The Doren family are halfbloods who live in a rather large estate, held to the highest standards. The children live in a very sheltered, pristine, and boring environment. Their days spent at home are fully scheduled in advance -- filling the hours with tutoring, etiquette, and social meals. It's restrictive and suffocating, yet the only life they've known until attending Hogwarts.
The entire family are well-spoken and polite. Though the adults get angry or flustered if things aren't perfect and up to their standards, the children are less inclined to have a fear of failure or anything less than pristine. The children crave something of their own and to experience life rather than simply wrap it in a neat bow. They get along well as siblings but, as they rarely get to spend any time together, they're still establishing that bond.
Despite the family's wealth, the children are not spoiled. Every gift or treat must be earned by correctly answering intellectual questions and demonstrating a continued excellence in their tutor-approved skills. Nothing is freely given, not even on special occasions. Though often obedient and quiet at home, in wariness of being made to feel guilty for "ruining" things, the children are pampered by house-elves and developed a sense of superiority. They like things to be on time, done the proper way, and yet yearn for something fun or adventurous.
The children are the first to go to Hogwarts instead of Beauxbatons Academy, as the family relocated to the UK before the parents married. They even spent a long time bringing the entire ancestral estate with them, brick for brick -- convinced that nothing else would ever be good enough otherwise.
However, their parents sheltered them so carefully that the children rarely left the house or even got to run on the lawn. They have little experience with or understanding of children games and toys, playful gestures (such as high fives), or small talk. There are many items, muggle or magical, that they have no idea how to use or what they're for. Transportation in general is very new to them. The older the child is, the better they cope with these things, as Hogwarts has greatly helped expand their horizons, though they're still trying to catch up to their peers. They may be able to speak three languages, but won't know how to use bubblegum.
Their estate is huge, making it quite easy for the parents to avoid their children. Each child has a lavish, impersonal bedroom far away from the main bedroom and family guest rooms. It's an isolating, boring life; each child is secretly relieved that they're forbidden to come home for the Christmas holidays. Though neither are they allowed to visit or stay with friends.
Doren kids are very wary of dogs -- often chased by one back to the house if they went outside without permission or weren't back exactly when told. Just hearing barks can make them nervous, and as if they need to get away from it. Befriending Fang may be difficult.
Pets and Quidditch are strictly forbidden. Trips to Hogsmeade (3rd years and above) must be requested, but may take some convincing. Going against the family wishes may be grounds for disinheritance.
