Unfortunately, the Snuffron was exactly where Grace had left it - apart from having jumped onto the table instead of staying at the floor. It glared at them, unsure who to fixate on first, and clutched the box tight in refusal to let it go.
It braced itself, ready to attack whoever made the first move.

Jacob followed Grace's directions, soon spotting the snuffron on the table of stuff. Well, everything was "stuff" in that room, but those were more specific.
Despite the serious moment, he snorted in amusement to Grace's words. 'I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure no one really fancies getting hit with jars,' he said. 'Also these blighters are pretty tough. I doubt you hurt it much - more like annoyed it.' Jacob spoke as if he clearly remembered his snuffron lesson from last year, when really it was more of an educated guess.
He aimed his wand carefully, demonstrating his rarely-seen serious side. Jacob may be amused by Grace and enjoying the chance to do something exciting, but he hadn't lost sight of the fact the snuffron could do serious damage and he had to protect the first year. Grace needed his help, especially since she didn't know the spell to defend herself.
'Keep your guard up,' he warned her. 'Tersus perito.' He cast the spell, putting all his will and focus into it. If he failed, one of them was going to end up with a would-be lethal bite. That would certainly put a damper on his afternoon.

His memory of the snuffron may be somewhat unreliable, but his precision of casting the spell was not. The snuffron shrieked as it was repelled backwards onto the floor, scattering jars and ropes around it. In the process, it released the box - which was flung among a pile of wooden buckets, vanishing from view.
Having properly repelled the snuffron, Jacob's spell then took hold of it. The creature shrieked as its skin began to crack - then it turned to dust, defeated once and for all. With the snuffron no longer a concern, Grace just had to locate the box in order to finally claim it as her reward.

Grace listened a little to Jacob's talking about snuffrons, and was somewhat disappointed to learn that she must have just annoyed it. And she thought she had a chance a defeating it with her wits and the one useful spell she knew. Well, she hadn't tried spraying it with water, but she had a feeling that would have also been useless.
She stood tall, her own wand at the ready in case there was danger. She listened to the spell, and as expected, it was not one she had even the most basic idea of. She stared at the snuffron, eyes wide as it fell backwards, Grace's eyes tried to keep track of where the box was while also watching the snuffron. It was kinda scary, how it cracked and became dust.
Grace ran over to where the box had gone, in the wooden buckets, and looked them over. She was about to put her hands right in and start digging through them, but hesitated. That had landed her in the Hospital Wing last time, and though she had become considerably more bold since her first few days at Hogwarts, Jacob was right there after all.
"Do you wanna help me check these out? I dunno if that guys had friends..." Grace sighed. This was harder then it had seemed at first.

Jacob sighed in disappointment, tucking his wand away. He'd hoped it would put up a bit more of a fight so his defeat of it would be more impressive, but apparently he was too good with the spell. Still, it was something he could gloat about in the common room later. It felt good to have helped Grace, knowing she couldn't have done it without him.
'Sure.' He shrugged, walking to the pile of wooden buckets.
Of course, Jacob was not cautious-minded at all, and didn't think to use magic or some form of clever tact to check for any lingering danger. Instead, he kicked at the buckets and made a lot of noise - figuring if there was anything in there, it'd either flee or show itself. It probably wasn't the sort of help Grace had in mind, but it was the one she got.

Fortunately, nothing sinister or otherwise hid among the buckets Jacob kicked. He managed to break a few of them, and there was some chittering nearby as if something else fled the noise, but so far it seemed Grace could go ahead and search through the buckets in hope of locating the box.

Jacob muttered under his breath as he accidentally put his foot through a bucket, getting it stuck. He hopped on the spot, then managed to kick it off. Well, that was almost embarrassing.
'Huh.' He frowned at the pile of wooden buckets. 'Well, guess you're safe now. Nothing interesting in there. I'd help you look for whatever it is you want to find, but I get the feeling you're up to something that's not really any of my business. You're welcome for the help - find me again anytime, if needed.'
He'd lost interest now nothing was exciting. He really did think Grace would rather continue without him and he wasn't so curious enough to pry, but ultimately he was just bored and wanted to go do something else with the remainder of his free time.
'Good luck - with whatever it is you're doing,' he added, giving Grace a smile and wave.
On the way to the door, Jacob paused to dig through some books in hope of finding that textbook he once stashed there. He forgot which Slytherin he stole it from. Not having any luck, he shrugged and headed out. Oh well, it wasn't as if it'd be of any use to them now.

Grace jumped, startled that Jacob had just kicked those buckets like that instead of doing some cool magic thing. She was about to scold him, but nothing came out of the boxes anyways. She still wondered what would have happened if another snuffron had been in there.
"Thanks," she said, searching through the buckets to find her box. Or, well, the box. It was hers enough that she would like it. "I'll see you later" she waved, her eyes still on the buckets, but she turned to see him searching through some books.
Grace's mind wandered to the key as she looked through the buckets. What if she needed Jacob's help again? She decided she'd wait a little if there were more snuffrons. That way, she could tell Gerald what she'd learned, and maybe the box would do something special when she touched it. Or had she touched it already? Her memory of it was a bit foggy, thanks to the focus-grabbing bite.
It took a while. Jacob's chaotic methods helped clear a bit of space to aide her search, but not enough to make it a simple task. She had to shift a lot of the pile to put a real dent in it to even reach the box, once she finally located it inside one.
The box was latched but easy to open. Inside was a jewelled key and no further instructions.

Grace looked at the key, then looked inside the rest of the box. She tried to recall if there had been anything in her vision following the key, or if she had seen any doors recently that it had belonged to. She didn't think she had, but she decided she'd wander around the school later to figure it out.
Next, she picked up the key, hoping that it would somehow also give her a vision. Was that possible? Or maybe it was a Portkey. Her mother used those sometimes, but Grace had never seen an actual key be a Portkey.
Unhelpfully, nothing happened. Apart from its jewelled shine and impressive design, there seemed to be nothing at all remarkable about the key itself. There were no further clues or hints given as to how or where it would serve its purpose.

"Ugh. Nothing?" Grace looked at the key like it would suddenly move, then decided to head out of the cluttered room. No use staying there. It didn't seem like there was anything left for her to do there, anyways. She tried to think of where she had seen locked things before and could come up with only one option.
The Spiral Tower had loads of locked doors. If her key had any use, she suspected it might be there, and so off she went. She was also thinking about going to the library, in case that didn't work out.
