The sun set and dinner began. The Great Hall began to fill with chatter and students, though many warily glanced up at the enchanted ceiling - which showed a cloudless sky and the glow of a full moon. Most of the staff were present, though Madam Pomfrey was notably absent - liking in the Hospital Wing, as she so often was on nights of the full moon. No one really knew why, just that it wasn't a common sight for her to be at dinner yet.
The Daymoths were a popular topic tonight, as it seemed there were numerous attacks that afternoon. Nothing too serious had been reported, so likely each incident had involved a rescue on behalf of Captains, Prefects, or Professors. No one was saying anything specific, but the students filled the tables faster than usual - as if everyone had gotten inside or somewhere safe as soon as possible.
Headmaster Rickard was more attentive than usual, as if he was waiting for something.
Reminder: a night of a full moon means any student who ventures outside the castle (until the new RPG day begins) is guaranteed be caught by a Professor, even though we currently have no werewolf characters on site. As any who may join later would have been a werewolf the whole time, we account for the precaution early - just in case. Activities inside the castle proceed as normal.

Amara was almost offended that she was one of the first to arrive at dinner, though wasn't sure how that was possible since she'd come all the way from the grounds. She was annoyed, and shoved an unsuspecting second year rather violently out of her way as he'd lingered too far in her path as she tried to get into the hall. She ignored his yell, and the protests of some nearby students, and headed to the Slytherin table.
Now she was there, Amara was quite hungry. She refused to think further on those idiots she'd just had to rescue from a Daymoth, but did hope they'd had the sense to listen to her in getting Grey to the Hospital Wing. She'd be checking in later to make sure of it.
She sat around the middle, which wasn't quite "her spot" yet had become the most common area to find her over the years. Amara served herself some roast chicken and potatoes, with a side of steamed vegetables. She gave the Great Hall a casual glance, but nothing and no one in particular caught her attention so she simply settled to eat her dinner and lightly eavesdrop on any conversations nearby that sounded worth noticing.
If anyone other than a fellow 5th year Slytherin tried to join her, then it would be at their own risk. More than usual, anyway.

The afternoon had gone great for Lindsey, with the Care of Magical Creatures class being rather fun and seeing her plants grown and ready for harvest. She had even had some time to help the Headmaster with his books, which had allowed her to learn about some artifacts. Lindsey didn't have anything specific, but maybe she could speak to Professor Archerose about it. Being the history professor, he was bound to know something about that.
The headmaster had not wanted to speak anymore on the subject and she had quickly left, heading straight to the Owlry to retrieve Mungo her Owl so that he could be taken back to the dorm for the ending. Lindsey was hoping to bond with him more and planned to bring some snacks back to the dorm to share with him.
Dinner had started shortly after that and she had made her way to the great hall at a rather relaxed pace. As she entered, she glanced around for any friends that she might want to sit with and headed in the general direction of her house table.
"Lindsey! Can I ask you something?" Lindsey turned around as a younger student ran up to her, a little red faced from an obvious fast pace. "Can you tell me about how to get your herbology kit? Someone said you had one." Lindsey smiled at the younger student and motioned from them to walk with her.
"Aye, it wasn't hard to do, ye kin(you know), quite easy." She said in her thick highland accent before she continued, "Ye'll head over to Mr. Hagrid's hut and he can get ye a wee pot full of soil..." She said, stopped near her table, almost directly across from the Captain of the Slytherin quidditch team. "Then, ye head over to Professor Sprout and tell her ye want to get ye're Herbology kit... She talked to me about why I wanted the kit and then she taught me the water-makin' charm... A little advice is to focus and speak firmly when ye practice it." She said to the younger student.
"Oh, thanks... I'll remember that tip..." And with that, the younger student was gone and Lindsey turned to the table. She didn't sit directly in front of Amara, but within' talking distance, leaving space for her fellow dorm-mate Avery. Grabbing her plate, she began to put her food on her plate, smiling as she saw a bridie, a meat pastry, sitting between some other food.
Putting those on her plate, she grabbed some fruit and vegetables before taking a bite of the food on her plate. Already, she went ahead and pocketed two of the bridies, two rolls and an apple to snack on later. Even she knew the importance of having a small stash of food in the dorms after dinner. With all the fun they had in the dorms, it would be good to snack on something if you couldn't get to the kitchen and Mungo would enjoy some of this as well for Breakfast or a midnight snack.

The afternoon had seemed to slow down once she got into the dorm and she grumbled slightly as it finally came time to get down there. She took her time, leaving just early enough to get to the owlry and use a school owl to send her letter to her parents. They would want to know the good news and she wanted to share it with them. Two of their children were on the Gryffindor team... And not just any two, but the eldest and the youngest.
Amelia was thrilled for herself and her brother and she looked about the hall for her brother as she walked in. She didn't waste time heading to her class table and finding a place in her normal spot where she and the other fifth years sat.
No sign of her brother, but she could hear the chatter of the Great Hall in regards to the recent Daymoths as well as a few words about an attack. She didn't listen to greatly to it, unfortunately as she was putting food on her plate and eating all at the same time while doing it. The whole day had caused her to starve it seemed and now she was trying to get as much food into her as possible. Chicken was always a good choice, followed by some vegetables... Her mother would have probably been disappointed if she didn't eat her veggies. A smile curved onto her lips as she remembered the countless times she was told to eat the things. Over the years, there taste had grown better.
With a full plate, she began to eat and looked up only after she had eaten a whole chicken leg, having finally eaten to calm the hunger that had clawed at her belly.

Post by Tobias Twiggs on Feb 6, 2020 23:39:43 GMT 10
Tobias entered the great hall at a run, dodging past other students in a bid to get to the Gryffindor table, he only slowed down when the staff table came into view- walking the rest of the way in case someone decided to reprimand him for running. He was excited because he'd made the quidditch team that afternoon, he wondered how his sister had fared- of course she'd made the team, he was certain of it... But he had to double check, just to be sure.
Gaze flitting over the table, he found Amy sitting in her usual spot that was usually reserved for the fifth year students but he wasted no time in sliding into the seat opposite her anyway. "Did you make the team? You made the team right? Tell me you made the team!" no hello, no friendly words of encouragement- just a barrage of questions. If he'd actually stuck around to watch the rest of the try-outs then he would already know his sisters fate but now he was being forced to chase her up about it.
Looking around at the various options for dinner, he noticed that Amy had decided upon chicken and so started to spoon some chicken breast onto his own plate. Joining the chicken was a generous amount of gravy, mashed potatos and begrudgingly... some carrots (because his sister was watching). He was at least making the effort to eat some form of vegetable, although he stayed away from broccoli... yuck.
Amelia was putting a bite of some broccoli in her mouth when her brother slide into the seat next to her, nearly pushing her down the bench. Looking over at him, she put her fork down and wiped her mouth. "There you are." She said, matter of fact like, her face remaining as blank as possible as he rambled with his questions.
She didn't look at him, but took another bite of her chicken as she thought of the best way to respond to him. "Well, I just came back from the Owlry." She said in a mellow tone before she took another bite. "To let mum and dad know that they..." She let out a sigh, her eyes turned down before she looked at him.
"To let them know that they have not one... But two children on the Gryffindor team!" She said as a smile spread on her lips. Standing up, she attempted to bring Tobias up next to him. "EVERYONE! Meet Gryffindor New Seeker! Tobias Twiggs!" She called out to the whole Great Hall, a smile bright on her face as she looked at him.

Grace was thinking of how she would go about solving the puzzle and if she should sneak out at night to go and solve it. She'd had a few late nights in the short time she had been at the castle, and she didn't really desire more. She munched absentmindedly on some roast, sitting down at the Gryffindor table like the others.
She turned to Amelia, who had begun to yell, suddenly out of her thoughts. Though she had been at the tryouts when Toby was Seeking, she thought it nice to clap anyways. They were teammates after all. "Nice job, Twiggs!" she yelled out. And then she pondered whether she should have yelled 'Twiggses' or 'Twiggseses.' Or something along the line. Amelia was on the team too, after all. She settled for smiling at the pair of them.

Amara chewed her potatoes angrily, eyeing the younger years who dared converse so near where she was eating. She recognised Lindsey now, but still didn't care much for her company outside of the Quidditch Pitch. She was just a 3rd year, what use could she possibly...
Her eyebrows raised, overhearing the topic itself. Amara resumed eating her dinner in a dignified and proper manner, though listened to Lindsey's response and considered that perhaps there was some use to be considered. She'd been wanting someone to grow ingredients for her, and this might just be the opportunity she was waiting for. Still, a 3rd year? Was she really skilled enough.
At least the girl didn't have the nerve to sit too close. Amara eyed her for a moment, still clearly not in a very sociable mood. She drank some pumpkin juice then sighed. 'So,' she said pointedly. 'You're interested in Herbology?' Her tone suggested that refusing to answer wasn't a viable option for Lindsey.
Getting the kit wasn't that unusual, and some knew there were benefits to it yet didn't have any sort of passion for it. Amara needed someone who did have that passion and skill, as otherwise she couldn't be guaranteed to receive the best ingredients and promptly. She had high standards, after all - especially when they'd be used in her potions.

Jade entered soon after Amy, and followed her to the Gryffindor table. She didn't care much for where she sat, but figured Tiana would seek out those just as noisy and sociable as her. And she wanted to see the commotion Amy was going to make for her brother.
Serving herself whatever was nearest, Jade watched as the scene unfolded once Tobias joined them. She clapped a bit along with the others, but that was as far as her contribution went. She soon lost interest in Quidditch talk, preferring to resolve her own starvation than anything else.
Once things settled a bit more though, Jade glanced at Amy and leaned to nudge he in hope of gaining her attention. With her usual tactless, not-thinking-before-speaking manner, Jade pose a question that came to mind in regards to the new appointments on the team. 'Do you even have a broom?' Jade casually asked Amy, though Tobias was well in hearing range too so she glanced at him to be inclusive. 'Can you imagine, writing home to ask for two of them? It's a good thing none of your other siblings are also on the team, huh?'
Her intentions were mostly in jest and to start a conversation so dinner would go by quickly. Jade was busy deciding if she wanted gravy for not, and thus missed a few looks sent her way by nearby housemates that were aware of the Twiggs family not being the richest of Purebloods. Jade had a good heart, she just didn't always use her head when being bluntly honest about things or realising maybe she should reword something.
If Tiana were there, she'd have caught it and aided a recovery. Jade had improved over the years, but she wasn't perfect. Amy would likely know this was just how Jade was sometimes, but that didn't make her words sting any less if she'd been too blunt again.

As she ate, she turned around to the sound coming from the Gryffindor and smiled at the resulting students who seemed happy about making their own quidditch team. And a first year at that? Well, that was certainly something to be proud of, though she hoped the young seeker was truly as skilled as their captain thought. Amelia looked forward to going against the team in the coming match and returned to her own plate before she heard someone speaking to her.
Looking over at Amara, she gave the girl a kind smile and nodded as she swallowed a bit of her food. "Aye, I do... My ma is a herbologist and I'm in the garden with her daily back home." One could tell she was proud of herself slightly, though she tried not to brag about it. Lindsey loved Herbology and one could tell it. She remembered her seeds she had planted today and couldn't wait to get to see them tomorrow. "Does it interest ye, Captain?" She asked, wiping her mouth with a napkin, looking over at her from eyes of curiosity.

Mathias sat at the Ravenclaw table, quite near the front where he was able to glance at the staff now and again. He hoped there might be some clues in their expressions, but really there still wasn't a lot to go on. He'd heard some rumours and topics going around, but knew better than to assume any of that was fact or informative until there was more evidence to say so.
He picked at his dinner, not especially hungry. He'd let Nyx down and had to make it up to her, but was still a bit confused about why she'd reacted the way she had or what exactly he'd done wrong. He hadn't shown up to join her during a meal, so this time made sure he was one of the first to dinner in hope that she'd see it as a good sign. Of course, he hadn't taken into account that she might not spot him so far at the front, but he couldn't move now.
Mathias had some plans for things to work on in the common room that night, but also had some books to sort through, so was undecided about his exact plans. He hoped to spend some time with Nyx again as well, but worried maybe she was going to get sick of him soon. There was so much to think and worry about that it was hard for him to focus.
Avery dragged herself to the Slytherin table, not really in the mood for dinner but knowing she had to eat something or she'd regret it later. She spotted Lindsey, and was a bit horrified that she'd chosen to sit within range of Seabrook. Avery went to join her anyway, picking the side of Lindsey that was furthermost from the Captain.
'Hey,' she mumbled in half-attempted greeting, not wanting to ignore her... Were they friends? Avery couldn't remember if there was a confirmation of that or if she'd imagined it. She ate some vegetables, bored but attentive to her surroundings.
Having not found anything awfully exciting to do during the afternoon, Rubes wandered into the Great Hall. She scanned the table as she sat down, pondering what to have for dinner. Eventually, she settled on some chicken, chips and vegetables.
As she ate, she wondered what she might do for the evening. Maybe she'd just hang around the common room, even though that seemed rather boring. Surely there must be someone who'd like her to join them in doing something fun. Rubes gazed around the room. Perhaps, after she'd eaten, she'd go and introduce herself to someone new.

Tobias was impatient to learn of how his sister had done- surely she hadn't humiliated him by performing terribly? Nah, he'd already seen her hit that bludger once, she'd definitely made the team and if she hadn't... Well, he wasn't opposed to telling (or showing!) his new Captain how much of a mistake she'd made. However it seemed that he needn't have worried as the next words out of her mouth confirmed that they had both made the team! He gave an enthusiastic cheer as she pulled him to his feet and he hopped up onto the bench to give an over exaggerated bow before slipping back into his seat to finish his meal. "This is awesome! Gryffindor will be unbeatable with us on the team!" he began to enthusiastically tackle the rest of the food on his plate, scowling at the broccoli that Amelia seemed to have piled generously onto her own. He was just about to turn back to his sister and say something else when Jade spoke and he hesitated.
The smile dropped from his face and he looked at Amelia as if hoping that she'd offer him words of reassurance. Brooms were expensive, he knew that... And he knew that his family didn't have a ton of money compared to other purebloods, but surely they could afford to get them cheap brooms? It wasn't fair. If they didn't have brooms then they couldn't play...
Suddenly he wasn't hungry, pushing his plate of half eaten food forcefully away from him, not caring as this caused gravy to spill over the table- he grabbed his bag and stormed out of the hall in the direction of the common room. He had a letter to write and he didn't think he wanted to be around his sisters friends anymore.
Lindsey clapped for her brother as he jumped up on the bench and gave his bow. When she saw Grace join them, she attempted to pull her in for a side hug. "And you too!" She said proudly of the two young team-members. Once things were settled, she returned to her own chair and looked at her little brother as he began to eat and speak. As he spoke about being unbeatable, she patted his back and went on to eat some of her food before Jade spoke.
At the mention of a broom, Amelia didn't flinch, but one could see that her eyes took a turn downward slightly. "At the moment... No." She said blandly, trying not to let the red come to her cheeks as she thought about how she hadn't thought of this before. Now she was regretting trying out for the team... Her parents would be thrilled, of course, but to have to buy not one, but two brooms?
She was about to say something else when she noticed he pushed his meal from where he sat and left. "Toby!" She stood to follow, but stopped herself, letting out a breath before looking at his plate. Letting out a sigh, she rubbed the back of her next before sitting back down. "Grace?" She looked at the other first year. "If you see him before I do, don't let him go to his dorm... I think I'll need to talk to him." She said simply before she took another bite of her food, looking at his plate with a pain in her eyes.
Grabbing a napkin, she grabbed some meat, a few rolls and a apple for him. Shoving it in her bag, she figured he would be hungry sooner or later and didn't want him sneaking out to the kitchen. Looking at Jade, she smiled at her friend before she spoke. "I'll just have to talk to them and see what can be done... Or maybe talk to Tiana. She might have a solution for me... Maybe I can use a school broom or something... Besides, Toby need a good broom if he is going to catch that snitch." She said as she shoveled another bite of vegetables into her mouth.
