An active, character-driven Hogwarts experience set in the early 2000s. Unique items, plots, and features. Non-canon; this isn't Harry Potter's story, it's ours.
October arrived with a sunny morning, though there was a moderate chill in the air. The staff at the head table were already deep in conversation by the time students began to enter, though Professor Fairburn was rumoured to have left early to check in on the Braxorns. There was some news that an orphaned Braxorn had been accepted by a new mother, and thus both where thriving.
Chatter of the Cyrstal Daymoth outbreak was still a notable topic, though it had died down considerable in light of recent events on the grounds the night before. Many were busy speculating who or what could be behind the Braxorns escape. Gryffindor and Slytherin tables were especially conversational, as an excited buzz spread through the school. The Quidditch season had officially begun.
Owl post hadn't arrived yet. Class schedules for the day were magically assigned to everyone who sat at their house table. They are:
Morning Classes 1st years - History of Magic 3rd years - Potions 4th years - Charms 5th years - Care of Magical Creatures
Slytherin: Quidditch try-outs are this morning.
Afternoon Classes 1st years - Charms 3rd years - Care of Magical Creatures 5th years - Potions
Gryffindor: Quidditch try-outs are this afternoon.
Owl Post will arrive soon with the Daily Prophet. Morning class threads will be available for posting in once breakfast ends, and afternoon ones when lunch ends. If there aren't students in a particular year, that class won't occur - 2nd, 6th, and 7th year classes aren't listed on the schedule.
When breakfast/lunch ends, the Quidditch Captain will make a thread to start try-outs. Any members of that house are welcome to attend. School brooms are used for these events, regardless if a character has their own or not.
Gerald rubbed his eyes. It was a long night. Between the Braxorn Riots and his run through the Castle, he was tired. He still had plans, though. He was going to find ways into every part of the Castle and beyond. If he needed to search for more founders stuff, he didn't want to sneak around. For that reason he was going to try joining the Quidditch Team, when his house was having tryouts.
Speaking of the Founders, his mind went to the sheet of Parchment in his pocket, even as he ate his Jam Toast. He had History first, so maybe he could get some answers there. If not, he was going to the Library. Hopefully this wasn't a restricted book. Sneaking around was so dangerous.
Shaking his head, he tried to think of other stuff. He woke up early, maybe his friends were coming soon.
A yawn fell from the young Slytherin as she entered the great hall, Elaras' uniform was held tightly under her arm as she made her way towards her house table. Hanna took a look round just to make sure Elara wasn't already there before taking a seat and surveying the table.
Placing the uniform on the seat beside her, Hanna reached forwards and plated herself some food as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes. Taking a bite of her eggs, the young Slytherin read through todays schedule; just charms?
Hanna placed the schedule down beside her and continued to eat, she only had one lesson today and she hadn't been planning on trying out for the quidditch team so that didn't concern her The brunette sighed to herself, even if she wanted to join she wouldn't be able to afford a broom; unless a load of money fell from the sky, Hanna chuckled at the thought.

Elara entered the hall wearily, she was still tired from the night befoe and her stomach was aching with hunger. Surely she was close to starvation? A couple of sandwiches last night hadn't been nearly enough to satisfy her. Starting towards the Hufflepuff table, she stopped as she caught snippets of conversation from people she passed by. Oh god. She'd forgotten. How in merlins beard had she forgotten?!
Today marked the start of the quidditch season.
It was as if someone had breathed new life into the weary fourth year and the weariness drained from her body as she looked around. Gaze flying to the Slytherin table, seeking the one person she desired to talk with about the matter. It didn't take long for her to find Hanna among the sea of green robes and the moment that she had located her friend, she started towards her at a run.
"Hanna! It's quidditch season! That means try-outs will be soon! I have been waiting my whole life for this moment!" she exclaimed as she reached her friend, briefly noting her uniform upon the seat next to Hanna and roughly shoving it into her bag- not even trying to be gentle. Elara hadn't tried out for the house team in previous years due to her parents disapproval of the idea, but she was older now and more confident in herself and she was going to try out for the team whether her parents liked it or not.
Grabbing a plate she began piling it high with the makings of a full english- when she seemed satisfied with the amount on her plate (that surely looked enough to feed two people) she began to eat quickly, only pausing to drink some orange juice in between mouthfuls. She had to keep her strength up if planned on making the team.

Grace was glad that she had gotten everything done last night. Now that her parchment was all attached, she and Gerald just had to figure out what they said. Well, assuming that Gerald had also managed to get to all the rest of his pieces. She sat down at the Gryffindor table and put some breakfast, mostly toast and eggs, on her plate. She was still deciding whether or not to try out for the Quidditch team, as she knew try-outs were today. Mum had been on the Gryffindor Quidditch team, and Grace was considering doing it so she noticed.
She looked around for Gerald. She'd stuffed the borrowed robes he'd given her into her bag, making it a little heavier than it was on an ordinary day, and she had to return them at some point. She was glad that they had History of Magic--it was her favorite subject, and maybe she'd even be able to find a book to help her translate the note. Or they could ask the professor, but Grace was still unsure if they should talk to him about this.
She munched on her breakfast, pondering this. She listened into chatter, hearing talk about Quidditch and Daymoths and Braxorns, but not saying anything to anyone at her house. She kept her eyes up, looking for Gerald just in case.
Spotting Grace, he stood up from his seat and made his way over to her. Dodging bigger people, he stood next to her, not willing to sit at her Table. "Did you finish it?"
He wasn't comfortable mentioning the Founder's Parchment to others. Some students might realise that Gerald was the one in their Common Rooms. "Also, I had some trouble, I think we should do some research?"
This was a brilliant way to hide what he was really trying to say. Hopefully she understood it.

Arthur couldn't get started on his Transfiguration homework. Even though he knew Quidditch tryouts for the Hufflepuff team were tomorrow, he still wanted to go out for the team. This year, he felt it, he wouldn't be failing. Maybe after Lucky graduated, they'd even make him Quidditch captain. He tapped his pencil against the parchment. Who cared about the usefulness of turning a rock into a bowl?
He poked at his paper a few more times. Honestly, he didn't see the point of giving out homework in the first place. Well, at least he had Charms, and he was pretty good, or at least, not bad, at Charms, and the teacher was far less frightening than say, Professor Snape or Professor McGonagall. He scribbled down a few words as he cut up a piece of sausage and ate it.

"Yeah, did you?" she asked. She moved some stuff around in her bag before pulling out his robes. "Here, take these." she said. She was being a little quiet as well, in all the chatter of the Great Hall at breakfast time. "Sit down, nobody cares." she said, shuffling over to allow him if he wanted to.
She looked at him, "I mean, it's totally old I know we have History, so we could ask Professor Archerose? she said, just as a suggestion. They were working on this together, after all. Teamwork making the dream work. "Or hang out at the Library afterwards."
Awkwardly, he sat down next to her, taking the Robes. He took a moment to refold the robes, before putting them in his bag. He looked around. Thankfully, she understood what he was saying. "The Library works, maybe both? The Teacher might not tell us everything we need to know."
"I've been thinking, why did we need to go to each of those places?" He pulled out a Comic. This one had a picture of a Man dessed in a Cat Costume. Opening it, Gerald revealed the Founder's Parchment. "It has to be something about the Power of Friendship, but what?"

Grace smiled when he sat next to her, and continued eating. "We've got History next anyways, I doubt we'll have too much time in the library beforehand." she shrugged, "Besides, Professor Archerose might be able to tell us a specific book to look for." She thought that just searching for all books on ancient languages might be a touch difficult.
"Probably because the Founders wanted to make it difficult for us." she said with a frown, "Like a test, to see how we do." She pulled out her own parchment, pretending they were going over some homework. She wondered about the comic, but now wasn't the time for that. "Maybe to show that they should let everybody into every common room? But the founders were the ones who split us in the first place!"
"I know, it's weird. Maybe the founder's secret is a free pass into the Other Dorms? A New dorm, maybe?" He was making this up as he went. Remembering what the hat said the other day, Gerald thought for a moment. "We represent what the Founder's stood for, I think, but maybe splitting wasn't what they planned?"
Nodding, he considered some things. Why did everything seem like a big Puzzle? He still had to go out to the forest, too. He had a big day ahead of him. "I don't think it's a test. It's a tour, probably."

The night before had been exciting and scary, which had worn her out considerably. She had gotten ready for her day, plaiting her hair down both sides before offering Mungo her arm. She promised him that she would take him to the main door and let him fly today while she had class. So, that is what she would do, if he took her arm. She would by pass the great hall for just a moment, go out the door and look at him. "Right lad, ye be back at the owlry later... Good huntin' and have fun..." She would say to him and allow him to fly away without any issue.
Walking into the Great Hall, she heard the buzz going around the tables. Students were mingling with each other and she smiled when she overheard about the baby braxhorn. Well, that was a good thing certainly. Seeing that Hanna was already there, Lindsey made her way to the Slytherin Table and sat on the other side. "Hello." She said, putting her some eggs on her plate. Looking around, she was about to let out a sigh, when she saw a very small bowl of Haggis near her and a broad smile formed on her lips as she grabbed it. It was literally only enough for maybe one person, which didn't surprise her as many English students didn't care for it. "Where are ye at in ye're book, Hanna?" She asked as she plated the contents of the bowl and also grabbed some toast and a few other items.
Soon, she saw a Hufflepuff join them and she smiled at her as she joined them. "Are ye trying out, Hanna? I was gonna go as soon as Potions finished." She said as she took a bite of the food on her plate.

Kat didn’t sleep very well last night. With everything that went on yesterday she should have just passed out from exhaustion but she spent the night tossing and turning. Her mind was racing at a hundred miles per second. ’Who would want to attack Hogwarts?’ Lucky’s words were stuck on repeat in her head. Kat begrudgingly dragged herself out of bed and got ready for the day. As much as she wanted to lay down and go back to bed she had things she needed to do.
She made her way to the great hall and the Slytherin table making sure to grab some coffee to help her wake up. Kat sipped at it absentmindedly as she went over her schedule for the day. Care of Magical Creatures and Potions, her two favorite classes. Kat wondered what magical creature they would be dealing with today, after all she had quite a bit of practice from the day before. She was also grateful that she’d be seeing Professor Snape today, perhaps she could get permission to use the student laboratory after class.
Kat wondered where Nyx was at with her ingredient collecting task, and she was wondering if Lucky would help her with a prank. Usually Kat was above such things but Snape had warned her not to forget about the glitter incident. As she overheard the other students talking about the start of the Quidditch season Kat couldn’t help but smile. It seemed like perfect timing to strike at the Gryffindors, and Kat thought Lucky and Nyx would be more inclined to help if they could simultaneously psych out their competitors.
With that Kat, who had been relatively quite all morning, stuck her head above the crowd and craned her neck to find potential allies.
Abby had woken up with a sing song attitude. For some reason she felt like it was going to be a good day. She planned on hitting some extra curricular activities later, perhaps some dueling practice? Abby was even debating trying out for the quidditch team, though she thought she was rubbish at it.
She skipped down the hall to the Gryffindors’ table and grabbed a heaping pile of pancakes. She’d need the energy today. Abby sat there reading her schedule and eating pancakes, she hummed a little tune as she waited for the mail and her mates to join them. She had charms this morning, it wasn’t as exciting as Herbology but Abby remained optimistic. After all charms was a very important class.
Hanna looked up as Lindsey took a seat across from here, she swallowed her food before smiling and waving at the younger girl; "Hey" she spoke before taking another mouthful of her food and watching as Lindsey piled food onto her own plate.
"I actually didn't get as far as I was hoping to last night"
The older Slytherin replied to her housemates question; about to ask her how she slept, her words caught in her mouth as Elara showed up out of nowhere. A sigh came from the brunette as she listened to her friend excitedly rave about quidditch before she took the seat beside her. Elara had always wanted to try out for the Hufflepuff quidditch team; her parents hated the idea but finally she was going after what she wanted instead of what her parents wanted.
"I wasn't planning on it"
Hanna sighed once again as she picked at her food, she had thought about trying out when she was younger but now, even if she wanted too, she couldn't.
"Anyway, why would I put myself through all that time spent with... Amara"
The last part came out as a joke, smiling at her friends before she looked over at Kat who had recently come in. Hanna smiled at the prefect and threw a small wave before turning back to the people around her.
