Alice was wandering on the school grounds. Not sure where she wanted to go when she noticed that she was near the beast reserve. Maybe, she could try this. She had heard about the nifflers here, and probably it was coincident that she had some shinny gems inside her jacket pocket.
She ran near the nifflers sandpit. She had heard they are cute nifflers who react happily to shiny objects, and she was curious to see them.
When she arrived at the location, she couldn't see any nifflers around. Maybe, they were hiding. So take out one shiny gem from her pocket and show it around. Probably someone will come now.
It didn't take long for one to burrow out of the sand. It was a fluffy, pale-coloured Niffler who sniffed the air first -- and his face scrunched at the sight of cold snow, though the area around the sandpit (and the pit itself) was magically protected.
He turned to burrow back in, but froze. He spotted Alice, but his eyes zoned in on the gem -- almost as if he was in an awed trance. The Niffler shuffled closer, looking from the Gryffindor to the gem as if asking, with desperate eagerness, if she would be so kind as to gift it to him?

Soon, Alice noticed a niffler coming out of the sand. A fluffy pale-colored niffler sniffed the air, probably trying to smell the gem.
The cute little niffler comes closer to her, looking between her and the gem in her hand. Alice bended down to her knees and took her hand near the ground level, from where he could easily grab the gem from her hands.
The Niffler shyly reached for the gem, taking it from Alice's offered hands. Once it was firmly in his grip, he snatched it close and hugged it. The Niffler secured his treasure, then burrowed deep into the sand.
He was down there a while, to the point where Alice may wonder if he was coming back or had run off with her gem -- and had nothing to exchange it for. Then his fluffy head reappeared, and he held up a Silver Key for her to accept. With a pleased sort of sound, the Niffler scurried off to some bushes nearby that were relatively protected from the snowy weather.
Alice grinned as the niffler slyly came near her. She kept her hands straight with as little movement as she could because she didn't want to scare him. The niffler grabbed the key and ran inside again.
Alice stayed there for some time. She had heard that cute nifflers here get happy at the sight of gems and then bring gifts, but this one didn't bring any. Maybe only half part of the story is correct.
She had almost lost the hope of him returning and got up on her feet when she heard the voice. She noticed that he was back with something in his hand. Alice bent down again to his level to take it. She was amazed to see a silver key.
"Thank you," she said, but he was already far gone to listen. It was a sweet little experience, and she wanted more.
She searched within her jacket's pocket to find another gem. Still sitting on her knee, she held the gem, keeping her hand near the ground level. So, another could come and grab it. The next thing was to wait for anyone to come.
