As lunch began, several Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws still discussed or complained about the delay of their Quidditch try-outs. Erik Javior's retirement was also among the hot topics of the day as students gathered in the Great Hall to eat.
The Professors kept mostly to themselves, less keen on the chatter and looking a bit tired. A few students were able to overhear prefects whispering that some were up rather early that day though no one knew why or there was anything unusual about it.
Schedule Reminder(afternoon) 4th years - Potions 5th years - Charms

Jade wasn't in any particular rush for lunch, but she'd gotten bored and decided she may as well head in that direction. She hadn't met up with Amy since breakfast, but that was fine. Their plans hadn't been absolute and both seemed to have gotten sidetracked with time.
She headed to the Gryffindor table, a little disappointed that she was so early to the meal. That didn't mesh well with her reputation, but oh well - she was hungry enough to allow it. Jade didn't care much for the Quidditch-whatever everyone kept focusing on, though she did wonder where Tiana was and if she was busy with that sort of thing.
Making a simple sandwich, Jade got comfortable and kept an eye on those entering the hall - looking for anyone familiar or who she could pass the time with. Her friends were preferable, of course, but she wouldn't say no to company in general as she still felt rather bored. She did glance at the schedule though, glad that at least it wasn't them who had Potions today.

Ryan hurried into the Great Hall, not knowing how long he'd stood there in shock after Herbology and Toby had agreed to be his friend. To sit with him, even! His haste cost him though; Ryan yelled as he fell forward onto the floor, having tripped over either his loosen shoelaces or the hem of his robes. Why did wizards have to wear robes anyway? It had to be just so they could look cool.
He'd thrown his hands out to brace himself, but still smacked his cheek on the cold floor. Several around him either got out of the way, annoyed to have to walk around him, while others laughed and pointed. His face and ears bright red, Ryan quickly picked himself up and fled to the Ravenclaw table.
Forgetting he was meant to sit somewhere visible for Toby to easily spot him, Ryan pulled his hood over his head in shame. He slouched on his seat and stared angrily at his plate. Why did he have to make himself look like an idiot all the time?
Sighing, he turned back around and kept an eye on the door. He didn't have the social bravery to stand by the entrance, but at least maybe the fact he did have his hood up made him easier to spot because it wasn't often people did. He was still pink, and his cheek now looked exactly as if someone had punched him. It didn't occur to Ryan that anyone would notice or care that he looked as if he'd been attacked.
He was hungry though. Toby better hurry up because Ryan was trying really hard to do the polite thing and wait, since they were meant to be having lunch together. He saved a spot to his left for Toby, and hoped no one sat on his right as that was for Gerald if he decided to join him. Not that Ryan was brave enough to try to stop anyone sitting there.
Then across from him was free too - but he often sat near Jonathan during mealtimes. It wasn't planned, just ended up that way. At least he would be familiar and not as scary as say a prefect or something.

Amara was pleased to be relatively early to lunch, as she was quite hungry and had gotten tired of the dungeons. She'd made some good progress with her personal goals for the day, but it had been a rather quiet morning for her. Well, aside from hexing the 2nd year Gryffindor she'd noticed wandering around on his own like an idiot. As if she could resist.
'Move.' She roughly shoved a slow-walking Hufflepuff with her elbow, and made her way to the Slytherin table with her usual air of arrogance and authority.
Amara sat so she could face the rest of the hall, and listened a bit to some of the conversations going around. Nothing too new or interesting, though she was smug that the other houses had their tryouts delayed.
She considered her lunch choices, indecisive of what she was in the mood for. Picking at some fruit, Amara checked her timetable and sighed. Charms. Not particularly exciting, and she was envious of the 4th years who got to have Potions instead. She still had to come up with a way to spend her free time that afternoon though, as so far she didn't have any urgent matters to attend to.

Mackenzie was eager to get to lunch, of course, she was hungry so that was certainly one factor - but it was more for the afternoons plans that she was the most excited for. She had a small skip in her step as she made her way to the hall - a smile on her face. She couldn't wait for Quidditch tryouts, even if she had to wait longer than expected.
The sport was by far one of the most exciting things in the magical world that she had discovered so far, she had sent several owls with letters to explain the game to her relatives - each returning with concerns and more questions. So much so that the small first year had actually borrowed a Quidditch book to be able to answer them.
But that would be a thing that would be occupying her mind later, for now, her stomach gave another small grumble as she made her way into the hall - almost tripping over herself as she spots a Ravenclaw boy stumbling over.
Concern quickly rushing through her, enough so that she moves to that table instead of her own, seeing him tuck his hood up over his head. Her concern pushing her to approach even if he appeared to be waiting for someone she stopped by the table, peering over his shoulder as she spoke.
"Are you okay? That fall looked like it hurt."
She spoke softly, her hands tucked behind her back but her expression was nothing but true concern, she had no idea what his name was or anything, but she had seen him fall and no one at all had even tried to check on him. Utter rudeness as far as she was concerned - what if he had hit his head hard enough to do some damage?
It was enough for the small Hufflepuff to want to stomp her feet and demand someone check on the poor boy, but for now she'd simply do that herself. Fine that was okay with her, she could do it - right?

Toby hurried into the hall, eager to see if Ryan had changed his mind about eating lunch with him and also to see exactly what food would be on the menu for that afternoon. He felt like he hadn't eaten in months- no, years. Looking around the hall, his gaze instinctively went first to the Gryffindor table, but it looked like Amy had yet to arrive- he hoped that by joining the Ravenclaws that lunchtime that he'd be able to escape her nagging.
Then he looked towards the Ravenclaw table and he scowled when he saw a Hufflepuff girl already talking to Ryan. Had the boy invited others to join them for lunch? Or was she bothering him? He was going to find out. Crossing the hall, he walked purposefully to where his new friend was sitting with his hood up and as he got closer, he realised that something was wrong.
"Bloody hell, what happened to you?" he demanded upon seeing the mark on Ryan's face, it looked like someone had punched him not too gently and that... That was illegal. "Who did this to you?" his gaze turned accusingly to the Hufflepuff girl, wondering if she had been the one to lamp him. He didn't know the girl but if she was as rude as her housemate that he'd met that morning then she could bugger off- and if she'd hit Ryan then Toby wouldn't need magic to show her how royally she'd messed up.
Post by Ryan Barrow on Apr 14, 2020 22:49:59 GMT 10
Despite being angled to face the door so he could keep a lookout for Toby, Ryan yelped when a Huffleuff girl suddenly spoke to him. He should have seen her approach, but his hood made it harder to see his side views - and he hadn't expected anyone to approach him. Like, ever.
'Uh... I...' Ryan stuttered some more, trying to still his heart and work out what the heck he should say to her. It was humiliating that he'd just tripped over in front of everyone. Could he lie and say someone had actually punched him?
Then Toby came in and Ryan realised someone was for real going to get hit if he pretended to have been hit. Why was this all getting complicated and intense? This is why he'd preferred Ravenclaws, even though they did a lot of loud experiments in the common room at night.
'I fell,' Ryan said lamely, not wanting the girl to get blamed or for Toby to have a bad day being mad at someone. He blushed even redder, from having two people worried about him but also in shame of how stupid he was to have fallen over in the first place. He mumbled something about "robes too long" and "was in a hurry", hoping it would suffice.
He didn't want to admit he was too excited about having Toby sit with him that he didn't pay attention to his surroundings. Ryan was humiliated enough as it was. He wanted to just sink through the floor or hide in a shell like a tortoise. Did a tortoise hide in its shell? He'd have to look that up.
'I'm okay,' he added to the girl. She was in his class, right? 'Thanks, um - for asking.' Ryan squirmed, his anxiety showing itself even though he was embarrassed by that too. He didn't want Toby to notice (though it was unmistakable how uncomfortable he was by now) and think he was too much of a wuss to be friends with.
In desperate attempt to be rid of that awkward conversation and focus on his lunch plans with Toby, Ryan quickly turned around (almost sliding himself off the seat in the process) and pointed to the first thing he saw. 'Yum. That looks great,' he said a bit too loudly, then grimaced as he was pointing at a stack of plain bread. He should have looked first.
But now he had a ruse to maintain, so Ryan grabbed a piece of bread and took a bite. Ew it was so bleh without anything on it. That was a ruse too hard to maintain, so he scooped some mushy avocado to add to it. And cheese. Because why not?
'I saved you a seat.' He pointed to the one on his left, for Toby.
Ryan didn't mean to ignore the girl, but had no idea what to say to her and certainly didn't plan to invite her to join them. He gave her a friendly smile though, or what he hoped looked like that. It was so nice of her to check on him and he wouldn't forget it. He wondered if she knew Ruby. They'd get along well, he reckoned.
Aah, lunch. His favorite time of day. Tom was usually in the mood to eat, but the busy morning he had made him feel even more famished than usual. From almost getting burned alive in Defense Against the Dark Arts to catching spiders in the dungeons with Lindsey, it had been a relatively full morning... and the day was just getting started! He knew he had Potions class in the afternoon so he definitely needed a full meal to fuel him up so he'd last the rest of the day.
On his walk into the Great Hall he had bumped into a younger Ravenclaw boy whose name he never caught, and the two of them struck up a conversation about Quidditch. Tom loved Quidditch and always had an interest in playing, but he was always way too shy to actually muster up the courage to try out. He knew there were still some open slots on the Slytherin team, but he'd missed try outs. Too bad for him.
"I really think the Gorodok Gargoyles have the one of the best Quidditch teams I've ever seen," he was saying casually to the Ravenclaw. "Their Seeker is top notch. I'd love to be as skilled as he is one day... heck, I'd love to be a Seeker of any kind." He said with a shrug. Their conversation trailed off and Tom muttered a "See ya" to the Ravenclaw boy.
He made his way to the Slytherin table and noticed he was early. The only familiar face was Amara, someone he hadn't talked to directly but someone every Slytherin knew. She had that way of making herself known even to people who hadn't been formally introduced to her. It was just her way. He sat down a few spots away from her and began to chew away at his sandwich, happy to get some food in his body.
Kenzie wasn't one to just ignore someone, particularly if they had been hurt - and she had seen the Ravenclaw boy fall over, only to notice that at least for now no one else had noticed. She wasn't regretting checking on him at all, and she offered a small smile - hoping he was okay with her checking on him. But then a red-haired boy showed up - and the way that he was looking at her made her stomach hurt a little and not from being hungry.
Does he really think that she hit him?
Her lips turn into a small frown as she stood up straighter, sure she was small but she wasn't going to let someone think she actually had hurt someone. Heck - she recognized the boys slightly as fellow first years but had no recollection of their names yet.
"I was just checking on him, I saw him trip and fall." She quickly spoke up, glancing back at the Ravenclaw boy with another small smile, she could tell he was kind of nervous although had no idea why he seemed to be nervous, was she scary or something?
"It's okay - I sometimes step on my own robes too... being short and they are a little too long," she spoke, hoping to reassure him before she shrugs slightly, glancing back at the Gryffindor boy as she raises her eyes, offering a little grin to him. "You're a good friend Lion-Boy, see if you can find him some ice or something."
With that said she turned around, offering a wave - wiggling her fingers - towards the two boys before heading back towards her own table, eager to see if she could eat with a friend or two - honestly that bread he had pointed out, wasn't looking too bad right now as her stomach was again making itself known.

Lindsey came into Lunch, having swung by to the basement to find a good place to search for roaches after lunch. She would check down there later for a quick try and catching one, but she had to check her herbology plants. With her hand on her pack, she looked about as she entered the great hall and couldn't help but blush red when she saw Tom already there.
She also quickly noticed Amara and groaned slightly as she knew they had to have a practice coming up sooner or later. Well, she didn't really want to sit with Amara, but she also knew that they had some stuff to talk about regarding her growing plants for the older student.
Walking closer to the table, she overheard Tom talking about the Gorodok Quidditch team and she scuffed as she found a place to sit near him, though on the other side of the table.
"Colwyn Crossbills has a better seeker," She said in her highland accent as she sat down, noticing some nuts on the table and put them in her bag. Only two more things needed to take to Professor Snape. Maybe she wouldn't need to go and find the roaches? Grabbing something to eat, she sat down and looked at Tom. She also glanced around for Jasper, hoping maybe she could catch him coming in and wave him down.
Amelia had managed to get the pumpkin where she wanted it and she rubbed the back of her neck as she entered the great hall and quickly saw Jade at their table. They hadn't had a chance to meet up during the morning and she groaned as she had completely forgotten about that. Shrugging, she headed towards the table, but noticed Tobias wasn't there. Taking a quick scan, she quickly saw him over at the Ravenclaw table and sighed. They had talked enough today and so she just went and sat across the table from Jade.
"Do anything interesting this morning?" She asked as she grabbed some food and put it on her plate, grabbing her goblet and filling it with some pumpkin juice. It seemed like a mumble of all sorts of conversations could be heard and she looked around the great hall again for anyone else to come in.

Grace let out a puff of breath as she entered the Great Hall. She thought she was going to be late to lunch, having spent most of her morning doing a rather difficult puzzle. And Herbology class, but the puzzle was much more interesting to her. She scanned the Great Hall for Gerald, eager to tell him about what she had seen. That creature was so cool! She wouldn't tell him that she had considered sacrificing him for it, especially since now that she was remembering it she felt rather guilty.
She wasn't quite sure how she should be interacting with her peers, exactly. A lot of them seemed to be able to figure some things out quicker than she did, and Grace really wanted to be remembered, even if she didn't want anybody to laugh at her, ever.
When she didn't see Gerald, she instead decided that his friends would probably know where he was. Or were they her friends, too? She liked all of them, but she wasn't used to having friends that were boys. They were a little different, even if she knew the difference wasn't too big. She scooped up an apple as she went over to Ryan and Toby. She had interactions with the both of them before, so it wasn't like it would be too bad. She wanted them to be her friends, too.
Flouncing her way over, Grace was a little proud of herself for completing the puzzle and feeling like one of the queens of Hogwarts, even if she was a little out of breath from running to lunch. She leaned over, attempting to wrap her arms around the boys, standing behind them. "Would either of you have happened to see Gerald around?" she asked, withdrawing her arms in shock when she saw what appeared to be a bruise on Ryan's face. "Gee, Ryan. Got a spider bite?" she said, not entirely prepared to deal with any situation that required interacting with bullies. Even going up to the Deal Kid still made her a little nervous. She also thought she could remind him of an adventure they had shared.
Post by Arthur Hocking on Apr 15, 2020 6:27:36 GMT 10
Arthur sat down at the Hufflepuff table, trying to mentally prepare himself for going to Professor Snape's class. It wasn't like he didn't like Potions, no, it was quite the opposite. He was always a little more nervous around Snape, especially since Arthur was considering doing something related to Potions in the future. Yeesh, thinking about his future? He was starting to sound like Elara.
He cringed a little. Last class hadn't gone well, and he had thought that Elara and Hanna would be back to being friends, or at least on speaking terms with each other. He had felt especially bad that the creature, the name of which he had already forgotten, had scared Hanna. He felt weak, like he usually did.
Arthur stuffed some nuts in his pockets for later as he grabbed himself a sandwich. The concept of an afterschool snack seemed to be something wizarding kids didn't really do. He wished they could just have normal Muggle school lunches sometimes. That would show the magical kids what they were missing out on. He looked around him, a little quiet but ready to make some conversation.
Charlotte had stepped into the hall slightly later that usual, having stayed behind to finish sorting the books after the Gryffindor boy had snuck out of Rickards office. As her feet carried her to the Hufflepuff table she couldn't stop her eyes from searching the faces of the people who had made it to lunch before her; her pace slowed for a second as she locked onto the red-head boy.
She couldn't stop the glare she sent his way as she took a seat at her table, no doubt burning a hole into the Gryffindor boy; he had left her to do all the work and she had questions, what was he going to do with the information they had received from the hat. A sigh fell from the Doren as she turned her back on the boy, throwing a small smile as she noticed Arthur near by before plating herself some food.
Charlotte hoped she didn't seem to rude when she didn't great the other Hufflepuff but her thoughts were elsewhere; the artefacts were intriguing to her and she knew that she wouldn't be able to stop thinking about them until she found them.
Tom looked over his shoulder and noticed his new friend Lindsey had plopped down beside him and joined their conversation about Quidditch. The two of them seemed to be bumping into each other all day! Tom was beginning to wonder if Lindsey wasn't intentionally making sure their paths crossed, but he quickly put the idea out of his mind. No way a girl would want to make sure she was constantly around him... no way.
He did notice that she scooped a handful of nuts into her robe, and he quickly copied her idea and did the same. Nuts were definitely on the ingredient list... he'd now collected 2/5 ingredients for his Potions kit! He was really happy with his progress. He could hopefully grab another ingredient or two today and maybe even finish up with all 5 tomorrow.
"The Crossbills Seeker is just okay," Tom opined, feigning more knowledge than he actually had. "He's not the best though. Probably not even top 10 in the world. I bet I'll be just as good a Seeker one day, maybe even better!" As soon as the words left his mouth he wondered where they came from. It definitely wasn't in his nature to be so cocky and full of himself, but he'd spit the words out before he fully realized what he was saying. Was...was he trying to impress Lindsey on some level? Nah, couldn't be...
