"Mornin'", he could feel himself perk up when Amber joined him for breakfast.
Not soon after Caine made an appearance as well -- restoring balance to Joshua's world once again. Eventhough he did look sort of mopey. Had his detention gone badly?
Both his friends inquired about the song he was humming quietly and he could feel his face warm up slightly as he started laughing.
"Ahh, you'd know the song, mate. You got it stuck in my brain, after all!"
With a glance at Caine, he hummed the melody at a bigger volume to carry it across the table.
"Did you know he can read and write sheet music?", he asked Amber and gestured towards the man in question. "Incredibly talented to be in such a mood."
Joshua playfully shook his head at his best mate.
Regarding Amber's next question about the card, he hesitated before he shook his head 'no'.
"Only managed to track down Amy in time, so I've sent a normal letter instead. Hope he was happy about that as well," Joshua shrugged.
He hadn't heard back yet, but he hoped for an owl to single him out when post arrived.
And as though he had conjured it with his mind, he heard the first owl screeches and glanced up with hopeful eyes.
Poor birds were drenched, but as one of them landed before him, he could not care less about getting wet from it. He promptly rewarded it with a piece of bacon before he tore open the envelope.
"Dad's home!", he exclaimed loud enough that Martha might hear him, if she sat nearby. Joshua felt like a weight had been lifted from him and he could breathe with ease again.
"He's fine."
Joshua felt a lot better as he finished up his breakfast. Once he had, he only briefly glanced at the prophet, frowning at the story about Werewolf registration. He was sure they'd talk about that in there next HoM class. Too bad Mardling didn't except any bets on that.
"Alright then. Wanna come holler at Amelia - and Benjamin?", he added with a glance at Caine.

While waiting for answers, Amber grabbed some toast and cream cheese. She was about to get a bite as Joshua mentioned Caine being musical. She blinked at him in surprise.
"You do? Do you also play an instrument I don't know of?" she grinned. "I guess you definitely have to show me that song later. Can't have only Josh getting an earworm, right!"
Joshua mentioning the mood, she observed Caine. He did seem a bit moody... She gave him an inquiring look, an invitation to talk about it if he wanted.
Before she could try to cheer Joshua up regarding his letter, the owls arrived - one directly in front of Joshua. As this one shook a bit itself, Amber got wet as well, despite trying to shield herself.
She was about to complain as Joshua exclaimed that his dad was fine.
"That sounds great! I'm happy for you!"
Amber couldn't help herself but gave him a short hug to convey these feelings, or rather it happened automatically, as she felt relieved as well. The whole thing had her friend dragged down, and she had felt with him. So, she was now glad everything seemed to be well with his dad.
And that meant they could go on and watch the Quidditch match without worries.
Now even more excited for it, her tiredness now gone, she almost wolfed down her breakfast and only took a glance at the front page of the prophet. But as she spotted some interesting words of werewolves, dragon eggs and pets with a keen eye, she grabbed her copy and stuffed it in her bag for later.
"Sounds like a plan!" she replied to Joshua with wide grin and got up, grabbing her bag and umbrella, ready to go if her friends were.
At that thought, she shortly glanced around the Great Hall, searching the Ravenclaw table for her new chess partner. As she could not spot Kwame, she hoped he would later join them in the stands.
Sarah startled after a cacophony of sounds filled the Great Hall. Frowning, she looked up to see the owls already arriving. How long was she eating that the post arrived already.
As usual, there was no letter for her, but she did open The Daily Prophet, narrowing her eyes at the front page article. Sarah didn't know why the people couldn't just very well leave the poor werewolves alone, they already had a lot on their plate without sokem bigots going after them.
''Stupid,'' she murmured and flicked the paper away, watching it land in some older year's porridge.
''It's free!'' Sarah grinned and left for the Quidditch pitch. She needed to make a stop in the Gryffindor common room first. After all, Sarah had her house to support and several chants to prepare.

Ryan had a bit of a sleepy start to his day, and was almost tempted to just head to breakfast in his pajamas then change later -- until he glance out the window and saw the rain. He was in no rush to get to the pitch regardless, and didn't even want to attend at all, since neither of his friends were playing. He hated how loud and scary it all was.
Poor Toby had missed Tryouts because of some unjust detention he'd received. Well, unjust in Ryan, Joe, and Toby's eyes, anyway. And as he headed to Breakfast with Joe, Ryan learned that Toby's misfortune continued as he was apparently stuck in the Hospital Wing because he was sick. So not Quidditch for Toby, again.
'Do you think Slytherin is behind it, somehow?' Ryan whispered to Joe as they headed into the hall. 'Toby's bad luck, I mean.'
He wasn't one to suspect someone by house alone, but he'd spent enough time with Toby (and seen how they reacted to things he did) that Ryan was developing a bit of a bias when it came to things like Quidditch.
Quiet through most of breakfast, Ryan couldn't help just feeling bad for Toby. He loved Quidditch so much, and was stuck in bed feeling awful. There was hardly any discussion with Joe about what to do, as they already knew that of course they would be visiting him at first chance. Match or no match. If Toby had to miss out, then Ryan was more than happy to do the same. Not that he wanted to go in the first place.
Especially when it was raining this hard. What if he and Joe caught a cold? At least they could keep Toby company though...
Ryan startled at the arrival of the owls. He wiped water from his face when one had a rough landing, then carefully checked on it -- worried, but not wanting to get bitten if it was a mean one. He didn't have anything from home, but he never did. Ryan grabbed a copy of the Daily Prophet but just shoved it in his bag, not in the mood for more bad news today. He'd read it later when he caved out of curiosity.
It made him nervous, seeing Professor Archerose storm out though. Ryan made mental note that the Profesoor could get mad like everyone else, which burst his bubble a it as he'd hoped at least one of them was reliable in their behaviour.
Ryan and Joe were on their feet as soon as Breakfast ended, though waited a moment for the majority of the Quidditch-watching-lot to rush out.
Joe had buttered some toast to take to Toby, so Ryan walked a bit head of him to make sure no one bumped into them and Joe dropped it. Since Toby didn't feel well, they decided something simple would do. Yet they treated it like something far more precious, because it was. It was for Toby, who was not allowed to suffer anymore today -- and not getting to eat was about as bad as it got.
'Let's go.' Ryan beckoned Joe, once the coast was clear. 'I think I know the quickest way to the Hospital Wing without getting lost now.'

Wait! So it was his song?! He beamed at him as he hummed with him, fingers tapping the tune on the table along with him. It seemed like Josh always knew how to lift his mood - even if it was raining and gross and he was worried about the storm that could come from it.
Flushing a little at the praise, Caine lifted his shoulder in a shrug as Amber asked about instruments.
"I've played classical piano since I was like four." he responded, waving it off in favor of Joshua's words, listening instead to his talking about sending a letter to his dad and the events they'd gotten up to yesterday as he finished up his breakfast.
"In any case, I'm glad you're dad is alright! It's a relief." He had held worry for his friend's sour mood yesterday even though he'd been too... wrapped up to really notice as to why. He was kicking himself about now for being a terrible friend.
But they still had time. They had all day! Caine glanced to his friends as Joshua mentioned going to cheer on Amelia... and Benjamin. He nodded.
"If it thunders I'm out." he said with a laugh, grabbing hold of his umbrella, wrapping Benji's scarf around his neck with a mischievous grin directed at his best friends.

"Awesome!", Joshua jumped up from his seat when both his best friends agreed to leave with the crowd to head for the pitch.
Amber briefly looked as though she was looking for someone though, and Joshua used the brief moment to chuckle at Caine.
"Obviously. If it thunders, we'll wrap you in a blanket burrito and carry you back to the Basement."
Joshua more or less flung his rain coat around his frame and propped up the hood against the rain that would await them outside. Hopefully the rain did not actually turn into a storm, he had not actually figured out how to make good on his promise to carry Caine down the stands in case of thunder.
He was quite looking forward to the match by now, eventhough he'd heard whispers Toby was not playing. Joshua wasn't too worried about his youngest brother however, certain Joe and Ryan/Brian(?) would handle it like pros.
"Better question is, is the rain ready for us?! Come on. Let's go!"

Alright so it was time to go! He glanced at Amber, then back at Joshua, making sure that his Hufflepuff friend was in the middle. He loved both of his friends but he knew all about swapping scarves and, if he were honest, he kind of thought they'd be adorable if they dated. He could play matchmaker!
"Gee, thanks. If it storms I'll just leave on my own, no need for you guys to miss the downpour!" he shot his friend a smile of thanks. If nothing else, he was nervous but didn't like talking about being a coward. Not really.
So, Josh shifted and decided he was leaving and Caine followed with him and Amber, tugging his hood over his head before stepping out of the Castle and into the drenched grounds on the way to the pitch.
"Josh, there isn't anything anywhere that are ready for us so..."
