Oliver Bekley's Sorting Ceremony

As the hat was placed on his head, the reassuring counting in his head came to a pause.

His sight was blocked, he was hidden from the stares - the many eyes watching as the small first year took his turn to be sorted. Hearing the voice speaking, the HAT was talking to him - inside his head - that part his family hadn't filled him in on so it was a surprise.

Yet as soon as it began... it was already over!

All that worry and fear and he turned out to be one of the quicker sortings done so far! He honestly hadn't even thought about which of the Hogwarts Houses he might end up in, he knew about each of them of course. His older siblings had gone into great detail on each of the houses - each of them giving reasons why he might end up in the same house as they were in.

But Oliver himself hadn't thought about it himself, quietly he had just hoped that ONE might be a fit for him - that he had enough magic in him to be accepted, that one would be chosen as where he himself would belong.

Apparently, that was to be the same house his Ma had been in when she was at school!

"Thank you, Mr. Sorting Hat." His voice was quiet, unable to be heard much over the sound of the students responding to his house being called out. The stutter in his voice, was prominent - his emotions were still a jumble and it showed, but his thanks were genuine, even if he wasn't completely certain how the hat worked.

Did it understand his speaking? Did others thank it as well? They probably should, after all it was the hat that made sure they were sent to the right house.

There was a soft, shy smile tugging onto his face as he opened his eyes again, allowing the hat to be lifted from his head. His Ma and Mom, would be so excited to hear about his sorting!  Even if it would be a little scary not having one of his siblings in his house - it was his Ma's old house and he was sorted into it just as she had been.

Oliver kept his eyes open this time as he stepped away from the stool, quickly making his way towards the table - his eyes darted to the other three as he sat down near the end where a housemate gestured for him to sit. His feet dangled, not able to touch the ground as he sat.

He caught sight now of his brother giving him a wave and a thumbs up from the house of red and gold. Shifting a little he saw his oldest sister, giving him a small salute and a smile from where she sat among the green and silver.

A hand pats his back and leaning over is his other sister, giving him a little squeeze and ignoring someone telling her to sit down, "Told you, no worries Ollie-Pollie" With a ruffling of his hair she quickly skipped back to join her friends, the yellow and black on their robes catching his eyes.

With a small flush to his own cheeks, he turned back to his own housemates. He was okay, he would be just fine - this was his house and his siblings were still close by - this was the start of his own path.
