As lunch began, there was already chatter within the Great Hall. Students gathered to talking about various things from the Daily Prophet that morning or to get in some last-minute studying before classes or otherwise. It was a busy afternoon ahead, with every year having somewhere to be after lunch.
Professors were present and actively conversing among themselves. Various other staff, such as Madam Pomfrey, Hagrid, and Madam Hooch, were yet to arrive. Headmaster Rickard was also absent, though rumour had it that he was still swamped with letters from parents and the ministry regarding the Crystal Daymoths.
Schedule Reminder(afternoon) 1st years - Flying Lesson 3rd years - History of Magic 4th years - Transfiguration 5th - 7th years - Homework Session
1st years: When lunch concludes, a thread will be made at the Training Grounds for the flying lesson. It's not technically a class, but has similar rewards and structure.
An attentive little owl was perched on the back of an empty staff chair, keenly observing the students. Whenever a Quidditch Captain or Prefect entered the hall for lunch, the owl swooped to proudly deliver the following note:
As mentioned during dinner yesterday evening, your position requires you to learn an advanced spell to assist in combating Crystal Daymoths, should an incident occur. This is to be done at soonest convenience, therefore I have scheduled time this afternoon to teach you.
When you've finished your Homework session, please come to the Hospital Wing. Once everyone's there, we shall begin. No dawdling.

Arthur chomped down on a sandwich. Sure, he had Transfiguration next. Sure, it was one of his worst subjects. But was he worried? Nope! Well, maybe a little. He would have rather done another class, but some of his friends were aces in Transfiguration, and he could hardly take that chance away from them. He looked absentmindedly at a Transfiguration book, not really taking much of it in.

After a stop by his common room to remove his robes and clean up a bit, Ryan headed back down the eternal steps of the Ravenclaw Tower. Why couldn't Hogwarts have elevators?
He arrived at the Great Hall, his stomach rumbling now in anticipation for food. He headed to his house table and sat somewhere around the middle, hoping to be joined by someone his own age. Ryan wondered what Gerald was doing, after rushing off with Grace again. Those two were pretty busy, but it seemed they worked well as a team and made good progress on whatever they were doing.
Checking his schedule, though he'd memorised it by now, Ryan wondered what flying would be like. He was nervous, as he'd never even see Quidditch before, but it didn't affect his appetite. He made himself a big ham and cheese sandwhich and didn't bothered cutting it. He missed when his mum used to cut it into shapes for him, but supposed he wasn't a little kid anymore and had to get used to life at a boarding school.
Lost in his thoughts, Ryan didn't pay much attention to those around him. He just ate his meal and waited for anyone to join him, or for when it was time to head off to his afternoon lesson.

Sophia strolled into the Great Hall and looked around for her friends. Not seeing anyone she knew and was friendly with, she sulked her way to the Hufflepuff table. She sat across from a 4th year boy she didn't know, other than that his name was Hacking or Hockley or something like that.
She was starving. Sophia usually tried to avoid a big lunch but decided to make an exception as breakfast and dinner both seemed too far away for her to survive. Especially considering she had a boring homework session that afternoon, if her schedule was to be believed. At least that shouldn't take too long and then she'd have free time again. If only Sophia knew what to do with that free time...

Jacob headed straight for the Gryffindor table, not pausing to notice anyone. He sat down and grabbed food, already eating by the time he'd glanced around. No one interesting were nearby, as Ronan hadn't arrived yet and Tiana was probably still sleeping. Jacob did notice a lack of specific Slytherins as well though, which was one of his favourite thing to notice.
He groaned at the schedule though, slumping onto the table (while still trying to eat and not choke). 'Homework?' he complained. 'Lame.'
Jacob sat up to sip some juice, but wished he could hoard some food and just hide away in his dorm until dinner. Why was homework even a thing? Did Professors just like torturing their students and taking away the fun? Probably.
Killed by Devin Kudosen by act of the Killing Curse. June #24, RPG year 1 -- he was a 5th year Gryffindor. Jacob died to save his best friend, Luckett Langford.

It had been a lackluster morning. After class, Langford had spent most of it hassling some kids in the main corridor. Bullying, his younger casualties could say, but Lucky saw it as ribbing or even helping build character. His sufferers were never predetermined targets, just characters without faces that helped ease his boredom. And after fooling around for about an hour or so with a couple other housemates, he realized it was about time for lunch and headed off in that direction, with a casual stride that made him look badass -- or just an ass -- to onlookers.
He entered the dining hall and was immediately halted by an attentive little owl. A letter fell from the bird's talons and into his hands, and without opening it, he already knew what it was. 'Yeah, yeah. I got it.' His tone was apathetic, much more interested in what the spread was for his afternoon's lunch. Lucky knew the notice would be further instruction about his mandatory duty regarding the outbreak, but that could wait until later, after his homework session. He slipped the article into his robe pocket and continued on his way toward the Hufflepuff table.
'Did you miss me as much as I missed you?' He grinned at Sophia, sliding into an empty area of the bench beside her. Lucky helped himself to the basket of fruit in front of him, grabbing an apple after his short search for something visually delicious. He took a monstrous bite, now chomping on his crisp, delicious mouthful. Langford wiped his mouth and looked at the boy seated across from him. 'What's up, Arty?' He didn't know him, but knew his name. How did he? Was he one of the boys that Lucky badgered once upon a time? He couldn't remember.
Duelling with her friends had been fun and now Rubes was starting to feel a little peckish. She wondered what was available for lunch.
Wandering into the Great Hall, it didn't take long for Rubes to spy Lucky and Sophia. She plopped herself down in an empty spot on the bench beside Lucky and filled her plate with some sandwiches. As she ate, she studied the afternoon schedule.
"Ooooh, my firstflying lesson! I'venever been ona broom beforeso, to behonest, I'm notexpecting thingsto turn outwell. Knowing me,I'll fall offmy broom andmake an absoluteidiot of myself."

Arthur was happy to be joined by three other Hufflepuff students. "Hello hello!" he greeted all of them cheerfully. "I heard you were Quidditch captain, Lucky! Maybe you'll let me be on the team this year." he knew his name, mostly from the way that he talked and also how others seemed to know him. The first year girl, he didn't know, but he hoped they could be friends.
"It's really hard to fly," Artie said, remembering all the years before that he'd managed to fail, rather incredibly, on a broomstick. He wouldn't give up, not yet. Well, maybe he was a little close, "You shouldn't beat yourself up about it if it's not something you're good at." he smiled.
"Transfiguration meanwhile...ugh" he frowned at the schedule, "Why me?"

The young slytherin had made her way into the Great Hall, with her damp cloak over her arm. Looking about, she noticed a few of the staff missing and she frown. Where were they? She was a curious young woman and she had only recently seen Mr. Hagrid that morning after class, having gotten a pot for her Herbology Kit. Lindsey could not wait to see the seeds she had planted grow, but for now, she had to think about her day.
History of Magic was always a big boring, but she knew it needed to be done. Taking a breath, she headed over to her table and sat down, taking a few things onto her plate and began eating.
Ruby smiled. It was good to see her housemates were feeling bright and happy. She noted Arthur's distaste at the fact that he had a Transfiguration class that afternoon, but she was too worried about her flying lesson. So what if she made a complete idiot of herself. After all, she couldn't be expected to get things right the first time she tried them.
It was off to the great hall for lunch and he realized once again, as usual, somewhere he had gotten in a bit late. He was either late, or too early, but never quite on time. He wandered along and wondered where the day had gone. He had left the Commons Room first, but sometimes he could be a bit flighty. He could see something shiny and run off in that direction, get distracted and forget what he was doing. But finally, he arrived into the great hall for lunch.
He stood by the entrance and peeked in, looking to see if his friends were here among the hordes of fellow students who had made their presence felt here. The Gryffindors had mostly stuck together in recent memory, and while it would be good to mingle a bit, sometimes he felt safer with the people of his own house, after all. As he glanced around, he waited. He thought he spotted Thatcher but he kept awaiting to see if more of his friends might pass by, so he could go right ahead and follow with the group!
Where the heck was everyone else? He was getting hungry. He thought to himself as he looked around, until he heard some people coming in while he stood to the side of the entrance. The captain (well, after her beauty rest) or some of the rest of the gang had to pop up soon, right?!

Jade paused by the doorway of the Great Hall, spotting Ronan and wondering what the heck was keeping him from his lunch.
'What are you waiting for?' Jade asked, giving him a "you're being weird" look. 'The food's that way,' she teased. She reached to give him a playful nudge, then headed to the Gryffindor table while there was still time to eat. If Ronan wanted to die of hunger, then that was his choice. She, however, wasn't going to make it to dinner without food.
She dropped into the seat across from Jacob, then made herself a simple sandwich. There wasn't time to get fancy with her food. There was still no sign of Tiana, from what Jade could see, but supposed it wouldn't be surprising if her best friend decided to sleep instead. In case that was true, Jade grabbed a few apples and hoarded them away in her bag. Those should keep Tiana going until dinner, hopefully.
Food vanished from the tables, which several teenagers complained about. The Gryffindor table was strangely quiet, though the vanishing food or nearby friends woke several older Gryffindors from attempted or accidental naps.
2nd to 4th years gathered their bags and headed off to classes, while 1st years were buzzing with excitement in their haste to leave the Great Hall for their first ever flying lesson. The older students had a homework session to get to, which hopefully no one had left to the last minute.
Most of the staff table had emptied by then, as they also had busier schedules than usual. Madam Pomfrey hadn't made an appearance at all during lunch, but that wasn't especially unusual. So far, there had been no reports of Crystal Daymoth attacks or dangers at Hogwarts, but since the morning rain had stopped - that may change.
Nyx had reluctantly agreed to sitting with Jade tomorrow morning at breakfast. But to be clear, the reluctance wasn't because of her cousin, it was because of whom her relative associated with. Tiana Thomas. A girl that Nyx never thought in a million years she'd be breaking bread with. The thought alone churned her stomach. But there was something about Jade that felt.. right. She couldn't describe it. Nyx wanted to spend time with her first cousin, because she believed it could evolve into something special. Jade was honest, real. She was refreshing.
Nordstrom couldn't say the same for the rest of her family. She still couldn't believe that her grandmother and mother had kept such a secret from her. It made her blood boil, her senses reel. Nyx clenched her fists just thinking about it, her manicured nails piercing her inner palms. She gripped Mathias' book as she weaved through an outpour of students from the Great Hall. It appeared as though she missed lunch. Whatever. Nyx wasn't really hungry, anyway.
As she stepped into the doorway, Nyx stood on the tips of her toes, scanning the crowd for Sallow. There were too many students moving about, however, making it almost impossible to locate him. Feeling defeated, she shrunk back down to the heels of her feet and shifted her weight to the side in an effort to dodge foot traffic. However, while doing so, she accidentally bumped into someone. Nyx quickly turned to face them, blasting them with a mouthful of venom—even though she was probably the one to blame. "Watch where you're going, O'Rourke," she snapped without pause, her icy–blue eyes narrowing with each word.
With a huff, Nordstrom turned and marched off down the path she came, but not before being bombarded by an eager, little owl. A handwritten note dropped from the bird's beautiful talons and the Ravenclaw Quidditch Captain reached out to catch it, the letter instantly sprawling out within her grasp. After giving it a quick but thorough read, Nyx tucked it into her robe pocket and headed off toward her homework session, looking forward to the afternoon's activities.

He couldn't help but chuckle at the thought of Ruby Farrowbrooke falling off her broomstick. But he shook his head in response to her comment, taking another bite of his apple. 'You never know, Rubes. You could be brilliant.' It was true. She wouldn't know until she tried. Normally, Lucky would just agree with whoever the person was, concurring they'd be awful, but he had an unexplained attachment to Ruby. She felt like a little sister and he wanted to encourage her.
'Indeed, Arty.' He smirked, his chest puffing with pride. He leaned back in his seat, letting his housemates get another glimpse of his badge. 'If you're able to fly a broom, you should tryout.' Langford shrugged, taking one final bite of his apple before chucking the core behind him, not knowing if it would hit someone or not. He didn't care. 'I'm going to be looking at everyone, first years included. I want a well-rounded team with varying levels of experience. That way, if one of you end up becoming exceptional, you'll credit me for your growth.' Luckett flashed his trademark grin, baring all white teeth, and casted an additional wink toward Farrowbrooke.
The food started to disappear and that meant it was time to go. Lucky rose to full height and began to walk off, hoping that Sophia would follow him to their homework session. She seemed quiet, but he didn't want to ask why. Not here, not when it was buzzing with boisterous noise.
As he passed underneath the archway, Langford spotted Ronan O'Rourke. He had noticed him standing in the doorway for the later half of lunch. The boys didn't know one another that well, but Lucky didn't forget the verbal jab Ronan gave him before Herbology. 'Good idea skipping lunch, O'Rourke. You look like your packing on some weight there, mate.' Lucky rewarded him with a passive-aggressive smile, motioning to his own stomach as if he were rotund in size.
After the put-down, Lucky ventured off to his homework session, ready to get it over with. He had a busy afternoon ahead of him. Homework coupled with training.. it was going to be full.
