Lucas spotted Filch before he'd gotten close enough to be hissed at by the caretaker's demented cat. He grimaced, knowing he'd have to pass by them to get into the hall. Were they looking for someone? Well, he hoped it'd be Thatcher. He briefly considered shoving someone towards Filch as a cover, but Lucas instead just briskly walked through the doorway and headed to the Slytherin table.
He spotted some younger years talking nearby, and avoided them. Lucas sat by himself, always keeping a seat available for Amara if she fancied sitting with better company than what was usually available. He glanced at Elizabeth, who was within conversation range, yet didn't bother with her. She was weird, and they hadn't talked much over the years so he didn't see the point in being friendly.
There was a bowl of fruit in front of him, so Lucas grabbed an apple as he always did during meals. The habit had only grown since that horrible glitter prank, as he never knew for sure if he'd get to eat as much as he'd like during dinner.
It wasn't until after he'd started eating that Lucas considered Amara might prefer to be closer to Lindsey, since they had some things to discuss. But then again, there'd be plenty of time for that sort of thing in the common room after. It would be a bit of an odd topic for a mealtime, which was not as private as they'd like it to be.

Arthur gave Elara a thumbs up when she sat next to him, he totally agreed, ”Who knows? Maybe Professor Snape will figure out a way to make my day last 25 hours.” Arthur was pretty sure that wasn’t possible, so he was mostly joking, but he wouldn’t put it past Professor Snape to learn how to manipulate time just so Arthur understood the dire consequences of using a cleaning charm on his cauldron. Or was it that he was too hasty at the end? Probably both.
He reached over to mop up the orange juice with a napkin. That much, he could do properly, ”I’m sure it will be fine.” Arthur smiled miserably as he took a bite of his food. Swallowing, he said, ”Still, it’s a bit scary to still be getting detention as a fourth year.” he would bet that Elara had never gotten more punishment than ten points from Hufflepuff, if that. She seemed good at everything.
”What are you reading?” he asked, looking at the monster book Elara had placed down on the table earlier. He was sure a firstie must now be orbiting Earth, by the looks of the heavy book. From his knowledge, they didn’t have much reading to catch up on, but he’d seen Elara with quite a few books over the years.
Rubes wandered into the Great Hall and settled down for dinner. As usual, she was expecting a delicious feast full of her favourite foods. She helped herself to a little bit of everything and started to eat.
"How is everybody this evening?Did anyone do or learn anythingexciting today?"

Grace looked up to see Toby. She smiled, “I’m writing a letter to Kahlin O’Klore.” she said, holding it up. She wasn’t sure if she should tell Toby about her current adventure, but she thought he was probably trustworthy enough to at least know the name of the person she was writing it to. She hadn’t really heard the name before, and she doubted Toby would know it.
She was about to ask him how his afternoon was when Ryan stopped by. She waved at him, knowing that they had a bit of a weird lunch together. Hopefully Ryan still thought she was his friend. Had he ever thought that? She thought about it a little, and then thought that she remembered Ryan grabbing a few ingredients earlier that year with her and Gerald. Maybe he still didn’t have all five. Or he was helping Toby. Anyways, he left to go sit by...her brother? Grace waved at Jamie. They hadn’t really been talking a lot since they got to Hogwarts.
She looked over at Toby, “Finding ingredients, then?” she asked, “I had a lot of fun with mine.” she smiled. She still hadn’t made a Potion yet. She should get on that, but she didn’t really have one she wanted to make. Not desperately, at least, and she wasn’t sure if she even had enough ingredients. But the idea of throwing stuff in a cauldron and getting other stuff was really cool.

Lindsey smiled when Tom joined her, though she could feel her cheeks burn a little. He was so cute, but she had to keep herself from going completely off. "Hey Tom," She said as she grabbed her goblet and it filled with some juice for her to enjoy. It was nice to have more friends, though she didn't know exactly why her heart raced a little when Tom was around.
When Avery sat down, she smiled at her friend. "Hey Avery." It was nice to see her friend, even if they had been together most of the afternoon. Lindsey really enjoyed spending time with her, even if she was different personality wise. Differences were good and Lindsey liked it a lot.
"Did ye find any more ingredients?" Her highland accent was thick as she looked over at Tom, wondering if he had managed to claim his kit yet or was still working on it.
Amelia sat quietly, thinking about the events of the day and if she could have done anything else to avoid having to make a deal with Lucas. She could have just ignored the professor's request? Right? No, she had started helping and she had wanted to finish helping. No, she would deal with Mardling at a later date. The sudden appearance of someone made her jump and she smiled when Anjay joined her.
"I thought it was a little fun, I enjoyed casting on Jacob, though I don't think he quite enjoyed it." She said as she looked up and around for Jacob and didn't see him quite yet. In her search for her other friends, she did notice Tobias come in and exhaled slowly before she rubbed the back of her neck and took a bite of her food. At the mention of anything interesting, she shrugged. "Ingredient hunting for that blasted potion kit... Nothing special..." Though, the next part was directed towards Anjay and she felt her own interest perk towards him as well.
When Jade arrived, Amelia glanced up at the feline in question and shrugged. "Knowing those two, someone probably stepped too close to them." Amelia did not exactly hate the man, she didn't understand his contempt of the world though.
As he ate, he glanced up at just the right moment to see his sister come in. She was rather important for her house now, landing on the Quidditch team. Granted, he was happy for her, it just wasn't his thing at all and he looked back down at his food and went to eating a little more. An older student had walked by, one that Jamie didn't really know and then he was joined by Ryan Barrow, one of the kids in his dorm.
Looking up at the fellow Ravenclaw, Jamie gulped and then gave the guy a half smile before he said anything. "Hey Ryan." He said, feeling he needed to be a little friendly, even if he was at a place he didn't exactly want to be. It was tough, being away from home. He really wanted to be with his dad, they could be doing stuff together.

His arms and legs felt stiff and fragile like uncooked spaghetti after dragging all those pumpkins to their place of need. His stomach growled angrily as he took in the first whiff of dinner.
He contemplated following Ryan to the Gryffindor table to talk to Toby about the thing however found it best to stay behind and not to draw too much attention to them. One Ravenclaw at the Gryffindor table would suffice.
Instead he moved slowly towards his own table and sat down with Ryan as his friend returned to have dinner together.
He gave the boy already seated there a smile and a small "Hey" as greeting yet left it at that since he did not know his name for sure. He was feeling a "J"-name but he could be mistaken.
Joe helped himself to some chicken and grabbed an apple for later, feeling he may need it and made a non-chalant movement to Ryan and their J-named dorm mate.
"How's it going?", he asked.
He was in the mood for chatter as he could feel a nervous ball in the pit of his stomach considering the night drew nearer and with it his first ever contious move against school rules.
Casting a quick glance towards the Hufflepuff table he found his cousin in conversation with the boy he had seen her with before. He hoped her friend would keep her occupied enough now.
Meav stomped into the Great Hall, still fuming. She made a beeline for the Slytherin table and plopped down on the nearest seat the the doors, muttering "Unbelievable," under her breath. Meav quickly snatched an apple from the table. She considered taking another one, but restrained herself as it would have looked bad in her opinion.
The Slytherin nodded to some of the people she knew in passing and put some potatoes, meat and assortments of vegetables. She had a bit of resistance eating it when she remembered the rude house-elves that prepared it, but figured since they already did it, she might as well give them more work by dirtying the plates.
Tom noticed that Lindsey's cheeks looked a little flushed. Was she coming down with a fever? He certainly hoped not. Until she inquired about his potion kit he had almost forgotten that they had spent the morning looking for spiders down in the dungeons... his Quidditch try out and the encounter with the cat had completely consumed his thoughts.
"Nope, I've still two ingredients to go," he said, not feeling too upset about it. He could finish up collecting his ingredients sometime tomorrow and then report back to Professor Snape. He'd already waited four years; waiting one more day wouldn't hurt. He shoveled some vegetables and grilled meat onto a plate, ready to dive in and begin eating.
"I do have some other good news, though- I've been made Seeker for our Quidditch team!" He wasn't the type to brag or bring undue attention upon himself, but he was really rather excited and proud about his accomplishment, and hoped that his housemates would be excited for him, too.
The Gryffindor table began to fill and Anjay did his best to greet as many people as possible and engage them in conversation. Anjay was really proud to be a Gryffindor and proud of the people he called his housemates- they were, on the whole, impressive and kind people. Fun as well. He really enjoyed mealtimes as he got to chat with them all outside of the stresses of classrooms and potion kits and everything else Hogwarts threw at them.
"Nothing too interesting, no," he responded to Jade. "That charms lesson gave me a bit of trouble, but I think I got the spell mastered pretty well in the end there." He took a piece of bread from the table and buttered it liberally, popping it into his mouth and savoring the flavour. He chewed as he pondered Jade's question about the missing Auror.
The truth was that his parents hadn't told him as much as he had wanted them to, despite his constant questioning. He knew there were reasons they couldn't divulge such information, even though Anjay would have never blabbed to people at school about official Ministry business. Sometimes he felt his parents didn't trust him as much as he wanted them to.
"Err, a bit," he replied cautiously, hoping not to get caught in a lie. He didn't want to admit that everything he knew of the situation had come from rumors around the castle and his morning reading of The Prophet. "Nothing I can really share though. You know, Ministry business," he said, satisfied that such a response would impress Jade while also discourage her from asking too many other specific questions.
Mason's learned that now was dinner time and as he entered the hall, he saw all the students feasting; students having a great time from the looks of it. But there were a few that he looked around having dinner with other students from different houses. He had thought it was strange that they would do that and was a solidarity kind of thing. Every house for himself. kinds of foods. They all looked delicious with the most top quality. After observing the delicious food, he decided what he was going to take and help his stomach go to full capacity.
He sat by the end of the Slytherin house table by himself getting a piece of pie, chicken, and grapes and started eating his pie and opening his charm book, and while reading and eating, he blocked out the noises that were happening around him.

Lindsey had a hard time focusing on things, but managed to look at him and a few others who walked past them at the table. Dinner time was getting underway and people were enjoying themselves. As he mentioned he only needed two, she smiled and took a bite.
"Ye should get ye're herbology kit... I got most of mine from plantin' stuff in the greenhouse," She smiled before she took another bite and looked over at him. "I got me kit this afternoon." Lindsey was a little excited about it. "Did ye get some nuts? Um... There are some wee feathers in the owlry." Lindsey wanted to help where she could and tried to think of other places.
"Ye did?" Her voice might have raised a little, she couldn't help but smile at the news. That was great, to have a seeker for the team now. "Congratulations and welcome to the team."
Rose had been so caught up with writing her parents and reading her book that she completely missed that it was time for dinner. As she quickly ran through the halls leading to the Great Hall she just prayed that it wouldn't be too awkward for her to show up late.
Rose got to the Great Hall and quickly flattened her clothes out and took a breath before opening the door and walking to the Slytherin table, sitting next to Lindsey. "Oh my gosh, I can't believe I almost missed dinner."
Jamie looked at the other one coming towards them and watched as he sat down. Maybe it was just Jamie, but he felt something in the air... Maybe it was just the excitement about Halloween? Yes, that had to be it, right? Looking down the table, he looked down at his plate, eating some before hearing a question from one of the other boys. Joe he thought the boys name was.
"Well I think... Busy day?" Jamie asked as he sat there, looking up a little from his plate. He wished Owls came at night, but he knew that was a morning thing and he knew that probably wouldn't change because one, homesick Ravenclaw wanted mail to come anytime.
