Coming from the headmaster's office she entered the library at a fast pace, yet slowed down once she was inside. She waved a greeting hand at the front desk in case Madam Pince was there although she did not take the time to check if the librarian really was there.
Reena was rather surprised she had not immediatly run into Elara King as she browsed the library. One could almost count on the Hufflepuff being here at any free moment of the day.
Ah. Weren't Quidditch Try-Outs for the badgers this afternoon? King might have tried out.
This thought made her wonder if she ought to have tried out for Slytherin team as well. But that was in the past now. She did not have a broom any way and maybe she was not all that suited for sports.
But enough on that. Reena had come here to find information on the founding artefacts the Talking Hat had mentioned to her after all. She wondered if not having heard of them meant she might have better luck in the restricted section yet was not ready or rather desperate enough yet to try her luck with the stern librarian.
Her fingers lingered on the backs of the books about history, specifically the history of Hogwarts or magic in Great Britain around the time of its founding. She pulled several books out of their shelves and started looking at indexes for easier acces- although she did not expect every book to have an index.
This could take a while but she was adamant to find at least a hint of what she was looking for before the feast tonight.
There was a lot of the usual stuff that most students already knew - who the Founders were, when Hogwarts was founded, and various bits and pieces that held not real historical value to Reena and the task she was presented with.
Yet, there were some gaps on the shelves as well. Either some books were already on loan or those who might have proven more detailed for her search had been removed. The more she scanned the various titles and pages, the less helpful it all was. It appeared that her answers were not so easy to find as she thought, even in Hogwarts's vast and inclusive library.

As she flicked through the pages it became more and more clear that the books she had picked offered little help on the subject. No mention of the founding artefacts, at least not on first glance.
The gaps on the shelves made her frown. Just her luck that exactly the books that could prove interesting had been checked out already. Perhaps she could ask Madam Pince about who these students were- but she still would not know for sure which books to go after...
Ugh. It was frustrating. Contrary to her own expectation she had hoped this would be a short visit with fast results. How come none of the books mentioned the artefacts? Perhaps it really was a practical joke.
Reena put the books back in their place and walked away from the history section. As she turned towards the front desk she hesitated and turned around again. She did not want to believe the hat had lied. It just sounded too wonderful.
She walked a few aisles back and came to a halt at the iron gate that seperated the restricted section from the rest of the library. It appeared more tempting than ever to gain access, she felt her hand tingling as she peeked through the bars and looked at the books on the shelves.
Knowing it would get her into trouble however she practised enough self restraint to turn away from the gate again and move towards the front desk. She would have to go about it the proper way: Ask Madam Pince if there were even any books on the subject and then get permission from a professor- Professor Archerose in this case.
"Madam Pince?", she asked as she drew closer.

Madam Pince was by the front desk, inspecting a book carefully for any sign of damage. She looked sharply at Reena when addressed, though relaxed when she saw it wasn't the one who'd recently returned a book or failed to do so.
'Yes?' she asked, though resuming her inspection while awaiting a reply. 'Is there something you're trying to find?'

Reena smiled when Madam Pince looked up. She thought it better to remain on the librarian's good side as she intended to continue to be a regular in the library for research and study.
She fumbled with her plait to gain some time while she thought about how she should phrase her question. Could she just ask about the Founding Artefacts directly and should she mention that it was the Talking Hat who had informed her about them or would that expose her to riducule by the woman in front of her?
Reena liked Madam Pince with her attitude about students and the care of books and somewhat valued the librarian's opinion of her so she opted out the direct most direct approach.
"Yes. I am trying to find books on the founders of Hogwarts. Especially on their magic and artefacts they have left behind in the castle. Not the vague kind like 'Hogwarts: A History' but more specific about how they worked together to form their legacy."
Maybe that was a tad too vague.
"I have not found anything useful in the history section so I wonder if any book of interest may be already checked out or in the Restricted Section. In case of the latter I would get Professor Archerose's permission, of course."

Madam Pince lost interest in her inspection as soon as she heard what Reena was searching for. She carefully set the book aside, then glanced towards the History section the Slytherin had previously perused.
'You won't find anything more specific than what's on the shelves,' she said. 'Founding artefacts? Those records are nearly historically obsolete. Wait here.' Pince gave Reena a stern look, then headed to the gates of the Restricted Section.
Pince opened it was if it wasn't locked, though Reena suspected she might not have had as much luck. The librarian was gone a while, indicating the search was a difficult one or the section was bigger than it seemed from the part they could see.
'I'm afraid the few books that might have assisted you were removed,' Pince said, as she returned. 'Professor Dumbledore requested their removal from circulation last year while interviewing for a History of Magic teacher.'

'Historically obsolete?' But the Talking Hat was not obsolete. The story must have really been misunderstood or new findings had been misinterpreted and now all clues that could have helped her were gone from the library. That or the Hat was playing her.
She waited for Madam Pince by the front desk as told albeit following the librarian with her eyes as she entered the Restricted Section. Reena was surprised that the iron gate opened just like that but figured that it would not do the same for her- at least not until she was in her sixth year.
"Professor Dumbledore took them?", she repeated.
Reena stared at the desk as she tried to place this information into the mystery the Hat had first unfolded for her in the new headmaster's academic library.
So the old headmaster had checked them all out before his sudden retirement and now the Hat that had been in his office for years was now sending her and presumably other students who had been unfortunate enough to strike up a conversation with it on a quest for answers Dumbledore had taken with him?
She had not put it above the old headmaster to go on this quest himself but the timing seemed rather suspicious to her. Professor Dumbledore was quite a peculiar old man, perhaps he just wanted to keep the students busy after he was gone, much like she suspected Godric Gryffindor had done as well.
Perhaps Professor Dumbledore had just given the books to Professor Archerose as he had hired him as the new History of Magic professor and she could still get her answers. She would have to ask him now in face of Dumbledore's absense. Maybe he could even give her a clue himself. Who knew?
"Bummer", she said with a shrug. "Thank you for checking, Ma'am. Have a nice afternoon."
With that she turned around to leave. Her next destination would be Professor Archerose. Maybe she could talk to him before the feast started.
