A groan fell from the young Slytherin, making it to breakfast just in time for the daily prophet to be delivered; her back cracked slightly as she took a seat near the other Slytherins. As the noise made it to her ears she couldn't but stretch her arms above her head, another groan came with it before she got to putting food on her plate; she had fallen asleep on a chair in the common room last night and it definitely wasn't the best option for her back.
Hanna's eyes looked up from her plate when a flash of red came towards the table, she didn't know his name but she could tell he wasn't there for her; although she looked away from the older boy, her attention going to the daily prophet, she couldn't help but listen into the conversation. Her eyes grew wide at the mention of the minister, had she missed something in her sleepy haze? he head shot up and she took a quick look round the room before her eyes fell on the person in question.
Neith Xcalyn… she was an Auror which meant she might know her mother, Hanna turned back around at the thought before quickly finishing her food and standing up to leave; she knew it was highly unlikely her mother would be here to but she couldn't take that chance, she had to go somewhere quiet until the homework lesson started.
Turning to look at the arriving Owls, he gasped as he noticed Rook was among them. They got the Letter! Waving to Grace again, he tried to get her attention.
"It's a good thing to think about at least" He nodded again to Jamie, before taking his copy of the Daily prophet, his letter and before opening either, piled plenty of food on his plate for Rook. It must have been a Long Journey, so he deserved all he took from his plate.
Reading the Letter from O'Khlore first, he wondered what thing he should put in the Chest. There was also the issue of how one should plant the Seed. He wasn't much of a Gardener, so this might be a struggle. At least while they needed to put something in the chest seperately, the two of them could work together to grow their plants. Gerald began to wonder how long it would take. Would they graduate first?
Turning his attention to the Newspaper, he noticed the connection from the Anant Xcalyn in the paper, as well as the one up at the big table. This was interesting, given the recent disappearance of a Famous Auror.
It was also interesting that there was mention of the Swans. Adults don't really slow down at all, it seems, since it seemed not too long ago, their Captain Retired. The same could be said for Rickard becoming Headmaster, as well as the internships for the Ministry.
Then again, He pondered. It might be interesting to work as an Auror or a Professor, at last for one day.
The youngest Doren paused at the door to the Great hall when she had finally made it to breakfast, it was loud and it made her want to skip breakfast and leave; her hands clenched into fists at her side and she took a deep breath before moving towards the Hufflepuff table.
Her head turned to the side so she could look at each table, her eyes came to a stop on her older sister and a small sadness came over her as she saw the letter from who she could only assume was her parents; she shook the thought from her mind as she took a seat next to Arthur. She hadn't seen Mackenzie that morning which meant her only other options were to sit alone or next to Arthur; she didn't really know him well to call him... what was it? a 'friend'?
The word made her pause slightly as she plated her food, what did it even mean to be someone's friend? she didn't know but she hoped she'd find out, maybe she could even ask Mackenzie when she arrived at breakfast.

Lindsey had returned to her meal when the sudden sound of flapping wings caused her attention to snap to the ceiling an watch in amazement. The only thing she was expecting ws the daily prophet, but she smiled when she saw her mother's owl make it's way towards her and the Slyteherin table. As the owl landed, she stroked her chest feather and opened the letter while the owl nibbled on some of her breakfast.
A Leannan, Your father and I are so proud of you getting your kit! I don't know if you have received your potion's kit, but if you have, congratulations. Your father is so proud of you and he wishes he could really brag on his witch daughter to his muggle friends. But, to all our magical neighbors, they are also very proud of you M' annsachd.
Chaser of the Slytherin Team! So exciting! You are receiving your brand new, Ironbark Broom soon! We wish we could attend your games, but you know muggles can't come, but we want you to tell us all about it! Every detail! Mòran Gaoil, mo chridhe do mhàthair
P.S. Your mom nearly sent this before I could write you. I am so proud of you and I send you many kisses and hugs from your beaming father.
Stay Safe, M' Annsachd, D’athair
A smile spread on her face and she placed the letter down on the table, available for anyone near by to read it as needed before she pulled out her letter and scribbled something on it. The copy of the daily prophet landed before her and she jumped slightly, pushing it to the side as she finished the second Post Script.
Mhàthair & D’athair, I'm just returning to my room after a very long, but great day. I did not get a letter from you today, but I am sending this after breakfast tomorrow. I hope you both are okay, but I wanted to tell you that I got my potion's kit. I also helped my friend, Tom, with some of his. He is a older student and very nice. Avery helped me as well. She is great and I wanted to ask if she could come and visit for one of the coming holidays, maybe Christmas or Summer?
Please let me know soon so I can ask her.
Mòran Gaoil Lindsey
P.S. I just got to breakfast, owls haven't come yet and you aren't going to believe who is here. Neith Xcalyn! I couldn't believe it either, beyond shocked.
P.S.S. I just got you letter this morning! An Ironbark?! I am beyond excited and can't wait to get it!
Folding it up neatly, she offered it to the owl, who took it with a nudge of her beak before flying off. Lindsey watched it head to the open window and smiled once it was gone, returning her attention over to Tom. "I'm getting an Ironbark!" She said brightly with lots of excitement before she turned to the prophet.
The first part about the internships were interesting and she sat up a little straighter to read over the article. She would have to ask her parents about that because she wanted to check out the internship for St. Mungo. She looked at the rest of the articles, spending extra time on the one about celtic runes and on the Swedish teams recruitment.
Amelia looked up when she saw and heard the post come in, snatching a Daily Prophet as quickly as she could and then being surprised when another owl appeared, one she recognized as her parents. Taking their letter, she read it and chuckled lightly at the mention of first-year discrimination. She would write them a letter by the end of this evening and have it sent by one of the school owls. Better need to explain this, but she didn't want Jade to be pulled into it either.
Shaking her head, she started to read over the prophet calmly and glanced around searching for Anjay. Maybe he could explain what was going on now that he had spoken to his mother. Amelia made sure no crazy, younger students sat down and she waited to see if he would come and join her before breakfast ended. If not, they could talk while they worked on Homework together or something.
As she went through the last article, taking her time on the Recruitment being done by the Swedish team, she caught movement above and duck slightly when she saw another of her parents owls make a sharp turn towards the Ravenclaw Table. The owl was probably not that low, but instincts had propelled her to lower herself. Watching as the broom stick landed, she got up and headed towards the table with her brother.
She had just heard a Ravenclaw boy comment about opening it and she lowered herself to their level. "Yeah, open it up, Toby. I want to see what Mum and Dad got you." A smile had formed on her lips and she sat down with the younger boys.
Jamie was staring slightly at his food when the owls came in and his head shot up. If his parents owl was thread, it was lost in the flurry of wings and parcels. Gerald mentioned something about thinking about his idea and then suddenly, a small owl was before them. Jamie couldn't help but smile at the owl and thought maybe he could ask for an Owl for Christmas, but they weren't that cuddly. Offering the small owl some of his own cereal, he looked at Gerald as he read his own letter.
Things had calmed down a bit when suddenly, he felt the table vibrate and looked up to see a a few kids from his year and a broom-shaped package before a Gryffindor who had joined them. Even Jamie was a little interested and craned his head to check it out. Shaking his head, he grabbed a copy of the prophet and started to read over it, though it didn't seem that interesting to him...
Jamie just wasn't as interested in the idea of getting a job in the magical community... Sighing, he put his head back down, his chin resting on his arm as he looked across at Gerald. "Letter from home?" Jamie was tapping his own letter on the table, anxious to send it home.

As soon as she heard the screech of owls, Grace's eyes widened. Her mother's owl dropped a letter in front of her, and she realized it was for her and her siblings. She also picked up a copy of the Prophet to read later, in case there was anything interesting. Grace dashed over to the Ravenclaw table, inserting herself somewhat close to Gerald and Jamie. Her eyes also went to Toby and Ryan, as she realized that Toby had been sent a package. She wondered what was inside of it.
"Letter came for us." she said to Jamie, handing it over. She knew he liked to read them first. She noted that Gerald had also gotten a letter. "Is that from...Kahlin O'Klore?" she asked. She really wanted to know what it said. There didn't seem to be any seeds attached, which was slightly disappointing. She had hoped it would be as easy as ordering ingredients in the mail.
(The letter from the Babineaux parents)
Hey kids,
I hope you're having fun at Hogwarts. I'm dying to know where you got sorted, housewise. I've got some predictions I've shared with your dad, even if he's not sure what the houses are all about. If you haven't already, you should look into trying out for Quidditch. I was a pretty good Beater in my day. We miss you back home, but I still find ways to keep busy. Especially at work at St. Mungo's, and with your dad fiddling around with his Muggle-y gadgets. I hope all of you are doing well in all of your classes, and if you're having trouble, remember, you've got two friends taking the same class. Ask each other for help. Write often! I want to hear about all of your adventures. Try not to set your professor's robes on fire.
Love, Mum.
Hey Kiddos Having fun at school? Your mom has been going on and on about which Houses you guys might be placed in. I have honestly no idea what she means, but she tried and explained it to me. I think she is hoping you all get the same, but you are all unique, I am hoping it is all different. I think you all three need to be separated a little, to grow in your own, unique way.
Oh, Jamie, I grabbed a few parts for our projects and I'm looking forward to working on that with you. I also got you a magazine. It has some of articles on the up-coming seasons and also a small racing section. Enjoy!
The sudden appearance of Grace made him lift his head, but he took the letter she offered and opened it up, placing his own down as he peered around the Great Hall. "Did Mum's owl already leave?" He felt his heart sink. He would certainly need to go to the owlry now. Well, he could do it after he went to Homework Session. Opening the letter fully, he began to read and felt a lump in his throat slightly. He really missed home, but he managed not to let any tears slip out this time.
Parts for the Project sounded great and he pulled out his letter to make a Post Script.
P.S. I got Ravenclaw! Did you bet on that one or a different one, Mum?
He looked up as his sister asked a question and he looked between the two in confusion. "Who is Kahlin O'Klore?" Being a Halfblood certainly didn't mean he knew everyone, especially since he really was not into the whole magical thing. He had no choice but to be here, even if he wished he wasn't.

Elizabeth nodded. She would indeed be wearing proper clothes, ones suitable for meeting the Minister or having her photo taken. Ones that would make her parents proud. She was just thinking about them when the screech of a few owls startled her and she looked up to see the birds flying into the Great Hall. She was given a letter, a response. She was pleased with this, though she took note of all the things her parents had written.
First, to tell Charlotte of their congratulations. Elizabeth would keep the part about a more respectable house to herself. Next, she would focus less on what other pranks and fights the rest of the school was getting up to, as she had in past years. She thought to herself that she might disobey by paying at least a little bit of attention. All the more normal students seemed to recall names, and indeed, Elizabeth thought, if someone turned out to be important later, then it was all the better she learn their name.
She knew she shouldn't have let people cast charms on her! It had felt all wrong in class and she was pleased to know that her feelings of uneasiness were verified. Next time she would ask Professor Rivera to allow her to sit out on the portion which involved the other people casting charms on her, though she would definitely wish to practice her skills by casting charms on others...she would also ask her parents about which Charms, Jinxes, or Hexes they thought she should learn.
When she got to the part about not spending too much time in the greenhouse, she nodded. She had never felt as comfortable, but she did think that she should get over herself in case the skill was necessary. She felt a bit disappointed when her parents wrote that they had not yet chosen her career, as she would have liked to have a focus for this year, something to excel in and focus on that would make them proud. They would be glad to hear about the afternoon tea with the Minister, and Elizabeth almost wished she had waited until tonight to write her first letter back.
Elizabeth stood and walked gracefully over to the Hufflepuff table. "Charlotte." she said, hoping to draw the attention of her youngest sibling, sitting next to an older boy she didn't recognize. And shouldn't, according to her parents, if he was not notable. "Mother and Father congratulate you on being sorted into Hufflepuff. 'Loyalty and being hard-working are no small virtues.'" Elizabeth quoted her parents. She wondered what else she should say. What were sisters supposed to say to each other?
Due to staying up late last night working on homework, Rose had woken up late that morning. She quickly got dressed and tidied up her room before taking off almost running to the cafeteria. She got there and quickly sat down at the end of her table. Grabbing a little bit of food and eating it slowly.
Charlotte froze in her seat when her name was called, her eyes moved to see who had called her and quickly came to a stop on her sister; placing her fork next to her plate, she turned to face Elizabeth and met her eye. Her features remained blank as she listened to what her parents had written about her, did they really mean what they said?
"Thank you, Elizabeth" a long pause came after she spoke, not really knowing what else to say "it reminds me, I should really write to them. To tell them how my studies are going" it came out slightly mumbled and almost forced; was this how sisters interacted? She didn't know what else to say, instead deciding to turn back to her food; her eyes continued to flicker back to her sister in case she still wanted to talk.
Rereading the letter again to make sure he understood, Gerald shook his Head in response to Jamie. "Grace and I are exploring the school, and I had to ask someone about something we found. Kahlin O'Klore is a Collector of Old stuff, and we found something that might be important to her."
Holding the Letter to Grace, who he realised had moved closer, he thought for a moment about the hunt. "I don't think I can really explain it, but if you'd like the Sorting Hat can say it better than I could."
"Rook can take your Letter too, if you'd like?" Gerald quickly said, thinking that Rook might not be too worried about it. "I think, all you'd need to do in return is give him some food later?"
Food disappeared from the tables as breakfast ended. Busy chatter continued as staff and students left the Great Hall, preparing for a day of their own choosing. Though before students could make their own plans and enjoy hours of free time, they were all due at the Homework Hall for their one mandatory task.
A few owls lingered in the hall, waiting their turn to leave or to receive some hurriedly-written response that should be delivered next. Most didn't quite understand the urgency, but were happy to help themselves to treats some older students remembered to bring with them for exactly that purpose.
Homework and Ravenclaw Try-Outs threads are now available. Each student must show their attendance at the homework hall before they have free time, regardless of their plans for the morning.
The 1st year plot event starts during the homework session for @mackenzie , Tobias Twiggs , and Ryan Barrow - details of which will be released in the Member Network section soon.
At the explanation about who the woman was he had asked about, he nodded and sighed. Well, he could send the letter after he was done with his homework today. As he began to put it away, he was caught off guard by Gerald explaining about the sorting hat. He could talk to the sorting hat? That thing had been scary in it's own right and he had hoped he would never see it again until next year when he wouldn't have to have it on his head.
With the offer for Rook to take his letter, Jamie looked at the owl and smiled, offering the letter to Gerald since it was his owl. "Thank you and I don't mind sharing with him at all." With that, he glanced at his sister, took the magazine and headed to the homework hall. "Thanks again Gerald and bye Grace."

The food disappeared as she finished her last bite and she looked over at Tom with a smile, gathering her things to head towards the Homework Hall before standing up and looking around. "Better get goin'. See you in the Homework Hall?" It would be nice to sit with either him or Avery, though at a quick glance, she didn't see her friend. Maybe she had come and gone and Lindsey had missed her? It was possible...
Letting out a sigh, she waved to Tom and headed towards the door. She turned around quickly and called out. "We can talk later and make plans to go to the owlry after homework." She was really looking forward to that.
