"Secret new dorm?" Grace added on, more of a hope than an actual theory, "So maybe they're trying to show us who split up the houses? But that doesn't make sense either...how would they know?" Grace pondered this out, deciding eventually that it wouldn't work. Or maybe there were some secrets about the castle and the Founders she didn't actually know. She just thought of them as a bunch of old dead folks who liked students to be one way or the other.
"A tour? To see other houses?" Grace considered that. It was plausible, she supposed. They could be like a small club. "That sounds cool."
Last night was a lot. Tiana spent most of the night tossing and turning, and not because she was uncomfortable, but because she was wrestling with Jade's revelation. Her best friend was her enemy's first cousin? That was a lot. It was going to take some getting used to! Now, Tiana found herself in a predicament of having to sit with Nyx Nordstrom. She would have outright said no if this had been someone else proposing the idea, but this was Jade Arwell. This was Tiana's best friend. She couldn't say no. She had to do this, she had to try and make an effort.
She found comfort in Jade telling her that she came first. It looked like if it came down to making a choice, Jade would choose Tiana. That was the only option.. right? Tiana believed herself to be more family to Jade than Nyx could be. That's how she saw Jade at least. Tiana wasn't very close to her own family, but very close to Jade. She considered Jade a sister! What could Nyx have with Jade that Tiana couldn't? Bloodlines? That was nothing! Actions spoke louder than words and blood! Tiana was the one that was there for Jade since the beginning.
Tiana continued to think about how the morning could play out: it could be awkwardly pleasant with both girls putting on their best behavior for Jade or it would end up in a screaming match with Jade storming off. Tiana really didn't want the latter, so she was going to do her best. For Jade. If the tables were turned, Tiana would expect her best friend to do the same for her.
With a bit of a sulk, Tiana made her way down to the Great Hall. It was already busy, and she waved and smiled at some of her housemates as they walked in. But her mind was still trying to wrap around the idea of asking Nyx Nordstrom to pass the breakfast potatoes. “This is for Jade, this is for Jade,” she kept repeating under her breath, low enough that nobody could hear her. Tiana was pacing beside the doorway, waiting for her best friend to join her before she made her way inside. Tiana had never wanted to skip breakfast her whole life.. until now.

Elara looked between her best friend and the younger Slytherin girl, she hadn't even realised that Hanna had a companion in her excitement over the Quidditch news. "Oh Hanna! You must try out!" she exclaimed upon hearing the other girl express that she wasn't planning on even attempting on making her house team.
"Amara can't be that bad, not bad enough to miss out on quidditch!" but then, to Elara- nothing was worth missing out on Quidditch. Besides, if Hanna made it onto the Slytherin team and she also got lucky (although the only thing lucky about her performance would be the quidditch captain deciding her fate) and made the Hufflepuff team, then they'd have their own fun with their own personal competition.
Dark gaze flickering back to the younger Slytherin girl, she seemed to be a friend of Hanna's- although Elara was sure they'd never had a conversation before. "Who's this?" she asked, posing the question both to Hanna and to the girl who was the subject of her attention.

When Hanna told her she hadn't gotten as far as she would have liked, Lindsey gave her a sad face. She enjoyed a good book too, though she hadn't read in quite a while. Her mother enjoyed books as well and had been currently reading a romance novel that she refused to allow Lindsey to read yet. The woman was always reminding Lindsey she needed to be older before reading such a subject and Lindsey was always trying to sneak a read.
When the Hufflepuff came over and began making herself comfortable, Lindsey listened to some of the conversation, a bit sad that Hanna was not planning on joining the team either and mostly due to Amara. Lindsey was about to encourage her to try-out anyway, when the Hufflepuff spoke up first. As she spoke of Amara not being that bad, even Lindsey had to honestly wonder herself. Amara always seemed kind of mean to even her, but she never spoke it personally.
When her attention came to Lindsey, she looked up at her and smiled. "Oh, me? I'm Lindsey Bryce... Third year." She said as she put another bite of her food, spoon in mouth as she picked up her schedule finally to check it over again. She had really been hoping for a free morning, but figured it was just best to get over it. "Anyway, ye should try out, Hanna... Ye dinna(don't) have to like Amara, just put up with the lass." She said in her thick Highland accent after she removed the spoon.
His hand had felt gentle, caring. It had been clear that Mathias didn't want their time together to end, just as much as Nyx. She had woken with a sigh on her pillowy lips, thinking of she and Mathias' interaction the night before—their hanging out with Bjorn, too. It was all so special. It was a moment she wouldn't forget. She had taken her time getting up to get ready, reaching to pet Bjorn here and there, humming all the while. Nyx was in a pleasant mood. She made sure she was neat as a pin, before providing some food and water for her floofy Persian cat.
After that, she was out the door. In a rare occurrence, Nyx shared a couple smiles with her Ravenclaw housemates in the common room, before making her way into the corridor. She meandered through the castle, thinking of all the future interactions she could have with Mathias. The opportunities seemed endless, their interactions boundless. She already missed him, hoping that each time she stepped off a staircase or rounded a nearby corner, she'd see him. Mathias Sallow. Her heart fluttered at the thought. She hoped to see him at breakfast.
Nothing could possibly ruin her good mood, right? Wrong. The very moment Nyx turned to face the dining hall entry, she spotted Tiana Thomas. It was today; this was the morning Nyx was supposed to have breakfast with her cousin and her cousin's best friend. Ugh. Nordstrom picked up her casual pace, not even wanting to stop and greet her rival. In fact, she acted as though she wasn't even there. Nyx ignored Tiana completely. She strode into the Great Hall and immediately made her way toward the Ravenclaw table, without so much as a single word.
Nyx sat herself at an empty spot at the table, reaching to pocket some nuts. It was great to stockpile ingredients she already had, but it only reminded her that she needed to find two more unique ingredients for Professor Snape. She'd have to do so at some point that morning. Nordstrom briefly glanced around the dining hall, noticing Thomas by the doorway again. She unfolded her napkin with polite unconcern and draped it over her lap. She vowed to converse more with Jade than Tiana, because if she did with the latter, it'd end up an argument.

Downing a glass of juice, Hanna watched her friends as they tried to convince her to at least try-out for the quidditch team. She forced a smile as she nodded along, Amara wasn't really the reason why she wasn't trying out but it was a good excuse.
"Okay, okay... I'll think about it, I have until after charms" She hoped it'd get them of her back and maybe, just maybe, charms class would run late, "That's plenty of time to decide and anyway if I did try-out we'll be playing against each, Lara" Hanna tried to reason with her friend before coming up with a way to change the subject.
"What position are you guys hoping for anyway?"
She could guess which one Elara was hoping for, having known her for years and having to listen to her talk about it every year, but she didn't know what Lindsey was hoping for. This was the perfect opportunity to get the topic of her, hopefully long enough for any mail to get here.

It was the start of the season, folks. Quidditch season, that is. Lucky was all smiles and teeth, acknowledging and saluting his housemates as he wandered the castle. Many of them seemed interested in trying out for the Hufflepuff team, and while that wouldn't take place today, it was good to know many of his open positions were sought after. Today, however, was all about Gryffindor and Slytherin -- two teams that would need all the players they could get to take him on. Lucky knew this was Hufflepuff's year. It was their time to take home the coveted cup.
His stride was erect, his jawline confidently firm. His hazel eyes scanned the Great Hall when he entered, trying to locate his people. Hufflepuff. Heh. Lucky knew the second he sat down, he'd be bombarded with questions about his captaincy. It was a never ending conversation. But he didn't mind. Luckett Langford loved Quidditch. He lived and breathed it. But maybe this time Sophia would be around to help strategize some. Lucky treasured her Quiddy-oriented brain.
'What's up, guys?' Lucky dropped onto the bench and nabbed himself a biscuit. He buttered it generously, before dunking it in a shared container of strawberry jam. He probably shouldn't have done that, but he didn't care. Lucky was the captain. He smirked to himself, taking a big bite and wiping his mouth. 'Anyone planning to tryout for the team this season?' Again, he knew his team's tryouts weren't today, but it didn't mean they couldn't talk about it.
Listening to the younger girl introduce herself, Elara found it hard not to notice the thickness of her Scottish accent. Why hadn't Hanna mentioned this girl before if they were such good friends? Why was she only meeting her now? Elara found the whole situation confusing, but she was at least in agreement with the third year- who seemed almost as determined to persuade Hanna to go for Quidditch as she was.
"Yeah, that's the point" Elara laughed at Hanna's observation that they'd be on different teams. "I'd love to kick your ass on the pitch" those were fighting words, but there wasn't anything wrong with a little friendly competition, it was healthy.
Shovelling more eggs and bacon into her mouth, she almost choked in her eagerness to answer Hanna's question, but managed to force herself to swallow what she had in her mouth before answering. "Chaser, obviously!" she assumed that the question was mainly aimed at Lindsey because Hanna had known what position she preferred to play since they were in their first year.
Looking back at Lindsey, Elara figured she'd better do the decent thing and introduce herself, it would save a whole lot of confusion in the long run and besides... If she was rude to Hanna's new BFF, confrontation would be imminent. "Elara King, so... How long have you two been hanging out?" what happened in the Slytherin common room was never discussed among the friends, but then Hanna never really expected Elara to spill her house secrets either.
Mungo was a bit unsure of perching on Lindey's arm, allowing her to transport him as promised, but decided it saved him the stress and effort of having to find his own way out - while students bustled and chatted on their way to the Great Hall. He lingered long enough to hear what Lindsey said, then took flight - making a break for freedom outside.
Breakfast progressed like any other morning, though with continued excited chatter regarding the start of the Quidditch season. After a while, the screeches of owls were - and hundreds of them flew into the Great Hall. They delivered letters or packages from home, and of course that morning's issue of the Daily Prophet.

Yawning and with her stomach grumbling, Rubes made her way into the Great Hall for breakfast. She definitely wasn't a morning person, preferring to stay in bed for half the morning rather than getting up early.
"Morning."
Slipping into a spare seat at the table, Rubes filled a bowl with some cereal and poured herself a glass of juice before looking over her schedule for the day. First class was History of Magic followed by Charms in the afternoon. She'd been looking forward to learning Charms, but was a bit sceptical about History of Magic, as her older siblings had often told her it was the most boring subject. Of course, they could be wrong. It was entirely possible that Rubes would enjoy that particular class. She'd have to wait and see.

Having been best friends for years, Jade and Tiana had adopted similar sleeping habits - so if one was awake, then the other would surely be soon too. Not that they were against swatting each other with a pillow if need be. Cruel, but effective. Luckily, that wasn't necessary today.
Tiana left the Gryffindor tower first, as Jade had to do battle with her hairbrush after having dropped it on her foot. She wasn't awake enough for grooming tasks early in the morning, yet had to endure them anyway. Once she looked good, Jade grabbed her things and hurried after Tiana - trying to fix her tie along the way.
'Mornings would be so much easier if they didn't make us wear five hundred things a day,' Jade muttered to Tiana as she joined her outside the Great Hall, still fussing her her tie. 'You ready?' She reached to nudge her best friend, unable to put into words how thankful she was. Jade wasn't one known for her apologies or gratitude. It once took her an hour to apologise for almost hitting Jacob with a runaway book cart when they were studying together last year. Even then it was poor at best.
'Morning, cousin,' Jade quipped, then winced at her own pitiful attempt to lighten the mood as she sat across from Nyx at the Ravenclaw table. 'Er, nice views?' She glanced at the windows. She made sure there was space next to her, so Tiana could sit there instead of beside Nyx. No point in tempting fate.
Jade fussed over what he have for breakfast, not really wanting anything in particular. She tried to peek at Nyx's breakfast to see if they liked the same things, but the toast rack was in the way. She grabbed an apple and supposed that would do, yet pocketed it for later in case she couldn't decide on breakfast. Jade was too nervous, and even sitting at another house table felt too weird after spending four years at Gryffindor. She and Tiana had friends in Hufflepuff that they sat with occasionally, but this was different.
'Great weather for Quidditch, eh?' Jade paused to sip her pumpkin juice, glancing between the two captains. She tried to hide it well, but they'd both likely see how nervous she was as she really wanted this meal to go well. She opened her mouth to discuss Gryffindor's try-outs that afternoon, but decided against it since Nyx was Tiana's rival in that regard.
Thankfully, the arrive of owls and their morning post was a welcome break in the awkwardness for Jade. She wasn't usually too bothered with the Daily Prophet, but snatched it this time and read through. 'Bloody hell,' she muttered. 'I heard he was a great Auror too. How does something like this happen?' She then instinctively passed it to Tiana, before remembering Nyx. Did she have to choose between them every time? Ugh, this was worst than she'd imagined.
She'd only barely remembered not to ask Nyx if she had any close friends besides Kat Maples. That was impressive for Jade, who usually said whatever was on her mind.

Avery headed to the Slytherin table, not caring about the Quidditch talk or anything else. She hadn't slept well and looked it, still yawning as she sat by Lindsey. She then noticed that might be unwelcome, as Lindsey was chatting with two other girls. Then Avery recognised them and sighed, rolling her eyes as she reached for some cereal.
She didn't bother looking up when the owls arrived, never expecting anything from home. As usual, she was right. There was the Daily Prophet though, which Avery used as a way of trying to wake herself up a bit. Now she was surprised not to have heard from her father, who worked at the Ministry. Then again, since when did he tell her anything?
She hoped the Auror was found soon though, and that he was okay. It was scary to think that a wizard who was supposed to protect them could go missing like that. Or maybe he was just more rubbish at his job than people said?
Avery had a lot of thoughts, but shared none of them with the other girls. Lindsey was a rare exception to her ability to be social, which faded fast when she saw how easy others could just talk to each other. What if Lindsey was friends with them or became friends with them, then forgot all about Avery? Not that she could blame her, really. Hanna and Elara were nice, from what Avery remembered, and she was certainly not nearly as fun to talk to.
She moodily ate her cereal in quiet, then focused on memorising her timetable for the day. Potions was an unpredictable experience for her, but at least Care of Magical Creatures had potential to be fun. The last one was really good.

'Quidditch,' Sophia said loudly from behind Lucky, reaching to grab his shoulders in excitement - though one could easily confuse it with a bear-claw attack of some sort. No doubt she'd scared the life out him, but she barely paid attention to see if that was the case.
She dropped into the seat beside him, her grin and eyes wide as if she'd been inhaling some weird potion fumes. Nothing excited her more than Quiddich, even if their team wasn't doing anything until the next day. But the season had started!
'Oh Merlin, there's so much to think about,' Sophia babbled, too excited to eat yet or pay any notice to the owls swooping around the hall to deliver things. 'Lucky, you have to talk strategy with me. I mean, I am on the team - so there's no excuse, right? We have to win this year. Just imagine - Slytherin and Amara Seabrook, defeated by the Great Luckett Langford and his super-awesome team.' She could hardly sit still.

Jacob dragged himself into the Great Hall, his hair a mess and his slouch showing every sign that he'd almost overslept. He would have too, except he'd stupidly remembered to set his alarm the night before. Like a fool.
Yawning widely and without any ounce of manners, he plopped himself at his semi-usual spot at the Gryffindor table and considered his meal. Jacob blinked, pausing. He frowned, looking around at the empty seats. Where the heck was everyone?
'I have no friends,' he whined, ever the over-dramatic been that he was. To drown his sorrows and loneliness and hatred of alarm clocks that actually worked, Jacob piled bacon onto his plate and started eating. He could practically hear his mother's continued horror at his life choices, but whatever. He tried to appease it by reading up on the news, though almost choked on his bacon when read the title.
'Have you seen this? This bloke is actually missing now, what? I didn't even know...' Jacob said, to no one. 'Oh yeah. Suddenly abandoned.' He huffed, returning to his bacon. He skimmed some other articles but quickly grew bored of them. Seriously, where was everyone? If at least Ronan didn't sit with him soon, he'd have to go find his friends. Ugh, but the effort!
Killed by Devin Kudosen by act of the Killing Curse. June #24, RPG year 1 -- he was a 5th year Gryffindor. Jacob died to save his best friend, Luckett Langford.

Amara strode into the Great Hall with confidence and grace. She'd opted for not wearing robes again, which was becoming a habit she hadn't expected yet found rather useful. She almost wished she had worn them though, as it could benefit her entrance - much like Snape's billowing robes always made him look more impressive. Oh well, she didn't need robes to achieve that.
'For anyone who's been living under a rock, try-outs are this morning - as soon as classes are done,' Amara said to any Slytherin she passed, then to the entire table once she'd arrived. She steered clear of some younger girls chatting together, instead picking a spot where she could remind people that Captain or not, she didn't appreciate small talk or having people in her face.
There were so many things she needed to do and think about. Amara glared at the Gryffindor table, only to realise Thomas wasn't there yet. She glared at Langford instead, then frowned in surprise as she spotted Thomas over by Nyx. Huh? That was a question for another time.
She served herself a healthy breakfast, already running strategies through her mind for the upcoming try-outs - pausing only to read an interesting article in the Daily Prophet about potion patent changes, not caring at all for some stupid Auror who got in over his head.
