Though they had arrived there together, Grace thought her best option was to go smack around some of those duelling dummies. She hadn't been using curses so far, and she did want to try them out. That kind of magic was kind of fascinating, and since she wouldn't be hurting any of her friends if it was just the dummy, it was relatively safer.
Well, no better way to start this than with something she already knew: a spell! Grace flicked her wand at the dummy, casting a spell at it. She was curious to see how the dummies worked, if they were magical or if they would just flop over like a loaf of bread.

Well that had worked. Grace cheered for herself, then, hoping to make quicker work of the dummy, sent another spell at it. She wanted to see if she could do more damage, and wondering how the dummy's spells worked. If it cast a better defensive spell would it still hurt as much as one cast by one of her friends during their friendly duels? She just hoped she wouldn't lose a duel to something that wasn't technically alive. Then she decided not to focus on the ethical being of a duelling dummy.

Oof, so they did fight back! Grace was glad to defeat the first spell, but the second one knocked her back a little. Instinctively, she made to offer it congratulations by flashing it a big smile before realizing that this was, again, a dummy and not one of her friends that she had duelled before. Oh well. "Sorry 'bout that." she apologized, and then sent a spell at the dummy.
Grace cast an offensive spell (score: 3), but the dummy's defensive spell (score: 6) overpowers it. The dummy wins the round.

Success was hers! Grace cheered for herself and gave the dummy a gentle pat as a runner-up prize. Considering there was no prize for winning, she thought it fair enough. This was fun, but she wasn't sure if she wanted to keep going with it. It was good to practice, but it wasn't the same as duelling with a human, no offense to the dummy. Still, there wasn't much else to do, so she sent another spell at the dummy.

Grace cast a spell, hoping that it would be the best of the best. She knew she was only a first year, and she had a long way to go, but she couldn't help but hope. It was part of who she was, especially if nobody was around. "Sorry about this, dummy." she apologized as she cast the spell. Hopefully they didn't feel too much.

Grace felt pretty confident in her dummy dueling abilities. She was a little shaky on this one, though. The dummy's spell was so strong! She 'oofed' a little and then cast another spell. This wouldn't be so difficult. Yeah. It was just a fake person. She could take it. Hopefully no one saw her talking to the dummy.
Grace cast an offensive spell (score: 5), which overpowers the dummy's defensive spell (score: 4). Grace wins the round.

"Ack!" Grace cried out as the dummy's spell pushed her onto her back. "Ouch..." she muttered. Well, this was embarrassing. Nothing more she could do, though, so she patted the dummy on the back. "Good match." she said, a little bit sarcastically. It was a dummy, after all. She wondered a little bit about the mechanics of them and then ended up deciding to go see if anyone else had arrived.
