He flew from the castle as fast as his legs could carry him, running down the forest path towards Hagrid's hut, arms spread in excitement. He knew the way very well and could probably have found his way there with his eyes closed!
When Kody did arrive, he was panting hard. He took a moment to catch his breath and check that Hagrid wasn't around outside. He hoped he'd get to pet Fang too... Okay so, he wasn't very well acquainted with the groundskeeper personally but he had always hoped to befriend him!
After all, didn't Hagrid know a lot about creatures too?
Walking up the few steps to the door, Kody gave it a hearty knock, "Mister Hagrid! It's Kody Ashworth. Are you in?"
A grin came to Kody's face as he thought about the year ahead.
Hopefully he wouldn't get too distracted and remember why he had come calling on Hagrid in the first place.

It was a nice stroll down the forest path with a friend after COMC and Joshua felt in no particular hurry. They had just finished the first class of this year and he felt confident they would get anything sorted out in time.
One of the first steps was finally getting to get their kits and the first stop was a welcome one.
The groundskeeper always seemed kind to Joshua, bringing a new meaning to the term ‘gentle giant‘. Joshua certainly did not feel rude or intruding for stopping by and asking for a spare gardening pot.
“We were interrupted on the train ride, so how actually are your folks and animals?“, he asked Amber just as the hut came in sight.
There was still some way to walk before actually reaching their destination, so he was happy to hear about any mishaps that might have occurred on his friend‘s farm this summer.
When they at last arrived, he noticed that someone else had beat them to it.
“Hello there,“ he greeted.
Then he stood back. The kid had announced his presence for anyone around to hear.
An Ashworth kid, again.
“We won‘t be intruding long,“, he gave the Gryffindor boy a smile.
“It‘s also Joshua Twiggs and Amber Lloyd, just stopping by!“, he announced in a similar energy to Ashworth‘s.

Amber really liked that Joshua and her didn't go back to the castle right after class, but instead walked down the forest path. She liked the castle, too, but nature still beat it.
Being into herbs and such, Amber had agreed, it was really due to get their kits.
She smiled as Joshua asked her about her summer.
"They're doing great, thanks for asking! Actually, I made a new friend. A big, brown and soft sheep. I called her Brownie. She's rather new in the flock. At first, she was really shy. Not even my dad could bring her to letting him pet her. So, I decided to try lifting her shyness."
Amber noticed, that Joshua liked hearing about her adventure, so she told him, how she first tried giving the sheep oats. But it didn't care about it, which was quite unusual.
Thus, Amber searched for something it would like. She tried different fruits, flowers and herbs, and Brownie actually came a few steps closer to her each day, seeming to getting interested in her - or the food. Until finally it ate a daisy out of her hand.
For more story wasn't enough time, because they arrived at Hagrid's hut. But she was sure, if Joshua wanted to hear more stories later, they would be more time for it. Although, she also hoped he had some interesting stories to share.
Noticing someone else already standing in front of the hut, she greeted Kody with a short wave and a "Hi!".
After the announcement from Joshua, she waited to find out, what would happen next.
Fang barked at the hearty knocks, and even scratched at the door a bit before Hagrid nudged him aside so he could open it.
'Hello.' Hagrid greeted them warmly, having recognised Kody and Joshua the most. 'How can I help yeh? And if yeh here for a pot, fresh soil an' all, I've got yeh covered.'
He gestured to a little counter setup just inside the door, which was certainly new. He'd had so many students coming and going for garden pots last year that Hagrid decided it was due time to be better prepared from now on. The pots sat neatly, already topped with fresh and rich soil, waiting to be claimed. Only one each, of course, but it certainly made the process far more efficient.
'How's yeh first day back at Hogwarts?' Hagrid wondered, as it was still a bit early in the term to have students showing up for things like this. They must be quite keen.

Joshua ooh-ed and ahh-ed at Amber's tale about the new sheep in their flock, shaking his head in mild disbelief that her father appeared to have been at a loss with the new addition. It was a captivating story and he smiled at his friend's persistence and success in trying to befriend the new sheep.
He was sure Brownie was thankful for Amber's efforts. No sheep should be afraid of its shepherd. That would just cause unnecessary stress on the poor thing.

The loud barks that errupted from behind the door were a good sign that the groundskeeper was indeed home. When the door was opened, Joshua smiled at the warmth with which they were greeted. And he had already prepared spare pots and soil? It must have been a popular choice last year, he mused.
"Actually, that is exactly what we're here for," he said. "You're the man!"
Joshua offered his fist to Hagrid, feeling rather curious just how much larger his fist bump had to be compared to those of a man of average size.
"Hey, puppy!", he clicked his tongue at the big dog - who looked almost small to him now after the lesson that lay behind him. He also offered him a few fingers to sniff before he accepted the offer and took a pot for himself.
"It's great, just finished this year's first Care of Magical Creatures class," he beckoned towards himself and Amber. He had no idea what class Kody Ashworth would have had, only that it couldn't have been the same.

Kody smiled politely at the boy (he was a Twiggs, right?) and girl (no idea who she was...) who had arrived after him but was more interested in the barking coming from Hagrid's hut!
When the door swung open, Kody grinned up at the friendly face that greeted them.
"Yes please!" He replied when the Groundskeeper mentioned the garden pots. He crouched down, attempting to coax Fang closer so he could pet him. Kody hoped Hagrid wouldn't mind -- it seemed like the Hufflepuff boy had the same idea anyway.
If only he had something the dog would like as a snack. Hm, something to consider for the next time he came to visit.
Kody took a pot and nodded at Hagrid, "I had a History of Magic class this morning. It was okay, we were learning about Goblin stuff."
There was a spike of jealousy that the older students had got to have Care of Magical Creatures already.
He could only hope the afternoon would come quickly so he could go to his favourite class! He thought about what fun or interesting creature they could possibly meet as he hugged the pot close to his chest.
"Thanks, Mister Hagrid!" Kody remembered his manners before he'd dart away again. This time, he'd be off to find Professor Sprout.

Hearing the dog bark, Amber waited for the door to be opened. And really, there stood the huge groundkeeper.
“Hello!”, Amber replied with a smile at the warm welcome from Hagrid. “Yeah, we’d really like to have one!”
Seeing the fully stocked counter of prepared pots, she couldn’t but praise it.
“Wow, that’s what I call preparation! Seems like you’re expecting more visits?”, Amber guessed. It seemed rather desired by the students.
She took one pot for her, while the boys gave Fang some attention, which he definitely deserved. Good boy.
“Yeah, today we learned about Snarlpogs!”, added Amber to Joshuas explanation, seeming already excited again just talking about it.
“So, thanks for the pot! Let’s see what we’ll grow with that…”
Amber nodded at Hagrid with a smile, not able to wave, because her hands were full. She looked if Joshua was ready to depart, then she gently carried the pot along with him back to Hogwarts, making sure not to drop it on the way.

Fang was loving the attention, coming out of his shyness a bit to whine for scratches from Joshua and Kody.
Hagrid beamed at the mention of Care of Magical Creatures, especially as he knew what sort of surprise and rare opportunity had awaited the 5th years. History of Magic was less exciting, but he nodded at Kody's reply as well.
There wasn't much time to chat, though. The students eagerly answered his questions, then gathered their pots to leave. Hagrid waved them off, while Fang sulked by the door.
