An active, character-driven Hogwarts experience set in the early 2000s. Unique items, plots, and features. Non-canon; this isn't Harry Potter's story, it's ours.
With the recent shift of season, the sun set sooner and the nights were cooler. The enchanted ceiling occasionally showed a glimpse of moonlight and a starry sky, but wispy clouds had formed by sundown and occasionally obscured the view.
The Great Hall filled with students and staff, though the excitement of today's practices and tomorrow's match made many Gryffindors and Slytherins especially hungry or conversational tonight. As with during breakfast, Filch and Mrs Norris prowled near the doors - attentive, as if on the lookout for suspicious individuals.
4th years were also active tonight, as they only had a short time to enjoy their dinner before having to head off for their mysterious night event. The older students, especially 6th and 7th years, weren't especially helpful in revealing what to expect. However, there was general advice to finish dinner early and have a shower so they're well-presented for whatever awaited them. Tying back long hair and foregoing robes was among those subtle tips.
Schedule Reminder(night)
Private Tryout(Ravenclaw) - for @freya only, as per arrangement. @nyx will make the thread a the Quidditch Pitch when ready, once dinner or dessert has ended.
Founder's Frivolity - Mandatory for 4th years. Optional for 5th years, who can come and go as they please. A thread will be made at the Ballroom once dinner has ended.
Prefect Patrol - @kaspian & @anjay are on duty tonight in the Main Corridor. Either Prefect can make a thread there once dessert ends.
Amelia had stuck behind with Tiana on the pitch for a bit before she headed to the Great Hall for dinner. Pushing her curly mess back, she ran her fingers through it and grumbled at the small tangles that had appeared during practice. It felt good to fly over the pitch and she walked with confidence in her step, glancing over at the Slytherin table, a smirk appearing on her face. Amelia couldn't wait for tomorrow.
Sitting in her normal spot towards the middle of the table, she was quick to grab a plate and load it up with different food. She was going to need all the energy she could muster for the match tomorrow. While she filled her plate, she grabbed an apple and a handful of nuts, pushing them into her bag. She could put them away when they got back to their dorm.
Lifting her eyes, she searched for her friends but also for Jacob. After thinking about it, she had been a little harsh, but she cared for him and she wanted to make sure he knew that. They would stand by his side and she would find out what happened to him. Those injuries were not from fireworks in his room... No, they had to of come from something else... or someone...
Jamie snuck in with some older students, not trying to catch anyone's attention, though he did glance over to the Slytherin table to search for that older Slytherin who had helped me earlier. He didn't think he could forget her name. Amara. She had been kind to him and he had to admit, it was nice knowing the older kids looked out for you.
Once we sat down, he started grabbed a couple of things and started to eat. He was hungry, but he felt so tired too. After that dip in the lake, the fatigue was getting to him rather quickly. Out of habit, he grabbed an apple and some nuts, shoving them into his bag without any elegance.

Lindsey had left with Tom from Hagrid's hut, headed to the castle for dinner. While Tom would likely need to take the kitten to the Common Room, she told him that was going to save him a spot. When she entered, she couldn't help but admire the ceiling for a moment. To be honest, it never got old, but she was able to focus more on other things outside of the ceiling now that she wasn't a first year.
The room wasn't crowded, yet, but she headed straight for the Slytherin table, waving at a few non-Slytherin friends if and when she saw them. A smile was plastered on her face once she found the perfect spot and placed her bag next to her, so Tom would have a place to sit. Grabbing her plate, she began to fill it with different items and she looked around for her fellow dorm mates.
What were their plans for getting ready prior to the Founder's Frivolity? While she waited for her friends to arrive, she did go ahead and grab some apple and nuts, putting them in her bag to be sorted later. You could never have too many of those in your bag.
There was a plan to visit the greenhouse and harvest his pots, but Kaspian ended up exploring the castle out of curiosity. He'd been a student at Hogwarts for five years now and there were still so many corridors and passages he hadn't traveled. He made a couple new turns, which ended up needing a lot of old turns to get back. But if Kash was going to patrol the school at night, he'd need to learn the layout and figure it out. Better late than never, as they say.
Taking on a more authoritative stride after his orientation, Kaspian slung his messenger bag over his shoulder and made for the Ravenclaw table. He threw a few nods, but wasn't stopped for a chat by any of his peers. He preferred it that way as he was especially hungry tonight.
Kaspian took a seat at the table and grabbed a hunk of bread. It wasn't long before it was lathered in butter and he was taking a bite, his eyes scanning the area around him. There wasn't anyone nearby he was particularly chummy with, so he kept to himself and ate. He hoped a familiar face would arrive soon, whether that was Freya, Nyx, Jaxen or whoever.
He casually grabbed an apple and a handful of nuts, knowing he could make a use of them another time, before his attention switched to a pot of soup on the table. He reached for the provided ladle and served himself some, watching as the steaming broth, colorful veggies and tender meat dropped into his bowl. It smelled delicious, and Kash spooned some to taste.

There were no detours. There were no pit stops. Zach had one thing on his mind and one thing only. Food. He ran the entire way from the pitch, all heavy breathing and sweat, as he barreled through anyone standing in his way. He wanted to talk to his housemates about the practice and how great it was. Jacob mostly. He still hadn't shaken the weird incident from lunch earlier. There was something going on with his friend. Maybe he could figure it out during dinner?
'Fun practice, eh?' Zachary threw himself down at the table where Amelia was sitting. 'I think we've got a fair shot at beating Slytherin tomorrow, don't you?' His conversation was casual, but his actions were disruptive. He leaned his broomstick against the table, only for it to ended up falling and taking some silverware down with it. But it didn't end there, as he knocked over someone's goblet and paired it with an apology as he reached for the beef.
'We got the talent, we got the speed, and we are more than able to best them!' He cut at his beef and stuffed it into his mouth. 'How do you reckon their Chasers are? I don't even know who they've got playing.. not like it'll matter anyway. I can't see anyone handling the Quaffle better than Grace and Tiana. We've got the cream of the crop.'
Freya was anxious this afternoon. This wasn't unsurprising, especially with how excited she was for her tryout later in the evening. Her attention span was uniquely short with how much was on her mind. She couldn't even remember what she had just been doing, all the way up in the library, but it didn't matter. There were places to explore. Anything to pass her free time.
She wandered the halls for a while, drifting in and out of empty rooms and greeting portraits on her way down the staircase. It was a meandering drift, as Freya had no where to be right then. But soon the students were released from classes and everyone was rushing to dinner.
When she got to the Great Hall, she saw everyone gathered at their tables, all resting beneath the floating candles' light. She skipped with all the life and bounce of someone much younger than her, and glanced at those that were eating and talking, and smiled at those that were having fun in their own way. It wasn't long before she slid into a seat across from Kaspian.
'Hi, Kaspian. How was your orientation?' She smiled at him before looking at the food items on the table. There was so much to choose from. 'What to eat, what to eat..' She hummed quietly to herself and tapped a finger against her bottom lip, her singsong tone dripping with indecision. Freya then noticed Kaspian's soup and decided to follow suit.

For those that weren't in the courtyard, they may as well have been. Lucky looked like he had just fought someone. His hair was a disheveled mess, and not the naturally tousled look he went for. He didn't have any bruises, which supported the idea he was the victor. Which, if you asked him, he was. His sleeves were still rolled up too, and dirt still stained the knees of his trousers. He had tried to wipe them clean, but didn't do a good job. Who cared anyway?
Lucky didn't take his usual path to the Hufflepuff table, but instead directed his way towards the Gryffindor one. His friends flanked him at the sides as they strolled the length of the aisle, looking like a whole gang of disgruntled ruffians. They looked badass. Well, Lucky felt like they looked badass. Everyone was entitled to their own opinion or whatever. But they looked cool.
'No disrespect, yeah?' He slammed his hands onto the table where both Amelia Twiggs and Zachary Ryder sat. 'You lot need to control Thatcher. I don't know what crawled up his arse, but whatever it is, it's camping there. Figure out what it is before he shoves the wrong person. That person may not be his friend like I was.' He leaned up. 'Cheers.'
He left them without hearing what they had to say in return. It was for the best. He imagined the two would stick up for their friend or ask more questions, but Lucky wasn't interested in making a bigger deal out of it. He was hungry. After spending his afternoon mucking about the courtyard and getting into a needless fight, he wanted to treat himself to something delicious. Lucky for Lucky, there weren't many others at the table yet, which meant more food for him.
Jurni entered the crowded hall, and immediately, the scent of food wafted in the air. It was aromatic, a mixture of salty and savory smells that were simply irresistible. Her nostril's flared as she inhaled, her feet carrying her further into the room towards her table. While there were a lot of students present at the Hufflepuff table, there weren't many Jurni spoke with often, so she opted for whatever seat she spotted first. There was a less crowded area at the end.
She reached for an apple, before slipping it into her robes for later. Whether it was going to be used for her personal snacking or for something else entirely was beyond her, but Jurni knew the apple would be of use eventually. The more pressing issue was figuring out what to eat now. She unfolded her napkin and placed it neatly on her lap, then spooned portions of a rice casserole onto her plate. As she began her meal, she noticed Lucky Langford approaching.
"Are you alright, Lucky?" she asked, dropping her fork from her mouth. "You look like you've been rolling around the grounds." Then again, did Langford look any different than he normally did? She gave him another glance over, and silently decided that he did. He looked more unkempt than usual. Had he fallen down? That could've explained the dirt on his pants. It was in Jurni's nature to be concerned for others, regardless of how close she was with them.

Lucky had already left the Gryffindor table when Jacob entered, though few noticed as he was quiet and got caught up in a crowd of eager 6th years making their way to the Hufflepuff table as well. Friends of Lucky or just weird timing?
His presence was actually announced by his yell when tripping over Zachary's broomstick. 'Bloody hell, mate.' He grumbled, then plopped himself onto the seat beside the hazard-maker. Was everything trying to kill him now? Maybe he should set off some fireworks in his dormitory then. It could reverse the bad luck, right?
'How was practice?' he asked, as if everything was fine.
It was clear things still weren't. Jake avoided eye contact, devoting his sole attention to staring at his empty plate. He wasn't so hungry anymore, which some may assume that a food-disinterested Jacob was a sign of the end of days. He cradled his arm a bit, more annoyed at its inconvenience than in pain. He shot a look to the Hufflepuff table, then Slytherin, then sighed back at his plate.
His scuffle with Lucky helped a bit, but he was still angry. Jake decided to just pile his plate with mashed potatoes and gravy, moodily gulping spoonful's of it like feeding coal to a furnace. Jake was at least looking forward to dessert. 'I...' He grumbled again, used to making friendly conversation. What could he say? "Oh Seabrook and Mardling are a genuine threat now and may torture you all, oh and I just got my arse kicked by Langford?" He wished. Well, maybe not the last bit.
Jake resumed angrily shoveling mashed potatoes into his mouth, not caring for the gravy mess he made. Come to think of it, he probably looked like a right mess anyway - same as Lucky, like someone who'd certainly been in a fight or scuffle on a lawn recently.

Killed by Devin Kudosen by act of the Killing Curse. June #24, RPG year 1 -- he was a 5th year Gryffindor. Jacob died to save his best friend, Luckett Langford.
Rubes followed the crowd into the Great Hall. She was a little disappointed that dinner had put a stop to her plans for causing a bit of mayhem, but there would be time for making trouble another day.
Approaching the Hufflepuff table, Rubes parked her bum in an empty seat, grabbed a plate and began filling it with hot chips, roast veggies and a piece of fish. She tore off a small chunk of fish, wrapped it in a napkin and put it in her pocket. A yummy treat for Skittles.
Amelia was actually enjoying her food, waiting for her friends when it was like a sudden flurry of action coming all around. Zachary was talking so fast she could barely keep up, which wasn't uncommon. Suddenly, his broom was there and then silverware was flying all over the place, she jumped to the side, eyes wide in surprise and just pure shock. Was this boy an older version of Toby or something?
He spoke about how much fun practice was and how they had a shot at beating Slytherin, all before he sent a Goblet spilling all over the place. It was all she could do to follow along with the boy and she couldn't help but look around for Toby. The last thing she needed was for someone to encourage his similar antics at their table. At the question about Slytherin's chaser, she glanced over her shoulder at their table and shrugged.
"I don't know, I guess we will find out tomorrow for sure," She said, sometimes wishing he could sneak into practice and watch herself. What she did know was that Amara Seabrook was a talented Beater and she was going to be aiming those bludgers at her team mates. Amelia had determination to make sure that she was there to combat against Amara.
Suddenly, there was a hand slammed on the table and Amelia jumped back and looked up, straight into the eyes of Luckett Langford. They had been friends since they started at Hogwarts. What did he mean, control Thatcher? What had happened? Standing up, she looked over at Lucky and leaning over the table.
"Shove? Lucky, what happened?" But he was gone before he finished what she said. That was going to need to be a conversation for later. Maybe she might find him camping in the kitchens one day? Shaking her head, she looked towards the door, waiting for Jacob, which didn't take long. She had been watching Lucky walk away when she heard a yell and looked behind her to see Jacob tripping over a certain Gryffindor's broom and she gave Zachary a slight glare.
Amelia sat down by Jacob and watched him for a few moments, a look of concern on her face. This morning's conversation with him didn't go over well, so it was time to take a breather and face it calmly... That was tough for her.
"Jacob... What is going on?" Amelia asked, turning towards him with a look of pure concern and pleading to know the truth. "You have never been like this... You're always happy and you Lucky are friends... He just came over saying control Thatcher and you and Lucky both look like you have been rolling on the ground." Inwardly, she wanted to touch his shoulder to show him that she really did care, but she also didn't want to hurt the cradled arm.
Arriving in the great hall, Rylan had no doubt that he was ready for dinner, his stomach rumbling ever so slightly as he made his way to the Gryffindor table. Even so, he had been a little later than most, as after Herbology there had been one thing he was more desperate for than food - a shower.
Taking a seat not far from an excitable Zachary (but then when wasn't he?) He filled his plate up and grabbed himself a drink. He also made sure to grab an apple, after reading that the Beast Reserve could use some extra. He wished he could do more to help out there, get some experience for later life, but he knew that he would need to be able to competently handle the creatures who lived there before he tried to get too clever.
He wondered about the mysterious event that his year had been 'requested' to attend, but so far any questions had yet to bare fruit. In a way, he was a little disappointed, as he had hoped to make a start on his Herbology homework, but this was outweighed by the curiosity of just what to expect. Especially as he had been advised to forgo robes and make sure he was well presented.
Turning his attention back to Zach, he flashed him a grin as he finished another mouthful of dinner.
"Take it practise went well", he observed as he waited to see what his team mates would think of his enthusiasm. Other than Amelia, who seemed to have a sensible head on her shoulders when it came to her answer. No one truly knew what the future held, and quidditch was a funny old game, after all.
His attention was then diverted by the not so subtle approach of Jacob, tripping over Zach's broomstick and complaining loudly before taking a seat. He looked pretty beat up, not to mention miserable, so whatever fight he'd been in, he had clearly lost. He almost asked what had happened, but Amelia beat him to it, leaving him to just look concerned for the older boy.
She had mentioned Lucky, a Hufflepuff, having been at their table, requesting that they 'control Thatcher', but that must have been just prior to his arrival.

Ryan lingered at the doorway, wary of Filch but even warier of his own house table. He hadn't got to finish his gobstones game, but still did some of his missions. He was exhausted, not just physically from all the running around, but mentally from scary social situations.
Yet he had one more thing to try. Bracing himself for death, he awkwardly marched to the Ravenclaw table and sat beside a 5th year Prefect. He was somewhat familiar to Ryan, but he had no idea of a name or if he was a mean person.
'Hi,' he squeaked to the 5th years, face hot knowing he was probably interrupting them and they'd yell at him.
In case he needed someone to hide with after, Ryan gave Jamie a greeting wave. Where was Joe, anyway? He much preferred his best friend. He then groaned, lowering his head to rest on his plate from exhaustion. While there, Ryan picked some chips to nibble on. If he choked, at least it won't be worst than scary social situations with big kids.

The brief meeting with Jay and Ruby was cut short when Dinner started and Joe could not help but feelglad. He did not actually want to get into trouble if he could help it. He did not know the Hufflepuff girl enough to stick his neck out for her and he much rather would get into trouble with his best friends- if he had to get into trouble that is.
He took a small detour to the Great Hall, not wanting to be the first one there again and his plan seemed to have worked. Joe spotted Ryan sitting with some older kids which made him hesitate a moment before approaching and sitting down opposite of his best friend, a small wave twards Jay in the process.
Joe could not care about the older kids right now, he had too much to tell his best friend. Deciding to ignore their presence after a shy "Hello", he leaned forward and filled some chicken and potatoe stripes onto his plate.
"Ryan, you will never believe what I did today!", he said excitedly. "There's rooms up the spiral tower and if you have a key you get to solve puzzles to get a reward. I got ingredients for playing with plants!"
He started eating, looking around for Toby but could not spot their best friend yet. They would have to make sure to ask about Quidditch practise- although Joe was not sure if Toby would actually tell him much since he was on a competing team.
"I also thought I almost drowned in a room with clocks and pretty balls but it was all some game so I wasn't really in danger.", Joe shrugged. He did not want his friend to know how terrified he had actually been. Both because he did not want to be seen as a scaredy cat and because he did not want to turn Ryan off from potentially going to such a room himself.
"What have you been up to? Got everything done?" Joe eyed his best friend curiously. Ryan had had some mystery missions this afternoon and Joe wondered if he would tell him now.
