An active, character-driven Hogwarts experience set in the early 2000s. Unique items, plots, and features. Non-canon; this isn't Harry Potter's story, it's ours.
The sunset was barely visible, with dark clouds overhead that then also blocked out any view of the stars. It didn't seem like it would rain, but the weather certainly was colder than the day began with.
Students and staff gathered in the Great Hall, though a few Professors were notably absent: Hathmore, Snape, Fairburn, and Rivera. Even Madam Pomfrey and Hagrid weren't present yet. Hot and delicious food appeared on all the tables, and the staff proceeded to eat despite the absences. Professor McGonagall was over by a side door talking seriously with Filch.
The Gryffindor and Ravenclaw tables were especially noisy tonight, as everyone was eager to spread the news and excitement of having gained new Quidditch captains. Nyx Nordstrom for Ravenclaw, and Tiana Thomas for Gryffindor. Some younger Hufflepuffs joined in with the chatter. Slytherins mostly kept to themselves - they knew better, with Seabrook as their competitive captain.
The Gryffindor rumours from that morning seemed to have finally died down in light of the exciting news of Tiana's appointment as captain.
Kat sat at the slytherin dinner table waiting for more people to show up, she had noticed majority of the Professors were absent. Clearly they were dealing with whatever was ‘spreading.’ Kat wondered if the site of the teachers missing might convince Lucas to make the deal after all it proved her point that something was going on.
Kat sat wondering if they would make some sort of announcement. She was conflicted, she wanted to know what was fully going on but if they announced it to the school she would lose all leverage she had over Lucas. ‘Well at least i got the Wolfweed,’ She thought feeling it in her pocket. She looked around the table for some other ingredients she might need. ‘Ooh Nuts!’ She thought grabbing a handful and depositing them into her other pocket.

Jacob jumped the last step and hurried into the corridor, so eager to get to dinner that he paid zero notice or consideration for where he was going. Naturally, that led him to crashing into a suit of armour - rather loudly. He hugged it to keep it or him from falling, stunned for a moment as to what happened and why his ears rung.
People stopped to stare. Jacob blushed, righting himself and quickly checking the armour was okay, then leaned against it as if it was his buddy and the whole thing was completely intentional. He did a hasty bow, then hurried into the Great Hall.
As much as he loved being the center of attention, Jacob picked a spot closer to the back of the hall this time - knowing he'd be leaving early to raid the kitchens with Ronan. To help things along though, he stopped a group of second years and told them to spread whispers about a party in the common room after dinner to celebrate Captain Tiana.
Then he was tree to eat, finally. Jacob grabbed whatever was in reach and looked the least like a vegetable, though was pleased that the morning's runour seemed to have finally started to die down - replaced with much better news. He could hardly sit still in excitement.
Killed by Devin Kudosen by act of the Killing Curse. June #24, RPG year 1 -- he was a 5th year Gryffindor. Jacob died to save his best friend, Luckett Langford.

Ryan had worked up an appetite from all those stairs, which he would never stop mentally complaining about any time he had to go up or down the Ravenclaw Tower. Doing both only five minutes apart was the worst. He fixed his tie and collar, wanting to look presentable at least, and headed to the Ravenclaw table. Instead of sitting down, he climbed onto a seat so he could easily see as much of the hall as possible. Still not Gerald.
He sat with a sigh, figuring his friend would find him when finished and that he hadn't actually forgotten him. Ryan was sure Gerald and Grace were just still busy doing whatever they were doing, but it would be nice to hear it for sure.
The distract himself, Ryan filled a bowl with mashed potatoes and gravy. Yes, that was his entire dinner for the night and no one could stop him. He glanced at the staff table and wondered where everyone was, but shrugged and resumed his meal. If it was important, someone probably would have said something - right?

Lucas paused to stare confused at Thatcher, who seemed to be hugging a suit of armour, but decided it wasn't worth the headache trying to figure out. Shaking his head, he entered the Great Hall and gave ita careful glance - checking for any hint of pranks or worst. He eyed Kat and considered joining her, but he didn't want Amara to catch him sitting by her after the bathroom incident and whatever all that was about.
Picking somewhere near enough to Kat that he could talk across to her if needed, yet safe enough away that it didn't look as if they had anything to do with each other, Lucas sat and considered what to eat. He actually wasn't too hungry for some reason, so left the food untouched for now and kept an eye on everyone else in the hall. Gryffindor and Ravenclaw were in good spirits, it seemed. He was smug to know why before anyone else did, probably.
Lucas pretended not to notice that several students continued to avoid sitting with him. They all came running to him when they needed something, but enjoying his company was never really something people did. Another reason he hoped Amara would decide to sit near him, as at least she understood what that was like and didn't mind his company.
He was bored and not hungry. If it kept up, maybe he'd be better off just going to bed early? And by that, of course, he meant hiding under the covers to count his Galleons.

Lucky walked into the Great Hall with a conscious swagger, school tie loose around his neck, house robes cocked back by hands deep in his pockets. He made his way over to the Hufflepuff table, eying the spread for the evening. 'Did you leave enough food for me? I'm starved!' He was loud enough for most at his table to hear, a small smirk rising on his lips. He knew there was plenty of food available. He just wanted his housemates to know he had finally arrived.
After taking a moment to find somewhere to squeeze in, he swept his robes away from his feet and took a seat. Per usual, everything looked delicious. The fragrant aroma and even the visuals of the food made his mouth water. He didn't expect much from the meal, however, due to the hope that Ruby Farrowbrooke would cut dinner short with an act of rebelliousness. Until then, he'd play along. Lucky reached for his goblet, wanting to wet his palette before eating.
It had been quite a day for the Ravenclaw to say the least; a range of emotions from start to finish. After having to deal with Professor Hathmore and his barbarian ways, Amara Seabrook and her dramatic tendencies and Professor Snape and his issued punishment, Nyx needed a moment to wind down. While she would've preferred turning into bed early, she knew she had to eat to keep up her strength. However, Nordstrom didn't know if she'd have the patience to deal with small conversation, but the tiny growl in her stomach had ultimately convinced her.
Nyx glided into the Great Hall, immediately scanning the room for any familiar faces. There were swarms of students already packed within the venue, their chatty demeanor too rowdy for Nordstrom's liking. The whole lot sounds like a pack of street dogs, she thought, making her way toward Ravenclaw's gathering. Hopefully they weren't the source of the noise. Upon arrival, she slid into an open seat, instantly roped into the chatter of her new captaincy.
But she was distracted. Six ingredients, Nyx pondered, thinking about her scroll of ingredients. She had memorized most of the list, but struggled to find anything of use—then, she saw the bowl of nuts. "I'll take some of those," she said aloud, reaching forward and grabbing a handful. She popped a few into her mouth, discreetly dropping the rest into her pocket.

Sophia was in a good mood. She'd had a thoroughly non-productive afternoon of just lazing around after class and avoiding anything school-related. She strolled into the Great Hall, waving and smiling at those who greeted her. She wasn't the most popular girl in their grade, but well-known enough that she sometimes felt like it.
She headed to the Hufflepuff table and gave it a careful stare, searching for a familiar face. With a delighted squeak, she headed to where Lucky sat. 'Hey, stranger,' she joked. Sophia leaned so she could try to use his shoulders and upper back as a support, feeling relaxed and lazy. 'Cause any trouble?' She considered him a friend and they got along rather well, though like Kier and Quinn - Sophia didn't get to hang out with Lucky as much as she'd like. Was it a boy thing or did it just happen that way?
Unable to stand the smell and sight of food that was out of reach, she made a clumsy sort of swerve to plop herself on the seat beside him. Sophia tucked some violet hair behind her ear, having decided on a darker shade now - no longer feeling the vibrancy of her usual colour. She speared some chicken with her fork, though kept her focus on Lucky and hoping to hear about his afternoon since Defence class.
'How'd you do in class, anyway?' She wondered, pausing to eat as her mother's scolding of not talking with her mouthful never really went away. 'I did pretty good, I think. Better than some Slytherins, anyway.' Sophia grinned in memory of Mardling then Seabrook getting flung onto the floor. Others too. Not that she liked seeing people in situations like that, but considering those Slytherins were a pain...She'd allow it.
Surprised to reach the Great Hall a bit ahead of Lindsey, Avery wasted no time heading to the Slytherin table. She could only hope no one had another stupid idea about pranking her house again because she'd barely gotten anything to eat the night before. Just thinking about it made her annoyed and anxious. She gave everything a careful inspection just in case, then chose a seat closer to the front.
Remembering Lindsey wanted to actually sit with her, for whatever reason, Avery made sure to save her a space. She'd done all the things she needed to, so all that was left was to eat. She served some meat and vegetables, though took a big gulp of her juice first. She wondered if Lindsey wanted them to sit together for dessert too, or if they'd be headed to the common room early?
There was a lot of commotion going on over at the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw tables. Avery caught enough words to figure out what was happening, though quickly lost interest. Quidditch wasn't really her thing, and she knew Seabrook wouldn't be pleased if any Slytherin joined in on the celebrations. Probably.

Mathias entered the hall with his nose in a book, closely examining a picture of a big-winged pixie. Being a 5th year, he easily knew his way around now and was able to wave through a group of younger students to reach the Ravenclaw table with minimal checks of his surroundings.
'Hey, Captain.' He gave Nyx a friendly smile, sitting across from her. He'd heard the news on the way over, though expected everyone else was fussing and being chatty about it that he tried not to bother her unless she wanted to chat.
He placed the book open beside his plate, trying to continue staring while eating his dinner. Mathias was careful enough not to eat anything too messy, as remained convince Madam Pince would swoop down from the sky and smite him if anything touched the books' pages.
'You know much about pixies?' he casually asked Nyx, and anyone else around who wanted to join in. Mathias doubted they would though, not with the more exciting subject of the captaincy going around.

He turned as soon as he heard Sophia Rhynhart. 'Wow, be still my beating heart! Did you do something different with your hair?' His shoulders were strong and broad, easily supporting her weight as she took a seat beside him. 'It looks good on you, Soph -- almost as good as causing trouble is on me.' He cracked a grin, his eyes vibrant with mischief. Little did she know, he had been stirring the pot. 'Let's just say dinner may be short, all thanks to Ruby Farrowbrooke.'
Lucky grabbed himself a turkey leg and bit into it, taking half the meat off the bone in one bite. 'Eh, class was alright. I got zapped a couple times, but it seemed like a lot of people did.' He shrugged, swallowing. 'Hathmore seems like a pretty cool bloke, though. Not many instructors go for a practical approach. I'm all for it.' He took a swig from his goblet, washing down his food. 'Hey, where are all the Professors at, by the way?' Lucky motioned to the front of the hall. With not much staff, maybe Ruby really would get away with starting the food fight.

'Why thank you, kind sir.' Sophia did a dramatic flip of her hair. 'Oh, so you were off causing trouble...Without me? How rude.' She scoffed, popping a piece of carrot in her mouth. She tilted her head in intrigue to what he said, but also finally realising the hall was nosier than usual.
'Oi, Luck - who's Ruby Farrowbrooke?' she asked. 'And what's going on with those lot? Did I miss out on a party or something?' She hoped not, as that would be awful. She'd indicated to Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, not bothering to listen to the cheers and instead waited for Lucky to answer.
'You got zapped too, huh? Guess you weren't so lucky then, eh?' Sophie wriggled her eyebrows at him, pleased with her terrible joke. Four plus years at Hogwarts and she hadn't yet run out of ways to make use of his fun nickname. 'I think Hathmore's cool too. I noticed some were pretty sour about his methods though. I kind of get it, but also...eh. Practical is way more fun.'
Sophia followed his motions to the front of the hall. 'Huh. I dunno. That is a bit weird.' She did a quick count of who was missing. 'Do you think something's up?

Langford could only smirk at her, his mouth full of food. There wasn't any doubt Sophia would have made a perfect trouble-making wingwoman. He managed a swallow, before answering her question. 'She's a first year.' He replied matter-of-factly. 'Farrowbrooke is a tiny thing, too. It's easy to miss her.' He didn't mean it negatively, only that she was smaller than them.
'As for that lot,' he began, reaching for a starch. 'They're all celebrating the induction of their brand new Quidditch captains.' His tone was very la-di-da, annoyed by the frivolity of the other house's celebrations. 'I applied to be captain as well, but haven't heard a single thing.' He rolled his eyes, spooning mashed potatoes into his mouth to stop himself from ranting.
But he could't help but laugh at her joke, finding it amusing how Sophia always managed to make use of his nickname. 'Hardy-har-har. I haven't heard that one before.' Lucky mocked her, his eyes narrowing with a playful glare. He was still bothered that Nordstrom and Thomas had received their captaincies, but he hadn't. However, there was time before the season began.
The corner of his mouth twitched with subsided bitterness, still thinking of Hufflepuff's vacant captaincy. Luckily, the topic changed and he was able to revert his attitude. 'I don't know. I do find it odd they're not all present, though.' He shot Rhynhart a look of concern. 'You reckon it has to do with why the Professors seemed a bit anxious herding us into the hall for dinner?'
When the small figure of Genevieve arrived at the Great Hall, she slipped through the throngs of ravenous students and made her way over to the Gryffindor table.Starving, she seated herself down in the first space she came across, one near Jacob, one of the Gryffindor's Tiana had broken the good news too.
She smiled at him as she seated herself across from him and started to select her meal. It was rather small, but Genevieve ate like a sparrow. She poured a glass of pumpkin juice, sipped it and said to Jacob. "So are you going to try out? When Tiana puts the call out I mean?" She inquired eagerly. It would not come as a surprise to anyone that Genevieve intended fully to do so, she longed to be Seeker with every fibre of her soul.
After waiting a few minutes to see if any more of the Professors showed up Kat decided that they probably weren’t going to make an announcement so she grabbed a plate of food. She knew that there was plenty so she loaded up her plate with whatever her heart desired, she didn’t have to eat it all. Kat also got out her notebook from today and decided to write down what had happened with Hathmore, Snape and Fairburn. They still were missing from dinner and that made Kat even more smug when Lucas entered the hall and sat at the table.
Kat looked up from her notebook and her spinach salad and looked him right in the eye. She raised her eyebrow at him and nodded towards the Professor’s empty seats. Then she moved her fork slowly into her salad, pressed down, and then slowly brought the spinach up and into her mouth. She chewed slowly all while making eye contact. ‘When’s he gonna crack?’ Kat thought smugly.
Kat then heard an uproar from the Ravenclaw. ‘Nyx must have arrived,’ Kat had reasonably deducted. She thought about getting up and going to find her but Kat knew that she had already congratulated her. Plus Kat was fairly certain that she would see her tomorrow if nothing else. Kat was tired of her salad so she pushed the bowl away and grabbed fries and chicken tenders. She grabbed a tender and took a bite going back to her notebook.
