All of this was so new to Arthur. He had only learned he was a wizard what seemed like a few months before he was off to Hogwarts to be sorted. Now he had no idea what these houses were. He hoped he would be around friends, no matter what. He heard some students clamoring to be in Hufflepuff, some in Gryffindor. He'd heard someone say that all Slytherins were bullies, then another say that they were the only good house. Ravenclaw seemed like an option, as did all of the others. He just didn't want to hurt anybody's feelings by being sorted into the wrong house.
As Arthur heard his name called up, he stepped quietly, aware that eyes were on him. He gave them all a quiet smile. Would these people be his friends? His mentors? Surely there was something he was supposed to figure out by being out in front of the whole school.
Before Arthur could even register it being placed on his head, the hat declared his house to the entire hall.
Professor McGonagall, who hadn't even had time to release the hat, lifted it again. The Hufflepuffs were a lively bunch, cheering and welcoming their newest member without hesitation. Several beckoned Arthur to join them, shifting over to make sure he had plenty of room.

Hufflepuff. Hufflepuff? Oh! The yellow one, they were cheering for him. That made sense. He cheerfully ran over, almost tripping on the last stair and sitting down next to the older students. This was so much fun!
