Ryan was wrong.
He must have taken the wrong staircase or turned a corner too early. They weren't at the library at all. In fact, he had no idea where they were or how to get back. The corridor was rather vacant, which sent a shiver up his spine. Ryan had only been at Hogwarts a short time, but had already gotten used to seeing students bustling around the corridors or outside.
'Er...' He blushed, staring at his feet. At least he hadn't been in such a rush that Ruby couldn't keep up, but he felt bad for having taking the lead now. 'Sorry. I really thought we were going to right away. None of this looks familiar at all.' He gasped anxiously, turning on the spot in search of some indication of where they were. It was impossible. He doubted Ruby would know either, but at least it wasn't boring - right?
'Windows!' Ryan rushed to them, peering out in hope it could help orient them. Except, he didn't really know what all of Hogwarts even looked like yet. There were a lot more towers than he'd realised, though curiosity rose in hoping to find out where they all led one day. So long as it was allowed, and safe, of course. He doubted they all were.
'Well...' He considered, taking in as much of the view as he could. 'I think we're definitely lower than the 6th floor. Maybe higher than the 4th. I've never really been in anything as big as Hogwarts before though. Maybe we're kinda close? Ugh. I'm so, so sorry Ruby.' Ryan buried his face in his hands in shame and apology.
What if she was mad about being lost and didn't want to be his friend anymore? What if she just left him there to fend for himself? Oh, that would be terrifying!

Astra had decided to explore the castle a bit, being it was her first day. Perhaps even some friend-making would work out as well. As the young Hufflepuff walked along the corridors, she stopped once she heard a boy and a girl talking. Sounds like they need help. Astra thought, and she decided to head into the Vacant Corridor.
Once she had reached it, Astra found a boy and a girl. One with Hufflepuff robes, the other with Ravenclaw. "You guys seem to be lost." She said, her voice kind. Astra, with her brains and all, would probably be able to think of a way out without a map, but sometimes...she'd probably have to.
Ryan struggled to pull himself together, more ashamed when he realised there was even a map to look at. Where was his? He didn't remember getting one...
But Ruby was nice and didn't get mad at him. He didn't think the library was on the first floor, but he'd already gotten them lost so he wasn't in a place to debate that. He turned when another girl joined them, someone who Ruby probably knew already - since they shared a dorm, right? She introduced herself, so maybe the girls hadn't had the chance to talk yet.
'Hi,' he added, not wanting to seem unfriendly or as if he was as stressed as he felt. 'I'm Ryan.' He winced. Ruby already said his name, why'd he repeat it? His nerves were still rather overpowering, but the idea of having three people to work out how to get un-lost was hopeful. At least they knew the corridor wasn't completely unused by other students.
Astra was eager to help Ruby and Ryan. "Of course I'll help. My name's Astra." The girl said. Astra had also noticed that Ryan seemed a bit shy and nervous. Astra then glanced at the two 1st Years. "Okay, good, you have a map." She said, noticing Ruby's map. "We need to find the Grand Staircase. After all, I think you'd get here if you went the wrong way on it. Once we find it, we'll probably reach the Library."
Astra's smart thinking was useful in situations like these, and she hoped that her strategies would be successful here.
As the three first years were working out what to do, there was a cackling from above. 'Oh no, three ickle firsties all alone in an empty corridor?' came a malicious voice, as a ghost descended through the ceiling - it clearly wasn't like any other ghosts they'd have seen, as he had colour and wore a jester's hat. They'd heard rumours and warnings though, able to assume this must be Peeves the Poltergeist.
'Whatever is Peevesie to do?' He cackled again, clearly already having a few ideas on how to make their situation even worst.
He swooped down to Ruby and blew a raspberry at her hair, then zoomed over to do the same to Ryan - before vanishing and reappearing behind Astra to lift her hair up dramatically. Cackling again, he hovered above them, legs crossed in mid-air to consider another bout of fun. It was noisy, though someone may have heard from nearby no Professor or other ghost came to their rescue.

Ryan was glad the girls seemed to have a better idea of what to do than he did. He'd helped with the window stuff, right? Still, Ruby had a map and Astra sounded smart. But of course, just as things were looking better and Ryan could breathe easily again, he discovered there were other bad things in Hogwarts he hadn't thought of before.
'Oh no,' he muttered, eyes wide and fearful as he saw what could only be Peeves. He'd heard about it from a prefect the night before, but hadn't considered what to do if he actually came across him. 'Is that...Peeves?'
Everything happened to fast, but when the scary ghost blew on Ryan he screamed. He hadn't meant to and turned bright red once he had, yet the shock and fear of it was too much. He ducked, hands over his head in hope it'll protect him from whatever Peeves had planned, though doubted it.
In that moment, Ryan had completely forgotten he was a wizard in possession of a wand.
That class had been rough, at least rougher than usual. He needed to get a handle on that fear or soon it could affect his school work and grades. Right now he wanted to head back to his dorm room to relax and collect his thoughts. Maybe even do some more sketching. Jasper had rounded the corner when he heard a noise. More like a cackle than a noise. Seems peeves had found Filch and was probably bothering him again.
He continued to walk on, the Ravenclaw common room was his true destination. There was a scream from down the corridor. This caused Jasper to stop, “So peeves isn’t nothing Filch. He’s found some student,” He muttered. Had some unfortunate first year or years stumbled across the poltergeist? He sighed, he was already nearby. He may as well try to bail them out. He turned towards the corridor and headed towards it. He could always relax later, after all he did have some time before dinner.
Astra was glad that Ruby also knew where to go too. She quickly followed after them, but she was alarmed when Peeves had appeared. "Bloody poltergeist." Astra muttered under her breath after Peeves had got to her air. That would be for the better, after all.
As they continued down the corridors, Astra had a feeling that someone else was after them. She decided to keep on following Ryan and Ruby anyway. They had to be getting close eventually.
As Jasper rounded the corner three student came into view. Upon further inspection there was two hufflepufffs and one from his own house. what was his name? Robert, ronny,… naw he’ll have to ask the boy later. The real problem was Peeves messing with them. What had an older student told him about this poltergeist… Ah That it! “Peeves leave those first years alone. Don’t make me go get the Barron!” he called.
Jasper turned his attention back to the boy and two girls, “You alright?” he called. These first years must be lost, why else would they be wandering this corridor. He decide to help them, “You guys lost?” He asked once he got close enough.
Peeves chased the first years, laughing and mocking them as they tried to flee. Then and older student intervened and he hovered cross-legged in the air again, annoyed to have his fun ruined. At the threat though, Peeves blew a loud raspberry then zoomed through a wall. It seemed he'd left them alone, but for how long?
Astra then noticed the other student appear. He was in Ravenclaw robes as well, but he looked slightly older. So probably a 3rd year, or 2nd. She was glad that a Ravenclaw would be able to help, so she nodded in agreement with what Ruby said. "Yea, we're lost." She said, basically summarizing what her fellow Hufflepuff had said.
Just then, Peeves had appeared again, blowing a raspberry before disappearing. "Ugh!" She exclaimed. "I thought he was gone for good. Well, he is now, hopefully."
Jasper kept his eye on Peeves until he disappeared. He wasn’t going to give the poltergeist the satisfaction he was seeking. Jasper was sure Peeves wouldn’t stay away, it was just not in his nature. One thing Jasper was sure of, Peeves would be back. Probably best He get those first years out now, “Yeah it’s pretty easy to get lost. Specially if your not watching the stairs in the grand staircase,” He smiled.
Ruby had mentioned they were heading to the Library, simple enough. He nodded, “Yeah I know where the Library is,” he shuffled his books to his other hand. He really wished he had stopped by his dormitory, but this was more important. “Let’s go quickly before Peeves returns,” He gestured back toward where the boy had originally came from.
Ryan kept quiet, keeping close to the group and trying to hide how scared he was of Peeves. However, the sight of a fellow Ravenclaw helped - especially when the boy said it was easy to get lost, especially on the stairs. At least it wasn't just Ryan who had trouble with it; maybe it was an inevitable mistake sooner or later? At least they weren't on the way to class or dinner, as being late for either would be awful.
'Thank you.' He breathed a long sigh, giving the older Ravenclaw a shy smile before focusing on his shoes again. Anxious Peeves would come back. Ryan hurried to keep up as they were led out of the creepy corridor and where they needed to go.
Astra was glad that this Ravenclaw boy knew what to do. He seemed to know his way around quite well, so Astra didn't have anything to worry about. Oh, so it is quite easy to get lost. Astra said in her mind. That's good, and at least this boy knows where the library is. Once Jasper had switched his books to his other hand, Astra followed after Ruby, Ryan, and Jasper.
