As the food disappeared from the table and was replaced with a variety of desserts, Elara scowled as if taking offense to the very presence of the bowl of jelly that now sat on the table in front of her. Of course, it was not the dessert itself that caused such a reaction- but what she knew she had to do once dinner was over.
Filch.
Groaning in disgust at the prospect of spending the evening with her least favourite member of staff, she reached forward and snatched a slice of chocolate cake from a nearby plate. Apparently she didn't care for the chocolate that would coat her fingers at the action- was she beyond caring by this point? The answer was clear.
"I have to go" she muttered to Arthur as she stood and threw her bag carelessly over her shoulder "have a good night, Arthur" she doubted she'd see her friend before the end of the night and really had to leave- she didn't want anyone to accuse her of trying to get out of this cruel and unusual punishment. I bet they were itching for an excuse to make her do something as equally depressing tomorrow night too.
She hurried from the hall, attempting to finish her cake before arriving at Filch's office.
Jamie was getting ready to leave when Joe arrived. He returned the wave with a smile and managed to grab a few pieces of dessert before he stood and headed off. He was yawning as he began to walk towards the entrance of the great hall. Even though he hadn't played, he was still tired. Maybe it was the stress from watching his sister play? Jamie didn't know or care, he just wanted to get to his room and go to sleep.

Matt scooped various ice cream flavours into a bowl, considering Jax's question. He hadn't seen Nyx all dinner, nor many others he knew, and after a long day of Quidditch was not when he wanted to have this sort of conversation at all. It was private stuff and now he was anxious that maybe he shouldn't be saying this stuff if Jax didn't already know or couldn't remember it.
'Why is this so important?' he asked. 'I mean, some of it I get but why now? We're not supposed to talk about it at all, especially not out in the open at Hogwarts. Don't you remember?' Matt's words were that of a tired teenage boy but never harsh or unsympathetic.
He moodily ate ice cream. He knew grief could get ugly sometimes and of course he'd want to know too. Matt just wished the timing was better or he had some forewarning. Should he write home first and check if it was okay? The last thing he wanted was to put both his and Jax's families in danger. They had enough to deal with as it was.
Trix watched as the dinner vanished in front of her eyes, taking its place was pudding. Normally, Trix would be all over pudding, however, she could feel her eyes getting very heavy. There been too much excitement for this little first year for one day. She was super tired. So Trix stood up and climbed over the bench.
"Night everyone, I'm heading to bed now." Trix said as she wiped some of the tiredness away from her as she headed out of the great hall and towards her Dorms right to bed she won't even bother staying in the common room otherwise she will fall asleep on the couch by the fire all curled up.
Rylan chuckled a little at Jade's words, realising that he would be very lucky indeed.
"I said think", he reiterated. "For all I know, the lass is plotting my untimely demise as we speak!", he added. He wasn't naive enough to think that would really be the end of it.
"Actually, judging by how she played in today's game, death by Bryce suddenly seems very likely", he shuddered, before the subject then changed to his being chosen at the Founders Frivolty.
"Yeah, got in one, just my luck, am I right?", he added with another chuckle. He'd probably be the butt of a few jokes for a while, but might as well own it!
Rylan gave a mock salute as he was told by Tiana to 'get to it!'. In all honesty, he didn't even know if he was good enough to make the team, but there was no harm in trying. Provided of course, that he was given permission and could then get his hands on a broom.
"Yes ma'am! I'll give it my best shot", he promised her. Either way, he would let her know the outcome of his letter home. No use leaving her hanging, after all!
"Beater or Chaser huh? Could give both a go, see if I fit into either.", he added thoughtfully.
At that point, dinner disappeared to be replaced by dessert. Now was as good a time as any to grab an apple, before looking at what else was for offer. Although he was tired, he was never one to skip dessert!
"Bags I the ice cream before Thatcher grabs the lot!", he called out playfully, while helping himself to a couple of scoops. The way Jacob had gone on with the mashed potato, he wasn't leaving it to chance!

Jax moved on from his spaghetti once the food in front of him disappeared and in its place came a variety of desserts. Reaching for a slice of strawberry cheesecake that was apparently calling his name, Jaxen sighed into the spoon as he took a bite- immediately glad that chose not to skip dessert.
"Is that even a question?" he paused with the spoon half-way to his mouth, on its way to deliver more cheesecake to his stomach, where it rightly belonged. Mathias was acting strange though, the reaction to his questions was even more important than cheesecake- or any other number of desserts. Why would he not want answers to these questions?
"But why aren't we supposed to talk about it?" he pressured his friend, growing irritated that even Mathias was attempting to dodge the questions and avoid answering completely- he expected it from adults, especially ones who'd obviously been sheltering him and his siblings for the majority of their lives, but he expected a little more cooperation from his friend.
Did it really matter where they had this conversation? Why was it so important that they not discuss it, what secrets were being kept? What was in danger of being revealed?
"Remember what?" he gave an over-exaggerated sigh, feeling an irritable sensation in his gut- it made him want to scream at the other boy to just give him a straight answer, like everyone else refused to do. But of course, he couldn't do that... He wouldn't do that, and even if allowed to commit such an outburst, he knew that Mathias wouldn't deserve it, not really.
"I don't think you understand..." Jaxen shoved some more cheesecake into his mouth in an effort to combat the rising feelings of stress and irritation. "This is the first I'm hearing about any of this, I have no clue what you're talking about..." what was he supposed to remember?
Clearly Mathias knew something that he didn't and an uncomfortable feeling of unease settled in his stomach at the thought that maybe there was something he should know but for whatever reason, he was unable to recall the memories.
Suddenly his cheesecake didn't seem so appealing, the fruity flavour now tasted bland and off-putting against his tongue. He pushed it away.

Elizabeth was thankful as the dinner foods disappeared and the desserts showed up. She was never really one for desserts, having not many opportunities for sweet treats as she was growing up, and besides that she now thought of most desserts as childish. Though disappointed that she did not get to do prefect duties that night, she was happy to head up to Slytherin and into her dorm, for the most part.
Brushing herself off, the memory of the quickly approaching holidays (and thus, the Founder's Ball) resurfaced in her head. She was, of course, going to stay at school during the holidays. She was thankful for that, as it naturally meant more time to study.
Amelia looked at the time and glanced up when she saw her brother come in. Giving him a quick wave, she grabbed a few pieces of dessert and then stood up from the table. To be honest, she was done eating and she didn't really want to hang out with everyone. Once she had her things, she headed for the common room, she needed a shower badly.
As she took the stairs, she realized how awful she still felt about everything. Tiana, Zachary, Grace, Tobias... They could have all been seriously hurt... All because of Amara and her gang of dirty, rotten, cheating Slytherins... If she didn't have the morals to play fair, she would do everything she could to get back. Tobias could have been killed after that stunt Amara did! How would she have felt if she had killed a first year? Likely, no remorse at all, not that Amelia thought about it.

"Good luck, Elara," Arthur said to his friend. He was a little nervous, since Filch was scary, but he was sure that it would just be something small. He ate a few cookies before heading up to the Hufflepuff common room, waving to everyone as he left.
He was glad the day was over, mostly because his backside was a bit uncomfortable from sitting in the stands all day, and he couldn't imagine going to classes after a Quidditch game. He decided he might talk to Casey later to see their opinions on the game, but for now it was getting rather late, so he considered just going to bed.
Dessert vanished from the tables, leaving everything vacant and clean. It was now curfew. The few remaining students began to leave the hall, as they were expected to be safely inside their house areas or headed there now.

"Nice jammies, Toby," Grace said sincerely as her friend appeared wearing them. She wished she was brave enough to do something like that. She'd be a lot more comfortable.
As dinner wrapped up, Grace tried to stop moping around. She did have a lot of time tomorrow where she could adventure and do pretty much whatever she liked. She considered going to the portrait of the raven that the Ravenclaw ghost lady had mentioned, but it was curfew and Grace didn't like breaking rules. Unless, of course, it was absolutely necessary, like that business with the polyjuice.
Besides that, she was tired from playing Quidditch all day. She thought she could probably get a good amount of sleep in, and she could talk with her housemates in the relative safety of the common room. They would all be feeling the same way.

Matt signed in disappointment as his remaining ice cream vanished. He had nothing to delay a response to Jax with now, so gave him his full attention. His mood was lessened by the fact he hadn't gotten to see Nyx, but supposed there would be time later. They were in the same house, after all. And it wasn't as if he couldn't survive a few hours without her, it just wasn't as fun to.
'Yeah, it's a question. Where is all this coming from all of a sudden?' Matt asked, annoyed but mostly perplexed. His curiosity won over, as usual. 'Wait. I mean, your mother did tell you too, right? Mine did. She explained stuff and told me to keep it a secret. Are you... are you saying no one told you?' It finally dawned on him that maybe not all families were as open and honest as his.
He supposed that changed things, but he wasn't about to risk a grounding of a lifetime - especially not before he got to have Nyx over for the holidays.
'Look, Jax, there was a lot of stuff going on when we were kids.' Matt sighed, sometime wishing he was oblivious to it all. 'Stuff people outside family aren't supposed to know. I am not having this conversation in the middle of the Great Hall, okay? I'm sorry, I just won't. At least wait until we're in our dorm or something. This is my family at sake too, you know.' He was loyal to them no matter what, and it was clear in his tone.

He could pull off a stylish death couldn't he? The images played in his head like a movie reel, it all very cinematic, melodramatic, black and white. He'd gasp for air, arms around his throat, and beg for help as his friends swarmed to save him. They'd fail though. That's why it would be a stylish death. Yeah, so with that all in mind, the pretty ginger was right. If anyone pull off that death with the most style, it was Luckett Langford. There was no question about it.
Her response about how much he earned was a response that of a typical girl. Amelia wanted the galleons to be spent on her. This is why Lucky liked not having a girlfriend. Why couldn't a dude keep it for himself without feeling guilty? What if he wanted to spend his hard earned wins on new slacks or a sleek pair of briefs? A guy like Langford had wants too, you know.
'Oh yeah? Is that what you think?' He scratched the back of his neck and laughed, trying to avoid eye contact. Crap, he looked at her. That smile. Now he remembered why he liked having a girlfriend. 'Consider it done, Twiggs. I'll treat you and your pals to drinks when we hit Hogsmeade. I'm spending the rest on me though, yeah?' He grinned.
Lucky always hated to see Amelia go, however certainly did not mind watching her leave. There was always a stitch of regret that stayed with him whenever she did, a creeping bitterness in the back of his mind about how they colossally messed up over the summer. Lucky wished they hadn't ended things -- but there was always the future, wasn't there? What if they belonged together? Sometimes it felt like it, especially when he'd see and talk to her. It was sucky.
'Girls, yeah? You can't live with them, can't live without them.' Langford looked at his remaining friends at the table and dropped his fork. 'I'll catch you lot later.' He stood from the bench and wiped his mouth before heading for the exit, alone with only his thoughts.
With dessert done with, there was no further reason for him to stick around. Not that they were allowed to, seeing as it was now curfew and therefore time to be herded back to the dorms like good little sheep.
He remembered King and Blackwood fate after Charms class, and couldn't help but feel a little bad for them. He'd been the one tasked with keeping the scores, and he was pretty sure he hadn't missed any.
Saying his goodbyes, Rylan nevertheless made a cheerful exit, tired after a long day of watching quidditch. Had he been playing, he suspected that he would be dead. On his feet about now (if not off his feet), and couldn't help but admire the stamina of the players.

Jax was staring into his bowl when suddenly the food disappeared from the table and he gave a disgruntled groan, discontent at having had his cheesecake disappear on him so suddenly, when he'd had every intention of finishing it.
Matt didn't seemed pleased with his questions, or even willing to answer them- even though Jaxen could tell that he knew more than he was letting on, he'd almost said as much before backpedalling in an apparent state of reluctance. "There's a lot my mum doesn't tell us" he muttered under his breath, an almost bitter edge in his tone- if their mother and grandparents had been open with them from the start then he wouldn't have to be digging up things that were perhaps better off buried. He wouldn't have to interrogate his friend.
"-She's protective... Doesn't want to upset us" he amended, because she had her reasons and whatever they were, she was not keeping information from them out of malice. That was obviously why she never spoke of their father or uncle, because the details were too upsetting for both herself and the children to hear about. "No one has told us anything" that was what was bothering him, and probably Reena too. How everyone refused to give them any information- at least, any information that was actually helpful to aide them in uncovering the truth. However, it seemed like Mathias was just as reluctant to talk, especially in such a public setting- it was frustrating, but Jax knew about the pressures of keeping family secrets- their secrets were probably very different though.
Shouldering his bag, he stood and made to leave "fine, then we can continue this in our dorm." He accepted that Mathias was probably in a difficult situation, but Jaxen was also eager for any information the other boy could give him and apparently... It was more than he'd originally thought.
What stuff was going on when they were kids? Just how much had their mother been keeping from them? Why was Mathias allowed to know about it, but he wasn't?
Jaxen was determined to get to the bottom of the mystery- if he failed, then he was sure Reena would uncover the truth, powered by her determination alone. Turning, he walked from the hall and headed for the sanctity of his dormitory.
