Grace watched as Toby left. "See ya." she said, still looking at her breakfast. She tucked her apple in the pocket that did not currently contain a rather feisty rat, recalling that Marcia did like apples. She considered joining him, or rather, joining Gerald, at the Ravenclaw table, but post hadn't come yet, and she knew she wouldn't be able to not pester him about if he sent the owl or not. Plus, she saw him talking to her brother.
Grace didn't really know how Jamie was doing at Hogwarts. She knew she should be talking to him, as well as their sister, more, but exploring the castle was so much fun. She should really tell Jamie about it. Hopefully he and Gerald were having a nice conversation, whatever they were talking about.
Though he was concerned about what was going on, not enough to miss his sister coming into the Great Hall. She went right to her table and he felt his face burn a little. It was like he didn't even exist anymore and he put his nose down to his food and ate quietly. He really wanted to be home right now, away from all of this. He had seen the person go towards the front, but had quit paying attention to anything now.
As he pushed his fingers under his eyes, trying to make sure he wasn't crying from anything, he shoved some food in his mouth and then felt someone else join him. Glancing up, he saw Gerald and glanced towards the staff table at the question.
"Neith Xcalyn... Famous Auror." He said simply, really not too concerned, mostly because he was upset. "But, I don't think I would call them Police." Well, as he thought about it, maybe? But Aurors were so much more than just Police. Muggle equal might be a detective? But did the ministry have another for like Police Work? Jamie didn't know honestly... Maybe he could ask his Mom in another letter.
Anjay smiled as his mother delivered her lame joke, happy in the knowledge that just because she was a serious and accomplished person, that didn't mean she couldn't be silly from time to time. Now that he was older he was getting to know his mother not just as a mother, but as a person. He saw snippets of who and how she was outside of being his mom, and it made him feel good.
News of tea with the Minister and his father filled him with joy. "Awesome!" he exclaimed at the news. Undignified, definitely, but he couldn't help it. His smile lessened, however, when he was handed a list of names of students to invite along with him. Elizabeth Doren? Jaxen Ashworth? Why were these kids getting invited? Was this some kind of publicity stunt?
Anjay knew of the other two fifth years but hadn't heard of a Lindsey Bryce. He had to invite each one and get at least one to accept... hmm. Not necessarily a difficult task, but again, why? Oh well. He would do what he was told. He bid goodbye to his mother and headed to the Slytherin table first, approaching Elizabeth.
Elizabeth was a pretty girl and had a dignified look to her. Plus, Anjay knew her family had a lot of money and she would definitely know how to behave in front of the Minister. Anjay spotted her at the table and walked up to her, lightly tapping her on the shoulder. "Excuse me, Elizabeth," he said to her warmly, "Sorry to bother you. You've been invited to tea at Hogsmeade with myself and the Minister this afternoon. Will you come?"
Oh, He must be a Halfblood, then. Or at Least a Well-Adjusted Pureblood. What concerned Gerald a little was Jamie putting his fingers in his eyes. Was something to spicy, was he crying.
Nodding along to Jamies Description, he wondered how the Auror would spell her name, but he had to ask Jamie something. "Are... Are you okay?"

Elizabeth had continued eating her breakfast silently, though she was sure she was observing things around the Great Hall. She wondered why exactly a Ministry presence was needed at Hogwarts, but she wasn't against it. She was still considering it when the boy who had been talking with Neith Xcalyn, Anjay, Elizabeth's classmate, tapped her on the shoulder. She spun around to see him.
"Good morning." she said, masking the feeling of alarm that had come over her at not noticing his approach. Elizabeth usually prided herself on knowing what was going on. She listened to what Anjay had to say, feeling rather shocked. The Minister wanted to invite her over for tea? Her parents would definitely like to hear about that, she decided. "Thank you for the invitation, Anjay." she said, kindly, "I would be quite pleased to join the Minister and you for tea."
There seemed to be a lot going on this morning but Tom was too preoccupied to take in any of it. He appreciated Lindsey's explanation as to who the lady standing in front of the Head Table was. Tom had been in the wizarding world long enough to know that Aurors were special agents of magical law enforcement. Tom imagined them as kind of the wizard world's equivalent to Muggle kids idolizing James Bond.
Tom had eaten a few pieces of bacon but needed more to sustain him until lunch. He grabbed an English muffin and buttered it and placed a few hard boiled eggs on a plate and began to throw everything into his mouth as quickly as possible. He watched as Lindsey seemed very interested in what was going on up at the front.
He did hear her question and didn't understand what the word she had said meant, but knowing her he could only assume she was asking about Halloween in her own native language. After all, it was Halloween today, the biggest day on the calendar in the wizarding world. It was one of Tom's favorite days and made him especially glad he was a wizard. "I'm super excited," he responded to her. "I wonder what kind of stuff we're going to see happen today."
Jamie sniffled slightly, his thought too absorbed in his self-pity slightly before he heard Gerald's question. Glancing up, he felt his eyes linger on his sister for just a moment before he shook his head and looked at the folded letter on the table that he would send to his parents today. "No..." He said to the guy and looked back at his food, taking another bite.
"Just... things." It was the truth... Things were bothering him and he really wanted to be home. But, it was nice to have someone to talk to this morning.
Anjay was pleased to see that Elizabeth had accepted the invitation. She came from a good family, so it was no surprise to him that she was happy to accept and did so in a gracious and formal manner. Anjay smiled at her. "Wonderful to hear. Meet us at the Front Gates after lunch. My father will escort us to meet the Minister."
He nodded his head in a sort of bow and began to back away from her before he turned towards her again. "I know I don't need to tell you, but I would be remiss to not bring it up at all... the likelihood that the press will get a few photos of our outing is high. I know that you'll dress appropriately so as to not embarrass the Minister or yourself."
With that, he turned towards the Ravenclaw table and approached Jaxen. Again, he had known of Jaxen just by nature of the fact that they had been sharing classes together for the past five years, but Anjay would have never really considered them close friends. Still, he felt no anxiety or hesitation approaching him at his table as he ate.
Anjay saw him eating with Mathias, someone he was closer to than Jaxen. "Good morning Jax," Anjay called out to him, bold enough to use his shortened nickname that only his friends used. "You've been invited to join myself, Elizabeth Doren, and the Minister for tea this afternoon. Would you like to come?"
"What sort of things?" Gerald continued to query, turning to follow his gaze. Spotting Grace, he waved for a Moment, before looking back to Jamie.
"Do... Do you want to talk about it?" He asked slowly. Was it Something He did? "I'm sorry if Rook made a Mess of your Bed, by the way" It almost definitely didn't happen, but it was good to check, regardless.

Arthur was glad he had a good friend like Elara to listen to him. Even if she didn't know what the crest meant. At least Arthur would have more time today than he would normally to look in the library for it. If he could turn the pages without his hands falling off. He picked up an apple for later, just in case.
"D-" Arthur was about to ask Elara a question when Sophia started talking about Quidditch. Arthur didn't want to try out this year, as he had failed so miserably in the previous years. He would just be embarrassing himself if he tried again, but he could see why Elara was so excited. "Not me." he said under his breath.

Lindsey smiled at Tom as he spoke about being excited and she pulled herself up and turned fully to him. She wanted so badly to go home for the festival, to watch the traditions of the highlands with her family, but if she could do a few things here, she would be happy. The bonfires that the druids did at their community, their sunrise traditions... The pranking and mask making... Oh!
"Do ye want to go down to the pumpkin patch and get a small pumpkin or two? There is a tradition where we carve a face on it to scare away the evil spirits." She had so much stuff she wanted to do after homework, but some of it was easy, like making a mask. She had made her mask over summer and it was in her trunk.
Jamie looked at Gerald as he asked, then glanced over at Grace when the boy waved at her. "Well, she might be one of the things..." Looking down at his food, he sighed as he really wished that he could just go home, but that wasn't happening any time soon, not until Christmas and he hoped he could do every muggle thing possible.
Pushing his leftover food away, he grabbed an apple and put it in his bag for a mid-morning snack and then looked at Gerald as he apologized for his owl.
"Oh, he is fine... I just... I miss home... Dad and I liked to do stuff together, like fixing things and going to sport events... Being here... It is so different." It was interesting, growing up both wizard and muggle, but he really liked how things were simple in the muggle world. Or maybe, he thought it was simple... Other might have thought differently.
"Oh... Want to do stuff with Me today then?" He was expecting mail to arrive for Him and Grace today, but otherwise, he could spend time with Jamie.
"Uh, do you like Mysteries?" He pondered. Maybe if he did, he could show him some of the weird things about the school? "Also, I'm planning to join the Quidditch Tryouts today, if you want to as well."
There was so much to think about, but Gerald wasn't sure if he could be a fun friend for Jamie. Where was Ryan and Toby?

Jamie looked at Gerald and felt his heart lighten a little at being invited and he nodded at the question. "Sure... Other than Homework, I don't have anything going on." He said, using his spoon to play with the food he no longer had interest in eating.
At the question about mysteries, he shrugged. "I mean, they seem like fun." He had never really gotten into stories, if that is what Gerald was referring to. "And I'll come and watch... Quidditch just isn't my thing... I like more rugby." He said, straightening up and wondering if his father would send any more parcels with the latest results.
"Rugby?" He thought about it. They had similar rules, if he remembered correctly, but one had a golden ball and brooms. Gerald had faint memories of seeing the game being played, but he was way too young back then to actually remember anything specific.
"Do you play Rugby, or just watch it with your Father?" Maybe if there was enough people interested, Jamie could make his own Game of Rubgy here at Hogwarts.
