"There's no point, it won't make a difference" he shut down Joe's suggestion of writing home to his dad. Even if Joe explained what had happened, his parents would just say that Toby was old enough to know better and responsible for his own actions.
They'd probably even praise Joe for trying to defend him. But no, it wouldn't get him off the hook...
Toby stood, distancing himself from Joe's hand, the action of him tracing on his back would ordinarily be quite calming, but today he wasn't in the mood.
"Exams are ages away" he groaned, not understanding why Ryan was so concerned about them. It wasn't like their exams mattered that much, they were only in their first year. They had time to catch up.
If Ryan wanted to study though, Toby was obviously go along with it... Ryan worried about the smallest things, and studying might make him worry less.
"Fine, we can bring a textbook... but we have to get a LOT of snacks" it was the only way he would get through the next few hours.

Already had something planned? Well, she couldn't fault William for having a plan for the day. She nodded and smiled at him when he told her that.
"Aye, well, have a good morning," she said calmly before she resumed her own breakfast. She didn't even see him or Elizabeth Doren leave the table. Lindsey looked at Reena when she spoke and smiled at her when she made the promise to let her be there. She was excited to see this new plant. Maybe she could sketch it.
Suddenly, a young boy from Ravenclaw was there and she couldn't help but smile at the boy when he handed her his card and they embraced in a hug. It was the sweetest thing and she remembered her own siblings. She pushed that aside for now though.
When the owls arrive, she waited to see anything from her mother, but nothing arrived and she felt her heart sink a little. Then, a familiar owl did appear, but it was one belonging to her grandparents and she smiled when it landed before her and left a letter and a small book.
Hello Wee-one, Your grandfather told me about your match and he said you did a fine job. I wanted to send you this book, it is just a small journal. Your mother said you were committed to your studies for Herbology and becoming a healer. So, this is a blank notebook for your uses. Love, Granny
Lindsey smiled and hugged the journal close to her heart before she opened and out came a lovely pressed daisy. She would have to find something to keep it in place. It reminded her of the lovely hairclip back at Saint Mungo. Once the letter was stored away with the book, she looked at the Prophet, skimming over the contents before she folded it and put it aside.
She was finished with her meal and headed out from the Great Hall.

With the food gone and the meal cleaned up, Thorne carefully tucked away his newspaper for later, gave his friends a smile, and stood. He had things he wanted to get done today - he might as well get a start on that. "See you later!" He said brightly, before heading out of the Great Hall.
The screech of the owls caused Janet to jump, her hand on her heart as she looked up in awe as they flew through the windows of the Great Hall. It was such an amazing sight to behold and a smile spread upon her face, showing the beautiful white teeth that she took great care of. When the owls dropped the prophet, she had little care about it, not evening caring to touch it before she stood to search for her parents own owl.
Nothing? She was slightly upset by this and her eyebrows came together as she tried to think through the confusion. Well, maybe they just did not have anything to tell her at the moment? Yes, that had to be it! They just had nothing to report on. She put on a smile, though slightly sadder than before, and finished her breakfast in silence.
With her breakfast finished, she stood and headed towards the doors of the Great Hall, a bag over her shoulder and a skip in her step.

Jade nodded at Jaxen's words. He seemed sincere enough, but she'd been made a fool of enough times to remain wary. She eyed the gift in new light, not sure what exactly she was supposed to do with it but it was clear he'd put a lot of thought and care into it.
There was a lot going on that she couldn't process in time. Amy's words, which made Jade roll her eyes to hide her own embarrassment, then Jaxen's nervousness and stating he wasn't trying to ask her out or anything. Was she disappointed? She hadn't really thought of him in that way, but then again Jade didn't have much experience around that kind of stuff anyway.
'Um. Well, thanks?' Jade said to Jaxen. 'It's really nice. I can already think of the perfect spot on my shelf for it.'
Well, it would be perfect once she made the space for it -- probably had to shove off a bit of junk she'd been meaning to clean up anyway. That was a lie; she'd had no interest in clearing shelves or sorting her trunk or any of that stuff best reserved for end-of-term panic phase.
The whole thing was awkward now though, so she didn't know how to proceed. With a huff, she shot Amy a playful semi-serious glare.
'Thanks, Ames, you made it awkward and weird,' Jade said bluntly, as she was known to be, though her expression was friendly. 'Get outta here. I'll catch up to you.'
She rolled her eyes again, for good measure, then gathered her bag as she got up from her seat.
'I'm gonna go. But thanks, really. You didn't have to go to all the trouble for me.' Jade shrugged, carefully tucking the figurine away in her bag. 'And ignore her. I'm sure you've got plans anyway.'
She waved rather lamely, like an idiot, then hurried from the hall. The gift was nice, and Jaxen seemed genuinely lovely, but that whole situation was awful and she'd have rather done it in private. She intended to take very good care of her little lion, though. She'd even it a name.

Jax smiled to acknowledge Jade thanking him for the gift. She seemed to like it, despite her initial reaction and now he was just eager to leave before anyone else had a chance to make their conversation awkward. Perhaps presenting her with the gift during breakfast hadn't been the best plan, but it had seemed like a good idea when he woke up that morning.
It seemed as though Jade wasn't mad at Amy for her comments, which was good. He didn't want to cause an argument between the friends- but he did think that he'd overstayed his welcome. He had things to do before he ventured into the village, though he was excited to be meeting his grandmother later.
"It wasn't any trouble, really" he muttered, gaze following the figurine as she tucked it into her bag. "I'll er... See you around, I guess?" he waved, then quickly lifted his hand to cup the back of his neck. She'd waved, but he probably looked dumb standing there waving.
Gathering his things together, he rushed towards the nearest exit. The hall was mostly empty by this point and he was at risk of running behind.

When an owl landed on his goblet, Ezra simply blinked at it as he worked on chewing his bite of toast. Did he have another letter? He wondered who...
"Hi," he finally said once he had finished, smiling at the strangely fluffy creature. "Is that for me?"
He looked between his jam-sticky fingers and the letter, then quickly wiped his fingers clean so that he could accept the post.
"Thank you!" he said to the cute little owl. He was impressed that she had managed to deliver the letter and thought that she deserved a treat for a job well done, so he quickly scanned the platters to see what she might like. He settled on a piece of bacon that he then held out for her to snatch up as payment.
The owl thanked, he opened the parchment, wiggling about on his seat in his excitement for finding out who had written him such a long letter.
Ezra grinned at the letter as soon as his eyes flicked to the bottom to see who it was from. It was from home! She had written him back!
Not noticing as the hall slowly emptied around him, he settled in to read his happy surprise. He only got a few lines in though before he paused to double check what he had read.
Marcus? As in Uncle Marcus?
His eyes flicked back down to the bottom to check that he had correctly read who it was from. He had. That was.. odd? Unexpected? Something like that.
He only grew more confused when the letter mentioned his dad too.
Ezra was not sure he could actually remember the last time that she had talked about either of the men. Had she ever done so to him? He wondered what had changed that she so casually would. Was it as simple as having an old friend back? That made sense, he supposed, friends made everything better.
Whatever the reason, Ezra decided that he would let the others know. He was not sure if they had received their own letters (he hoped they had!), but he thought they would like to see what she had written anyway. He was sure that Jaxen at least would be happy that she was not alone, since it was him who had brought up her having friends in the first place.
That settled, Ezra finally focused on the tease that was summer plans. He really wanted to know what that was all about! It had to be big if it took so much planning.
He let himself drift in thoughts on what the surprise could be for a while, daydreaming about what might be planned, before he eventually managed to drag himself back to the present in a panic. Never mind the summer, he had plans for that morning!
Scared that he had missed his chance for Reena-time, and that she might have taken that as a sign that he no longer loved her, he scrambled for his bag. It should be easy enough to check if she was still in the lab.
"Pointus Reena Ashworth," he said once he finally had his wand pointed at his map of the castle. With the memory of his charms lecture, and all that Professor Rivera had taught them, fresh in his mind, Ezra's voice was confident as he cast the spell. If there was anyone that he was sure it would work on, then it had to be his sibling's, right?
His eyes focused on his map, Ezra hastily put his backpack on and, with his letter safely held in his hand behind the map, made his way out of the hall.
