Mum and Dad,

Today I actually did it, I made the quidditch team! Your (favourite) son is the new Gryffindor seeker. Amy did great too, she's a beater now! I wish you'd both been there to see us, Gryffindor are going to be unstoppable now that they've got us on the team!

But... We can't play an official match unless we have our own brooms. I'm writing to ask if you'd consider buying us brooms of our own so that we can participate in the first match of the season. It's Gryffindor verses Slytherin and I'm really looking forward to seeing the looks on those snakes faces when we beat them! They don't have to be fancy brooms, they can be dead cheap! But without them we won't be able to play.

I'm excited to hear back from you and hope it won't take you too long to reply (no pressure but this decision will probably make or break my entire quidditch career).

What exciting news! Your father and I are tremendously proud of you both. Your father's been boasting it to anyone who'll listen - I wouldn't be surprised if the Minister of Magic himself knows about it by now. He's even made arrangements with work to make sure he can watch your first match against Slytherin. I'll be there too, of course. We can't wait!

While I didn't realise your "career" was at sake already, I can assure you that your father and I are working on finding a solution to get both you and your sister a broomstick. Don't you worry about that for now - we'll take care of it. It won't be easy, but your father says the best option would be one of those Magnora brooms. A bit fancy, yes, but we're discussing it. Amelia will keep you updated when we've sorted some things out.

Now - I want to hear all about your friends and classes. Are you settling in okay? Don't forget to take your map with you wherever you go, young man. You don't want to end up late or cornered by Peeves by taking a wrong turn on the moving staircase. And don't forget to change your underwear often - the laundry basket isn't just for show, you know.
