Continuing to eat her lunch, she rolled her eyes at Lucky's words- of course he would torment Nyx Nordstrom for pleasure. She shouldn't have really expected more from him. "You're gonna live to regret tormenting that girl one day" she warned the Quidditch Captain. He was playing with fire and one day he was going to get burned, it might not be Nyx who burned him, but it would catch up to him eventually.
Looking between the fourth year and Lucky, Elara smiled at how he seemed to trip over his words and not know quite what to say. Her amusement wasn't malicious, but she found it funny that anyone might be intimidated by the idea of talking with Lucky. The guy was so approachable... Annoying, but approachable.
When the conversation turned towards Quidditch, Elara couldn't help but perk up- her food forgotten for a moment "of course" she answered Lucky's question, scowling as if the answer should've been obvious. "I wouldn't miss it" and then she turned her attention back to her pasta and began to eat once again, just as Hanna sat down near the group.
"Behave!" she snapped at the Slytherin as she turned to Hanna- she was tired of her friend flirting with every Hufflepuff boy she saw, did Slytherin not possess attractive guys that could hold her attention? Apparently not. It was embarrassing.
"Afternoon, Nyx." He returned the pleasantry, nodding in her direction. Nyx Nordstrom was scary gorgeous, terrifyingly so. Many seemed to avoid her due to her mean temperament, but Kaspian didn't mind it. He could relate to her some. He couldn't manage a word however, not before his fool of a friend began to antagonize her. He wanted to facepalm himself, but only sunk into the Hufflepuff bench, feeling like he wanted to disappear. This wouldn't end well.
In fact, things became worse. After a head-on collision and a ton of apologies, a younger Hufflepuff scurried to pick up his things around the Ravenclaw Quidditch Captain. "Yeah, I'll be there." He snuck the words in, making an attempt to save the younger kid's life. He figured they'd work as a distraction. He didn't know why he felt inclined to help the boy as he didn't even know him. But any friend of Lucky's was a friend of his? Maybe. He wasn't sure yet.
Kaspian had scooted over on the bench, making plenty of room for Lucky to take his usual seat back. He took a couple bites of one of his sandwiches, watching as people trickled into the Great Hall, all flocking over to sit with Hufflepuff -- or more namely, Luckett Langford. His best mate was practically holding court. He had to be the most popular guy in the castle, at least in their year. "I wouldn't say she's a friend of mine." He responded to the fourth year, giving off a bit of a shrug. That wasn't to say Kaspian wouldn't mind being friends with Nyx Nordstrom.
"Shall we toast to your futurelosses?" He raised his sandwich at the approaching Slytherin girl, not entirely sure of her name either. He rarely sat with Hufflepuff, usually catching up with his best mate elsewhere -- if time permitted. It seemed like the Hufflepuff table was more of a house pride table however. All it was missing was a Gryffindor. There was still time though.

Grace had run up to her room as quick as she could to grab Marcia for lunch. She had discovered last night that the rat had a fondness for apples, so she was hoping they could bond over that. She'd never had a pet all to herself before. She sat down at her table as fast as she could, and turning to grab some food, noticed something. "Is that a pot of dirt?" Grace asked an older girl in her house who seemed to be carrying one, the one Tiana had addressed as Ames.
Then, realizing that she hadn't spoken to this girl before, Grace hurriedly held up her rat. "This is Marcia!" she declared, almost too eagerly, before remembering to be more gentle with Marcia. Well, today had been excited for her, and learning that there was something in the Vacant Corridor was still fresh in her mind as she tried to think of anything else. She might have thought to mention that she had been planning on trying out for Quidditch, had she not been thinking of Marcia and the Corridor.

Arthur was nearly late to lunch, he thought. Having made time to put his pot upstairs, as he was pretty sure the fourth years had a class, he was shocked to discover through the chatter of others that they had none. Well, now he would have to go up and grab that, when Lunch was over. At least he could get it done quickly, but he was worried that he wouldn't be able to keep his mind off of Quidditch tryouts, even though his team's weren't until tomorrow.
He came up, about to ask Lucky if he had any chance, despite Arthur's yearly horrible performance in nearly every aspect of the Quidditch game, except for riding the broom. He knew it was unlikely--none of the other captains had ever chosen Arthur. But Lucky seemed busy, so instead he sat down next to a small first year girl he didn't know. "Hello." he said, unsure if he was happy or sad, but taking a plate just the same. "I'm Arthur." he added.
Amelia looked up as Tiana came in, smiling at her as she spoke about try-outs and beamed when she came over and took her place with her at the table. When she asked how she was, Amelia picked up a sandwich and looked at it. "Much better now that I have some food... Care of Magical Creatures took it out of me... Which reminds me... I didn't see you at class; playing hooky without me?" She asked as she took a bite from the sandwich. Once asked if she was going to try out, her eyes seemed to burn to life. "You better believe it." She said to the captain.
As she grabbed a pear from the platter of food, she looked up at a younger girl, once that had recently been sorted this year and glanced down at her pot of dirt. "Yep, just got it from Mister Hagrid... Need it for that herbology kit." She said, taking a bit from the pear as she went back to look over at the captain of the team. Suddenly, she saw a rat held up near her and her eyes widened slightly, mostly from surprise and then amusement. "Nice to meet you, Marcia." She said, taking another bite of her pear before putting the core down on the place.
"Which reminds me... After potions today, I wanted to run this to the greenhouse... Think I'll have time to make it to the try outs or should I bring this thing with me?" She asked as she motioned towards the pot of dirt.
Declan almost spat out the water he was drinking upon hearing Lucky's suggestion. He shook his head wildly. "No, sorry, I'm not, I don't, I'd rather watch, really," he managed to muster. Then, he turned to Elara. "You, though." He pointed a fried drumstick at her direction. "You're pretty good with a broom, Ellie"
It wasn't that Declan was awful with a broom, but he wasn't the best either. He wasn't Lucky Langford. No one was Lucky Langford, though. Except the Lucky Langford.
It's just that you never know what could happen in a Quidditch match. So many things could go wrong. As the human embodiment of Murphy's Law, Declan made it a point to stay away from such highly entropic things.
And yet, he was considering it right there. It was true, what he said, he loved to watch Quidditch. He loved the cheering, the enthusiasm, the excitement of the games; it brought people closer together, and gave them something to root for and seek to destroy collectively.
Perhaps, it was pressure under the gaze of their quidditch captain that made him ask it. "When are tryouts?" He did enjoy flying and, he supposed, he was a fast learner, given the right teacher. Lucky Langford didn't look like a bad teacher. He didn't look like a bad anything. Declan just needed someone to show him the ropes and maybe he wouldn't get hit in the face by a bludger.
Realizing how his statement sounded, though, he immediately recoiled, "Because I wanna watch, is that okay?" He smiled at Lucky. "I'm just watching."
Ronan had slinked off and taken a nap a bit earlier, getting in some extra sleep, before using some free time to wander around wherever he needed just prior to lunch. He had gotten some extra studying in and general used his time in a few different ways. Though he felt like he'd had more time than he needed, he did miss his friends who all had their own business to take care of today. Here he was, back to lunch, he was getting hungry a bit anyway and figured he'd best get there as soon as possible.
He navigated his way to the great hall, finding his way through the entrance. He walked with confidence in his demeanor as he often did, feeling pretty good about how things would go today. He found his way over to the table where all the Gryffindor sat, the big topic of discussion today seemingly revolving around Quidditch and more. Ronan was obviously a bit excited about the whole thing himself, feeling pretty good about where this day was going to go!
He made it just in time to catch Tiana talking about tryouts this afternoon. "Wouldn't miss it, oh fearless leader." He said playfully as he plopped down and acquired the proper utensils to eat the food in front of him. He had taken a seat across from Tiana, as quite frankly he enjoyed the view and peered over to see the rest of the gang was mostly all here. He had heard some commotion from one of the other tables but chose to ignore it, preferring to remain in his own little Gryffindor world. He noted the girl introducing her rat, apparently and just smirked as well, then listened as Amelia spoke to someone.
Everyone was cheerful as always here, it seemed, that was good, he thought as he ate and listened to the conversation around the table.
Entering the Dining Hall, he looked around for the Person that the Deal-kid had mentioned. Gerald had forgotten to get an Owl for this, so unfortunately, he still had to send it by himself. He had so much Planned, including that special trip for later with Grace to the Hall of Mirrors. He had seen something like that in a Carnival once, so he was especially excited to see a Wizard's Hall of Mirrors.
Spotting the Girl at the Ravenclaw Table, he made his way over to her. Ew, why did she have so much Tomato on her Plate? Not wanting to be seen, though, He went to run past, and as he did, he dropped the Letter next to her, tapping her shoulder. Hopefully, she fell for that old trick and looked in the wrong direction, and she wouldn't notice him darting off in the opposite direction and sitting as far away as he could.
The letter to @nyx from Lucas Mardling (it's signed) reads as follows:
There's a personal matter I need to discuss with you.
Meet me in the Vacant Corridor tonight, during dessert. Come alone.
Lunch ended.
Food disappeared from the tables. Gryffindors were eagerly chatting among themselves and friends, in excitement for the upcoming try-outs.
Staff and students began to leave the hall. 2nd and 4th years were the only ones not in a rush, as they were fortunate to have an entire afternoon free from classes or school-related obligations.
Class threads are now available. If your character has a class, you must post there at least once to show their attendance before you can also have free time. Only 3rd years who are taking Care of Magical Creatures are required to attend.
Try-outs begin once Captain @tiana has made its thread at the Quidditch Pitch. Only Gryffindors may attend, if they genuinely want to join the team.

Lindsey had grabbed a simple sandwich as she sat at the Slytherin Table, her eyes kept darting to the door when she heard something going on and glanced over to see an old Ravenclaw and what looked like a Hufflepuff in some kind of confrontation, which didn't last long. Taking a few bites, she heard the Gryffindor Captain come in and announce about Try-outs and she smiled, mostly because her own try-outs had just ended and she had made the team. It was exciting and she was sure others were excited.
As she turned back to the door, she saw Hanna come in, but she was making a line for the Hufflepuff table, probably to see her friend, who sure enough was already sitting at her table. Well, Lindsey didn't want to eat alone. Grabbing the last sandwich, she headed over to the Hufflepuff table, stopping by the Gryffindor's table for a moment. "Good luck with ye Try-outs... Canna(can't) wait for our first match." Lindsey was honest about that and she gave all the Gryffindors a warm smile before she headed over to the table.
She got over there just as a boy asked an older Hufflepuff when Try-outs are. Finding a place at the table she plopped down. "Hello... Hope ye dinna(don't) mind if I joined ye... Dinna(don't) want to be sittin' by meself."
Elara watched as the boy almost choked on her water, a smile tugging at her lips at her flustered he became at the idea of trying-out for the quidditch team. "Oh, I know I'm good enough to make the team" she replied to him as he spoke of her brilliance on a broom- flying and quidditch really were the only subjects that illicited any semblance of arrogance from her, it seemed. The pair hadn't spoken much with each other considering they were in the same year- but Elara wracked her brain for a name and she was fairly sure he'd once introduced himself as Declan during class or when they'd both been up late in the common room.
"Listen Declan, we need all the good players we can get if we're gonna win the cup this year- you should at least try out and let Lucky be the judge on whether you're good enough to play" she didn't know if it was fear holding her classmate back or something else. She didn't know why he would be scared though, people rarely died playing quidditch, sure there were plenty of injuries but nothing that couldn't be fixed with a stay in the hospital wing. Worth the risk in her opinion.
She smirked when he apparently caved and asked when the try-outs were "Try-outs are tomorrow afternoon" she was expecting to see him there, hoping to- it would be nice to have someone in her year on the team.
Looking up as Lindsey approached the table, Elara offered the other girl a smile. She still wasn't sure what to make of the Slytherin, she'd obviously befriended Hanna and the girls seemed to like each other enough... As long as she didn't try to claim herself as Hanna's best friend (that was Elara's title), she knew that they could get along. "Hey Lindsey, not at all- You're welcome to join us" she said, although she knew classes would be starting soon and third years had a class if she was not mistaken.
Tiana was taking a drink from her goblet when Grace Babineaux showed up, practically shoving her pet rat across the table at Amelia. She made sure to move her goblet to the side when she placed it down, not wanting the rat to squirm free and land in her beverage. “She's a looker!” Tiana laughed, breaking off a piece of the baguette. She knew Grace wasn't introducing the pet to her, but Thomas couldn't help but compliment the creature. She wanted an animal for the longest, which is why she recently adopted an owl. She'd have to introduce others to him too!
She continued with her piece of bread, cracking it open. When she broke it, the yeasty warmth rose and filled her senses. Tiana smiled as she retrieved a knife, immediately diving into the butter. “I didn't sign up to take Care of Magical Creatures,” she said in reply to Amelia, a look of remorse on her face. Tiana wished she had, but didn't know why she didn't. “I wish I had. I don't know what I was thinking when I didn't,” she admitted honestly, beginning to spread the dairy product over the fluffy, white part of her bread. She listened to Amelia respond to her question about trying out, happy to hear that she was. The more that tried out, the better!
“Good! You better, Ro!” she blurted at Ronan when he arrived, before taking a big bite of her buttered baguette. She hadn't seen much of Ronan today.. or Jacob for that matter. And where was Jade? It seemed like the usual crew was busy doing their own things lately, but Tiana understood. She was busy herself, preparing to lead Quidditch tryouts and everything. “We were just talking about Creatures. You didn't enroll for that class either, did you?” she asked, swallowing her bread. She hoped he said he didn't, that way she wouldn't feel as bad about it.
“I wouldn't even bring the dirt to Potions, Ames,” she answered, looking at the pot of dirt the girl had seated next to her. Tiana couldn't imagine lugging around a big pot all day, especially all over the castle. Then again, that could prove to be an excellent workout for the upperbody! “You know how Snape is. He'll find any reason to dock Gryffindor some points,” she explained, rolling her eyes at her own words. Professor Snape was Tiana Thomas' least favorite teacher.
Food began to disappear from the tables, signaling the end of lunch. Tiana hopped up from her seat without pause, already climbing off of the bench and retrieving her bag from underneath it. “I'll see you two in class.. and then tryouts afterward!” she grinned at Amelia and Ronan, tossing her bag over her shoulder. She was already off in a hurry to class, ducking and weaving through bodies that stood in her way. Thomas wanted to get this Potions lesson finished with!
The young girl jumped as a voice came out of nowhere, her head snapping to the its place of origin only to come face to face with a Hufflepuff boy. She had seen him around but had never gotten the nerve to speak to him, or anyone really.
"Nice to meet you" Her voice was small and timid as she gave the new boy a small nod "My name is Charlotte" she continued as she finished her food, placing her knife and fork carefully on her plate before using her napkin to clean the corners of her mouth.
The space was silent for a moment as she sat next to the boy, her hands reaching for her stuff as the table cleared. She stood from her seat before placing her satchel over her shoulder, throwing an awkward wave at boy as a goodbye before leaving the great hall; she couldn't be late for class.

Arthur offered a friendly smile to Charlotte, about to start speaking of something when the table started to clear. "I'll see you later." he said, still smiling, and waved. He assumed she was just shy, but now that Lunch was over he would have the chance to talk with Professor Sprout, once he got his pot back, that was.
"Good luck in class!" he said cheerfully. Arthur liked to imagine he was greatly helpful to the younger years, and generally gave good advice. He did have mostly A's so far, and he was proud of that. Today felt like a good day, he just knew it.
Hanna continued to eat her food as the people around her spoke, barely listening to the conversation as she thought about what she could do after lunch; she could hang out with her friends or she could talk to Madame Pomfrey like she had been meaning too or something else. She looked up and smiled as Lindsey came over to sit with them before finishing her food.
Taking a sip of her drink she decided on going to talk to Snape about getting her potions kit, she had thought about asking about it for a while and now she had time too. As the food disappeared she quickly grabbed her stuff and stood from her seat before turning back to her friends.
"See you guys later" She threw another wink at the Hufflepuff boy, Declan, before messing with Luckys' hair as she moved away from the table "I'll come find you in a bit, Lara" she waved goodbye to her friend before leaving the hall.
