Getting shoved aside by other students and separated from her friend had been frustrating, and discovering that there was no dessert only added to that. Grace usually didn't eat too much dessert, but she liked at least having the option to do so. Dinner was usually satisfying enough. She hoped that the cupcakes tasted good, but didn't manage to get her hands on any before they were gone.
She barely saw Saoirse, but thought it was probably okay, since they shared a dorm anyways. They could discuss all sorts of cool things, if there was time. Grace was already feeling a bit tired, though she hadn't done much today when compared with the day she played Quidditch. She'd really felt tired, then. She yawned a little and headed upstairs, hoping that she'd be able to be rested so she could watch the Quidditch game tomorrow.

Arthur had thankfully stopped by the bathroom on his way to dinner, because he was rather concerned about having to eat a salad with sap-sticky hands. Thus, he missed the announcement that dessert was discontinued and barely noticed the desserts on hand during dinner. Already, he was thinking about making a potion, and hopefully impressing Professor Snape while he did so.
Bone mend potion would be useful to have, anyways. It would be an easily avoided trip to the hospital wing. Or maybe he'd mess it up somehow and end up having to go to the hospital wing anyhow. Growing an extra arm was not exactly Arthur's idea of having a good time, but he wasn't sure if anyone else would trust his skills enough to drink the potion. Ideally, nobody would be breaking bones in the first place, but it was probably better to be prepared.
Arthur finished up his dinner and was slightly confused to find that no dessert appeared. He thought it might've been a punishment or something, or perhaps this was some tribute to the Sacred Four. Oh well, he thought, and headed to his dorm.

Elizabeth was still questioning why on Earth Twiggs wanted to spend time with her. Was it something Elizabeth had said, or was that just how the Twiggs girl was? She didn't know exactly what her parents thought of the Twiggs family, but she could guess, and she suspected it would not go over well. Perhaps Elizabeth's own skill had so thoroughly impressed Amelia that she had decided she must befriend her.
Either way, she had not gotten the chance to answer, and knew because of Gryffindor and Slytherin's rivalry that answering at the Gryffindor table would not go over well. There were certainly many awful Gryffindors, so Elizabeth could understand the hesitation. Instead, after eating she decided to write a letter to her parents.
Dear Mother and Father,
This morning I received a permission slip from Professor Snape regarding visits to Hogsmeade. I trust your decisions on whether or not I should be allowed to go.
Another interesting thing happened this morning. I was browsing the Daily Prophet and noticed it seemed to be a special edition--it was about the Sacred Four. I have never heard of these people before. Is this a lapse in the judgement of my tutors, or is it simply something I am not yet permitted to know? If the latter is the case, I understand and await the day when I may learn more.
Finally, today's lessons were History of Magic and Transfiguration, where I learned more about the Werewolf Code of Conduct and the Mending Charm. I found the Mending Charm in particular to be a delight to learn, and was able to easily repair a plate.
Your faithful daughter, Elizabeth Doren
Satisfied with her letter, Elizabeth ignored the complaining about dessert missing. She was not used to having a treat every night, despite her many years at Hogwarts compared to her younger siblings. She usually ignored it, just so that she knew when something was special. Her parents, Elizabeth thought approvingly, would be proud of her self-discipline.
She headed off to mail the letter, and then to return to the Slytherin common room.
Samantha saw that the dinner was dwindling down, so she took the opportunity to swipe an apple for pre-sleep munchies or a healthy wake-up snack in the morning.
As she was waiting on Lindsey to continue the conversation should she wished to do so, Samantha spotted Amara arriving into the Great Hall. She was about to apologize to Lindsey and move wherever her roommate sat, but that was unnecessary as Amara took a seat directly across from them. That made Sammy’s plan proceeding easier.
With an apologetic smile at Lindsey, Samantha turned her attention to Amara, waiting a tad for the uproar in the Great Hall to lessen before she spoke.
“Amara, if you’ve the time, can I discuss something with you after dinner in the common room?” Samantha asked politely, slightly leaning forward towards her roommate so that she could hear her better.
While Samantha’s original plan was to talk to Amara during dinner, the staff announcement made that nearly impossible.

Lindsey looked around, realizing that dinner was over and looking around. Where was everyone? All of her dorm mates were not here and Tom was lacking as well. Letting out a sigh, she grabbed a few things to take back with her and grabbed her things. She was rather tired and she wanted to get ready for bed.

Having finished her dinner, Amara glanced over as Sammy spoke to her. She sighed, having had plans to go directly to bed and sleep everything off, but conceded it sounded important and she did get along well enough with her fellow dorm-mates so would hear her out.
'Sure.' Amara nodded, watching Sammy swipe an apple. 'Let's go now,' she said, giving the hall an unimpressed look. She pocked some snacks for herself, then headed out of the Great Hall and made her way to the familiar safety of the Dungeons.

Lindsey watched as Samantha and Amara left the great hall before she shrugged and finished her dinner. Once done, she did another look for anyone from her year she wanted to talk to and then left the great hall and headed to the Slytherin Common Room.
Amelia had sat back down, still grumbling about the whole thing, when she felt someone lean against her and turned to see Jacob. Well, she couldn't help herself when she rubbed his shoulder with her arm wrapped around him. It was going to be okay, they would figure something out.
"It's alright, Jake... We will start getting sweets for our dorm, since the headmaster obviously doesn't care about how we feel about this," she said, glaring towards the staff table before she patted his shoulder.
"Come on, lets go on to the common room," she said as she looked over at the younger fourth year, Rylan before she took one more bit of her food and grabbed a few cupcakes for the dorm room.
“Aye, aye, ma’am,” Samantha jokingly saluted Amara, but cursed herself internally. Why was she incapable of behaving normally when particularly nervous?
Amara wasn’t exactly enthused at the prospect of talking to Sammy, but she said yes, so Samantha counted that as an absolute win. Hopefully, her luck would continue and Amara would be amenable to Samantha trying out for the team.
Samantha waved goodbye to Lindsey and several other people she knew around the table, lovingly messed up the hair-do of a second year she talked to from time to time and left the Great Hall for the Slytherin Common Room.
Jamie didn't stick around long, but ducked out after a older slytherin and to the stairs to head to his common room. He had heard enough grumbling at the tables and felt the need to leave before he had to say something others might not like... Mostly saying he didn't think it was a big deal that dessert had been canceled.
Saoirse had stuffed her face as quickly as she usually did, and had pulled out a quill and paper to write a quick message to her father. Normally she finished these letters long before diner finished, but now that dessert was no longer included people were quick to exit. Saoirse glanced around at the departing crowds with some alarm before returning to her letter to scribble out her explanation.
Hey Papa,
I hope you're back from your fishing trip because I have some news you'll like! I made a friend and she wants me to stay at Hogwarts with her for Christmas break. And I think I want to stay too! I miss you a lot but I really don't want to see Nana and Grandpapa... and you can tell them I said that.
Here, she drew a very rude gesture in the margin.
The food here is good but the water gets colder every day, and the merpeople are so much nastier here than at home! Anyway, I hope you get this in time and that you don't get into a fight with the owl again.
Love you,
Saoirse
Putting away the quill and ink in her thankfully mostly-dry robes, Saoirse folded up the letter and took off to put it in the mail. If the owl was fast, and there were no issues, she might even get a response by breakfast.
