks when he recognised the girl as Amber. His friend Amber.
It was as though for the first time ever, he truly realised she was, in fact, a girl.
She looked absolutely amazing, he quite admired her whole outfit and the way her hair was flowing with the braids, perfectly matching. Oh, and she was still wearing the earstuds he made. The orange contrasted the blue brilliantly.
He gulped, suddenly realising he had been staring.
"Hello there," he said as he finally dared approach.
'Get a grip, Joshua!'
"Aren't we quite a sight to behold. We should hold fancy dinners more often." He grinned.
He looked himself down. He loved the selfmade dressrobes. But he hoped he did not look too shabby next to his very beautiful friends. No. Today wasn't about that. It was to enjoy themselves and have a good time.
Joshua is wearing dressrobes of a pale blue colour made by Mrs. Twiggs. They are modern-ish with a simple design. He's wearing a white undershirt and bowtie. His shoes, while polished are a bit worn out. He accessorised with a flintstone chain (of his own design and making) hanging loosely around his waist. His hair is mostly sleeked back.

Just like last year, Sinead wandered up from the Slytherin dorms to the ballroom. Only this time going to the ball seemed a lot more fun because she had Caine, Josh and Amber to hang out with this time. Upon her arrival at the entrance to the ballroom, the youngster glanced around as she admired the decorations and also looked for her friends at the same time.
After a while, Sinead spotted the trio and made her way towards them as she skirted around the edges of other groups of people. When she got closer, the girl waved to them. All three of her friends looked amazing in their outfits, in her eyes.
"Hi you three, you all look amazing." The brunette said as she greeted her friends with a shy smile.
Sinead is wearing a long purple dress with diamonds on the shoulder straps and around the middle from the previous year. Her shoes are silver with two inch heels and she has a new silver necklace with a pendant in the shape of a seashell. Her hair has been left down, flowing around her shoulders and she is wearing tiny silver seashell shaped studs.
The uncomfortable feeling inside of Amber didn’t vanish. It just increased as she saw other pairs in beautiful garments entering the ballroom.
She didn’t look awkward, right? … Just where were her friends?
Amber waited. And waited. She tried to spot them in the crowd, but to no avail. There were so many people!
She was currently distracted by a couple in gorgeous dress robes walking right past her as a familiar voice called her out. She turned her head around just to see a smiling boy in front of her. A quite stunning one at that!
Amber blinked and stared at him. It took her mind a moment to comprehend that it actually was indeed Caine. Mostly his tamed hair had her confused. And, well, for once he appeared not as chaotic as usual, but rather like a well-groomed gentleman. And she had to admit, the outfit looked really great on him! She especially liked the flower.
Her lips started to form a smile, though her cheeks took on a hint of blush at his compliment, not having expected that. She was about to answer, her finger still curling around her strand of hair, as her other Hufflepuff friend arrived. She had not seen him coming, but had heard his voice, so was expecting him. With a bright smiled she turned to him.
“Hi –“
Her words got stuck in her throat as she stared at her other friend, way longer than she had at Caine.
Wait, that was Josh, right?
While Caine had appeared stunning, he was… dashing.
Perhaps it was the pale blue of his dress robes that brought out his blue eyes and made a great contrast to his red hair. Or the bow tie which gave him a gentleman-like appearance as well.
And she just loved the flintstone chain on his waist! “Oh, did you make that yourself?” Amber automatically asked with glistening eyes as soon as she perceived it, one hand reaching for it before she even knew.
Once she noticed that, however, she quickly pulled her hand back, the blush on her cheeks deepening. She looked at him again, trying to find words.
“You - It looks amazing!” Amber repeated what Caine had said to her, though changed her words in the last second. Why didn’t she just compliment him? She looked away a bit embarrassed.
Joshua’s words came to her mind and she finally got enough composure back to answer with a grin.
“Yeah, we do! Though I really don’t know how my two chaotic friends changed into this”, Amber chuckled and waved her hand between them “But you both really do look great!”
She now felt more at ease and looked at her friends – though her eyes darted more often in the direction of Joshua as there seemed to be something captivating about him.
Before she could think more about it, Sinead joined them. Amber gave the girl a welcoming smile.
Sinead was looking stunning as well, Amber especially liked her accessories.
“Hello! I like your ear studs, it fits the theme!” She complimented her, then looked at the whole group.
“Shall we go then? What’s the plan, first eating or dancing?”
Well, she was hungry as it was usually dinner time around this time of day. But she was open to the other suggestion as well.
For one calm moment, Caine just enjoyed the atmosphere with Amber. She was really lovely with water colored cloth and her hair done like that - not enough to keep his attention when others passed because, well, he had the attention span of a flea.
Then, without much flourish, Joshua was there. Dressed in the same pale blue he'd seen in the common room and looking just as splendid as the rest of them. He couldn't help it! The three of them cleaned up pretty well if he did say so himself.
But Josh was staring and Amber was blushing and Caine's smirk widened a little as he averted his gaze off into another direction. Let them have their moment, he was still all aboard the romance train for the two of them. One way or another he'd see to it they had the best of nights.
Plotting was going smoothly as his two friends were goo-goo eyeing one another and his silence was easily missed or interpreted as awe (whatever they chose, if they noticed at all). He tried to think of various scenarios, ways to make them dance together or have alone time... and he was thinking of all the things and ways he could slip away to give them that much needed time without looking like a total arse when, to his great relief, Sinead appeared.
Dressed in purple with the prettiest of earrings he got an idea.
A wonderfully devious idea! He stepped nearer to her, sweeping her hand into his own and leaned in to kiss the top with a flourish. Casting an upward smirk and a nod of his head toward his friends he hoped she remembered the deal they'd made a while ago.
She was in on this!
"You look stunning, Sinead." he told her, straightening. Oh, he hadn't noticed he towered over her. Oof that would make secret whispering harder, wouldn't it? Ah, well, he'd could roll with it.
"Whatever you guys want to do. I think I'd enjoy a dance with Miss Blackwood if no one else is bothered." Yes! A dance! Hopefully he was alright at dancing and didn't trip her or anything. That would be embarrassing.

Jax smoothed down the front of his robes as he made his way down the stairs. The news that Tae-Sang was taking his sister to the ball had left a sour taste in his mouth, and he'd opted to skip Snape's potions class, or torture chamber, or whatever it was that he'd been calling it.
Instead he'd retreated to his dormitory and finished up packing his trunk for the journey home the following day. It was difficult to know what to pack and what to leave behind. They weren't going to be home for long, just a short break for the holidays. But what if he left something behind that he needed whilst he was at home?
So naturally all of his sketchbooks and art supplies were packed away ready for the holidays.
Then when he'd finished packing and he had no way of putting it off any longer, he got changed into his dress robes. Now he was heading towards the ballroom, when he really could've just stayed in his dormitory all night.
The only thing that convinced him to attend in the end was to ensure someone was there to keep an eye out for Verity and Kody, and to be there if they needed him. He assumed they'd be fine, but he also had to find Natalie in order to collect Kody's cape - she wouldn't recognize his brother among the sea of students.
Approaching the ballroom, he spotted Natalie and Jody easily in the crowd. Natalie had what he assumed was the finished cape and he smiled as he walked over to them.
"Jody, Natalie" he greeted them "you both look lovely tonight" he complimented, knowing that this sort of thing was important to girls, and with the effort that seemed to have gone into their outfits, it appeared as though they weren't exceptions to that rule.
"You finished it?" he nodded toward the cape in Natalie's arms, but didn't reach for it. Instead waiting for Natalie to offer it to him, and wondering if there was some kind of catch. Some kind of payment, he'd hardly expected her to do this from the kindness of her heart, especially since she didn't know him or Kody at all.
The dress robes were sleek and elegant, fitting him better than imagined. They were a teal green, with a high collar. The colour seemed to compliment the green of his eyes whilst also representing his house pride, due to the blue tones. He wore a black bow-tie with teal detailing to complete the look, with black shoes to match.

Feeling a bit stared at by Amber, Joshua fumbled with his sleeves, then tried to exchange a glance with Caine. He'd have told him if he looked silly, right?
Joshua narrowed his eyes. His friend was smirking. Was he schemikg something?
Without him?
Before he could dwell on the meaning of this however, Amber started talking and Joshua happily gave her his attention.
"Yeah! One of my personal favourites." He grinned as he lifted the chain of flintstone, then let it drop to dangle again.
He'd probably fix it back up into proper jewelery and put it in his bag with the other pieces he was going to show Kamari Sagemore tomorrow, but for tonight, it tied his outfit together.
When she complimented him, he didn't quite know what to say. He smiled, however.
Joshua just knew he'd be thinking about it for the next few years. Like that one time in second year Reena Ashworth said his hair looked good that day and he'd been riding that high until the incident last year made it awkward.
Thankfully he did not need to think of any eloquent response, as he was saved by the bell, a.k.a. the arrival of Sinead.
"Woah. That's an amazing colour on you," he said. She had arrived in a stunning purple gown, amd what could he say?
Purple was simply his favourite colour.
Though, royal blue was very present on his mind right now...
Joshua only just kept himself from snorting when Caine bent down to take Sinead's hand and kiss it, having to cover up by turning around and coughing behind Amber's back.
Caine was such a goof. Though he made it look smooth somehow, Joshua was rather fascinated by Caine's ability to walk the line between absurd and cool so effortlessly.
"You guys have fun. I'm just here for the food," he joked.
"Care to join me for dinner, Miss Lloyd?"
He stretched out an angled arm so she could hook hers under it. Though as he looked at her, his sense for mischief gave way for awe once more. She was simply stunning.
Sinead was suprised when Amber and Josh complimented her outfit and it briefly showed on her face before being replaced by a smile and very unusually for the girl, a blush appeared on her cheeks.
When Caine also complimented her outfit and then approached her, swept her hand into his with a kiss on the top of the hand, Sinead thought her heart was going to stop, it was beating that fast.
The brunette blushed to the roots of her hair, it was clear the girl was flustered and not used to such attention which would make amusing viewing for her three classmates.
The chemistry during the interactions between Amber and Josh had not gone unnoticed by Sinead and the girl grinned slightly as she watched them whilst trying to not blush anymore, than she already was. Her thoughts were scattered all over the place. "T-Thanks.....the dress, earrings and necklace, were all gifts from my grandparents." The bashful brunette responded, as she finally gathered her thoughts, a fond tone creeping into her voice when she spoke of her beloved grandparents.
Sinead caught Caine's smirk and nod towards Amber and Josh as he towered over her. She looked up at him and nodded back with a shy smile. The brunette had remebered her promise to help him out and felt happy that she had got to know him more in the process.
"It would be an honor to dance with you Mr Hawke." Sinead said with a soft giggle as her eyes sparkled with with amusement at having a shared secret plan with the dark haired boy, that she was so curious about.
Amber hadn’t noticed at all that Caine was indeed rather quieter than his usual chatty nature. She had been too preoccupied with grasping the change in appearance of her friends.
Her eyes followed the chain as Joshua dropped it. His favourite? The flintstones or the chain in general?
Before she could ask, Sinead arrived – and got a compliment from Joshua for her and choice of dress.
Amber felt a knot in her stomach upon hearing it. Why did he compliment Sinead, but hadn’t her? Well, he did say something about them being a sight to behold, but that was just meant for her whole friend group, not her exactly.
Wait, why did she even care?
Again, her thoughts were interrupted, this time by Caine’s action. Her eyes widened as he quite smoothly took Sinead’s hand and kissed it?! It felt weird looking at that, and then Caine felt like being a gentleman at the same time. However, Sinead seemed to enjoy it. Her blush was cute!
Amber grinned, though it made her wonder. Since when were they so close? Had she missed something?
As they wanted to dance, Amber somehow expected Joshua to do so as well. However, he seemed to be fonder of the food. Typical. Amber chuckled.
“Only for the food? But that would be a shame after all our practise!” She retorted with a smirk. She hadn’t forgotten their dance at the Founder’s Frivolity.
“But, as luck would have it, I am indeed mighty hungry!”
Smiling, Amber hooked her arm under his, laying her hand onto his arm. She turned her head to him with a bright smile, meeting his gaze for a moment, her heart thumping – and she quickly broke their eye contact again, motioning with her free hand forward.
“Lead the way, Mister Twiggs!”
With that, she fully entrusted Josh to lead them safely into the Ballroom.
Amber was amazed when they entered. She didn’t know what she had been expecting, but clearly not this!
The ceiling showing the ocean, the moonlight reflecting on it and the floor. It had something magical – and not only because it was indeed made out of magic.
The Professors and the Headmaster were all present as well, donned in amazing dress robes as well. Amber quickly spotted the Daily Prophet reporters as well, quickly avoiding her gaze from them as she didn’t want to draw any attention from them. She had no desire whatsoever to get into the news. However, it seemed they would take some photos over the evening. She sighted.
After taking everything in, Amber finally spotted the dinner area.
“I guess, it’s that way?” She pointed to the second room to help Joshua guide her.

Sinead's and Caine's conversation blended into the background, as Amber joked about his want for food.
"Ahh, yes. All this practice, just to get some dessert."
He winked, then stepped back, arm still looped with Amber's, to move his hips in a circle to the sound of the song that was heard from the ballroom. The mischief-gene was too strong with him.
"I shall lead then," he stopped his (silly) hip dancing when Amber agreed to have dinner first.
Entering the ballroom, he was amazed by the design. He especially loved the purple hues everywhere, but also the attention to detail to bring the theme alive.
Spotting the professors, he quickly turned the other way and glanced at the Daily Prophet people instead.
He turned away from them when Amber had spotted the archway into a second room and he did not hesitate to enter.
The round tables were nice, yet he headed straight for the buffet, lowering his arm to let Amber slip out.
"Ooh! Chocolate cake!" Joshua skipped the healthy choice and went straight for dessert.
Blame Headmaster Rickard and his no-dessert-on-school-nights rule. This Hufflepuff was getting his whole semester's worth of dessert tonight!
He had piled up quite the plate of chocolate cake and mochi when he glanced around for an empty table for him and Amber (and their friends, if they decided to join after all).
The light was a little brighter in here and he caught himself staring again. Amber looked even more beautiful in proper lighting.
Nuh uh. Stop staring. She'll think you're being weird.
Better eat his dessert.
"We are gonna dance though," he said. He had to eat carefully as to not smear any chocolate on his rather light dress robes.

Cynthia had butterflies in her stomach. Her slinky emerald dress swished so elegantly against her legs, the sequins sewn into the fabric casting sparkling reflections when the light hit them just right.
The dress made her feel like a princess. The only problem was the....chest area. It didn't go down immodestly or anything, but...the style definitely was meant for someone larger there.
Fortunately, some of the older girls were really talented with modification spells and safety pins and had helped her out, so her dress fitted correct in all the important places.
And...though the dance and having a date made her feel very grown up and refined, she couldn't keep from twirling to make her skirt sway and cast sparkles on the floor and walls.
But she tried not to do that too often, wanting to appear grown up, at least at first, when Kody joined her.
Cynthia is wearing a slinky, emerald green sheath dress with thin straps and rows of sequins sewn the full length of it like the scales of a mermaid. It clearly was meant to have a plunging neckline, but has been modified to correctly fit an athletic teenager.
She's wearing black ballet flats, and her hair is braided in a cute plait down her back. She has an iridescent seashell clip at the end of the braid as well.

Caine took his time, lingering back with Sinead as he watched his best friends walk ahead of them. One step at a time. He let them get a lead on himself and Sinead before he leaned nearer, a bit of glee in his voice.
"Remember that thing we talked about?" he asked her, nodding toward Josh and Amber, "The goal is romance! Like the frog and the seagull."
He doubted that Sinead would get the reference but Caine knew it and that was what mattered!
He walked with her, behind his friends as he laughed at Josh's terrible dancing before glancing sidelong at Sinead.
"Don't worry, I'm a much better dancer than that at the very least." Because at least he didn't gyrate. He led her into the ballroom and glanced around at the beautiful decorations, breath caught as he glanced up at the ceiling with awe. It was lovely, wasn't it?
"If I disappear on you it's for the name of the game, you understand." he offered a smile, hoping his friend would understand. He wasn't blowing her off. He just wanted to make sure that everything was in its place.
From where they stood he could still make out his friend's back and Amber's dress. He could still see them and move if he needed to but, for now, he was content.
