Dinner couldn't come soon enough as the Ravenclaw boy was starving. He ran back to his domatory to drop off his stuff, except his sketchbook. He never seemed to go anywhere without it. He left the Ravenclaw common room and through the enerance, waving to the painting that guarded the enterance before leaving.
He made his way through the halls and to the great Hall. He was a bit late but there would still be plenty for him to eat. He looked around at each table, he spotted Lindsey and waved to her before taking his seat at the ravenclaw table.
He began to fill his plate with all his favorite things. He use to think it was strange that his favorite things were always avaliable, but he quickly remembered that magic was all around him. Now a days he was more interested in listening to the gosip around him.
Today's talk was all about quittitch, which reminded him that Ravenclaw's tryouts would be tommorow morning. He never really thought himself as a 'sport' kind of guy, but who know. Just maybe he'd suprise himself.
There was another subject of the talk tonight, The daymoths. From the sounds of it, one had attacked a group of students. He just hoped no one was hurt. His curosity got the better of him, so he continued to listen in; digging for more infomation.
Elara entered the hall feeling a little more subdued than she usually did at meal times, she couldn't smile when the image of the daymoth was still burned so freshly into her mind. Hanna was okay... She hadn't died, but she could have and that thought terrified the Hufflepuff. The idea of losing her best friend was unthinkable.
Then there was the way Hanna had looked at her and had decided to take herself to the hospital wing instead of allowing Elara to help her. Elara couldn't help but feel like Hanna was mad at her and that stirred up feelings of guilt and unease in her gut... They'd never really had a real fight, not one that left Elara feeling like she did in this moment, like she couldn't even talk with the Slytherin. She felt awful.
Heading to the Hufflepuff table, she slid into her usual seat and took a buttered roll from a platter and began to idly eat it. She wasn't feeling extremely hungry after the afternoons events and wondered when it might be acceptable for her to check in with Hanna at the hospital wing. Would Hanna even want her there? She had better go anyway... Just to make sure. She reached for a pitcher of pumpkin juice and poured herself a cup, taking a few deep gulps in an effort to give herself a boost and to perhaps kickstart her appetite.
She couldn't not eat anything, going to bed hungry again was not an appealing thought.

Mackenzie was certainly enjoying her time already at Hogwarts, it seemed no matter where she went, there was something fascinating to see. Of course, she had also been doing her best to meet new people, to make some new friends as well, it wasn't as easy as expected though but it didn't bother her too much. There was still a lot of time and she put a smile on her face as she hurried into the great hall and towards the Hufflepuff table.
She was eager to eat, her stomach growling at the mere smell of the food. Quickly she snagged a roll and was already taking a bite when she looked around, wondering if she should sit with someone else or just sit on her own. No - it was to definitely be with someone else!
But who? Her eyes darted around, briefly glancing down the Hufflepuff table as she finished the roll she had grabbed, stopping for a moment on an older girl that seemed - well, sad. Well no - that was not to be as far as she was concerned, she paused and leaned on the bench nearest the girl - almost kneeling fully before, tilting her head slightly as she spoke.
"Are you okay? You don't look okay - did someone upset you - can I help? I'm small but I can go yell at someone if they upset you. I'm not scared." She quickly spoke, one hand reaching for another roll as she waited for an answer. She hated seeing others upset, and while she had no idea who this girl actually was - but she was in her house so that kind of made them family of some kind right? At least to Kenzie that was how she saw it.

Jade continued eating, glancing at Tobias leaving the Great Hall. She got a few disapproving looks shot her way but had no idea what everyone was making such a fuss about. She shrugged it off and listened as Amy considered the broomstick situation.
'Well, having heard Tiana go over every damn rule a million times... I do know you're not allowed to use school brooms for matches.' Jade shrugged again, then paused to take a long sip of her pumpkin juice.
She'd forgotten that money was an issue for the Twiggs family, and agreed that Tobias at least would need a good broom as a Seeker. She assumed their parents would have more money than a student, but Jade regarded Amy again and considered how much her own family had wanted her to play Quidditch. Blessed Tess had been on the team, for Slytherin of course, but Jade wasn't having any of it. She refused to be anything like her sister, yet maybe there was something she could do for Amy?
'You just need a plan,' Jade said. 'Maybe you could suggest to your parents that you'll work off the money or something? I don't know. Tell them to get Tobias a good broom and maybe you could pay half of yours to help them out? I mean, maybe you could pay half and I'll pay the other half? I don't mind, really.' She took another sip of juice.
Jade wasn't going to assume Amy would just take that offer though, and she didn't want to imply she had a lot of money to just toss around. That wasn't the case at all, but she really wanted to help - not just the Twiggs family who had been nothing but nice, but also Tiana and the Gryffindor team itself. Maybe Amy would accept it if she knew more, even if it wasn't something Jade really wanted to get into over dinner.
'Look, I was given a sort of "Quidditch fund" or whatever,' Jade begrudgingly admitted. 'My stupid family don't care that I won't play Quidditch. It's not my thing. But that doesn't mean I can't still invest in the team. It sort of counts. So I want to help you get a broom. I'd do the same for Tiana, but she figured that out on her own. I really don't mind. In fact, I insist on it.' Jade gave Amy a stern look.
They always got along well but hadn't officially been "friends" for the most part. If Jade did this to help her get a broom, which even Jade didn't really understand how big a deal it was or how much that might mean to someone... Well, they pretty much had to be friends after that, right? Jade didn't mind. She hadn't really thought about trying to befriend Amy, but supposed it might be nice to have more proper friends.

Amara showed interested as Lindsey said her mother is a Herbologist. That was also a magical term, which inspired confidence. Blood status was something Amara regarded highly, but in this particular case it was even more important as of course grown ingredients were magical plants not muggle ones. The last thing she needed was some muggle idiocy ruining her ingredients at the hands of someone who doesn't understand the difference.
'Perhaps,' Amara replied somewhat aloof. 'My primary focus is on Potion-making, but gathering certain ingredients can be a chore. Particularly those grown in the greenhouses. I'm rather busy with far more important matters, you understand. I've been in search of someone who may perhaps be interested in assisting me with that little issue.' She waited to see how Lindsey reacted to the idea before she decided if this girl was really up to the task.
She finished her dinner in the meantime, rather bored by the whole event though glad no one had the idiotic idea of causing drama again. Amara glanced above the house table just in case, still bitter about the glitter prank. She'll never forget it, not until the person or people responsible were punished for it.
Amelia was chewing her food as Jade spoke again, cringing at the memory of hearing the same rules before. She had forgotten about that in all the excitement. They had to have their own broom for Quidditch, which really put a stump on her. She might have to get off the team. Her brother was the biggest quidditch fan of all, there was no way she was going to tell him he couldn't play. It would suck for her, she loved the game, but she could find other hobbies.
Before Amelia could speak, Jade had continued on and Amelia found herself putting her food down and looked over at her with wide eyes at the end. Amelia was quite as she leaned towards her and looked about. "The offer is great... Really... But, my parents might flip on me." To be completely honest, she wasn't exactly sure how her parents might react to the whole thing, but she had a feeling they wouldn't like the charity of another. But, Tobias needed a good broom and Amelia could get away with using a second rate broom... As long as she could get between a bludger and a player, she would take anything.
As she spoke about this whole fund she had, Amelia bit her lip and looked at her stern face as she thought about it. "Let me think it over, Jade... And, I have to talk to my brother and speak to my parents first... I don't think they would accept it, but..." But she really wanted to play. Already, she felt her face grow hot and she really wished her twin was about to talk this over with as well. She honestly was sure that she would have the same feelings she did on this subject.
Professor Rickard walked to the Headmaster's podium stand. The owl stretched its wings, and students realised something was going on. Chatter began to die down as the attention went to the front of the Great Hall.
'If I could have your attention for a moment?' Rickard said, reducing the last of the chatter. 'I can officially confirm, with great relief, that the Crystal Daymoth outbreak has ended. A few moths remain free, but continued efforts are being made to handle the situation and put a stop to the danger they pose.'
He paused, giving them a moment to process the news. There were many sighs of relief around the room, though a few seemed skeptical.
'However, just prior to the final stages of the action taken against the Daymoths, there was an unfortunate influx of attacks against Hogwarts students this afternoon,' Rickard added. 'Everyone who was harmed during the event were treated and are in recovery.'
There was a murmer of whispers and concern, though it wasn't entirely a surprise to most as the rumours had gone around. Several of those who were attacked earlier had already shared their stories or made mention of the increase of moth activity.
'However, as an added precaution, Professor Hathmore has created a defensive spell that we've since enacted around the castle as an added protective measure,' Rickard said, raising his hand to lower the conversational volume again. 'The spell shall be unnoticed by those coming and going from the grounds, but any Daymoth who tries to cross it will be obliterated. Thank you, Professor.'
There was a round of applause for Professor Hathmore, who was pleased to have helped yet dismissed the show of praise and attention. He was just doing his job, after all. The fact he'd created the spell himself was noteworthy, particularly to the older students.
'I believe that is all for now.' Rickard glanced at the staff table to see if anyone else had something to add. They didn't. 'Very well. Have a good and safe night, everyone.' He returned to converse with Professor Hathmore, then headed out of the Great Hall along with several other members of staff.
Food vanished from the tables, and were replaced by delicious desserts. Various tempting treats weren't enough to make many students linger, as they soon rose to head to their common rooms to discuss the recent events or otherwise.

Grace wasn't exactly sure why Toby had run off at the older girl's mention of some type of money, but she understood that it was something serious by the way he had. She scooted over near his place, wiping the gravy off with a napkin. She looked at his plate, and scooted it to the side, for when he came back. She thought he would come back, boys were so weird about that stuff.
She eyed her own plate, thinking that once she wrote home, her mom would probably want her to have the best broom around. She barely even heard Amelia and Jade discussing broom finances and how they would pay them off, or the rules about some school rules. She dipped some of her own meat into her gravy, not the spilled stuff.
"Do...do you want me to follow him?" the first year asked Amelia, realizing she hadn't said anything earlier. She didn't really want to go into the boys dormitories, nor did she care much about Toby at the moment, other than as a teammate for a game they had never played together, but she generally trusted the advice of older Gryffindors, with some exceptions.
The words had just left her mouth when Professor Rickard began to speak, and she would have to wait for an answer. There was good news about the daymoths, then, she thought. Grace had heard some rumors about attacks, but had been lucky enough to remain relatively unharmed. She smiled when dessert appeared, but tried to pull Toby's plate out of the way, of whatever magic, just in case he was still coming back.

Post by Lindsey Bryce on Feb 8, 2020 13:53:24 GMT 10
Lindsey looked up as Avery came near the table and smiled brightly at her. "Hey Avery!" She made sure that the girl had a place next to her and moved anything she had placed down. "How was ye're day?" She asked brightly as she waited to see what Amara might say in response to the news of her mother being a herbologist. Granted, her mother was also a healer, which is what her own goals were at the present moment.
Then, Amara spoke and talked about how she was focused mostly on potion-making. "Aye, I believe I heard ye were skilled in potions... I'd love some tips when ye have the time." She said briefly as she listened to everything else. As she spoke about about someone to help her in the area of ingredient making, Lindsey pulled herself up straight and thought about it for a moment.
Putting any food she had from her plate down, she looked at the food ahead of her and then back over at Amara. "Ye want me to grow your wee herbs?" She asked to make sure she understood that part before she continued. "Aye, I could do that for ye... But what do I get from this deal? I'm no gonna do it for free... Herbology takes skill, time and work... I expect to be compensated for this work some how." She said in a tone that said she wasn't budging on that detail.
"If ye want, we can talk about details later in private." Luckily, at the moment if was just the three of them and Lindsey did not mind if Avery heard, but others, including staff, might not be thrilled about the whole idea. Lindsey wasn't sure herself.
Before anything else could be said, she heard the chatter begin to fade and turned her head to the headmaster, listening to everything. She looked about the Great Hall as he said some students were attack and then realized that Hanna was not at dinner yet. "Where's Hanna?" She whispered loud enough only those around her might hear, though maybe she just wanted to skip dinner. When they were told about the spell that had been placed by Professor Hathmore, she clapped along with everyone else and let out a sigh of relief. She had been planning to learn that spell, but it seemed to be pointless now.
Once he was done, she turned back to her food and ate some of it. With a look and smile to Avery, she spoke to her again. "Oh, I was thinking... What if we did out Defense Against the Dark Arts Homework tonight?" She wasn't sure how they could do it, but was sure they could think of something. She stole a glance over to Amara to see if there was anything else she wanted to say before taking another bite of her food.

Arthur was busy thinking about what had happened to Hanna for most of dinner, and so he was abnormally quiet as he ate his meal that night. He couldn't even look at Elara, thinking it was his inaction that made Hanna feel like she had to step up. Hogwarts was much more dangerous than Muggle school had ever been.
He knew Hanna would probably be okay, but he couldn't help but poke at his food as the headmaster spoke. "Should've done it sooner..." he muttered. He wondered if Hathmore had actually created a spell from scratch or if it was just one the professors thought wouldn't be necessary.
Arthur would be reluctant to go outside after this, even though he loved gardening and Herbology. He knew his seeds would be growing, and he should check on them, but he couldn't think about that now. He ate some dessert, glad at the very least he could enjoy something sweet.
Elara was finding it difficult to concentrate on anything other than the afternoons attack when an unfamiliar voice spoke quite close to her and she looked up from the roll she was attempting to stomach. Noticing the first year that was in fact talking directly to her, she forced a smile "I'm okay" it wasn't at all convincing but it was a weak attempt at reassuring the girl that everything was fine.
It was incredibly thoughtful of the first year to approach her at all with the aim of asking her if she was alright and perhaps attempting to cheer her up. "I just had a rough afternoon, but I'll be okay" she didn't want to scare the girl by talking about the daymoth attack- she'd likely learn all about it from her classmates at a later date anyway, she didn't need to relive the terrifying ordeal.
She was just about to reach for some more food when Headmaster Rickard addressed the hall and she sat up a little straighter as if that might help her to pay better attention to him while he spoke. Elara let out a relieved breath when he told them that the daymoth outbreak had been resolved and protective enchantments had been placed around the school as a precaution. At least there would be no further attacks, they wouldn't have to be scared whenever they left the castle.
She and her friends had just been enjoying time by the lake when the moth had attacked them...
Once Headmaster Rickard had finished speaking and left the hall, Elara watched as desserts appeared upon the table in place of their main course. She wondered if Hanna was still awake and after a moment of serious thought, found that she had better go check in with the Slytherin. She really was concerned about her best friend, even if Hanna didn't want to see her. "I'm really sorry, I've got somewhere I need to be" she apologised to the first year before grabbing a couple of plates of chocolate cake (she was still hungry and didn't know if Hanna had eaten or at least gotten dessert) and leaving her seat, hurriedly exiting the hall and walking briskly in the direction of the hospital wing. She wanted to see Hanna before curfew forced her back to the common room.
Charlotte had slipped into the Great hall no to long into dinner, a glum expression on her face as she took a seat close to her housemates; if she knew them better or had the confidence to she would of sat closer but at least from where she sat if they could start a conversation if they wanted to.
She quickly plated some food before picking up her knife and fork, she couldn't help but berate herself as she ate; her mind on what little she had done with her day and a reminder to do better tomorrow. Her eyes snapped up as the Headmaster began to speak, no matter how slow her afternoon had been at least it wasn't as bad as who ever was attacked.
Once dessert had started the Hufflepuff had found herself not hungry enough to eat anymore, her eyes moving across the delicious arrangement only to stop on a bowl of nuts; a smile pulling at her features as she leaned forwards to grab a handful before slipping them into her bag, two ingredients down just three more to go.
Post by Jade Arwell on Feb 9, 2020 11:38:17 GMT 10
Jade shrugged. 'Suit yourself. I bet they'd flip more for having to buy two new brooms though. And I'm not really offering to help them, I'm helping you...' She leaned to nudge Amy. 'They could hardly fault you for accepting a gift that's meant to assist your whole team, right? I mean, that would be rude.' She smirked.
With a sign, Jade glanced around in hope of seeing Tiana soon. With their plans, it felt like a lot of wasted time to venture all the way to the Gryffindor tower only to have to sneak out of it again. While the Great Hall wasn't the most private of places to plan some rule-breaking, it seemed safe enough now with others (including Professors) leaving.
'I need to put a tracking spell on that girl,' Jade muttered, clearly talking about her best friend as there was a hint of fondness in her tone and the annoyance seemed half-hearted.
Avery frowned as dinner vanished, having only partially listened to what the Headmaster had to say. She was rather tired tonight, but it still seemed too early for bed. Then Lindsey suggested their work on the Defence homework, which Avery had almost forgotten about until now.
'Yeah.' She gave a non-committal shrug. 'I guess so. I'll uh, meet you in our dorm?' Avery grabbed an apple and a piece of cake, then stood from her seat. She gave Seabrook a wary but semi-polite nod, then turned to leave the Great Hall.
She was looking forward to spending more time with Lindsey, just hoped it wouldn't be too late a night as sleep was tempting. Avery wasn't in the best of moods either, but that was hardly anything new. She hoped, despite it being homework, the defensive task they'd been set would either wake her up a bit or prove more fun than expected.

Amara scoffed, irritating growing though she tried to reel it in. 'Quite skilled? Try: the best. Have you ever heard Professor Snape compliment someone for their potion-making excellence? I have.' After that moment of mandatory arrogance to defend her title, she returned to the topic at hand though not without adjusting her tie in an act of preening. She then grabbed some nuts from the table, as well as an apple for later.
Lindsey had asked for tips though, so her comment about Amara being any less than perfect in Potions was easily forgotten.
'No, I hardly expect you to do this for free,' Amara added. 'I'm well aware of the time and care required, which is precisely why I don't have time for it myself. I have a few offers in mind. However, you can make suggestions for what you'd like in return. I'm sure we can come to an agreement. I can be quite persuasive.' There was a hint of threat in her tone, mostly just implying that Lindsey should be smart about it and not try to ask for more than deserved.
Dinner had ended and Amara had no interest in dessert, as tempting as the custard looked. 'I tire of this conversation. Have a think about it. Find me in the common room later.' She rose from her seat, giving Lindsey a dismissive sort of wave. She then strode out of the Great Hall.
Amara knew it was almost curfew, but she wanted to check on her ingredient stores now she had an opportunity being presented to her for expanding it. It wouldn't take long, then she'd be lounging in the common room and enjoying the rest of her night. "Enjoying" being a vague term, as her mood had yet to improve.
