As lunch began, there was plenty of Quidditch-related chatter filling the Great Hall - with Slytherin gaining two new team members that morning, and now with Gryffindor's try-outs approaching. It seemed even some of the Professors were in similar discussion with Professor McGonagall.
Among the excitement though, there were still the occasional mention of the Auror reported missing in that morning's Daily Prophet. As well as continued theories as to what caused the situation with the Braxorns the night before.
Schedule Reminder(afternoon) 1st years - Charms 3rd years - Care of Magical Creatures 5th years - Potions
Amelia came into the Great Hall, carrying the pot of dirt she had only just received from Hagrid. Unfortunately, she would not have time to get it to Professor Sprout before class, but maybe on her way to Quidditch Try-outs? It would be very tight, but it was possible. She might be a little late. Glancing around, she went straight for the Gryffindor table, passing other students as she did and found a place near the middle of the table. Grabbing some food from the platters before her, she sat out to eating.
Having barely made it in time to Breakfast this morning, she was starving and it showed as she dug into the food onto her plate. The girl still remembered her manners, but she quite a bit and looked up for any of her fellow housemates.

The try-outs had gone great and she walked into the Great Hall beaming from ear to ear. People would be seeing the new Chaser for the Slytherin Team, though she did feel a little defeat after having all three attempts at a score blocked by their new Keeper(and part seeker), Hanna. Lindsey was going to have to get some training done, but for now, she was hungry after all that on the pitch and she made a bee-line to the Slytherin Table and found a place at the middle of the table.
Glancing around, she looked for Avery, hoping to share the news with her friend, but didn't see her yet, so placed her cloak and stuff down on the seat next to her, hoping to save it in case a lot of housemates came in. If Lindsey saw Avery come in, she would quickly move her things and motion her to sit with her, but if she didn't, she hoped Avery would stop long enough to let her move her things. She kept looking up from her food because of this.
Taking some of the food from the platters, she put them on her place and began to eat, thinking about the plans for this afternoon. She had Care of Magical Creatures, which meant maybe they would get to see or hear about the Braxorns from the night before.
Kaspian was elated to have the green light from Professor Snape. If he could collect all five ingredients within the next day or two, he would gain access to the student laboratory. He was enjoying the idea of creating and making potions -- maybe even selling them to the highest bidder. He didn't know how far he'd take the hobby, but he was at least interested in starting. Kash could take it on and realize it wasn't for him too. But he wouldn't know until he tried.
He emerged at ground level by way of a dungeon stairwell -- with Lucky not too behind him, somewhere or another. At least that's what he figured. They had been talking and walking, so he only assumed his best mate wasn't too far behind. He moved past any students that blocked the entrance to the Great Hall, eager to serve himself a plate of food. He was hungry, more than usual. His excitement over being able to ingredient hunt might have been the cause.
Kaspian had to stop himself when he first entered the dining hall, redirecting himself toward Hufflepuff's table. He was sitting with Lucky this afternoon to go over their plan of attack after Potions. When he arrived at the Badgers' table, he sat where Lucky normally did and began to grab himself a couple sandwiches. If he got any looks because of his blue robes, Kash prepared an equally confused expression. "What? Have you never seen a hungry Ravenclaw before?"
Nyx couldn't help but think about the incident she had just been part of. After leaving class, she went from innocently searching for ingredients to battling a Crystal Daymoth. Needless to say, this morning had already been far too eventful—even for her. More than that, she'd have to tell Mathias about everything that happened. It was going to be long–winded, but she knew the Ravenclaw boy to be a good listener, believing he'd be patient with her as she went over every detail of the occurance. Nyx didn't know why she felt a need to tell him, but wanted to.
After her journey from the grounds, she finally entered the castle, maneuvering through any groups of students that so happened to be in her way. She had forgotten to ask what Mathias planned to do this morning, but figured he'd fill her in at lunch. That was, if he was even there before her. She asked him to save her a seat, but there was always the chance that she'd end up saving him one instead. Either way, it didn't matter. When she reached the archway to her destination, she crossed underneath it, beginning to search for the handsome boy's face.
But then, she spotted another face altogether—one she wanted to speak to. Kaspian Kettles. Nyx began to shuffle through the crowd, making her way toward the Huffepuff table. Wait, why was he sitting there, anyway? She rolled her eyes, only assuming it had something to do with the absolutely obnoxious Luckett Langford. "Kettles," she simply stated in greeting, only just arriving to where he was. She didn't plan on taking a seat, but continued to speak. "I trust you're considering trying out for Quidditch tomorrow?" she asked, holding eye contact.
Declan literally stumbled into the great hall with his whole face in his charms book. This was a thing he'd been trying to master: exclusively using his sense of smell for navigation. Swerving right to avoid some first year with body odor, walking forward towards the sinful smell of fried chicken (or fish, he was working on the specifics still), stopping in his tracks at the whiff of oranges, walking back a few steps to the aroma of fresh, hot pastries, heading to the heavenly fragrance of loyalty and goodwill that is the Hufflepuff table... and then slamming into someone and dropping everything on the floor in a single, smooth, but pathetic motion. See, the key word was trying to master.
"Oh my god, I am sorry," He put his book down and picked up all the food from the ground. "I am terribly, terribly sorry."
He put all the food on the Hufflepuff table and went immediately to the person he just slapped with the spine of his Charms textbook. "Are you okay? I'm so sorry."

Lucky had traveled alongside Kaspian the entire way, up the dungeon stairwell and through the hordes of hungry students. 'Everyone is considerably chatty today, eh?' He made mention of it to Kaspian, as the pair entered the dining hall. It wasn't surprising though. There had been a lot going on. The tumultuous event last night still appeared to be on people's lips, paired with excitement over the Quidditch season. But who wouldn't be excited about Quidditch starting?
'That's my seat. Get your own, mate.' Lucky pushed his whole weight onto the bench, trying to nudge Kaspian aside in an attempt to take back his usual seat. He didn't mind his Ravenclaw friend sitting with him, but if he was going to sit at his table, he was going to have to abide by his rules. Well, not really. But it sounded awesome to think of it that way. He followed his friend in making a plate, piling on a bunch of starches; carbohydrate loading for tomorrow.
He didn't even notice when Nyx Nordstrom arrived, but when he did, he made a spectacle out of it. He dropped his plate, dramatizing his excitement over her appearance. 'My, oh, my! To what do we owe this pleasurablehonor, Nyx?' He grinned, casting her a wink. He loved teasing her -- only because she seemed to hate every fiber of his being. 'You're looking quite lovely today. Bewitching, even.' He plopped down into his seat and forked some of his potatoes.
It was bad enough that she knew she was standing near the Hufflepuff table, but what made matters worse, was that now everyone knew she was standing near the Hufflepuff table. Nyx groaned in annoyance as an unfamiliar boy slammed into her side, causing the strap of her satchel to flop near her elbow. She promptly checked her vestments for any traces of food–like debris, griping under her breath. "Ugh! Watch where you're going," she angrily spat at the Hufflepuff boy, jerking the collar of her Ravenclaw robes more securely around her clavicle.
But it didn't stop there. Luckett Langford had to chime in. "Bugger off, pillock," she fumed at Langford, giving him the dirtiest look she could muster. This was why she avoided most tables other than her own. She didn't understand why Kaspian Kettles—an intelligent Ravenclaw with potential—associated himself with Luckett Langford, let alone decided to converse and eat with Hufflepuff. "I expect to see you there, Kettles. Your talents could be of use this year," she said after regaining her composure. She turned to glare at the fourth year, before leaving.
Nordstrom swept past the group of Hufflepuff boys, her robes rippling behind her in hues of black and blue. She resumed her search for Mathias Sallow, but couldn't seem to locate him. With a defeated sigh, she took position at her own table, settling into a spot where Mathias could easily spot her when he arrived. She prepared herself a plate, portioning a heavy amount of leafy greens and tomatoes onto it. Nyx was especially hungry, not at all surprising after dealing with Snarlpogs, Braxorns and Crystal Daymoths in one morning. That was a lot.
Okay, he deserved that, Declan thought. He picked up his Charms book from the ground and slumped into the Hufflepuff table with a sigh. He took one of the croissants he dropped on the floor and shoved it into his mouth. Five second rule.
Beside him was the captain of their Quidditch team, Lucky Langford. He was a superhero in the field. He seemed to move at the speed of light, and yet it was impossible to miss him. Everyone was counting on him to bring Hufflepuff the Quidditch Cup this season. So, Declan found it not just appropriate but absolutely necessary, as in it was his civic responsibility as a Hufflepuff, to wish their captain good luck.
The problem was that Lucky Langford was practically a celebrity around here, especially at the Hufflepuff table, so instead of a well-phrased and well-delivered well-wishing, Declan came out with, "Hey, um, since everyone's getting hyped for Quidditch, good luck to us, I mean, to you, like, to your team, our team. You know." The other problem was that he still had croissant in his mouth.
After finally swallowing, he motioned to Nyx Nordstrom, the Ravenclaw quidditch captain and the person he just hit with his charms textbook. "By the way, sorry about your friend," he said to Lucky's Ravenclaw companion with a flustered smile.
Tiana had started the morning in the common room, but when things became too loud, she moved to the quiet of her dormitory. She spent the whole time laid out on her bed, ideas and diagrams sprawled out on top of the mattress. Tiana intermixed between different play ideas, coming up with strategies for the upcoming season. She needed to come up with a tryout plan, but it didn't hurt to get a head start on already putting together team formations and plays. It was safe to say Thomas was prepared for that! And she needed to be, facing Slytherin first.
She shoved all parchment featuring Quidditch scribbles into her bag, making sure not to forget her Potions textbook. She wasn't going to let the dread over class with Professor Snape ruin her good mood though. She was holding Gryffindor Quidditch tryouts afterward! This was a time to be excited! She rushed from her dorm, trying to find Jade who she'd seen a few times since breakfast. Maybe she was already at lunch? Ti continued and hurried through the portrait.
“Hello, everyone! Gryffindor Quidditch tryouts are this afternoon!” Tiana announced when she finally entered the Great Hall, mainly toward her table of Gryffindors. She was thrilled to be sitting with peers of her own kind again. Even though she had only sat with Ravenclaw once that morning, she didn't ever want to do it again.. not unless her best friend asked her to.
Thomas entered when she heard commotion over by the Hufflepuff table. The commotion was a loud groan of annoyance. She rolled her eyes when she noticed it came from Nyx Nordstrom, and then proceeded to be on her way. She arrived at the Gryffindor spread and happily took a seat beside fellow fifth year, Amelia Twiggs. “How do you do, Ames,” Tiana beamed at the girl, slinging her bag onto the floor beneath their bench. “Are you planning to tryout for Quidditch later?” she asked, pouring herself some pumpkin juice and filling the big goblet to the brim.
Entering the Great Hall, Elara made a beeline for the Hufflepuff table- determined to get some food in her belly before something prevented her from eating, like a food fight or a braxorn prison break. There was always a chance of something going wrong at meal times and she wasn't about to survive off of sandwiches for the rest of the school year. However something made her slow her pace and cast a look towards the Slytherin table as if debating on if she should join Hanna there and enjoy some drama free food with Lindsey and Avery? The blue robes of a Ravenclaw standing by the table usually wouldn't have been worth a second glance to Elara, but it was the person wearing the robes that made her cautious.
Nyx Nordstrom wasn't exactly known for her friendly disposition and the fact that she seemed to be conversing with Lucky, meant that she was probably in a bad mood (or else currently being worked into one). As she watched, Elara gasped softly when a Hufflepuff boy that she recognised from class, proceeded to walk directly into the Ravenclaw Quidditch Captain. Elara was too far away to hear what words were exchanged between the pair but she was sure it was nothing pleasant.
When the Ravenclaw moved away from the table, Elara moved in- heading directly for where she noticed Lucky was sitting and took a seat opposite the familiar boy. "Honestly Lucky, must you antagonise her?" were the first words from her mouth as she began to pile pasta in a creamy sauce onto her plate. She didn't know why she bothered asking, of course he had to take every opportunity to wind Nyx up- she was sure it gave him some kind of high.
Turning her attention to the fourth year boy sitting beside Lucky, Elara smiled and just about managed to hold back her laughter at the implication that the quidditch captains were friends. "Oh, don't mind her... She's always in a bad mood, you'd think someone had kicked her puppy or something" she began to eat her pasta eagerly, whilst looking between the three boys sitting opposite her. "Next time though... Might pay to look where you're going, there are worse people you could bump into" and he might not be so lucky as to get away with it next time.
Freya walked with a quiet, coordinated efficiency. She had left class in a good mood, happy to have had the opportunity to meet and communicate with a Snarlpog. The creature was rare and many people lived their lives without so much as seeing one. She smiled at the thought of the animal she had sketched, already missing his sweet face. 'Where, oh where to sit today.' She hummed the words under her breath, making her way into the largely populated hall.
'Hello, Nyx.' She smiled when she arrived to the Ravenclaw table, taking a seat across from her dormmate. Freya considered the pair of them friends. Well, to an extent. They were around one another a lot, but Nyx didn't seem to want to spend any extra time with her - not like she did with Mathias Sallow anyway. 'That was a fascinating Care of Magical Creatures lesson, wasn't it?' She tried to start a chat with the icy-looking girl, making an effort to converse.
She reached for the fishiest thing on the table, wanting a plate of fish and chips for lunch. Freya loved anything of the seafood variety, especially fish. Freya slid a battered filet onto her plate, unknowing if it was cod, haddock or something else entirely - but it didn't matter. She took her knife and fork to it, cutting it into small, thin pieces. 'I'm looking forward to try-outs tomorrow.' Something told Freya that the Ravenclaw Quidditch Captain would appreciate that.
Her hands were at her sides and her head low as she stepped into the hall, her eyes taking a quickly look round before she moved to sit at her table. Charlotte took a seat at the end of the table, closest to the door in hopes that if the hall got too crowded then she could make a run for it.
There was an array of food in front of her and she didn't realise how hungry she was, quickly placing a napkin over her lap and carefully placing food on her plate. She placed a few potatoes and some meat before pouring some gravy over the top, being carful not to splash any on the table or herself. Her hand reached for her knife and fork before she slowly cut up her food and began to eat.

Lucky had just taken a swig of his beverage, before nearly spitting it up in a fit of laughter. Why did it always seem like every meal at Hogwarts came with free entertainment? 'Nice one, mate.' He laughed at the fourth year, wiping his mouth in the process. Nyx didn't seem too pleased by what happened -- but did anyone expect anything different? Nyx Nordstrom always acted like she was upset about something. This wasn't anything out of the ordinary for her.
'Yeah, Kash. Your talents could be of use this year.' He mocked the platinum-haired girl after she left the table, attempting to mimic her movements. Lucky perceived her usual motions as snooty, with a couple flicks of the wrist and a hair toss. He looked like an arse, but undoubtedly earned a couple laughs from a few of his housemates. 'I must, Elara. And why? Because it's such a bloody good time.' Langford cocked a smirk, taking another bite of his diced potatoes.
He became amused by the fourth year, listening as the boy stumbled over his words. Was he nervous or something? Lucky could only assume it was because the boy was in his presence. He was Hufflepuff Quidditch Captain after all, and maybe this kid wanted to tryout. 'Yes, I concur. Good luck to us.' He winked at the boy seated next to him, before taking another drink from his goblet. 'Trying out?' He asked the boy and Elara King, glancing between the two.
As Hanna entered the hall her eyes ran over the tables, Lindsey was sat at the Slytherin table so she could go join her or she could hang at the Hufflepuff table. Her eyes scanned the other table landing on a few familiar faces, how had Lara gotten here before her? she was just out there. With a shake of her head she made her way over, throwing a wave at Lindsey and gesturing towards the Hufflepuff table as to say she could join us.
"Hey Lara, Captain..." Hanna took the seat near Lucky as she greeted the two before her eyes landed on the other Hufflepuff, she hadn't met him before but she had seen him in a couple of her classes. "Cutie" She threw a wink to the boy before she poured herself some juice and plated some food.
