It was a rather gloomy morning, with a cloudy sky and a lingering chill in the air. Many members of staff were still absent from the head table while breakfast started. Students were either quieter than usual or eagerly chatting about the upcoming Quidditch try-outs that day.
3rd years were in the best moods, as they had an entire day of free time ahead of them. 7th years did too, but had already resolved to use that time to focus on their NEWT studies and preparations. Perhaps a bit too soon, but topics such as the Braxorn escape and the conclusion of the Daymoth outbreak had all but completely faded from anyone's interest.
Owl post hadn't arrived yet, though a few owls sat by the head table as though some Professors had started their duties considerably earlier. McGonagall in particular seemed to be in a rather displeased mood. Student schedules for the day were magically assigned to everyone who sat at their house table. They are:
Morning Classes 1st years - Herbology 4th years - Defence Against the Dark Arts
Ravenclaw: Quidditch try-outs are this morning.
Afternoon Classes 4th years - Potions 5th years - Charms
Hufflepuff: Quidditch try-outs are this afternoon.
Owl Post will arrive soon with the Daily Prophet. Morning class threads will be available for posting in once breakfast ends, and afternoon ones when lunch ends. If there aren't students in a particular year, that class won't occur - 2nd, 6th, and 7th year classes aren't listed on the schedule.
When breakfast/lunch ends, the Quidditch Captain will make a thread to start try-outs. Any members of that house are welcome to attend. School brooms are used for these events, regardless if a character has their own or not.
Elara entered the hall quickly, glancing immediately over towards the Slytherin table- she was disheartened to see that Hanna wasn't there. Was she okay? Would she be in class? It was still early, many students hadn't yet come down to breakfast, her friends absence wasn't anything to worry about... Yet.
Walking briskly over to the Hufflepuff table, she took a seat and then gave herself a generous portion of scrambled eggs and toast. With defence against the dark arts that morning and potions and try-outs that afternoon, she would need a full breakfast to get her through the day.
Looking around the hall, she wondered when the post would arrive, she wasn't expecting a letter from her parents, no... She would write to them that afternoon telling them how she did at try-outs. However, she always looked forward to reading the paper as she ate her breakfast. Sighing as she saw no sign of the approaching owls, she began to eat her food, every so often glancing hopefully towards the door and then over to the Slytherin table.

Tobias walked slowly into the hall, a yawn on his lips as he immediately veered towards the Gryffindor table. He'd had a late night last night and although he'd fallen asleep almost the second his head hit his pillow, he was beginning to feel the effects of staying up later than his usual bedtime. The excitement of yesterday's try-outs had started to wear off now that he had nothing to anticipate and could relax until the first game of the season, or until his parents replied to his letter.
Sliding into his usual seat, he poured himself some orange juice in the hopes that the cold liquid would awaken him. He had herbology that morning and he didn't feel like that would wake him up at all. Was there anything exciting about gardening? He didn't think so and the fact that he'd have to endure a whole class dedicated to it was cruel... At least in his opinion.
Glancing around the table, he noticed that none of his siblings had yet come down for breakfast, probably a good thing since he was still trying to avoid Amy and her inappropriate friends.

Lindsey had not had a good night of sleep, but upon waking up she had gotten dressed and ready for her free day. She didn't wear a robe today, just her uniform pants and button up shirt, along with her shoes and tie. Since she was off today, she didn't feel the need to wear her full uniform and she wanted to be comfortable. Once she was ready, she went to the Great Hall, leaving the Bridies for Mungo to eat. "I'll be back after breakfast and take you out for the day." She said calmly before she headed out and barely paid attention until she reached the great hall.
Taking a glance around, she noticed Elara over at the Hufflepuff table, but she made a bee-line for the Slytherin Table. Pulling her strap to her shoulder pack with her hands, she found a chair and sat. Grabbing a bowl, she spooned out some porridge into her bowl, grabbing some honey to put into it and finding the pitcher of milk and some butter. Mixing in well, she was happy to finally sit down and start her food.
"Nothin' a good bowl of parritch(porridge) canna fix." She said to herself, though plenty loud enough that anyone around her might here her speak. She grabbed a cup as well, getting some coffee in it before putting some sugar and creamer in it to drink it.

Amelia had gotten back to the common room and went straight to bed the night prior. After waking up a little late, she grumbled when she made it down to the great hall and looked about. Looking at her schedule, she smiled when she saw that she had a free morning and looked up to see Toby sitting at the table. Well, it was better now than never.
Making her way over to him, she grabbed some toast and eggs, sitting next to him and not saying anything right away. It seemed they were the only two Twiggs this morning, but that was okay with her. She really needed to talk to him personally before any of the others arrived. Sighing, she looked over at him before she spoke.
"We need to talk about last night, Toby." She said, still unaware that he had sent a letter to their parents too. She had sent one yesterday as well, but it didn't include anything about brooms. Now, Jade had offered to buy a broom for her and she had agreed, with no particulars on the type she was given, as it was a gift and she wasn't demanding anything.
Yawning, Rubes wandered into the great hall, plonked herself down at the Hufflepuff table, poured out a drink and filled a bowl with some cereal. Hopefully, the day would bring something or someone new and exciting. Perhaps she'd learn a new spell, win another duel or find another friend. That would certainly be good.
Glancing down at her schedule, she saw that her morning would be taken up with Herbology and she had a free afternoon. Herbology was a class she'd been looking forward to, but was also skeptical about. How much could she possibly learn from plants?
Rose had not slept well with everything that had happened the night before. When she woke up she sighed and rubbed her eyes. Climbing up and out of bed she went to the closet and grabbed her shirt and tie as well as the rest of her clothes and got dressed, making sure her uniform was pristine she walked out of the dorms and into the great hall. She went and sat down next to Lindsey and smiled. "Hi, crazy night last night huh?"

Lindsey looked up as someone sat next to her and smiled when she noticed it was the young first year from the night prior. As she spoke, she chuckled in light before finishing up her food that was in her mouth. "Aye, it was certainly interesting." She said in her thickened Highland accent. As grabbed some toast, buttering it lightly with a knife before she took a bite from it.
"So, ye have herbology today?" She said, taking a glimpse at the schedule and seeing her class.
Kier slipped into the great hall looking like he’d just been out escapading in a great typhoon, despite the fact that there hadn’t been any weather of the sort to explain his looks. His hair was wet and tussled and his eyes unusually bright for a boy that commonly came to breakfast looking like a worn out zombie. All in all he looked like a boy up to something strange. Then again, anyone who knew him or knew of him probably wouldn’t be none too surprised of this. He wasn’t exactly known for being a good boy.
As he approached the hufflepuff table Kier paused just long enough to shake his head like a dog and spray any nearby slytherin with droplets of cold water before sitting down with his housemates. He didn’t even try to hide the grin or act like he hadn’t meant to do it. Hell, for the last few days he’d been laying low to avoid any heat from his last prank and it was about time he stirred things up. Couldn’t let things get boring now could he?
As per usual he loaded up on bacon before settling down to keep an eye out on the other students. He’d missed a lot while keeping low and now he was prepared to play catch up on gossip and missed drama. Today was an important day and he’d be damned if he didn’t get every ounce of amusement out of it as he could. Nothing was going to ruin his good mood. Not even a certain snake.

Toby was in the process of helping himself to a stack of pancakes when his eldest sister decided to make her appearance. He didn't even glance in her direction, instead insisting upon pouring a generous amount of syrup over his plate. Only after he was satisfiied with how his breakfast looked, did he turn to look at her. "I don't think we need to talk about it at all, Amelia" he replied, before turning his attention back to the food in front of him and beginning to eat.
He wasn't really interested in hearing what she had to say, not when she'd likely defend her loud mouthed friend and say that he'd been unreasonable by leaving the hall before dessert had even begun. Speaking of- he hoped some other first years would come and rescue him from Amy's "talk" so that he would have the opportunity to eat his weight in food, to make up for what he'd missed out on the night before.
The tone he took with her quickly made her own face burn red for a moment, though she bit her lip to pull herself down. Where was her sister when she needed her? Not here, obviously... Letting out a sigh, she closed her eyes and then looked back at him. "Yes we do, Tobias Twiggs." She said firmly, looking at him as she began to cut up her food for a moment.
"Jade didn't mean anything by what she said, she was making an observation, one that I neglected to take into consideration myself when I realized we were both trying-out." She said plainly, but calmly enough to lower her voice. "But, had you stuck around, you might have realized we found a solution, one that I'm not to fond of and one I won't speak of here." She said quietly before she took a bite of her food, the taste instantly giving her a little bit of happiness in this morning.
"Running off the way you did, didn't help matters any and only caused more of a scene." She said calmly, remembering when she had done the same thing here and there as a younger student at Hogwarts.
"I do believe so." Rose nodded in conformation as she spoke and began to eat her porridge. It may be early into the year but Rose had yet to make a friend and she really wanted to change that. Lindsey might have been a couple of years older than her but she seemed nice enough and genuinely interesting to the point where she felt that the age difference didn't matter, she wanted Lindsey to be her friend. "what is your first class?"

Arthur felt rather well-rested, and he had become a little bit better with his pet last night as well, so he was pleased for that reason. He shuddered when he remembered he had Defense Against the Dark Arts, but at least there was Potions afterwards, even if Professor Snape could be a little frightening, to say the least.
He sat down next to Elara, but gave a friendly nod to all the other Hufflepuffs at the table. "How are you?" he asked. He knew that Hanna was her best friend, and he imagined she was probably still quite upset about the whole Daymoth thing, which felt long ago. He barely even considered that Hufflepuff tryouts were today.

As Lindsey ate some of her food, she listened to the young girl speak and also looked about the hall, checking to see if anyone else she knew had come in. So far, she didn't see anyone that she had any time invested in or wanted to invest in, so she went back to her porridge. As she was asked about class, Lindsey smiled and looked over at her for a moment.
"No class for me today, but I was goin' to go and see History of Magic Professor and then to Snape to get me own potion kit." She said to the girl as she took another bite of her porridge, though grabbed a couple of apples and placed them in her shoulder bag she brought with her to carry her things. It would be good to have a couple of apples to snack on during the day.

Glaring at his sister when she decided to use his full name and continued to launch into the obvious lecture she'd been preparing in her head since the night before, he rolled his eyes and turned back to his breakfast, begrudgingly eating the pancakes. "It wasn't her right to make an observation" he retorted in answer to her words- as anticipated, she was defending her friend instead of admitting that she'd been in the wrong.
Continuing to eat his pancakes, he watched her from the corner of his eye "what's this solution?" he asked her, curious... But not convinced. He heard her say that she wouldn't discuss it at that moment, but that didn't stop him from wanting to know. If it meant that they could both play quidditch, then he wanted to hear it. "Well maybe you should tell your friends not to talk about stuff that isn't any of their business!" he snapped at her, shoving more pancake into his mouth and putting arguably too much vigour into cutting up another bite sized portion. He wasn't the one who was at fault, he didn't care if Amy disagreed- she was obviously in love with Jade or something, otherwise she would be on his side. He was her brother after all.
