Entering the great hall, there were so many unfamiliar faces staring expectantly. He'd been told all about the sorting of course and that it would determine which house he belonged to. Butterflies stirred in his stomach as he made his way to the front of the hall with the rest of the first years, who all looked to be at least somewhat nervous- to his relief.
Jaxen wasn't sure which house he belonged to, his father had been in Hufflepuff, his mother a slytherin... Would he go to either or to somewhere else... Only the sorting hat would be able to clear that question up for him. "Ashworth, Jaxen" a voice rang out, he'd forgotten that he'd be one of the first to be called forward with a name like Ashworth.
Making his way forward, he sat upon the stool and awaited the hat to be placed upon his head. Would anyone back home be disappointed by his result? Would his mother prefer if he went to Slytherin, like her? Taking a deep breath he waited for the hats answer.
Except, Jaxen was barely aware of Professor McGonagall lowering the hat towards his head - because it declared the result faster than it could be placed.
There was a tiny pause, as students in the hall hadn't expected such a fast result. Then the Ravenclaws broke into applause and beckoned him to join them at what was now his house table too. Their smiles warm and welcoming, though eyes alight with curiosity.

Jaxen's breath caught in his throat the moment the hat announced that he belonged in Ravenclaw, it hadn't even touched his head and yet, it knew exactly where to put him. It was almost a relief, to not have to question where he was supposed to go.
Once the surprise had settled, a smile broke out on his face and he quickly slipped off the stool and made his way towards the Ravenclaw table. Glad to be welcomed into the fold so readily.
