An active, character-driven Hogwarts experience set in the early 2000s. Unique items, plots, and features. Non-canon; this isn't Harry Potter's story, it's ours.
This meal / thread is purely optional, if you wish to instead RP in your dormitory packing up your character's trunk or other parts of starting their day. Please keep in mind, in favor of starting summer as soon as possible, there isn't a lot of time to do so. If unsure, we recommend simply attending breakfast or waiting for the train ride.
It has been a busy few days, as RPG days whizz by mainly as meals and finishing things up. If this is overwhelming, feel free to just post where you can or even wait until the summer starts in a day or two. Once the RPG year changes, our pacing will be restored to normal and we will have over two RL months to simply enjoy it. We thank everyone for an awesome first RPG year.
And so, the story continues...
As the sunny end of June arrived, so did their last day at Hogwarts before the summer. And it wasn't even that, as all that was left was Breakfast -- then they'd be making the trek down to Hogsmeade Station while lugging trunks and cages.
Dormitories were being packed up, for those who left it for the last second, and friends being hugged constantly as they would surely be missed over the next few weeks. Though some were excited to make a trip home with those they were closest too, whereas no everyone was excited about leaving Hogwarts -- several Slytherins in particular seemed to dread it.
Breakfast was chaotic, though not just in the Great Hall. There was no trolley on the train ride home, so some stuffed snacks into pockets then dashed out to finish getting ready. No one was in uniform today, apart from a few Prefects or those who believe they should be.
Many notes were being passed, containing addresses or contact details. Some had even brought their trunks or pet cages to breakfast, which was especially common for Gryffindors and Ravenclaw -- as to avoid going up and down those huge towers more times than necessary or that they could endure.
The mood had greatly shifted, with lively chatter and excitement for the summer growing. All that was left now was to await mail, then it'd be time to head out. This Hogwarts school year was over, but the adventure was far from done.
The Hogwarts Exam Ranking (determines best in the year) is displayed in the Entrance Hall for all to see. Your character cannot know these results unless they post there viewing them, or someone has done it on their behalf and shared the information. This is an official academic ranking.
Exam grades have also been sent out to 1st and 4th years, whereas 5th years will need to wait until the summer for their OWL grades -- the ranking may hint at things, but are not an accurate way to determine resulting grades as even those at the bottom may have scored high, just not got top marks. Assuming someone even got top marks. This is only a measurement of where you placed among your peers.

Before entering the Great Hall, Martha had paused in the Entrance Hall for a moment. From where she stood, the noticeboard was obscured by a sea of students who clamoured to see how they had ranked. Some came away happy, some relieved and others had been visibly upset.
Her stomach had knotted and she knew then, she would rather wait for her results during the summer. She didn't need to see how badly she stacked up against her peers. So she sat at the Hufflepuff table and anxiously twirled hair around her finger.
Martha's mind raced. A hundred different possibilities were popping up and each time she worried they could be true.
She closed her eyes, placed her hands flat on the table in front of her and took a few, slow and deep breaths. She needed to calm down before she went into anxiety overdrive. Despite trying, her leg still bounced under the table but Martha had long given up on trying to curb that habit.
As long as she got good enough grades to pass into sixth year and take the subjects she wanted or needed to proceed after Hogwarts... Then everything was going to be okay.
Inhale. Pause. Exhale.
Martha opened her eyes again and started to pick a few, simple to eat items for her plate - a croissant, some butter and jam, a spoonful of scrambled egg and some fruit. She still had a bit of packing left to do (and then unpack and repack to make sure she had everything) so she didn't want to linger in the Great Hall for too long.
For one final time, the owls screeched their arrival into the Great Hall -- though were significantly less than the students were used to, even during events such as the Christmas holidays. There were only a few packages, for those who needed a Knight Bus ticket or otherwise to help them get home once they arrived at King's Cross.
Others were reminders for pick ups, or even a few scolding notes about a student's poor packing habits that ought to be refined. Mostly, it was all about getting home -- or last-minute confirmations of friend visits, or permission to do so.
The Head Table emptied moments before the food vanished, with some Professors pausing to wish students a good summer and give farewells. Professor Rivera was sad, waving to anyone who gave their attention. The owls soon left, having also dropped off that morning's Daily Prophet, and then it was time to head down to the Front Gates and onward to Hogsmeade Station.
~ Breakfast ended ~
No letters were delivered.
Feel free to react to the Daily Prophet, and / or post and exit. Then proceed to the Hogsmeade section for boarding the train. You can preface it with the walk down to the station, or simply get right into picking a compartment; however you wish to RP it.
The train ride will be shorter than usual, as there's no trolley, so we'll be departing soon.
Orla noticed immediately that she was the only one wearing her robes, but that was alright. She loved her robes and their many pockets; wearing them kept her relatively chill-free in the more drafty parts of the castle. Underneath them though she was wearing a t-shirt and jeans, both of which had seen better days.
There was mending to do over the summer, but that would have to wait.
Orla took a seat at the Slytherin table just as the owls arrived. She didn't look up as the scant flock went about their business - she was still stewing in annoyance over the rankings.
As she grabbed a steaming pastry and stuffed it into her mouth, she looked around at the Ravenclaw table for MJ, disappointment slumping her shoulders when she didn't spot her.

With Basil's cage placed on a bench with his trunk protecting that spot from knocks, Oscar focused on grabbing enough food for the day. A sausage sandwich for breakfast, with a couple of slices of sausage posted into his ferret's cage, and then various snacks for the long train journey home.
It was as he filled a flask with juice, something that his dad insisted on sending him to school with every year for just that reason, that he leaned over the table to quickly flick through the paper.
Doom and gloom and upsetting things all around. As could be expected really after the last few days at Hogwarts.
Oscar preferred to focus on the dragon sighting in Russia. He wanted to know what was happening there, and hoped it did not end up with another dead dragon like in Japan. He tucked the paper into his bag with the food, thinking that he could see what else it had to say about the dragon on the train.
Well, if he ever managed to lug his trunk all of that way. At least it was easier than when he had been a little first year.

The owl post arrived and Martha took one glance at the front of the Daily Prophet before pushing her copy away. Normally she'd at least check out one of the other stories mentioned but today was nothing but bad news.
She finished up her paltry breakfast and pocketed a few things that would keep good for the train - just in case her or her friends got hungry later. Martha gave Oscar a warm smile before she stood and gathered her things.
There was time to hurry back to her dormitory and get her things before she would head to the train. She wondered if Sophia had gone ahead or not. It would be nice to walk together to the train but Martha wasn't too pressed about it.
She always wanted to see Amelia before she got on the train or maybe they'd bump into each other heading to compartments...?
With that thought, she left the Great Hall and resolved to ignore the noticeboard with the rankings.
