‘Crap, well there goes my leverage.’ Kat thought when she heard Headmaster Rickard start to speak up. She shifted her weight and attention to the Headmaster and listened to him as he spoke. After all she still didn’t know the whole story, but Lucas didn’t know that. ‘Crystal Daymoths? That explains why Professor Fairburn was involved, after all they were magical creatures.’ Kat examined Hathmore and the other Professors as the Headmaster spoke to see if she could determine how they really felt about the situation. Hathmore seemed rather at ease, Kat was starting to like his easy going attitude more and more.
Madam Pomfrey then took over and addressed the students. Basically as long as the windows were closed and they stayed indoors they wouldn’t have anything to fear, however that wasn’t going to work for Kat she had things to do and people to see. Namely collect potion ingredients for Professor Snape, Kat was going to have to learn this Protection Spell especially if she wanted to be a Prefect.
When the Staff finished their speech Kat immediately went back to her notebook and wrote down what she had learned, and she scheduled in some time to go see Madam Pomfrey to learn this spell. Kat looked over at Lucas and Amara no longer trying to hide the fact she was watching them. A strange look of longing on her face. Kat wanted to be closer to her housemates but they seemed not to be interested. ‘You still have your Peace Offering,’ Kat reminded herself about the Wolfweed she intended to trade with Amara. She went back to writing in her notebook, Kat was debating leaving for the common room early. She wasn’t hungry anymore.
"Sallow," she greeted, watching her fellow housemate take a seat across from her. The table was boisterous, laughing and all talking at once. Because of this, Nyx felt a headache coming on. Normally, she would have loved the attention of becoming captain, but far too much had happened that day. She felt like she couldn't even enjoy her achievement. Any compliments that were thrown her way, she only acknowledged with a polite nod, hoping they'd get the hint.
She began to rub at her temple, hoping to subdue the ache. Across from her, Mathias was keeping to himself, reading what appeared to be a book he no doubt borrowed from Madam Pince—and Nyx appreciated him for it. "Thank you," she began, directing her gratitude toward the boy. "I appreciate the fact that at least one person isn't acting like a hooligan." Her tone was somewhat cold and officious, but in what seemed like a first, her eyes were sincere.
Then, her eyes lit up like two cerulean gems. "I love Pixies," Nyx spat out, leaning inwards to show an interest. Nordstrom suddenly felt as though her headache had vanished. "Cornish pixies, specifically," she continued, leaning over to try and get a look at any images in his book. "Their electric blue shade is beyond alluring," she started, alluding to the fact that blue was her favorite color. "But the fact that they're incredibly strong for being such tiny creatures is fascinating to me." She casted him a glance, her lips curving demurely.
The commotion started from Tiana Thomas, Amara Seabrook and a flying sausage took her attention away from the interesting conversation with Sallow, leaving her miffed once again. Why couldn't some of these children just behave? Nyx reached for another handful of nuts, pocketing a few, but not before placing a couple into her mouth. Then, she sighed with relief. Headmaster Rickard's voice had trumpeted over the students, telling the masses to quiet down before he began. "I hope everyone calms themselves now," she whispered to Mathias.
However, it did quite the opposite. A murmur ran through the gathering of students after the news, heads seemingly gathering together, before more animated chatter ultimately ensued. "Crystal Daymoths," she managed to say aloud with a curiosity. "It would appear my first responsibility as captain is enacted," Nyx said with more pleasure than displeasure. "This ought to be interesting," she commented, pouring herself some water and taking a sip.
Abby listened intently as the staff spoke, that explained why several of them were missing earlier. Abby always admired Madam Pomfrey, and she hoped that after Hogwarts that she would qualify for a job at St. Mungos. ‘Well the best way to show I’m interested in being a Healer is to do the extra credit,’ Abby thought optimistically. ”Wow I’d better learn this Spell after class tomorrow!” Abby said out loud. She was hoping that Tiana would offer to go with her since she was going to have to learn the spell.
”Well I’m going to head back to the Common Room and get- ahhh,” Abby was cut off by something hitting the back of her head. She turned and looked at the floor to see what it was. ‘A sausage?’ WHO THROWS A SAUSAGE?! ”Oi who did that!?” Abby demanded at the table next to her. ‘It had to be one of the Hufflepuffs!’ Abby couldn’t tell which one it was but her anger took control over her body. Abby stuck her hand in the bowl of Mashed Potatoes and cupped a large handful. ‘Amateur everyone knows you want to throw something messy in a food fight, Abby thought launching the mashed potatoes in the air hoping to hit a Hufflepuff, though she threw rather hard and over shot their table. ”Shoot! What have I done?” Abby said remorsefully as the potatoes headed towards the Ravenclaw table. She immediately turned around and played it off cool like she didn’t throw anything. ‘What kind of Impression is This going to make on my housemates?’ Abby worried. She didn’t want to mess up Tiana’s party plans with a food fight.
Tiana was unable to respond to her friends in time, instead interrupted by the arrival by the one and only, Amara Seabrook. Not one to tolerate any sort of Slytherin nonsense, Tiana leaned up from her seat. “Oi! Shut your mush, Seabrook!” she bellowed, her hands cupped around her mouth. She didn't know if Seabrook would even be able to hear her over everyone, but the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain was sending a message to her housemates, too. Tiana Thomas would never back down from Amara Seabrook or anyone for that matter. Ever.
“Chicken it is, then! Thanks, Jake,” she replied, forking a couple breasts onto her plate. Thomas had a healthy appetite, getting a lot of exercise from Quidditch and the like to keep her in fit shape. Taking a knife, Tiana cut her chicken into several pieces, eating between talking as she responded to Thatcher. “I haven't seen Ro since we left the commons,” she said after quickly swallowing. “Maybe he's skipping and already getting things ready for the party later?” If that was the case, he should have relayed that idea to the rest of the group.
Thomas turned her attention to the front of the hall, listening to Headmaster Rickard's formal announcement, followed by Madam Pomfrey's informational message. “I've never even heard of a Crystal Daymoth,” she said quietly to her nearby housemates. “But I can't wait to learn the charm to put them in their place,” she beamed. She'd have to do that after class tomorrow.
Suddenly, a few Gryffindors jumped at the sight of Abigail Maples' abrupt reaction. Tiana used the edge of the table to prop herself up in order to get a better view of the incident. “Someone chucked something!?” she shouted, raising a brow. Maples had already thrown a handful of mashed potatoes at the Hufflepuff table, but Tiana wanted to direct heat at another house. “You think it's them? I'd place a hefty bet it was Slytherin!” exclaimed the captain, grabbing a load of carrots and catapulting them farther across the hall like a series of projectile missiles.
Ronan had arrived to the Great Hall and he was excited to get himself a bite to eat. Maybe enjoy dinner a bit, chat with friends, even deal with the others. He was running a little late, all things considered, having gotten a smidge sidetracked. But he always considered himself late and worth the wait, though surely the rest of his fellow Gryffindor brethren were left a little aggravated by this tendency of his from time to time.
Soon he found his way into the room and began to wander over towards the rest of his brethren, getting caught looking off in Nyx's direction for a second before walking on over to the rest of the group. All of these lovely ladies around here, wow, he thought to himself. Stricken as usual, then that Tiana. Mmph. Soon he saw Abigail get hit by some food, one of their soldiers had been hit!
This meant war. "Flip a table and use it as cover, protect Captain Tiana!" Of course he could take charge a little in a childish pursuit like a food fight, soon he looked to Jacob Thatcher. "Jacob, we gotta raid the kitchen, we need more things to chuck... bigger things. Some kind of melon at least!"
Kat wasn’t really paying any attention to the other tables in the Great Hall but she was aware of sone sort of commotion going on. She could hear people yelling. Kat was also aware of people whispering about the Crystal Daymoths, apparently they must have been on edge. Kat was done eating and decided that she was going to head back to the Slytherin Common room and spend some time with Patrica. ‘Poor baby has been cooped up all day,’ Kat thought making an excuse for herself. Even though her toad probably was just sleeping all day.
Kat gathered her things and was about to head out when it started to rain carrots. ”What the hell? She exclaimed. They had landed near her but thankfully not on her. The shouting had increased, apparently a food fight was about to happen and Kat didn’t want to be anywhere near flying food. She hurried out of the Great Hall head down and covering her face. Kat held her notebook close to her chest to protect it from projectile foods. ‘I don’t need anymore problems with my hair today,’ Kat thought as she briskly escaped the madness that surrounded her.
Once she made it out into the corridor Kat took a breather and slowed her pace. She glanced back into the room where some students were still trying to eat and others were fighting. Kat sighed and begin to make her way to the Dungeons.

Lucky and Sophia laughed in unison, their follicles trembling with glee. 'Thata' girl, Rubes!' He had finally caught his breath, brushing tousled hair from his face. While she didn't necessarily hit someone, she managed to cause a disturbance -- and that was all that really mattered. He reached out to shake Ruby with an exaggerated expression of shock and awe, hoping to hype her up. 'The sausage link landed directly in that kid's soup and made a complete mess!'
Then the fun police had their say. 'Someone ought to remove the wand that's lodged up that girl's arse.' He scoffed, his voice full of disbelief at Amara Seabrook's comments. 'Has she ever experienced a good time? You know, outside of torturing others with her awful attitude?' Lucky was willing to bet she hadn't. Then again, he didn't know her very well. But that wasn't going to stop him or anyone else from passing judgement on her; that's what most kids their age did.
The news of the outbreak didn't phase Lucky too much, but it certainly answered his previous question. 'Well, I guess we know why the Professors weren't present for the first half of dinner.' But he couldn't help but roll his eyes following Pomfrey's words. 'Pbft. Students who applied for captain have to learn the spell, too?' Lucky felt like that was solely directed towards him, because as far as he knew, there wasn't anyone else up for the vacant Hufflepuff captaincy.
Wanting to kick things into high gear, he wriggled his eyes at Ruby. 'Ready to try again?' He watched as the first year took hold of another sausage, this time chucking it at Gryffindor's table -- just as Sophia had suggested. 'Ah-hah!' Lucky bursted into a fit of laughter, watching as the meat hit Abigail Maples in the back of the head. The second she turned to face them, however, he briefly covered his mouth and ducked his head. 'It's about to go down, guys!'
Like clockwork, Maples threw mashed potatoes at Ravenclaw, followed by Tiana Thomas shooting carrots at Slytherin. 'Food fight!' Lucky shouted, using a hand to magnify his voice. He rapidly stood to height, purging two full goblets of pumpkin juice at the table nearest to him. 'Cover me, Soph!' He ducked and dodged sporadically, trying to avoid anything that could've been aimed at him. He was vulnerable, his brawny frame an ideal target for anyone willing.
Rubes was stunned. All she'd done was throw a few sausages and, all of a sudden, there were carrots and fistfuls of mashed potato being flung around. OK, so she hadn't caused much damage with her flying sausages, but they did make good projectiles, and now that a number of other students had joined in, it would be harder for anyone to pinpoint exactly who'd started the commotion.
Putting her head down to avoid a handful of airborne carrots, she hissed at Lucky, "It's about timeyoustartedthrowingstuff!Afterall, thisfoodfightthingwasyour idea!"

“I wish someone would tell them to shut up.” Lindsey looked over at her and then back at the other students enjoying themselves. The sudden sparks made her look over at Amara coming into the Great Hall, though she didn’t know if she had done the sparks, but she was near enough to do it. ”I’m sure they’ll settle soon enough.” She said before she found her seat next to her.
”Er, you're welcome… For saving you a seat, I mean.” Lindsey gave her a smile and looked at some of the food she had gotten. She really wished they had some more haggis or other Scottish taste, but she dealt with what she got, so she grabbed herself a chicken leg and placed it on her plate, with some greens and fruits. ”So um...Are you, I mean do you have plans later? I got a chess set last Christmas, if you want to play in the common room after dessert, or dinner. If you want to? I have gobstones too, but only one set. If you have your own set...” Lindsey smiled at Avery and seemed to beam at the possible ideas.
”I hadn’t thought about that, but both sounds great… I can’t remember if I packed my Gobstone set, so I’ll have to look when we go back to the dorm.” It was really all a good idea. ”Maybe we can grab something and go at desert and enjoy some quite.” As she went to take a bite from her food, she heard something towards the front and snapped her head around to see the Headmaster speaking. Everyone in the hall was settling, though it did take a moment, everyone was settled enough for everyone to listen to the headmaster.
When it was mentioned about of the Daymoths in the northern highlands, she felt her stomach curl into a fist. The young witch had heard about them before, she couldn’t remember where at the moment, but she knew of them. And the school and her home of Inverness was central Scotland… She knew that much and that meant they weren’t that far away. As he allowed the healer to speak, Lindsey listened intently, wanting to know of this plan. As she spoke about the bug and what it does, she made mental notes to send a letter home by one of the school owls tomorrow. There was a bunch of chatter and she heard Madam Pomfrey speak about it and what should be done about it. As she spoke about the spell, Lindsey perked up and she was determined to learn it.
”Well, that can’t be good…” She said as she looked down at the table. She wasn’t quiet for long before the sudden onslaught of food being hurled everywhere. ”What in God’s name.” She said before she ducked to avoid getting hit with some carrots and other foods.

Lucas didn't care about anything else, not even the daymoths, when food started flying. Though confident Slytherin wouldn't partake, there was no guarantee they wouldn't get dragged into it one way or another. And once it started raining carrots, Lucas yelped and jumped out of his seat. He checked his hair, then assessed the situation.
Yep. He's out. Lucas held hands over his head to protect it, and fled from the Great Hall. Would dinner-times always be this awful and stressful from now on? He really hoped not, or he'd be starved. Lucas dashed from view and didn't slow until he'd reached the safety of the dungeons.
Giggling to herself, Rubes looked around for something else to throw. Even though she didn't really want to admit it, this food fight was, to some extent, rather enjoyable and still no-one suspected that she, a harmless-looking little first year, was the one who'd started it all. Then she spied a plate of chicken drumsticks. 'Thosewould make good projectiles.' Grabbing three, she took a bite from one, and flung the other two at some random Gryffindor boy, whacking him on the backside.
Rubes giggled again and nudged Lucky. "JusthitthatGryffindorboyonthearsewithaflyingchickendrumstick!Hemayfindhimselfhavingtroublesittingforaweek."
Another fistful of airborne carrots came soaring towards her. Hastily putting her head down, Rubes grabbed another sausage and flung it in the direction the carrots had come from. Who knew that chucking food around could actually be fun?

'Oh, that's me, the not-hooligan,' Mathias said with an amused smile. He leaned forward too, always excited when someone wanted to discuss things with him. 'Oh yeah, Cornish pixies are so interesting. They're small and deceptive in that sense, but are really not to be messed with if you don't know what you're doing.'
He nodded, agreeing with her points. 'These ones are bigger, sort of gold-ish green.' Mathias showed her his book, but they were interrupted by the Headmaster.
Well, Crystal Daymoths were very interesting too! Before he had a chance to discuss it all with Nyx, mashed potatoes came flying and splattered his hair. Mathias yelled, trying to wipe it off. Oh, gross. He quickly put his book away to protect it, and made a comment to Nyx that maybe they could talk in the common room later instead.
He laughed as everyone started fighting with the food, as some reactions were quite funny. He ducked and dodged edible projectiles, but didn't partake. He'd had it drilled in his head too much about manners and not playing with his food.
He felt a bit bad for the house-elves who put such work into making their dinner only to have it thrown about and wasted. But at heart he was still a teenage boy and the whole thing was a lot of fun to watch, while playfully keeping himself as safe as possible. Once he'd had his fun, Mathias grabbed a few non-messy snack items and headed out of the hall towards the Ravenclaw Tower.
Avery almost didn't notice the Headmaster getting their attention at first, busy over-thinking Lindsey's acceptance to play games with her in the common room after dessert. And now she apparently had daymoths to worry about as well, though Avery couldn't find the effort to care too much about things that might be a problem. Until any actually showed up, she couldn't care too much about some big bugs. Not that she dismissed how dangerous it could be, but they weren't there right now so what?
When the food fight started, Avery groaned in annoyance. Why couldn't she just eat her dinner without a fuss? The carrots landed around her, missing her goblet by almost nothing. She snatched a handful of peas and considered her options, then growled and dropped them all over the table. She couldn't get involved or it'd just get messier.
'I'm not doing this,' Avery said to Lindsey, gesturing to the mess the Great Hall was becoming. She stuffed some breadrolls in her pockets. 'Meet you in the common room when you're ready?' Without waiting for an answer, she hurried from the hall - ducking when necessary. She was great at food fights and wanted to get revenge, but none of the other Slytherins were throwing food so Avery didn't want to once again be seen as the weirdo who did things differently.

Ryan listened intently to everything the staff said about some scary moths that might attack them over the next few days. As if catching live spiders wasn't bad enough. He shuddered, trying to remember how easily the windows of his dormitory opened or if they didn't. He was fairly sure they didn't, but intended to check as soon as he got back to it.
He yelled in fright when something him in the shoulder. Ryan grabbed the edge of the table to not lose his balance, searching wide-eyed for what hit him. As mashed potatoes splattered some others nearby, he realised what was going on. Ryan stared in shock that a food fight was even possible, expecting the staff to put a stop to it soon.
Well, if that was the case...Ryan grabbed some sprouts and flung them towards the Gryffindor table. He hoped he didn't hit Grace, but hadn't seen her in his line of view. With a laugh, he ducked some carrots and reached for more sprouts. He must be going mad. Sure, he hated breaking rules and putting himself in harms way, but everyone else was throwing food and it was just good fun. He'd hide as soon as someone got in trouble, but for now Ryan gave in to his urge to play.

Sophia was loving it. She laughed with Lucky, loud and joyful. Any thoughts of new spells, daymoths, and Seabrook were easily forgotten in the exciting food war they'd helped create. 'Food fight,' she yelled alongside Lucky, jumped up from her seat to get a better aim.
She grabbed anything in reach, not even paying attention to what it was. It was a miracle she hadn't accidentally put her hand in a liquid, though admired Lucky's creativity for using goblets of pumpkin juice. Not even she was that keen.
It was hard to focus, as Sophia was laughing too hard at the fun and at everyone else. Being a chaser, she had incredible aim and sharp reflexes. Not that she was able to follow everything that was flying from all directions now, but she certainly held her own in their playful "war".
With a mischievous smirk, Sophia grabbed a bowl of something mashed and spotty. Instead of throwing anything, she reached to dump the bowl on Lucky's head. Succeeded or not, she dissolved into a fit of giggles. She had no doubt he'd retaliate, but Sophia ducked under the table and dashed to the other side - reappearing to pull faces at him.
She shrieked (and her hair briefly turned bright) as something cold and goopy hit her back. She tried to wipe it off, groaning at the state of her clothes. Oh well, she knew what she was getting herself into. She rejoined the battle, wanting to make the most of it while they could as she had no doubt they wouldn't be allowed to enjoy it for long.
'Well done,' she said, reaching to pay Ruby on the back. 'Dare complete, I'd say.'
