After changing into some dry clothes, Xavier headed back out onto the grounds. This time he told himself he wouldn't get wet again. As long as his umbrella continued to serve its purpose. What he was doing this time hopefully wouldn't require getting into the mud...hopefully.

He had already started working on his potions kit and now it was time to switch things up to herbology. He'd find the other ingredients he needed when it was less...wet. So up the path to Hagrid's hut he went.

Xavier hadn't had much interaction with Hagrid, but from what others had told him he was quite kind. He just hoped he was home and would help him out with what he needed. The quicker he could get out of this rain the better.

Making his way up to the large door of the hut he shifted his umbrella to his non-dominant hand and knocked three times firmly with his other. Now all he could do was wait. If Hagrid wasn't home he wasn't sure what he'd do until class started.

It appeared that Hagrid indeed wasn't home. The were no barks from Fang, and no sense of movement inside the hut. It was possible the heavy rain and overhead storm had drowned out sound of his knock, but there weren't even any lights on inside.

However, now that Xavier was there, he noticed a sheltered cart a bit off to the side of the hut. There was a sign, which had the occasional spelling errors, stating that he was away -- and that if any students wished to get started on their Herbology Kit, he'd left some pots out for them with fresh soil. One per student.

Someone had clearly helped out with the enchantment, because the pots inside were dry despite the wild weather and only a tarp-like material stretched across the top for a roof. Xavier could easily collect one of the pots, though would need to protect it on his way back towards the castle.

This thread may be reused by anyone wishing to grab a Gardening Pot for starting their Herbology Kit, without needing to speak with Hagrid or otherwise.

Moments went by with no response. It was quiet, only the sound of the steady rain buzzing around him. He waited a few more moments, tempted to knock again before he noticed something nearby. Curious he stepped away from the door and ventured over. Reading the sign as he noticed a cart full of pots. Free to take for those who needed them.

That was smart. Xavier assumed students came here all the time for pots and Hagrid wouldn't always be at home. This was the next best thing. Carefully grabbing a pot for himself he looked up at the sky and then back down at the pot.

It probably wouldn't be great to soak the thing before he even got to the greenhouse. So despite his hopes not to get wet again, he'd have to. Using the umbrella to shelter the pot instead of himself he stepped back into the rain. Feeling it already soaking the back of his robes. Grimacing he hurried off back towards the castle. Hoping he could get there before he got completely soaked. Hopefully all of this would be worth it!
