Herbology had ended and now Hanna had nothing to do, at least she thought she had nothing to do as she passed an empty classroom and quickly coming to a halt. The door creaked as Hanna opened it and peered inside. 'Was this the classroom that Hathmore had been talking about the other day?' The thought crossed her mind as she tried to find the cupboard the Professor had been speaking about?
A moment passed before a flash of silver caught her eye, her head snapped in the direction she had seen it before she stepped into the room. Hanna took one last look round the room before heading over to the small cupboard and searching her for the key in her bag. She had put it there and forgotten about it so it should still be there, right?.
A moment passed before her hand emerged holding the key, a sigh of relief falling from her lips as she clutched it her chest. Hanna quickly slipped off her robe and bag, placing them to the side before returning to the cupboard with just her wand and the key. Taking a calming breath in she placed the key in the lock and turned it, waiting for the click before stepping backwards and waiting to see what emerged.
The padlock clicked, then released itself from the door handles that otherwise kept them firmly shut. Something rattled inside, like various objects being shifted around by something bigger. As if that something realised it was free to leave, the cupboard burst open. There was some magic to it, as it sent Hanna backwards onto the floor.
The cursed object revealed to be a biting book. This discovery was made by the book sliding across the floor, then it turning around to chase Hanna. It opened and closed like a mouth, which tried to "bite" any part of her it could get close enough to. With any luck, she had the reflexes to get away in time.
The book was oddly fast and moved strange, almost as if it had a wheel underneath. It snarled at Hanna, ready to either attempt another bite or to flee from any grabbing hands. The book had no intention of being locked up again.
A screech fell from the Slytherin as she scrambled to get back and away from the strange item coming towards her. As she got to her feet she practically ran to get on top of something, quickly ending up on top of a nearby desk. She took a deep breath in to calm her nerves. Now that she was safely out of reach from the creature she took a moment to study it.
"A book that moves and wants to eat me? Okay... not weird at all" She whispered to herself after a few minutes before taking out her wand "Wingardium leviosa!". She didn't know if it would help or even work but it seemed to be the only spell she knew that could help and she really didn't want to try forcing the book back in with her own hands.
With Hanna's relatively safe higher ground atop a desk, she was able to observe details about the cursed book. Its cover gave no indication of what it was about - no title, no images... nothing. Yet it was dark, and rather old-looking. It had to have existed for at least a hundred years, if not more. It was leather-bound and sturdy-looking, despite its apparent age and unkempt care.
When it snapped its "mouth", she caught a fast glimpse of its pages. They were either old and blank, or just faded. It seemed a bit odd, but then again it could be magical. Hanna could make an educated guess that if the object was old and cursed then maybe the contents were only meant to be clear or read to those it deemed worthy?
The book's sole goal and awareness was to bite her. If followed her voice, snarling and searching for any vulnerable part of her it could attack. Luckily, it seemed Hanna was safe where he was - it couldn't levitate, nor could it jump more than a few inches.
When she cast the levitation charm, the book stilled for a moment - in shock of is newfound ability to fly. Yet whatever magic was imbued in the book quickly overcame her spell, dropping it onto the floor where it resumed its frenzied search.
That didn't exactly help with her task to get it back into a cupboard...
A groan left Hanna's lips as her spell failed, now realising magic was not going to help her against the silly book. She sat crossed leg on the desk as she tried to think of all the things she could do to get it back in the wardrobe, now regretting taking off her robes. If she had kept them on she could have used them to cover the book before carrying it back in, she might lose her robe but she could always get a new one, right?.
A moment passed as Hanna sat there, wondering if it'd be possible to read such a book? Maybe if she was able to wrestle it open, it'd let her read it. She was clueless about what to do next before an idea popped into her head. It's just a magical book, right?. How hard could the bite be anyway? With that thought in mind, she slipped off one of her shoes and threw it into the centre of the room. She watched and waited for the book to do something and if she lost the shoe? Well, it wasn't that big of a deal when she always kept a spare pair.
The shoe clattered loudly on the floor. The book immediately reacted, thinking it was Hanna, and attacked it. She'd have holes torn through it, for sure. Perhaps there was some magic in its bite because the condition of her shoe made it clear she did not want that to be her bare skin.
Distracted, the book continued biting the shoe in a frenzy and hadn't yet realised it was only a shoe.
A smile pulled at Hanna's lips as she watched the book attack her shoe, a plan formulating in her head. She stood from her seated position before carefully and quietly using the surrounding desks to make her way closer to the cupboard, she'd need to act quickly for this plan to work.
Once Hanna got as close as she could, she moved into a seated position before slipping off the other shoe. There was no need to keep it if the other one was so badly destroyed. The Slytherin gave herself a moment to breathe before putting her plan into action and dropping the shoe just in front of the desk. If the book came after it just like it'd done the first one she'd be able to step on it and use her weight to keep the book closed.

The sound of another shoe landing immediately drew the book's attention. It abandoned her other, now-ruined shoe, and hurried across the floor towards the other one. Once again, it's frenzy prevented it from realising right away that the shoe was not Hanna. She'd have to act fast though, as a second shoe was helping it catch onto that fact...
A smirk pulled at Hanna's cheeks as she realised her plan was working, the book had fallen for the distraction again. In doing so it had brought itself in reaching distance of the Slytherin.
Working quickly, she practically leapt from the desk onto the book, using her weight to hold it shut. As she stood on the book she quickly slid off her tie before crouching down, distributing her weight more. If Hanna was quick enough, she'd be able to slide the tie under the book before using it to bind the book shut long enough for her to get it back in the cupboard.
Hanna gave herself a second to think before moving from her feet to her knees. Now kneeling on the book, she shifted her weight to one side before quickly slipping the tie under and binding the book. Hanna hoped it couldn't free itself, she was running out of options.
Though her size and weight gave her an advantage over the struggling book, which had released its shoe-victim when landed on, it remained a challenging task to get her tie around it without stepping off or losing grip. Her fingers were nipped at least a few times, but she finally managed to have the whole cursed book bound by her Slytherin tie. Once it was secured, she could step off the book.
It was agitated by being bound, yet remained so. The tie made a worrying sound, as if being stretched tight. A few threads loosen at either side of the book - implying that whatever curse was on it would not allow the book to be bound for long.
Hanna had time to grab the book and carry it to the cupboard, but she'd notice a proximity reaction - the closer the book got to the cupboard, the more damage her tie took. If she threw the book into the cupboard, her tie would surely rip off onto the floor. It'd be worthless, though possibly repairable.
It was risky. To throw the book in, she'd not only have to have perfect aim and use the right amount of strength - but also move super fast to shut the door or else start the whole thing over again if the book freed itself. And she'd be without a tie to use the second time.
Hanna was able to revel in her victory for a small moment, her fingers hurt, but she pushed the pain away as she realised her situation. The closer she got to the cupboard the more damaged her tie became, this was going to be hard. Halting in her tracks, Hanna took a deep breath in before calling on Merlin for this to work.
With both hands she threw the book towards the cupboard, hoping that whatever luck she had at quidditch would still be around because she wanted to leave. Her fingers were starting to throb, half of her uniform was ruined, she just wanted to leave so she could get cleaned up.
Keeper reflexes certainly earned her favor, though it all happened rather fast. The book was returned to the cupboard, though somehow she'd retained her tie as it sat on the floor nearby almost torn in two. Hanna had hold the doors closed, which rattled as the book fought against it - making it a struggle for her to keep the cupboard shut shut.
When the doors remained shut long enough, despite the book's constant fight for freedom, the silver padlock magically returned to the cupboard handles. Hanna just needed to connect it, then use Hathmore's key to lock it in place. The book certainly wasn't making it easy, so she'd have to be fast.
Hannas breathing had sped up vastly but she couldn't slow down to give herself time to breath. As soon as there was an opening between the doors rattling she quickly connected the padlock and locked it with the key.
A moment passed as she waited to see if she'd done it before she slid to ground and breathed in deeply, trying to calm her beating heart. It was just a book but Merlin was it vicious and it bite was definitely painful.
When she'd connected the padlock and managed to turn the key in its designated place, there was a click as everything did what they were supposed to. The padlock secured the doors shut, and a magical force seemed to calm the entire event because the book inside immediately stopped rattling for its escape.
After her entire struggle, and being bitten a few times by a cursed book, suddenly the cupboard looked ordinary and not at all suspicious - if not for the large, silver padlock locking it shut. Hanna was able to retrieve the key, which she now had to return to Professor Hathmore.
Although the atmosphere had changed completely, Hanna still gave herself a few minutes to breath.
After her body had calmed down and she was sure the book wasn't getting back out, she retrieved the key from the lock. After doing so, she headed over to her bag and robe before slipping them on, placing the key safely in her pocket.
Hanna took one last look around the room before collecting her half-eaten shoes and tie, she knew she wouldn't be able to repair them but maybe the house elves could? With that in mind, she left the classroom in search of Professor Hathmore.
