"You can check your house fireplace."
Lindsey thought about some of the conversation with the Professor of History of Magic and walked slowly towards the dungeons of the castle. Some students were not fond of this place, but being a Slytherin, she didn't mind it. And, it reminder her of the castles of Scotland and their many dark passages and secrets.
"They say it's unique to each student."
Unique? How could a message be unique to each student, when it was to guide the student to the same place as the others? Well, she would have to deal with that later because now she was standing before the door of her Head of House, Professor Snape. Lifting her hand, she knocked on the door and stepped back to give the Professor his space if he answered.
The Third year certainly wasn't use to having a free day with no classes. Oh the trouble he could get in, no. That wasn't Jasper's style. He spent a fair amount of time in his dormitory room pondering what he could do. Finally he went down for breakfast, nearly missing it entirely. This didn't solve his problem, what would he do today?
He ran back to his room and collected the usual things. His sketchbook, a few drawing pencils and a book he began to read the day before. leaving the room, he found himself beginning to wander the castle without a destination. He found himself wandering down to the dungeons, now why would he end up here?
He was surprized to find someone else down here, considering it was such a dark place. Once he focused, he soon realised who it was. "Oh hey Lindsey, I guess we both had the same idea," He fibbed as he didn't actually know why she was down here.
Professor Snape suddenly opened the door, and stared down at Lindsey - an eyebrow raised in questioning. 'Yes, Miss Bryce?' he asked.
He then sent a disapproving look to Jasper, who didn't appear to have knocked or had as strong a purpose (or intent?) in being there. 'Don't you have somewhere else to be, Mr Flynn?' Snape asked in a much less cordial and patient tone.
If the boy was there for the same reason as Lindsey then he'd better speak up or else Snape would assume he was just loitering in the corridor. An odd place to be for a teenager with ample free time and enjoyable weather. Snape was notably suspicious.

Lindsey looked over at Jasper as he arrived and smiled at him. "I guess we did." She said, before she looked up as the door opened. Professor Snape had always quickly opened door and she smiled at him as he questioned her.
"Hello Professor... I was wantin' to earn my potion's kit today, if ye would allow me." She said, knowing that it was not an easy task, but she felt she could do it. The young Slytherin had already earned her herbology kit and she was knew she needed potions for her future goal of becoming a healer.
She looked over at Jasper when he directed his attention to him and waited to see if he would join her in getting the kit.
Jasper was about to make small talk with Lindsey in an attempt to find out why she was really here. However the door swung open and in the doorway stood professor snape. It was then clear the slytherin girl was here to see him.
As snape shot him a look, Jasper waited to see what Lindsey's response would be. Ah ha! She was after her own potions kit. He would have to think quickly and carefully with what he said next. Say the wrong thing and he could end up in trouble.
"Well actually profressor," he began. This would have to be convincing, "I'm here for the same reason. I didn't expect for her to be here as well." It was a Lie, but also a clever reponse. He wouldn't be a proper Ravenclaw if he wasn't clever, eh?
Professor Snape narrowed his eyes at Jasper, clearly not convinced, yet didn't comment on the boy's lack of honesty. He was there now, and if he thought a Potions Kit could be used as a simple excuse to explain his loitering in the dungeons then Snape would hold him to it.
'Why should either of you be granted such permission?' Snape asked, turning to enter his office. He headed to his desk and sat down, giving the pair a fixed look that implied they should approach his desk to resume this conversation.
He wasn't about to let them proceed without knowing their intentions, though was most interested in what other excuse or lie Jasper was about to deliver to keep up the act and avoid trouble. Snape remained convinced that Jasper's request wasn't genuine, though played along until either the boy backed down and admitted the truth or endured the difficult task of getting his Potions Kit.

Lindsey bit at her lip slightly as she saw the eyes of the professor narrow towards Jasper. Then, it came to him and Lindsey pulled herself up straight and smiled. "I want to be a Healer, Professor and if I am goin' to become a healer, I not only need to ken(know) how to make potions, but need experience in makin' 'em... A kit would allow me a chance to learn and practice many potions." She said, proud of herself for her explanation, though it would depend on the professor if it would be satisfying to him.
Lindsey looked over at Jasper and hoped he had a good explanation and reason for wanting the kit. It would be nice to have someone her own age to go to the lab with.
Professor Snape wasn't the easiest man to read unless he was in a foul mood, but it was easy to see that he was both impressed with Lindsey's answer and approved her choice of career. He made mental note of it as well, though had previously suspected that was something she'd strive towards. The fact Potions was such an important class and subject to her certainly warranted his attention.
'Very well, Miss Bryce.' Snape nodded, then levitated a scroll to be placed at the edge of his desk for her to retrieve. It listed ingrdients and their locations around Hogwarts. 'If you wish to use the student laboratory during your free time, it would be impractical for me to disagree. Your ambition to become a Healer is one that ought to be nurtured.'
He shot Jasper a less than approving look, still waiting for the boy to give his own answer to the question of why he should be granted permission to use the laboratory. The Ravenclaw seemed nervous, so Snape allowed him a moment to gather thoughts while he focused on Lindsey.
'Bring me five ingredients you've collected yourself,' he told her. 'Consider it a test. Once you have completed it, only then may I accommodate your request.'

Lindsey watched as the Professor seemed to consider her request. It was very hard to read the professor, but she felt like she had an okay grasp of him by now, after three years of him being her Head of House and someone she did admire when it came to potions. As he spoke to her, she smiled brightly at the man as she looked him. "Thank ye professor." She said, before he continued on about what she needed to do.
Five ingredients? She felt that could be done fairly easily. She had a few already gotten from her herbology kit as well as from her other classes. This could be fairly easy and she would probably get some more ingredients tonight. "I will get them for ye, Professor." She said, before looking at Jasper and wanted to wait for him to continue, but felt the Professor would not take that too kindly.
"Could we work together professor? To each find five ingredients? Jasper and I had been talking about working together on potions to study together." Had they actual talked about it? No, but Lindsey had already begun to enjoy the boy's company and the idea of having someone else to work with sounded great. Maybe Avery would want to get her potion kit?
Tom had just left the library and was trying to clear his mind after his interaction with Elara. He hated how awkward he was in social situations. Whether he was in the Muggle world or the Wizarding world, Tom found himself unable to communicate easily with others. Why was that so? He'd spent a lot of time thinking about it and came up with few satisfying answers beyond that's just the way you are. In a way he'd come to accept himself while another part of him strove to be like the carefree, happy, social kids he saw all around him.
It's not like he didn't enjoy his solitude, and thankfully the Wizarding world provided many career options and paths for those who didn't do well in large groups of people. Some of the most famous witches and wizards in history were those who locked themselves in stuffy dungeons and got to their work uninterrupted by others. On the one hand it sounded like a lonely life, but on the other it sounded appealing to Tom. Even when it didn't sound appealing to him it sounded like the most likely outcome for his life.
All these thoughts and more swirled in his brain as he made the trek from the library down to the dungeons in search of the Head of his House, Professor Snape. Lots of students were terrified of the dungeons and even more terrified of Snape, but not Tom. The man was the Head of his House so he felt a kind of connection between himself and the professor. Plus, Snape was obviously a genius in the art of potion making and Tom was eager to develop similar skills.
He noticed he wasn’t the only one who thought to approach the potions master today... well, at least he knew he’d get to talk to Snape. He got in line behind the other students and waited for the professor to address him.
Professor Snape eyed Lindsey, as if to determine if she was trying to cheat her way out of the task or have one do more work than the other. 'If you wish to accompany him, should I allow him to partake in this task as well, then that's your prerogative, Miss Bryce,' was the only answer he gave them, though his glare implied he'd be double-checking their work was their own. Five ingredients they've each collected on their own, no less.
'Yes, Mr Stansbury?' Snape sounded bored as he finally glanced at the other Slytherin presence, though until then it was impossible to know if he'd noticed Tom's arrival.
The bored tone to Snape's voice didn't bother Tom. A lot of students were put off by the professor's demeanor, but in a way Tom considered himself and Snape to be kindred spirits. Maybe because they were both Slytherin or maybe because they both seemed to do better in solitude than in large groups. Either way, Tom wasn't put off where other students might have felt themselves begin to cower when Snape addressed them in such a way.
"I've been thinking, Professor," Tom said quietly but firmly, "that it's past due time for me to earn my Potions kit. It's something I've been considering for a while now and I can't think of any reason why I shouldn't get started right away." In most situations Tom would have noticed his gaze trailing downwards to the floor, but this time he made sure to look Snape directly in the eye. It was a sign of respect.
"I see I'm not the only one who's had this brilliant idea, either," he said with a wave towards Lindsey and Jasper.
The "brilliance" of any idea which intruded upon his peace was questionable.
However, Professor Snape was satisfied with Tom's answer. He supposed it was a good thing that many of his Slytherins sought to further their education in the subjects that mattered.
'Very well, Mr Stansbury.' Snape nodded, levitating another scroll onto the edge of his desk for him to retrieve. It listed ingredients and their locations around Hogwarts. 'If you wish to use the student laboratory during your free time, it would be impractical for me to disagree.' He said it in the same tone as he had recited to Lindsey.
Snape decided to ignore Jasper for now, until the boy decided to speak or otherwise retreat and try again another time. Whichever it was, Snape didn't care. He focused on his Slytherins instead, as they were soon to leave the office and thus restore some of his peace.
'Bring me five ingredients you've collected yourself,' he told Tom. 'Once you have done so, only then shall I consider your request.'

Lindsey turned as she heard someone else come into the area and saw a older boy that she knew from her house. Tom, she though his name was as she smiled at him and blushed slightly. Luckily the dungeon was dim, so maybe he wouldn't notice after she turned away. He was a little cute, but she had her studies to focus on and her goal was to become a healer. She really didn't need a boy to distract her. As Professor Snape spoke to her, she smiled at him brightly and nodded. "Tapadh leat... Oh, sorry... Thank you Professor Snape." She turned to Jasper and smiled.
"I think I already have some ingredients in me dorm... Meet me at lunch to see what we already have and then we can figure out where to get a few more?" She asked Jasper before she looked at the other SLytherin as he spoke about them having the same idea. She smiled and tried to look away before she could manage another blush. Taking a breathe, she looked back at Jasper. "See ye at Lunch, aye?" She said, dashing towards her common room.

Tom was relieved that Snape had accepted his request. Truth be told, Potions wasn't Tom's favorite class, but it also was definitely far from his least favorite. Wand work made Tom nervous, and he wasn't as proficient at that kind of magic- he found that he excelled in areas that were more tactile. Tom had cousins in the Muggle world and knew that Chemistry was a common course for non-magical students. Tom figured that wasn't too different than Potions here at Hogwarts.
Tom gave a slight nod of his head and whispered "Thank you, Professor" to Snape as he accepted the scroll that had been offered to him. He nodded towards his fellow Slytherin and noticed that she was blushing as she looked at him- what was that about? Did he have something on his robe or was his hair messed up or something? He noticed that her eyes darted away as his went to meet hers. Huh. Girls were so weird sometimes. Tom had no patience to try and understand them.
His scroll firmly in hand, he nodded again to his Head of House and made to exit the Professor's office.
