'Got you,' Phillip exclaimed when he saw a large green clump of his query. They looked healthy and big enough to be used in potions. Taking the protective gloves out of his pocket, Phillip donned them on. He crouched down again and took a few leaves in hand, turning them around to look for any blemishes. It wasn't long before he picked the loveliest ones and packaged them safely for later use.
There were a lot of nettles around, so it would be a shame if Phillip didn't use the opportunity to get some more. He had learned from past experiences that being too greedy resulted in poor outcomes.
'Nothing ventured, nothing gained,' Phillip said to himself. He was emboldened by the first find and the fact that the forest was pretty quiet that morning. Ignoring the rest of the nettle clumps, Phillip started walking deeper into the forest for a chance of finding some new batches of the itchy plant.
Phillip made the right call, as he soon came across another patch of nettles only these weren't as far along as the others - less risk of being stung, so long as he was careful and kept his skin covered. They were still viable though, only just.
There was a bit of a path through some nettles, likely made by a creature - perhaps a deer? There were some hoof marks in the damp ground. If he stuck to that, he could easily pick two nettles - fulfilling his limits for the location this morning.
Almost squealing in happiness (though he'd never admit it) at the luck he seemingly had, Phillip immediately bent down to pick some nettle. Phillip had still been wearing the gloves from his first find, but he tugged on them to get the protective garment up tighter. The Slytherin hoped he had no exposed patches of skin between his gloves and shirt for the nettle to stung him through.
When Phillip picked the first one, he checked it over. It looked good enough to use, but that had to be done soon. It wouldn't do for it to spoil after he went through all this trouble.
As Phillip secured the second spring of nettle, he spied the flattened forest floor, broken twigs and some tracks. They looked like they came from a cervid, or a cervid-like magical creature. Mulling over his options, either leaving or following the path, Phillip decided to push his luck even further.
Taking a few tentative steps on the tracks, following the animal-made path in search for more nettles or other ingredients.
Unfortunately, Phillip had reached his limit of ingredients for that morning in the Forest Path. Following the tracks led him to a small clearing, where they rather suddenly vanished. There were some claw marks on nearby trees, but nothing fresh. A bush nearby was charred yet somehow intact.
He could explore further, though he wouldn't be likely to find more ingredients right now.
Phillip arrived to a small clearing where the cervid tracks he was following seemed to vanish. It was quite peculiar as it meant that the creature either vanished into thin air (which Phillip doubted) or it flew away. 'Maybe it was in the tree tops,' Phillip snorted to himself and looked up. He spied nothing peculiar and shook his head. The forest was making him stupid.
His amusement gave way to slight dread when Phillip noticed the claw marks on the tree trunks around the clearing, giving his tree climbing theory more weight. He felt the hair on his arms standing up. That together with what looked like a burning bush made the Slytherin uneasy.
'I'm just going to go,' Phillip muttered, reaching a decision to stop looking for potions ingredients and slowly made his way back to where he came from. It was easy following the track path. Little trickier was finding the path he made until he came upon the first batch of nettles, but in ten minutes or so, Phillip was on the well-established forest path.
Phillip has three nettles, but he tried recalling Professor Snape's words. His Head of House said five ingredients, however, does that mean five different ingredients or just five ingredients overall? Since he still had time, Phillip took a look at the parchment, deciding he might just stay outside and go find some more. It was always better to bring more (and have some remain for his own potions) than too few.
With that thought, Phillip pocketed the parchment and made his way to the next location.
