Toby had barey sat down at the Ravenclaw table than he felt something hit him on the head, it didn't hurt but he instinctively turned to look for whoever had thrown it at him- he didn't even care what it was, it was the action itself that made him mad. However, he didn't see anybody nearby who looked guilty of the crime, so he just turned back to Ryan, grumbling incoherently about the incident.
"I slept okay" he answered his friend, still a little annoyed but more concerned with Joe's absence. He was sure that the other boy had probably just decided to skip breakfast, if he was in real trouble, Ryan would've probably heard something about it by now.
The arrival of the morning post disrupted his train of thought and he looked up expectantly before lowering his gaze once again. He'd only recently received a letter from his parents and he hadn't yet written back- so it was unlikely that they would send him another letter. He reached for another slice of toast, just as a clumsy owl dropped a rather large suspiciously broom shaped parcel in front of him and proceeded to try and drown itself in a jug of pumpkin juice.
"Stupid bird!" Toby hissed as he looked down at his robes that were now covered in juice and a variety of cereals that had been disturbed by the package. That owl was always crash landing, it was bloody useless and so distracted by the birds landing, Toby didn't recogise immediately that the parcel it had delivered must be for him.
The thing that drew his attention to the fact was Ryan telling him to open it, looking down at the package, the boy let out a strange strangled sound as he realised this and he barely even looked up upon hearing Amelia's voice so close to him. There was really only one thing that it could be and it somehow caused his brain to short-circuit momentarily, he knew that his parents couldn't afford to get him a fancy broom, but he hadn't exepected even a cheap or secondhand one to be delivered so quickly.
Grabbing the note the fell from the package, he read it quickly before stuffing it into his pocket. The moment he had done so, his hands flew to the paper wrapping his gift and he frantically tore it open with urgency unrivalled by any other. When he finally saw his new broom, the air got caught in his throat and it seemed as though he lost the ability to talk temporarily.
"Oh my god..." he eventually choked out the words, just staring at the broom as if afraid to touch it- was he dreaming? No... If he was dreaming then Amy wouldn't be there. "This is bloody brilliant!" he suddenly exclaimed, snapping out of his daze as he picked up the broom finally, feeling the weight of it in his hands and finding it impossible to wipe the smile from his face.
He had the best parents in the world, if he hadn't got that stupid homework session first thing then he would immediately write back to them, thanking them for the gift. He hadn't expected to get a swiftstar from his parents, he thought maybe they'd get him something secondhand- and maybe another student with more money might've laughed at his excitement at receiving a swiftstar over something more fancy- but for Toby, it was the best gift he'd ever received.
"I've gotta go! I'll um... See you... At homework" he quickly muttered a goodbye to Ryan, hoping he'd get the point that he'd see them at their first and only planned 'class'. For now, he was off running towards Gryffindor tower, determined to store his new broom in his dormitory while he was in class.
He ignored her! Amelia felt her blood rising and as he left carrying the rather awesome broom, she felt her eye twitch. Oh, he was gonna be in for it, that was a promise. Walking back, she checked the Great Hall for Jade, Tiana, Jacob, and Anjay before she grabbed her things.
Anjay was talking to a Ravenclaw, so she shouldered her stuff and headed out, moving to the Homework Hall. Toby was still salty about their last conversation, but he didn't need to be rude.

"I'll see you later then, Charlotte." Elizabeth nodded. Gah, this didn't seem like the normal sister relationships the rest of her peers seemed to have. Did she even want it to be like that? "Enjoy the day. Keep to your studies." she gave her some advice before leaving. She would have to pack her morning full of studying if she intended to do some gardening, and then there was more time to think of what she would be wearing for tea with the Minister.

A moment passed as Charlotte watched her sister leave, an urge to speak up bubbled inside her but she pushed it down and turned back to her food; if she didn't finish her food now then she was gonna be hungry for the rest of the morning.
It didn't take long for breakfast to come to an end and when it finally did Charlotte stood from her seat and made her way to the exit, her eyes moved up and down the hall as she left hoping Mackenzie had slipped in while she was distracted; her shoulders slumped as she came up empty handed, maybe Mackenzie had skipped breakfast? She didn't know but she hoped her friend was okay.

Ryan assumed the older Gryffindor who joined them was one of Toby' siblings - which was confirmed by her use of "Mum and Dad". Unless her parents had sent a random kid something, but that didn't make sense. Were all of his family in Gryffindor?
His thoughts were sidetracked by the amazing broomstick sitting in front of him. Ryan didn't have much interest in playing Quidditch, but even he couldn't deny how cool of a gift that was. That must have cost a lot of money too, though he knew just enough about Toby not to comment on that. He was hardly one to talk either; this school stuff may be new, but his casual clothes were all second-hand.
Everything happened really fast then, and Toby had rushed off with his broom.
'Uh, me too.' Ryan jumped to his feet. 'Homework.' He dashed out of the hall, careful not to trip on his robes this time. He'd intended to follow Toby and get another look at the broom, but had lost him already. He frowned, and decided to just head to the Homework Hall and meet up with his friends there.

To her credit, Amara just listened to Lucas and didn't immediately grab her wand to go hunt Thatcher down. She thought about it, and was enraged just hearing what happened and how worst it could have been, but it was the middle of breakfast.
'He needs more than just being taught a lesson at this point,' she said in an angered whisper. Amara glared at the Gryffindor table, still convinced they'd been behind the glitter prank on her house. The rage was there, but she was sidetracked by the arrival of the post. She didn't know if that Xcalyn woman was still around the school; seeking retribution if she was would be all kinds of a bad idea.
Amara skimmed the front page, still angry and thinking about what happened. What Thatcher had put Lucas through. A part of her didn't know how to feel about it all. Not that idiot, who she felt hatred for and wanted to curse until he cried, but rather that Lucas was showing a side of himself she related to more. She couldn't be sure, but something about him seemed as if he was disgusted by what happened. But was it directed at Thatcher or himself?
'Hey, we'll get him. I promise, that idiotic troublemaker won't get away with this.' Amara stared at the paper, not seeing the words but trying to decide if she should make contact with him or not. She was used to comforting her cousins, not people her own age who she hadn't grown up with. 'C'mon, we have to go hand in our homework. Then we can work out how to deal with Thatcher. See if he likes being ganged up on for once.' She moved her hand to place it on his wrist, hoping it wasn't weird or unwelcome.
Afraid it was, she quickly stood and gripped her wand. Amara folded the newspaper to read it properly lately, and glared as she noticed the little Twiggs boy running out of the hall with a new broomstick. He was small. She looked forward to knocking him off that broom. With a shy glance at Lucas, Amara headed out fo the Great Hall.

Recovering from the shock of Anjay's invitation, Jaxen begrudgingly finished off his breakfast- although he really wasn't feeling very hungry anymore. Actually... It was kind of nauseating, the idea that he would have to meet the minister and had no idea why he was being presented with such an opportunity. He would definitely need to ask Elizabeth if she had any idea why they'd both received an invitation, when he had the opportunity to approach her.
"Yeah... I get that" Jax replied when Mathias explained that he was probably just a little homesick. Jax often found himself missing home, most of the time he found himself thinking about what might be happening at home, even if he didn't mean to. "I miss home too... But Christmas is in a couple months and then we'll be home for the holidays" his own anxiety had eased through the years of attending Hogwarts, but this year was different... Now that all of his siblings were attending school, his mother would be at home alone for the first time that he could remember and that sparked another level of anxiety for him to tackle.
"I think I only have a few things left to finish, so hopefully I won't be stuck in the hall too long" he said, getting distracted as the post arrived at that moment and he looked for any sign of a letter from home... There wasn't one, but he did scoop up a copy of the daily prophet. There was an interview with Anant Xcalyn and he immediately turned the pages frantically to locate it- hoping it might give him some incite on what to expect later in the day.
When the food disappeared from the table, marking the end of breakfast and signalling that it was time for them to start heading to the homework hall, Jax stuffed the newspaper into his bag- hoping he'd have time to finish reading it before having to attend tea with the minister and Anjay's father. "I'll see you in the hall? You can sit with me and use my notes if you want" he extended the invitation to Mathias, unsure if the other boy would take him up on it or if he had his own notes he'd rather utilise. Still, it was worth extending an invite... Jax found studying in groups was far more useful than doing it alone. Gathering up his things, he headed out of the hall, straightening his tie as he went- Anjay's words about the way he was dressed obviously having made an impression.
