Now that she had a better idea of how the Hall of Mirrors worked, Grace was almost certain that she could finish the puzzle easier and figure out whatever she could do. Having checked the note at Breakfast, she began her descent into the Basement, looking for an unlit torch. She considered asking a House Elf for a snack, or maybe some Moonurk berries--she would need them if she wanted to do that request--but thought it best to focus on the task at hand.
"Aha!" she said, smiling when she came upon an unlit torch. She stepped across the floor, recalling that a specific spot had made the mirror appear when it was in the third corner. She made sure that she stood in a few different spots, looking at the unlit torch the whole time.
The space directly to the right of the unlit torched seemed to be the perfect spot. It was possible that the position of her shadow, cast by the other torches in the corridor, had something to do with it. Just like before, a door-sized mirror appeared on the wall.
She knew what to do this time. Once Grace touched the mirror, there was some resistance from the surface then her hand could sink through. When she continued, stepping into the large room, the mirror would fade from the outside wall so no one else could stumble upon it.
It looked the same as it had the last time she'd been there, despite the change of entrance location. And once again, she'd notice writing at her feet that gave a brief explanation of how to proceed.
Choose your steps carefully to make your way across the room. One wrong step, and it's over. Every safe square is connected to the next, either diagonally or directly in front of it. There is only one safe square per row. The choice is yours.
X = Danger - GAME OVER X = Caution. Is adjacent (not diagonal) to a safe path. X = Safe.
Note:Squares are not numbered in RP - it's just so mods know which one you've picked, so be sure to mention something like "she stepped on the 4th one".

Grace stepped forwards onto the 4th square, recalling that it would probably be the safest. After all, the safe squares were connected either diagonally or in front, so stepping forwards would either lead to a grey square or to a white one. She was proud of herself for figuring it out. She wished she could just dash across the tiled floor instead of doing the puzzle, though.
A shimmer rippled over the squares before Grace could make a decision, suggesting that something was still different about it this time.
When she stepped onto the cautionary square, it wasn't the only one that changed colour this time. The safe one beside her, then a other cautionary beside that, also changed to give her a stronger clue as to where she was and what moves could be next. Was it the magical game or the Founders that somehow took pity on her for having not succeeded yet?

Grace's eyes flashed to the other changing squares, wondering why they had changed. She had expected to go back to the beginning, which wasn't that far back now. Noticing that the cautionary squares were changing, she thought it best to step on the 3rd square, trying to remember what cautionary meant. Adjacent, but not diagonal, she thought. So it should be in front of the one beside her. Grace blinked, then made up her mind to step on the 3rd square this time.

It worked! Grace pumped her fist into the air, looking over as the other squares, as well as the one underneath her feet, changed. She decided to choose the next square how she had chosen the previous one, and so she stepped diagonally onto the fourth square. Grace thought the founders should have done this from the start. It was much easier, but then, where was the fun in that? She pondered the purposes for the Hall of Mirrors.

Grace felt pretty good about this now. She looked at the colors, feeling almost like second nature to her, and stepped onto the 3rd square. She wondered if Gerald had already figured this out, if he was way ahead of her in terms of the puzzle. She thought they would talk later, and then they could figure everything out. She imaged a hidden treasure waiting for her at the end of the puzzle, if only she could make it across.

Nearly halfway across now, Grace pondered as she looked at the color-changing squares. She was beginning to feel a little nervous, as she had when she had first arrived at Hogwarts. What if the reason this puzzle was so difficult was because there was something dangerous once she got across? The idea of treasure being the reward for completion was too great, so Grace stepped forwards onto the 2nd square.

Now that she was almost across, Grace felt a little less worried. She watched once more as the squares changed color, thinking about the Herbology lesson from that morning. It was nice to work with friends on things like that. Noting that her square remained an x and was white, she figured that the proper move was to take one step directly forward onto the 2nd square.

Grace wondered what could be across the hall. She should have asked Gerald at Breakfast, but she had been a little busy thinking about her new broom and when they would finally get to play Quidditch. She hoped she wouldn't be awful at that, she thought as she stepped onto the 3rd square.
