An active, character-driven Hogwarts experience set in the early 2000s. Unique items, plots, and features. Non-canon; this isn't Harry Potter's story, it's ours.
Eleanor was drinking her juice and had just picked up the Daily Prophet to read the news when she heard whispers of her name. She paused, listening carefully for a moment. She dropped the paper onto the table, blood running cold, when she heard what was being said.
How could anyone think that she'd do something like that? She spent just as much time over the years getting into the same situations and same trouble as Jacob and Thomas did, it would make her the world's biggest hypocrite to turn them in for it.
Her face paled as Eleanor realized that it wasn't just that the school was hearing this, but Jacob and Thomas were going to hear it too. And they weren't friends last year, so they wouldn't know that this was absolutely false. She looked down, refusing to make eye contact with anyone. How was she possibly going to fix this? They'd never talk to her again. None of her housemates would. Her life was essentially over. Tears stung her eyes and she bit her lip hard to keep them from escaping.
She needed a plan, fast. Stay and hold her head up high or run away to escape the whispering voices. She straightened her back slightly, taking a deep breath. She was no coward, she wasn't going to run off with her tail between her legs. She'd done nothing wrong. Maybe, somehow, she'd be able to convince the boys of that.
he took a quick glance has he herd whispers and saw the Eleanor. she looked a bit distraught to him so summoning courage and in hopes rube would forgive him later he got up and walked to her his heart raced he wasn't sure if he could help but his parents always tried to help people. everyone status never mattered and he shared the belief. Has he approached her head up back straight with confidence.
"excuse me Eleanor are you alright " he said in a low voice to her hoping he was doing the right thing and she wouldn't lash out at him for some reason the older kids made him nervous.
Sinead and her sister had made their way down to the great hall shortly before the owl post arrived. Kaitlyn went to sit with her friends and Sinead took a seat not far from Rebecca and Laliee, whom Sinead vaguely recalled smiling at her when she spoke up about joining the Quidditch team. The youngster sat down and when her breakfast appeared before her, she began to eat slowly, giving the Gryffindor table a wary glance.
Just then the owl post arrived and a owl dropped a Daily Prophet in front of her. She paid the owl and picking up the paper, she unfolded it and read it as she was eating. "Heh...." Sinead smirked inwardly at the headline article as she was not overly fond of Muggles. However she did her best to keep her outward expression emotionless. She finished her breakfast and continued to read the paper, when whispers of a rumor reached her. The fact that this rumor involved certain members of Gryffindor house had caught Sinead's interest and she looked up.
The young brunette glanced towards the Gryffindor table again and was delighted to see that several of them scowling and that the girl in question seemed pale and a little ruffled. Remembering Snape's statement in the common room the previous night, Sinead decided it was now or never to speak out about it. Normally she stayed well away from trouble if she could, but she knew something like that could happen again with someone either getting hurt or killed as a result.
Her decision made, Sinead got up and without glancing at any of the tables, she made her way to the staff table warily. "Excuse me Professor Snape.....may I have a private word with you in your office after breakfast please?" She says politely once she had approached where the professor was sat.
Hanna chuckled at Elara's attitude towards her way of school life, of course there were a few times Elara hand to help her with her homework or force her to go to some of her classes but that didn't mean she wasn't smart; far from it actually. Her grandparents often read her books, taught her a lot and made sure she studied a long time before she came to Hogwarts but she just didn't see the point of going to class when she could be using her talents elsewhere. Elara continued her rant about... something? Hanna couldn't quite remember as her eyes wandered over to the Gryffindor table, she had over heard some 1st years whispering about a betrayal in the Gryffindor house but she hadn't caught the hole story and it was picking at her curiosity.
A screech from above cut through her thoughts quickly making a mental note to come back to it later before she turned her to her family owl, Gypsy, who had just flown in with the morning post. Hanna reached out her hand as the beautiful long-eared owl landed and stroked hand through her feathers.
"What have you got for me today, huh"
She whispered to the young owl before taking the letter from under her and sending her on her way. A smile curved across Hanna's face as she tore into the letter and began to read her Grammy's words, quickly being replaced with concern as her Grammy spoke of what had been going down in the muggle world; was it really another prank? and who was doing this? So many questions filled her brain and as they began to spiral it was replaced by Elara's voice and newspaper being slid in front of her. She folded up her letter and placed it down before her eyes scanned the paper, it mentioned everything her Nan had just written and as she finished reading she sighed and looked up.
"I wish, I love a good prank" She joked before continuing "Unfortunately though I don't know anything, and neither do they, apparently" She gestured towards the letter she had just received before slipping it into her robe and looking over to the glum looking Gryffindor table.
"I do however really wanna know what's going on over there" Hanna nodded towards the Gryffindor table, they all had their heads down and one in particular looked about to cry. Whatever was going on with that house had peaked her interest and she vowed to find out by the end of the day.
Ruby was enjoying the day so far. She'd had a nice filling breakfast and was ready to spend some time exploring the castle.
Looking back at the Gryffindor table, Rubes noticed Marrow talking to Eleanor, but she didn't mind. Marrow was a nice kid and Rubes wanted him to make friends. There was certainly no problem with him talking to students in his own house, as long as they weren't being rude and nasty to him. Rubes didn't want to see her friends being bullied.
Anise let Becca and Lailee answer about their early, abrupt waking and refilled her plate, feeling like more food would at least keep her busy and awake long enough to go from faking it to making it. While they talked around her, Anise looked down at the paper and ready the front page curiously, finding it a weird prank for someone to make against muggles.
Her curiosity over the newspaper headline was quickly overshadowed by curiosity over the rumor about the 5th year Gryffindor. She scanned the lion’s table until she found the girl in question, Bernard, looking miserable. Glancing at those from her year surrounding her, she raised an eyebrow in question. It was a strange coincidence that this happened directly following the glitter prank, and she silently wondered if it was them who were behind this. Snape’s words warning against retaliation came to mind and she wondered which genius decided directly disobeying their head of house was a good idea.
Eleanor could feel more and more eyes on her as the rumor spread through the Hall, and her resolve to bravely sit there and take it was starting to crumble. Jacob and Thomas hadn't shown up yet--probably, like most teenage boys, they were going to lie in as long as possible. She wondered if there was some way to talk to them before they heard this gossip from someone else, though even as she thought it, she knew it would be impossible. Rumors spread through this school like wildfire and it would be unstoppable by any single person.
She flinched as Marrow's voice startled her, having heard nothing but grumbles and grousing from her housemates thus far, but she quickly gave him a reassuring smile, not wanting her reaction to his unexpected presence to frighten him off. She was just relieved someone was willing to talk to her.
At his question, Eleanor glanced down at the table with a heavy sigh, "No, not really. Someone's spreading a rumor about me--have you heard it? That I turned in Jacob and Thomas for being out past curfew? They're going to be so mad...they probably won't even care that it's a rumor and not true, everyone's talking about and believe it and soon they'll hear about it and probably believe it, too."
A tear escaped and she hastily wiped it away, hoping no one noticed as she didn't need further fuel for people to target her about--being considered a traitor was bad enough without everyone knowing her feelings and pride were hurt.
"You probably shouldn't be seen talking to me." Eleanor explained to Marrow, remembering that he was new, "If they think you're talking to a traitor, they may label you one as well, and you don't want to start off the year by the entire house targeting you."
he smiled and hugged her squeezing tight "if i cared about rumors i wouldn't be a bledwalker but has for being targeted go for it i got my friends like you right."he spoke with a confidence thinking if i can help one person who cares his parents words hit his mind passion is what separates people from monsters.so with that marrow looked to her and said " head up back straight and with confidence". he let the hug go after that. "its what friends do "he thought he was doing the right thing.
"Hi!" Adeline told her brother excitedly in greeting, always happy to see him, especially after it had been so long. As Elara turned her attention to someone she didn't know, Adeline turned her focus onto her brother and an older student, who she recognized as being the one who put together the tea party the previous night.
When Mathias discarded the paper, Adeline picked up a stray copy and looked it over, subtly summarizing it aloud for him out of habit, "Wow, I can't believe someone's been pranking muggles with unexplained noises and lights. Some people have zero concern for the Statute of Secrecy. I wonder who would do something like that?"
"Classes," Adeline told her brother when he started speaking of plans, "And nothing else planned yet. I'm sure I'll find something to do to pass the time. You?"
Her attention faltered as students around her started whispering about a Gryffindor student who possibly betrayed her house, and she looked at the Gryffindor table in surprise. She sure wouldn't want to be the one who that group decided wasn't trustworthy as she could imagine the girl was about to have a very bad day.
Nathan winced in sympathy as the girls recounted their rude awakening, and he looked around the room, not spotting the missing two 5th year girls, "So where are Amara and Megan now? Did they force everyone awake just to be rid of you?"
He quickly read the Daily Prophet, puzzled by the news. It was unusual to see so many instances lately where muggles were being exposed to magic, and he wasn't entirely sure it was pranks to be happening so often.
Looking in Lucas's direction, Nathan asked, "What are your plans for the morning? Anything interesting?" Nathan didn't have any plans himself, and was hoping that he'd come across someone who wouldn't mind company.

Ryan entered the Great Hall muttering under his breath about the stupidity of five million stairs.
There was a lot of chatter going on but he ignored it, yawning widely on his way to the Ravenclaw table. He sat by himself, not in the mood to look for Gerald or Danielle though hoped they were nearby. He'd stayed up talking to Gerald the night before until having to force himself to go to bed before that chair became his bed for the night.
His mind only focused on waking up and getting fed, Ryan yawned again while he smeared excessive amounts of jam on his toast. It took a while to remember how to function, not used to having to wake up on his own and earlier than he did at home. Once the Great Hall came back into focus and he could keep up with the chatter, Ryan turned his attention to the Daily Prophet.
That diminished his appetite. Ryan wondered if his family were scared of the sounds and noises too; he certainly would have, even knowing it was magic not UFOs. He shuddered, hoping it was just some sort of weird prank and not something else. Pranks were meant to be funny, right? He wasn't so sure, as some stuff he had to go through were called "pranks" too and they weren't very funny. Not to him, anyway.
He briefly considered seeking out a fellow first year and say hi, as he was told to learn to be more social once he got to Hogwarts, but Ryan didn't have the energy for it. He'd been socialising and talking to others way more in the last few days than for as long as he could remember. It was exhausting and he was sure to mess it all up sooner or later. It was better to just keep to himself and wait for a class or something.
On that thought, Ryan clutched his timetable and analysed it. 'Ugh.' He slouched grumpily. 'Just homework.' That afternoon too. What the heck was he supposed to do until then?

Sophia had overslept and it wasn't pretty. After spending a ridiculous amount of time in the bathroom fixing her hair, after having slept in the common room's fort and getting tea on her face in the process, she decided to give up on looking completely presentable. Her hair was its usual violet and that would have to be enough.
She yawned while sitting at the Hufflepuff table across from Kieran, but was in good spirits despite missing the comfyness of her bed and warmth of her blankets.
'Last night was awesome,' she told Kier with a mouthful of cereal. Luckily, he should be used to food-translating her words by now. 'Do you think the house elves will clean it up for us or will we have to avoid the common room until a prefect loses their patience and does it for us?' Sophia laughed, knowing she had just as little intention to clean it up as she did to build it.
She felt guilty about making the house elves do it too, but argued with herself that one more thing to clean probably wouldn't make too much of a difference in a whole castle like Hogwarts - plus, they got to use magic.
'What's on for today?' Sophia was aware of rumours going around but was more interested in how her own day would go first. She was thrilled to see they had the morning free, though DADA wasn't a bad option. After checking, she paid more attention to the company around them - food had to come first, after all.
'Hey, you.' Sophie waved at the Ravenclaw. Yeah, she knew his name, but just in case. He remembered he was related to Adeline, at least. She could have called him "Sallow" but that was a bit informal and kind of cheating. She ate another pancake instead.
Breakfast finished in record time, despite the lemon slice and tea from the late night before, Sophia turned her attention to the Daily Prophet. She frowned while reading, worried about the Muggles and hoped Callie's parents weren't anywhere near those events, but didn't have much else to say about it. No one was hurt, right? The Ministry would deal with it. She should owl her dad...Nah, he talked too much.
And then the rumours reached her. Sophia's frown deepened, looking over at the Gryffindor table to see Bernard. How could she do something like that? Realising her own negativity, Sophia sighed. No, that wasn't fair. She couldn't believe a rumour without evidence, not about something huge like a betrayal. After last night's events, who's to say a Slytherin wasn't behind it all? Sophia needed more information before she judged, though she'd make sure to be wary of the girl just in case.
Deciding to leave her be for now, Sophia turned back in her seat and offered Kier a friendly smile and listened to the conversations going on.

Lucas glanced up from reading more in the Daily Prophet when Lailee spoke. He hesitated with a serious expression for a few seconds then offered her one of his usual charming smiles. 'Oh, Karmett, if you wanted to know if I'm single - you just have to ask,' he joked.
He used her surname to make his point, but otherwise showed no grudge of hostility. That wasn't his style, though he doubted many realised he wasn't all that nasty after all. What was the point in guilt tripping or lording things over people anyway? It wasn't their fault he was annoying and difficult to like. Well, not entirely their fault anyway.
Realising he didn't answer her question, he sighed and focused on his breakfast. 'We can talk. After breakfast is fine, whenever.'
When she mentioned Anise and Becca initially tried to resist whatever was going on with Amara and Megan, Lucas snorted in mocking of such a foolish decision. 'I'm amazed you've all survived this long, to be honest.' He bit into his apple, briefly giving the Great Hall and Gryffindor table another curious glance.
'Ah, Rebecca.' Lucas leaned to make the conversation more between them. 'Amara has what you need - she'll get it to you sometime this morning. Assuming she's not busy going on a murder spree, of course. I'd deliver it myself, but you know. Her area of expertise, I daresay.' He almost mentioned she'd brewed the potion last night so she had it since he hadn't seen her yet that morning, but it was too much information for a public space during breakfast. Surely Becca would understand though.
With that deal almost done, he considered reminding Lailee of their deal as well but didn't particularly want to be around her or talk to her today so it could wait. Instead he indicated towards the staff table - directing their attention to a 4th year from their house who approached Professor Snape.
'No tacic whatsoever.' Lucas scoffed, shaking his head in sympathy for the girl.
He finished his apple and tossed the core at a first year, who squealed in fright and terrible attempt to catch it. He nodded at Nathan and glanced to hear the answers to his questions, also curious where the murder-duo were as surely they'd be hungry by now. Especially after the events at dinner. Though he intended to make himself scarce if they did show up.
Pleased to get to talk with Nathan, Lucas gave the other boy his attention. 'Plans? Oh, you know me - I always have plans. Never a dull moment.' He glanced away, sipping his pumpkin juice to buy time. He and Nathan shared a dorm and got along well enough, as it so happened with dormmates who weren't necessarily friends, but did he want to get to know him more? It could prove useful.
Somehow, he still had no idea how Nathan actually liked to spend his free time.
'I haven't decided exactly how to spend the morning yet though, no. Lots of ideas but...' Lucas shrugged. 'What about you? Anything interesting on your end?' He'd find out what Nathan had in mind first before making a decision or taking away a chance to talk himself out of having company. It would be stupid to say he's free and then be offered something utterly boring.
Got to have an escape excuse ready to go, after all.

Post by Jacob Thatcher on Jun 3, 2019 17:00:23 GMT 10
Jacob had heard the rumours long before he reached the Great Hall. He roughly shoved by two second year Ravenclaws, storming his way to the Gryffindor table. He was determined to just ignore it and sit by himself - to at least talk to Thomas first, who would likely be even angrier than he was (she almost got Thomas banned from Quidditch!), yet seeing Ele-no, Bernard, just sitting there riled him up even more.
The fact Bernard would even show her face at the Gryffindor table...
'I hope it was worth it,' were the first words spat out of Jacob's mouth as he reached her. They weren't the words he was planning on, but swears only got a conversation so far. Not that he had any interest in having an actual conversation with her ever again. No excuse could make up for what she did. 'You know, at first I thought it had to be a load of dung, but...' He shook his head, too angry to even explain how angry he was.
She betrayed them. They weren't friends back then, but she was still one of them. How could she do something like that? It was hard enough to believe any Gryffindor could be so dishonourable and selfish, let along someone like Eleanor. She was so nice and funny - but he'd been made a fool of.
'What are you playing at anyway, trying to be friends with us now?' Jacob growled, fists clenched. 'You think that makes up for what you did? Bloody hell, El-Bernard. Are you trying to spy on us? Get more info to make yourself look better? Whatever. You know what? I don't care. I don't care about anything you have to say. Just stay away from us, okay? We're not friends anymore and we were stupid to be in the first place. A traitor to Gryffindor, you are. I can't...'
The anger slipped for a moment, showing the true hurt and betrayal behind it all. She would have seen that. He wanted to believe she'd care, that he hadn't been wrong about her at all, but the news was so raw and painful he couldn't allow himself to be fooled again. Jacob hastily turned and marched to the spot of the table that was as far away from her as he could manage.
Ignoring the Daily Prophet or anything else he couldn't care less about, Jacob angrily focused on attacking his waffles and cream as if the mangled mush could accurately reflect how he felt. He was such an idiot - not just for believing her, but for having doubt once he'd seen her face. An idiot, for still trying to cling to the weird feeling that maybe there was more to it. Maybe he was wrong about being wrong.
Killed by Devin Kudosen by act of the Killing Curse. June #24, RPG year 1 -- he was a 5th year Gryffindor. Jacob died to save his best friend, Luckett Langford.

Mathias heard some commotion by the Gryffindor table but ignored it, busy theorising with Adeline about what could be behind the so-called "pranks" mentioned in the Daily Prophet. In was a bit of a tangent that others probably couldn't keep up with, as the siblings were in their element, but still there were no solid clues.
'It must be big enough that they put it on the front page,' Mathias finished with. 'Bit odd, don't you think? Sure, the Statue of Secrecy is a big enough deal but if it's just pranks, as they say...' He shrugged. He gave her a smile, letting Adeline know he really appreciated that she'd summerised it aloud for him. He didn't even need to ask anymore. How'd he get lucky with such a great little sister?
'Oh, that reminds me, yes.' Mathias quickly kissed her on the head as he stood up. 'Sorry, mate - be right back,' he added to Kieran and made his way to the Slytherin table.
He approached in a manner that was as least confrontational as he could manage. If that didn't help, then nearly tripping over his own feet probably did. 'Uh, morning.' He awkwardly gestured something of a slow wave to the others. Wow, this was tense. Maybe he should have enchanted a parchment plane with the note instead. After he learned how to do that...
'Becca?' Mathias gestured to her to join him, not wanting to address the entire section of the table. If she stood and joined him a short distance away, he continued. 'Since we have free time this morning, I would like to make good on my promise. Would you like to hang out? You can pick, if you like? I'm open to anything, really. Except studying or anything in the library.' He shuddered.
