Sinead had been listening intently to the discussion with Tom and Lindsey. She even offered a polite brief smile to the angry looking Avery who also joined them and to the young first year she had seen a couple of times around the common room. She had been so absorbed in the conversation, that she jumped slightly when Amara spoke up again, not sounding impressed or looking it either for that matter.
Upon seeing Amara's expression, Sinead blanched slightly and then warily spoke up. "I would have been at try-outs but I got cornered a few days before by some stupid 5th year lions and they shoved me into the lake. As result I ended up with a nasty bout of flu, so I was in bed ill on the day of try outs. If you want to check, just ask any of the 4th years in our house, they can confirm I was ill that day.....believe me I am severely disappointed I had to miss it. Just another thing for my family to taunt me about if they ever hear of it." The young brunette said sounding a little upset, the disappointment and annoyance clear in her tone of voice when she spoke.

Jade thought Amy had weird ways of passing time, but decided to keep those blunt opinions to herself for once. She glanced towards the scene at the doorway, wondering what was going on yet not caring enough to pay much attention. She listened to Amy, yet had nothing to comment on. She'd expected a bit more excitement for the arrival of a shiny new broomstick, but maybe that'd happen once Amy actually got her hands on it?
'Thanks for the heads up,' Jade said. Not that it would be the strangest thing in the world to find a pumpkin on on a bed in their dorm, it was always nice to know it was intentional and not something to be suspicious of. 'I actually need to get a few things before class. I'll see you then? Or after, whenever.' She gave Amy a smile, then stuffed some food in her mouth quickly. She then snatched up several rolls and headed to the exit.
'You're blocking the door. Better move before Seabrook or someone else annoying decides to leave.' Jade frowned as she found the group still gathered at the doorway. 'And you're missing lunch. No one wants to hear you lot complaining about being hungry later because you were too busy doing... whatever this is about. Here.' She handed out rolls to Jacob and the two first years. The Hufflepuff girl seemed to have left her house table so probably got to eat. Jacob was her priority, as he was rather insufferable when hungry.
With that peace offering, Jade made her way through the group and left the hall.

Jacob tried not to laugh or tease when the two first years ended up in a compromising position. There was nothing scandalous about it, but Jacob was a teenage boy and far too immature. He couldn't remember if 11 year olds thought that way at all, so his brilliant jokes probably wouldn't hit the mark anyway. He pretended not to have noticed what happened, to spare them the extra embarrassment.
Jacob shrugged when Elara joined them. Then a frown grew on his face as he looked back to the Slytherin table. So that boy had caused trouble? Probably a 3rd year, by the looks of it. What kind of jerk goes around shoving people for no reason? A Slytherin, that's who.
Then Jade arrived like a food-bringing saviour. He gladly accepted the rolls and grinned, giving her a bow of gratitude. 'Why thank ye, mi'lady,' he said. It was without Jacob's usual flair of borderline-flirty smile, but his words were more to annoy her as Jade wasn't one to be too impressed by his theatrics. Shocking, indeed.
'The lady's right though,' Jacob said after a bit bite of bread. 'We should focus on lunch. Last thing you want it to have classes on an empty stomach. See, I am responsible.' The last bit was aimed at Elara, who Jacob barely knew yet had heard of from Sophia. He gave her a cheeky grin, then stood straighter in a mock "professional" pose.
But everyone was okay now, so there were more important things. Jacob made a beeline for the Gryffindor table, sitting across from Amy as he began shoveling food onto his plate. 'Poor sods,' he chuckled when glancing at a timetable of a younger student beside him who'd have the misfortune of attending Potions with Snape next.
Killed by Devin Kudosen by act of the Killing Curse. June #24, RPG year 1 -- he was a 5th year Gryffindor. Jacob died to save his best friend, Luckett Langford.

Amara was briefly distracted by noticing the volatile 3rd year was injured again. She'd have questioned it in case there was someone who needed hexing, but Amara was busy and had little time to give younger students right now. It was also why the 1st year nearby went as ignored as Lindsey.
She was finished lunch but had no desire to get in the middle of whatever commotion was going on near the door. As tempting was it was to rile Thatcher up again. It could wait, and the Great Hall was no place for such a confrontation.
Back to the matter at hand, Amara was more inclined to believe the Blackwood girl than the boy. He was far too nervous and something about it seemed a little suspicious, yet people were afraid of Amara and knew she didn't tolerate idiocy so she couldn't be certain if he was being untruthful or just nervous in general. She let is pass, as his excuse seemed plausible enough. She wouldn't be surprised if Thatcher was among those to blame.
Sinead's story was worrisome and less likely, but Amara believed it was the truth. Her reaction lined up with it. Still, missing tryouts wasn't something she'd forget any time soon.
Amara grit her teeth at Hanna's too-friendly comment. She'd have to remind them who was boss and that being on the team didn't make her their friends, yet she was sat near two members of her team and two potentials. She had to be smart about this.
'Yes,' Amara answered Hanna, no doubt to their surprise by the honesty of it. 'You earned your position. Don't get an ego about it though and give me reason to retract it.'
She rolled her eyes at further comments about Hanna's duel-roles. Amara wanted to remind them how stupid it was to talk as if Hanna could actually play two roles at once. It seemed to be some sort of social banter though so she ignored it and focused on the two potential players again.
'Fine. There are still positions available - Seeker included,' Amara said. 'I have some free time this afternoon. This is your last chance though, so if you want to join the team then now's the time to show up and prove yourself. I have to check things with Professor Snape first, but I doubt there'd be an issue. No one's booked the pitch for today, on account of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw tryouts being cancelled.' She smirked at that, as now she and her team would get to make use of thefree slot.
Amara shot a glance at the first year. 'And you. Any good on a broom and wanting to try out? Be there if you are.' She doubted a first year would impress her, but Amara knew that wasn't a hard rule. She herself was quite young when joining. And she had exactly 3 positions available so it might just work out perfectly.
She didn't ask the girl why she hadn't been at tryouts either though, willing to be lenient as first years didn't always know they could try out or had the guts to do it. If the girl didn't show up though, Amara didn't care. She needed good and dedicated players.
'I'll be waiting at the pitch this afternoon, as soon as I'm done with class,' Amara explained more clearly. One could never be too sure, since a lot of students tended to be stupid and needed things spelled out to them. 'If you you want to try out but don't show up this time, I wouldn't recommend showing your face in the common room later.' With that threat in her tone, Amara got up from her seat and headed to the door.
By the time she reached it, the wasn't a blockage and she was almost disappointed. Amara supposed it was their lucky day, as she was in no mood to deal with them. She continued on and headed towards the dungeons to pick up her necessary things for class.
Wooah, food! And a pretty girl! Granted she had been more interested in talking to the boy, that had come to Ben’s rescue.
When a pretty girl gives you food, you shall endeavour to have lunch!, was likely said by one of the many poets out there at some point.
The slimsy slimy Slytherin all but forgotten he yelled a quick “Later, Broccoli!” over to Joe, nodded in the general direction of the older girl that had joined them – a cousin of Joe’s, he remembered vaguely - and slinked over to the Gryffindor table to grab something to go with his roll.
Food disappeared from the tables. Hufflepuffs were the least enthusiastic, as they'd have had tryouts that afternoon if it hadn't been cancelled.
Staff and students began to leave the hall. 1st and 3rd years were the only ones not in a rush, as they have an entire afternoon free from classes or school-related obligations. 7th years did as well, yet as NEWT students they always kept busy regardless of what the schedule said.
Class threads are now available. If your character has a class, you must post there at least once to show their attendance before you can also have free time.
When people started to leave the hall and she noticed quite irritably that lunch was coming to an end and that the food would no longer remain on the table, she turned her annoyed glare onto her younger cousin- who rather unwisely was the only one who remained at her side.
"You've missed lunch, tried to start a fight and made me miss lunch" she told Joe, letting him know that he wasn't convincing anyone that he'd simply been 'in the wrong place at the wrong time'. She expected more of him, she didn't expect him to start a brawl in the middle of lunch and then lie to her about it.
"I've gotta get to class, you should go... Do something productive" she'd definitely be writing to his parents that afternoon to tell them about his actions- maybe then he'd learn how to behave appropriately. Heading out the nearby door, she hurried to get to class on time, only sparing a second to see if Joe was loitering.

Toby continued to eat his lunch as Ryan spoke, the idea that he didn't have any Ravenclaw friends other than Gerald was a little strange- but maybe Ryan reserved his friendship for only the people he really liked? That mad Toby feel good about starting this friendship. When Ryan said that they were friends now, he smiled- helping himself to more sandwiches to hide the fact of how happy he was about this development. Starting the day, he certainly didn't imagine that he'd have a new friend in Ravenclaw of all places. "I don't give up on friends either, I'm glad we're friends!" he announced rather loudly, getting a few stares from nearby Ravenclaws who were trying to enjoy their lunch. He didn't notice Ryan's anxiety over calling him Toby, why should he? That was his name after all and anyone was free to call him by it.
Looking between Ryan and Grace, he wondered if they were already friends- obviously they'd spent some time together, involving spiders? "Woah! That's really cool Ryan! Can I see it?" he asked Grace, although that could wait until they were back in their common room, he didn't want to freak Ryan out if he was scared of the spider- he got the impression that the Ravenclaw hadn't enjoyed the experience.
Managing to grab a couple rolls just before the food disappeared from the table, he offered one to Ryan "Oh yeah! No class this afternoon!" nothing made the Gryffindor happier than free time in which to do whatever he wanted "I don't have any plans... We could do something together?" he suggested, he'd been thinking of starting on his potions kit that afternoon but if Ryan had other plans then he didn't mind tagging along.

Joe somewhat shrunk when yet another older student joined them- only to straighten himself right back up when she handed him a roll. His eyes lit up and he managed a shy smile and a small "Thank you" in her direction.
So far she had been the kindest Gryffindor he met.
He looked after her and the older Gryffindor boy as they left for their table.
When Ben took the chance to leave aswell, he once again managed to cast him a dirty look upon being called 'Broccoli' yet again.
His heart sank however when he looked back at his cousin. He should have known his little brawl would not go unnoticed by her.
"I did not start it!", he protested but she cut him off.
Joe blinked at her, suddenly feeling very stupid.
"I'm sorry, Ellie", he whispered as she turned to leave. He watched her hurry away and a wave of shame and indicissiveness hit him. He had not meant for her to miss lunch!
He just hoped she would not stay angry at him and write his parents.

Ryan ducked his head and tried to hide a smile at Grace's enthusiasm. Was he brave and awesome for holding that spider? He couldn't remember much of the event other than how horrible it felt to cup his hands around such a wriggly, prickly-legged spider. He shuddered at the memory of it, and was horrified at the idea of Grace getting it out to show Toby.
But Toby thought he was cool so that's what mattered.
It warmed his heart that Toby seemed happy to be friends with him. It was such a strange concept and experience for Ryan, but he was starting to get used to it as most of his classmates were really nice to him. Having Gerald and Toby just made everything better - even the scary stuff. Well, kind of.
Ryan usually dreaded no having classes, as he still felt relatively new to Hogwarts and didn't know how to occupy his time there. Gerald was a great friend, but a busy one - he was usually off doing weird or adventurous things either solo or with Grace. That was cool, but Ryan couldn't keep up with it. Toby seemed like he'd enjoy those things too, but his pace was a bit more Ryan's style.
'Well, I was just going to get some more ingredients for my personal kit.' Ryan shrugged, nibbling at some bread. Then lunch ended and people started leaving the hall. He anxiously wanted to head out too, but had to remind himself it was okay - he didn't have classes to get to. 'Did Snape let you use the lab too? Or maybe you could ask him, then we can go look for stuff together?' Ryan shrugged, starting at his now-emptied plate.
He had no idea yet what sort of things Toby did like, and hoped his suggestion of hunting down ingredients together didn't sound lame.
He glanced at Grace, wondering if he'd mind if she joined them. Ryan didn't know her very well yet either and he'd rather focus on one new friend at a time until he got used to them all. But was he bring rude and excluding her? He had no idea what to do, though did assume she'd have stuff to do of her own anyway - like Gerald.
He stayed quiet, seeing how things went before he made up his mind. Though deep down he secretly hoped it would be just him and Toby.
Entering the Great Hall, Rubes slipped into the first available seat at the Hufflepuff table, but was disappointed to see that lunch was over. She'd have to pay a visit to the kitchens and see if she could get a bite to eat.
Going back out into the main hall, Rubes headed for the basement and towards the bright and colourful kitchens, hoping the house-elves would provide her with something to keep her hungry stomach happy.

Mackenzie was enjoying her lunch, she was happily eating what she had selected but a little company was never something she saw as a bad thing. Heck - she liked to have some conversation, someone to talk to instead of sitting quietly and eating on her own - that was lonely.
Seeing a familiar face, well she was happy to start a little talking with Charlotte. Kenzie smiled, nodding her head as the other girl spoke her name, "That's me! You can call me Kenzie if you want. Mostly adults call me Mackenzie... or if someone is upset with me." She spoke quietly, tilting her head as she thought about it, very few people used her full name actually.
"I'm good too." she brightened as she answered, leaning forward slightly as the food disappeared, small talk was weird - something mostly adults did, but - it was a start at least right? Oh but she had an idea, maybe Charlotte would be okay with it, "Oh, lunch is done - what are you doing this afternoon? I'll catch you for dinner - okay?"

Arthur gulped nervously when Lunch ended. Potions with Professor Snape, what a way to spend an afternoon! Though maybe he could go about finally getting his potions kit...and he did have the seed he had planted earlier that he needed to check on, as well. He sighed, as it looked like he would have quite the busy afternoon.
He got up, grabbing his bag and triple-checking that his potions textbook was inside, recalling a moment from last year when he had forgotten it and received a bit of Snape's wrath, as the other third years at the time had joked, especially the Gryffindors. He always wondered why Snape seemed to be more strict than the other professors.
Arthur hurried past the remains of the doorway group and the rest of the crowd that was pushing outwards. He could probably get to class on time without rushing, but he didn't want to risk Professor Snape taking points away from his house.
Altough he wasn't intending to be late to lunch, Gerald had spent most of the break trying to find his way back to the Ravenclaw Dorms. In a School like this, he was going to risk damaging his Comic Books, and realising he had accidentally brought his newest editions, he had to keep them safe.
Finally making it to the Great hall, he collapsed into his chair, before grabbing two apples, and putting one in his bag for later. Sighing relief, Gerald was glad he was having a Free session. If it wasn't for the Monster hunt, he could relax.
Speaking of Monster hunting, when he noticed Grace, he sat up again and waved to her. "Hey Grace! Over here!" Nodding, he then spoke in a calmer voice. "So I was thinking, perhaps it might be better to talk to someone like Hagrid about monsters. He's probably got more experience and all."

Grace nodded at Toby's question the instant she saw Gerald waving over to her. "I'll show you later, yeah?" she said, still thinking of the blue spider in the pumpkin juice bottle. Besides, she got the sense that she was still intruding into the boys' stuff. "See you guys around." she smiled, waving as she walked over to Gerald. She heard a bit of them discussing some plans, and wondered if Toby would also manage to get Ryan to hold a spider, but quickly refocused on Gerald.
"Oh!" Grace said when she heard Gerald's plan, "I was thinking more like library books, but Hagrid sounds like a much better idea." That was why Grace was glad they were working together. She didn't always think of things that Gerald did, and he had some good ideas. "Let's go, then!" It was a bit rushed, but Grace wanted to solve the monster's identity as quick as possible. Lunch was over, anyways.
