Spiky cats. Why'd it have to be spiky cats? Elizabeth had bundled up to protect from the cold, wearing a scarf that she occasionally tucked her nose into to keep it warmer. She looked for one of the loose spiky cats, wand at the ready and every possible spell she might be able to use running through her mind. Now all she had to do was capture one of the things. For the moment, Elizabeth was glad that she didn't have a pet.
She briefly wondered who on earth was transfiguring spiky cats in the first place. Was it a class assignment? Had someone just thought it would be funny and no one had realized until it was too late? Probably a Gryffindor trying to make their pet seem more 'cool.' Elizabeth shook her head, regaining her focus as she searched for the spiky cats.
Though beautiful, the snowy forest area wasn't the easiest place for such a task. It was lightly snowing as well, which made searching for anything that much harder.
Thankfully, however, the snow did make for an excellent tracking method. There were various prints -- mostly footprints from her fellow students, a few hooves, an occasional small mammal and... there it was: cat paw prints. They trailed around in a circle, then headed for some nearby bushes further up the path.

Elizabeth found the paw prints, almost wondering what caused all of them. Quickly, she regained focus for her mission of finding the spiky cats, and she followed the cat paw prints. The things were probably hiding, though if Elizabeth had been a normal cat transfigured into a spiky cat, she would've preferred being a normal cat.
She followed them to the bushes, wand at the ready in case they came running at her. The idea was mildly terrifying, but Elizabeth was also under the assumption that they were cat-sized. She'd dealt with cats before, and they weren't all that scary. Not like dogs. Hopefully spiky cats would be the same way.
Despite a clear trail of paw prints to follow, which were indeed the size of any normal cat, the spiky creature itself was elusive enough to take time and concentration to find. She found it though, clung to a tree trunk within Elizabeth's reach.
It was brown, with porcupine-like quills on its back and some random spots. Its nose was a bit odd-shaped, and tail very bush yet stiff. Transfiguration gone wrong, by no doubt. So what now? Cats already had claws and a tense attitude, so it was an added challenge to factor in sharp quills and the possibility of it fleeing up the tree.

Elizabeth spotted the spiky cat. After heading towards it, it attempted to flee up the tree. Elizabeth was not in a tree-climbing mood that day, and immediately cast one of the spells she'd been thinking of "Arresto momentum" It slowed the cat down, which was good for Elizabeth. The next step was to capture it.
Elizabeth had no desire to be hit with any quills, and quickly put on her gardening gloves, though she wrinkled her nose. It would hopefully be enough protection--she didn't want to risk using the levitating charm to get it through the entire school. Any first year who thought they were funny by purchasing a prank item could break her concentration and she'd have to go fetch the cat all over again.
She grumbled to herself as she scooped the cat up, it being quite vocal that it was displeased with her conduct. Thankfully she was mostly protected by her scarf and cloak, but she was already planning to ask McGonagall how the things had even managed to escape.
The cat wasn't currently moving nor particularly fast, so the charm only did so much. Yet the casting of magic seemed to distract it for a moment, giving Liz an upper hand in her capture of it. The gloves took most of the cat's panic and struggling, but Liz's plan worked.
Now all she had to do was keep hold of it on her way back to the castle.

It was going to be a very long walk to the castle. Elizabeth would have much preferred capturing the cat in the Great Hall or even in the dungeons, but cats apparently liked the outdoors. She was now certainly going to have a serious talk about how they'd gotten loose. No doubt some prankster or someone who thought ruining ecosystems was funny.
She headed back to the castle, occasionally shifting to better hold the cats. She was, at the very least, pleased that she was not dealing with a spiky bear or something along those lines. That would've made things much more difficult.
