Sitting at his table, Gerald leaned over a piece of parchment, writing as he nibbled on a bread roll. He had to write a letter to this O'Klore person, in order to send it out by tonight. Hopefully they could help both him and Grace out.
Sighing, he looked up. He had so much to write, but what was too much. He had to figure this out, but probably later. There was food to be eaten.
Looking around, he kept eating his roll as he glanced at Grace. Was she having more luck with this?
Rose smiled and just listened to them talk as she ate her dinner. Rose had been feeling a little down the past couple of days but after going to the library and talking with Mathias she felt a lot better. Rose hoped that she and he might continue to talk more, she liked him, he had a big brother vibe about him.
Tom's heart started to flutter when Lindsey agreed to come with him. There was something strange going on here... he felt himself getting excited, almost giddy, at the idea of being able to spend some special time alone with Lindsey. It all felt very exciting, the two of them sneaking away from dinner together to go to the owlry...
Tom had to face the reality that he might be experiencing his first crush on a girl, which was strange because up until a few weeks ago he still considered girls gross. To be fair, he probably considered most girls gross today, too, but not Lindsey. She was nice and sweet and smart and cute and...
Tom felt his cheeks flush and embarrassed himself, pushing the thoughts down in the deep recesses of his mind. He choked down some more food and gave her a bashful nod. "Let's head out then, you lead the way," he said with a smile.
Food vanished from the tables. Delicious desserts appeared in its place, tempting various students into lingering whereas others were too tired to bother. Most of the staff left the hall, along with many older students concerned with the amount of homework due the following day.

If Meav had answered, Amara must have missed it. She'd grown bored during the later part of dinner, tuning out of the pointless chatter around her. When the last of her meal vanished, she was actually relieved as it gave her an excuse to leave the noisy hall.
She first retrieved a silk cloth from one of her pockets. Amara used it to secure a slice of cake, then snatched some tarts that looked rather tempting. With her treats saved for later, she gave the Slytherins around her an unimpressed look then rose from her seat.
Without a word to anyone, Amara left the hall. She eyed Filch and Mrs Norris as she went - keeping her distance from both, of course. There would be plenty of time to have a more interesting and private conversation with her housemates in the common room anyway. It was practically a tradition at this point for the Slytherins to gather there after meals. Amara liked to think she helped contribute to that ongoing event.

Grace finished her part of the letter just as dinner finished and desserts replaced the dishes. She grinned as she checked it over, then decided to approach Gerald. She noticed her brother at the same table, well, that was obvious. They were in the same house after all.
“Hey, Gerald!” Grace greeted her friend, looking a little at the other people still at the table. “Here, I wrote part of the letter to O’Klore.” she grinned, showing it to Gerald. She was rather proud of herself. She felt like she had left just enough space for Gerald to write some letter, too.
Dear Kahlin O’Klore,
I’m Grace, and I’m a first year at Hogwarts! Me and my friend Gerald like learning more about the school, and we heard about a legend of a creature, so we were curious to know more.
Rose sat at the table and looked at the dessert debating whether or not to have any, she did have some herbology homework to get down but she also knew that she would just do it tonight. After much inner debate she chose to take a small dessert and then go do her homework after.
Ruby stared at a plate of cupcakes, trying to decide if she really wanted some. They did look rather tasty and they'd certainly make a good bedtime snack. She very rarely went to bed without having some kind of small snack beforehand.
Wrapping up a piece of chicken she'd saved for Skittles, Rubes plucked a couple of cakes from the plate and headed off to the common room.
He read Grace's Letter, realising he had written the wrong thing. "I wrote one as well, do you think we can combine them?"
Holding his out to Grace, had messy handwriting and quite a few crossings out.
Dear Kalhin O'Klore
I'm a First Year at Hogwarts, and my Friend Grace and I found a creature that was said to have been tamed by a Fruit that Helga Hufflepuff had. We were wondering if you knew where we could find more of that fruit around Hogwarts?

Lindsey smiled at Tom before getting up and looking at Rose with a smile. "See you back at the commonroom." Grabbing some desert, she followed Tom when he got up. Her heart was racing in her chest, though she couldn't quite figure out why. Anytime she was around Tom, her heart felt ready to race in circles for some reason.

Arthur stood up when the desserts replaced the food on the table, already dreading his detention. He wasn’t sure if dessert could make it better, but he grabbed a small cookie to eat on his way down to detention. Maybe it would improve his mood, just a little bit.
He imagined what Professor Snape would have him do. Probably something with cauldrons, Arthur thought, as that’s where his major mistake was. Or maybe he would have to go find hidden ingredients to help supply Professor Snape’s stock. He suspected that it would not be the best time to ask to get his Potions kit done, as much as he wanted to.
With dinner over, Jamie grabbed a piece of chocolate dessert and headed to the tower where Ravenclaw common room was located. It would be nice to relax and stealing a glance towards the direction of his sister, he sighed before leaving. Maybe it was him, but he felt out of place now when it came to Grace. Maybe it was because she enjoyed magic and he really had no interest at all.

Grace grinned at Gerald, reading his letter. "How about we mention the name of the...gerunderus? No...it's the gerodenus!" she said. The name of the creature often escaped her. There were probably tons of creatures at Hogwarts. She only knew this one, but if O'Klore was a magical creatures expert, like Grace thought, then they would have to be more specific.
Grace grabbed a new parchment, her handwriting smudging just a little bit as she wrote the following note.
Dear Kahlin O'Klore,
We're Grace and Gerald, first years at Hogwarts! We like learning about the school, and we found out about a legend of a creature called the gerodenus said to be tamed by a fruit that Helga Hufflepuff used. We were wondering if you knew where we could find that fruit around Hogwarts? (or anywhere else!)
Thank you! Grace and Gerald When she was done, she turned to Gerald, "Do you think that's okay?" Quickly, she spoke again, "And d'you think you could use your owl to send it?" Grace was thrilled, and she thought that maybe, if they sent the letter that night, they could have a response from Kahlin in the morning.

Jade huffed, crossing her arms in disappointment. She'd hoped Anjay might know more or had some big and exciting theories to help solve the mystery. It was still really strange that a highly-trained Auror like that would just... vanish.
'Do you think he's bad, then?' Jade wondered. 'I mean, have you ever met him or anything? Did he seem like someone who'd just abandon his duties like that? Is loyalty not sacred anymore...' It was hard to resist, as the situation had caught her curiosity and she yearned to know what was going on. She at least accepted that Anjay didn't know much at the moment, but maybe he could play a role in helping find out?
Jade was a bit lost in thought during dessert, still thinking of theories or making a mental list of all the things they knew so far - which, unfortunately, wasn't a lot.
'Shall we move this to the common room?' Jade offered to her nearby classmates, rising from her seat with a cupcake in hand. 'Maybe grab some marshmallows too. It's been a while since we've got together to fireplace-roast some. I bet our sticks are still where we hid them last year.'

Dessert vanished from the tables, leaving everything vacant and clean. It was now curfew. Remaining students began to leave the hall, as they were expected to be safely inside their house areas or headed there now.
The staff had already vacated by then, though Filch and Mrs Norris had no intention of leaving their spot - until convinced otherwise by Professor Rivera.
